can curl up in the fetal position somewhere in a warm place and wait until it stops being hard and that just isn't reality. >> martha: he wasn't happy we cut that differently. there we go. you decide. that's "the story." we will see you tomorrow night, guys. >> welcome to "tucker carlson tonight." it's clear both of the country's political parties are have changed radically. they are changing still. we covered that every night on the show. donald trump is transformed the gop, you may have read about it. on the democratic side, there have been profound changes too. ones that don't get as much attention. party for hundred years stood with america's middle class now represents the nation's richest and poorest. the party position on policy have changed accordingly. a lot. this is about 20 years ago, democrats champion free speech. they worried about illegal immigration, loudly.
5:01 pm
they criticized voluntary foreign wars and they argued unrestricted trade hurt american workers. by the way, quite a few of them, democrats were pro-life too. senator harry reid among them. that's not surprising. democrats said they cared most about the vulnerable in our society. even bill clinton who vetoed partial abortion ban he wanted to keep abortion rare. he said that a lot. try that in today's democratic party. they put it on t-shirts. abortion isn't bad. we need more of it. governor andrew cuomo signed a bill making that possible. it's called the reproductive health act. the law legalizes abortion right to the moment of birth for any reason. to most people, aborting a child moment before delivery might seem uncomfortably like killing.
5:02 pm
it's a concern. cuomo's law addresses that concern. law declares children who have not been yet born are not in fact human. he described it is a profound moral victory. the national press didn't spend time covering this. there's still something pretty ghoulish about celebrating third-term abortion. that's why only tiny of percentage american voters support it. nobody really wants to hear the details about this. nobody asks. that's why the video we're about to show you, it is remarkable. in it a avoids democratic lawmaker called kathy trant, explained in detail a bill she's introduced that will remove all restriction on late-term
5:03 pm
abortion. she was asked what would that mean and trans tells the truth. watch this. >> where it's obvious that a woman with to give birth, she's has physical sign about to give birth. would that still be point she can request an abortion if she was certified? she's dielating. >> mr. chairman, ing that would be a decision that the doctor, the physician and the woman -- >> i'm asking if your bill allows that. >> yes. >> tucker: so, abortion at the point of dilation. if you kuded -- accused what in mean, ask everyone who is giving birth. you maybe pro-choice, are you okay with that? virginia's governor is okay with that. he thought about it.
5:04 pm
he's been in office little over a year. he's always described as moderate. that's pretty amazing given his reaction to kathy tran's abortion bill. >> it's done in cases where there maybe seer deformities. there maybe a fetus. in this particular example, if a mother is in labor, i can tell you exactly what would happen. the infant will be delivered. the infant will be kept comfortable. the infant will be resuscitated if that's what the mother and family desire. then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother. >> a discussion about killing the infant? the infant. he's directing -- the infant will be delivered and resuscitated if that's what the mother desires. quote, in other words, the governor of virginia just told us in public on camera that it's okay to kill a child after the
5:05 pm
child has been born. that used to be call infan infanticide. taking the life of a child who is breathing. the governor seem to say that. did he misspeak? you'd hope. he didn't. ralph northam is a physician. he's not some clueless layman who mangled a talking point. this is what he thinks. this is what his party thinks. no one ever says it, but it's true. this is the new moderate pro-choice position. you should know it. lisa int booth join us tonight. thanks thank you very much. this is one of the those trends that's escaped notice. there are bills in vermont and rhode island and probably bunch of other states to allow this. tell us what you found out about this legislation. >> reporter: it's pretty
5:06 pm
terrifying. president clinton saying abortion should be legal and rare. now you have people like governor ralph northam who openly advocated infanticide. democrats embracing abortion up until the moment of birth. what i think is so interesting about this, democrats are now embracing this position that is wildly out of touch with the majority of americans. you look at morist poll done in january, only 75% abortion and below. the reason being because you look at abortion at the third trimester, you're talking about injecting a baby that it viable at this point outside of the mother's womb in the head, torso or heart and forcing this child into a full cardiac arrest, the
