ed: but some of his fellow democrats in the commonwealth, including our next guest, do not quite see it that way. they're calling on him to step aside. joining us now democratic virginia state delegate jennifer bourne. good morning, sir. we appreciate you you coming in. trying to make sense of the news conference. you as a democrat who perhaps had an open mind go into the news conference willing him, how did you emerge from that news conference from the "oh, i wore black face another time" and " "maybe i'll do the moon walk." >> i emerged the same place i was before the press conference began which is i believe that governor northam has lost the trust and the confidence of the people he not only serves, but the people he's required to work with as governor and as such my feeling the members of the black caucus, our position hasn't changed. we in fact amplify our call for him to resign because it's become clear that he can no longer effectively govern.

ed: lieutenant governor fairfax is african-american. he put out a statement that was pretty harsh on the governor but he seemed not to want to push him aside to not make it look like he was all about ambition or something like that. what would be your suggestion to the lieutenant governor? do you think he's the person who should now step up and take over over? >> well, i think the constitution, shooed the governor do the right thing and resign means necessarily that justin fairfax will be the next governor of virginia. and so i think, you know, lieutenant governor should continue to do the work that he's been elected to do right now but begin preparing himself for that next phase. ed: but what if he doesn't resign? i was doing some research this morning, and my understanding of the state constitution, state law is that if he doesn't resign there could be, what is it, a three-fourths vote in the chambers there in richmond to try to basically invoke a 25th amendment style thing on the -- like we have on the federal level, that he's incapacitated and can't serve? is there something like that? >> there are some provisions in our constitution, in our code that would allow for an

impeachment type process. we haven't had extensive discussions about that, but i suspect that the longer it goes on, the more the confidence in the governor erodes, the more that the trust is broken, i think those conversations will begin to really take place in ernest. ed: so for you and other democrats, impeachment is on the table if he does not resign? >> well, i think he can't take any option off the table simply because there's so much work to do here in virginia, there's so many challenges that we face, and not having a governor that we all have trust in and we all have confidence in is simply a tremendous impediment to progress here in virginia, and as i stated, we've got too much work to do on critical issues. ed: sure. delegate, one of those issues that's been discussed in your state, as you know, is this legislation on the state level that critics say would lead to

infanticide. very, very late-term abortion being legalized, essentially, and the governor made very controversial statements, as you know. have you -- why haven't many democrats spoken out on that? i respect that you're speaking out on the race issue. it was disgusting, the photo and all of that. but why haven't other democrats spoken out about infanticide? >> i can't really speak for other democrats on why they chose to either speak or not speak. but what i will say is that, you know, these issues, a woman's right to choose are ones that really divide us more than they unite us. and i think from my perspective, i'd rather talk about the ones that unite us, such as how we going to continue to give raises to our teachers, how we going to invest in the infrastructure, how we going to protect our environment, the things that unit us. ed: those are some of the issues the governor may be struggling to deal with in the days ahead with according to his fellow democrats who want him to step

do not believe i am in the picture this my yearbook. if i were to listen to the voices calling on me to resign my office today, i could spare myself from the difficult path that lies ahead. pete: so he stood at that podium and said i'm not resigning even though the color -- chorus of democrats are growing to almost everyone at this point nationally and in virginia, and he's trying to dispute the photo saying that wasn't me, i don't know who placed it there. he wants to find out what happened, who it really was. you know, he seemed to speak sincerely, but at the same time democrats, even after that press conference, even more calling for him to step down. emily: we have michelle malkin here on the unfolding events both from northam and how democrats and the media have mandeled it. >> -- handled it. >> if you think about the last 72-96 hours, this is a man who had earned condemnation from good folks on the right because

of his barbaric and callous endorsement of the murder of born-alive babies. but that wasn't enough to break through into the national media. it was bizarre pictures from a yearbook from, what, 35, 40 years ago? emily: what does that tell you? ed: making an important point that this was a disgusting photo. people from the left to the right have said it's despicable, but i think her point is something that the president is trying to get at as well which is that many of the same people on the left and in the mainstream media said virtually nothing when the same governor a few days earlier basically came out and suggested that he supported infant side. so the president, who i'm told yesterday by one of his advisers, some of his friends were prod him, hey, why have you waited? normally you jump on these stories. last night the president did weigh in because i think some of his friends thought this is something that is playing right into the president's hand.

the governor just stated, quote, i believe i am not either of the photo. well, the president says, this was 24 hours after apologizing and after making the most horrible statement on super late term abortion, unforgivable, the president says. remember, the president a few todays ago also told reporters he believes the democratic party between taxes, abortion, they're getting extreme. pete: super late-term abortion was the phrase used because this was right there at birth, even after birth. and with northam being a physician, he knows what he's talking about at some level. important to note at that press conference, not a single question was asked about that abortion statement, by the way. obviously, the press conference was about the yearbook, but not a single reporter even asked about what happened earlier in the week. but a reporter did ask about, in a more awkward part -- ed: really random question. pete: yeah. when northam was at the podium, he said that wasn't me in the yearbook, but i did perform as michael jackson with black face

on, and i did the moon walk. well, the reporter asked northam if he could still moon walk. this was an earnest question from a reporter. here's what northam said. >> you said the competition in san antonio was a dance competition. >> yes. >> you danced the moon walk? >> that's right. >> you still able to moon walk? if. >> inappropriate. >> my wife says inappropriate circumstances. ed: listen to it and just react. emily: i mean, smart wife there. [laughter] it boggles my mind, the fact that he entertained that question which, you know, i don't know how appropriate the question was. ed