5:07 pm
mother going to carry this dead child in her womb for two to three days. that is why you have the majority of americans that have oppose this kind of thing. >> tucker: it's just so interesting this is happening. it's coordinated by abortion providers who are major donors to democratic party. it's happening the same moment a the party is working itself into frenzy about moral concern about people in our country illegally and climate change. the message this is a party that really cares. here you have a sitting democratic governor saying, you get to kill the kid, the child if you want. has anybody said like this on the democratic side? >> reporter: i have not heard much from the left except >> andrew cuomo. when esigned the reproductive act. a wall is moral but this is
5:08 pm
moral? i think that democratics need to check themselves. they are so wildly out of sync with the american people. remember hillary clinton supported repealing the hyde act which is decades-old law that will allow funding for abortion. democrats becoming way out of sync with americans. i think republicans should raise the alarm. get loud and so should president trump. democrats are out sync with americans. >> tucker: seems that way. thank you very much. monica klein joins us. i'm sure you describe yourself as pro choice. lot of people think of themselves as pro choice. i'm not attacking you for that. i wonder what you think what drf virginia said. the child is an infant is born, there's a point where the mother and the physician can decide
5:09 pm
whether to kill the infanttor not. what do you think of that? >> i understand you want to go back to a time where roe v. wade was legal and they were using coat hangers to have abortions. >> tucker: i'm giving you time to make a real argument. i'm not arguing for the repeal of roe v. wade. >> that's what you're essentially saying. >> tucker: please don't be tiresome. the governor of virginia who's a rising star in the democratic party, just said this. there's pending legislation that mirrors it. i'm asking what you think of it. >> i think that right now, reproductive healthcare is under attack by the republican party. 72% of americans support right to choose. we have trump and kavanaugh trying to retake away our bodies. this isn't about babies. this is about you attempting to chrome women's bodies. >> tucker: don't be a robot. this is the governor of
5:10 pm
virginia. i want to know what you think of it. does that bother you? >> it bothers me that are attempting to control women's bodies. you are. the republican party right now is working overtime to repeal roe v. wade. >> tucker: i wonder if you're unwillingness to address what just happened today on tape is sign you can't defend this. i wonder why that it. >> as on woman, what do i think it? have you ask yourself why you spend so much time thinking about this. there are seven states there's only one abortion clinic. this is about a woman's right to choose. you as a man should not have a
5:11 pm
single say in that. >> tucker: wow. do you think that you're making a case that most people agree with? that it's okay to abort a child in the third trimester. >> you can keep trying to say that the democratic party is hurting children. your party is tearing families apart at the border and allowing children to die in federal custody. who's party is harming children? >> tucker: let me ask you one quick question. i think less of you after what i have to say. it's an honest question. have you thought about it. do you have a real answer to what the governor of virginia said or you will throw yet another talking point at me? have you thought about it? >> i have thought about it. i'm telling you that your party is attempting to change the conversation about roe v. wade and take control.
5:12 pm
as a man what you're focused is on controlling women's body. >> tucker: this is a child who's been born, it's not a woman's body, an independent person. >> you have concerns over children when you're fine with i.c.e. tearing families apart and children dying. >> tucker: monica, thank you. new york governor andrew cuomo identifies as a catholic. he just described the law he sign and celebrated. >> what they think you should do with your body, they want to dictate through the law. if you said what issue is more important to you now, choice or taxes, choice or economic development. i don't know what people would say. >> we have an extreme conservative agenda in washington, kavanaugh is going to reverse roe v. wade.
5:13 pm
i have no doubt. this is democracy. new yorkers want to protect a woman's right to choose. >> tucker: father john morris is a catholic priest in new york. he joins us tonight. father morris thank you very much for coming on. >> i'm sad tonight. >> tucker: i'm too. i think it's a complicated issue. i certainly know lot of people who disagree with me on it. you think you live in country where when he says when a child is born you have right to kill that child. there will be a chorus people saying, no, you don't. you don't have right to kill people. there isn't that chorus. i wonder why? >> your last guest, i think gave us the most convincing explanation. they don't want to take on the issue. you showed a video earlier about
5:14 pm
governor of virginia, this is a pediatrician. who says, this is what's going to happen. if women is diallated and about to give birth, we'll make sure -- i don't think you brought it out -- we'll make sure the baby is comfortable and then, we will resuscitate the baby if the mother wants us to. first we'll make it comfortable. then we'll resuscitate it if the mother wants us to. then we'll into discussion about what to do next. this is not a crazy activist group. this is the governor of virginia. it's exactly what the governor of new york thinks right now. that's what we're dealing with. the world has gone crazy.
5:15 pm
>> tucker: i know the catholic is an institution. i'm not a catholic. the catholic church from my understanding, is totally opposed to this. yet, it offers communion to politicians who support and abet and increase the incidents of it. >> catholic church would say anybody who agree with this including governor cuomo and anybody else, they should not receive champion beyond themselves. -- communion themselves. most evangelicals most christians, noncatholic christians would say what is ex-communication. it has to do with saying you're no longer part of the communion of the church. if i believe in this crazy stuff, i'm in the in communion with the catholic church. i should not even be going to
5:16 pm
communion. the catholic church has to decide, are we going to publicly say, you are now ex-communicated. if that's going to be a helpful for the soul of that person, let's go for it. does that make sense? >> tucker: what's the case that you would make? lot of people have internettized the libertarian argument and it's your body and you can do what you want. i understand the argument. what's your response to that? >> well, i'm glad you brought that up. your previous guest said, this has to do with the woman's body. in the example that she just been given, the baby had already been born. the umbilical chord has been cut. is that still her body? it doesn't make sense logically. i think it doesn't make sense even when the baby is inside the
5:17 pm
body. any mother who has a baby kicking her in the stomach and moving, knows that's another human being. tucker, one really important thing that nobody has been talking about in the new york state, what they've also done is they've got rid of and all other state laws the idea that there's personhood of the unborn. they have said that we're going to get rid of the status of person of the unborn. let's say a woman is beat up and she's eight months pregnant. up until now, that child -- that would have been murder of the child as well. that's no longer the case according to this. >> tucker: no it's not. let's call it what it is. this is a death cult obviously. >> it has to do with the love of death. >> tucker: father morris thank

5:22 pm
they are right. it is popular. look at polling. there's been a change, traditionally the welfare state was for a country's own citizens. today's democrats are fighting hard to expand iter those in this country illegally. for noncitizens shouldn't be here. in new york lawmakers passed a bill to provide testimony financ--taxpayer finance tuitioo illegal immigrants. nicole thank you very much for coming on. in a state like yours where there's a lot of poverty and a lot of homelessness and broken infrastructure, how can lawmakers justify giving free things to people who don't have a right to be here in the first place? >> that's outrageous. if you're a family house old income $81,000 you qualify for no tuition assistance. this bill would allow
5:23 pm
individuals who are here illegally and residing in the state of new york for just 30 days, they take the ged they qualify for tuition assistance program that so many legal residents who are struggling to get by on average $40,000 in debt after college, they aren't receiving it. >> tucker: so, the message is really clear from lawmakers to the citizenry and population. we don't care about you. your interests irrelevant to us. are people getting that message? >> yes. it's a slap if the -- in the face. new yorkers are learning with the shift to the state senate and democracy starting to do. the property tax gone up 44% in the last five years. we seen mayor give free healthcare to individuals here illegally. 300,000 of them we have 76,000 homeless here in
5:24 pm
the city of new york. >> tucker: has there been any backlash? france is paralyzed from middle class backlash against policies like this. are you sighing anybody say, this isn't tolerable. >> absolutely. i hear it all the time in the legislature. i love the debate against the dream act which is tuition assistance bill. now this year we saw it pass because the democrats tookover the state senate. people want to leave this state because they can't afford to live here. we're not benefiting from salt of the the city and state high taxation. they continue to tax us more and middle class isn't receiving the same benefits. i think that's what's really frustrating for those that i represent and people across the state of new york.
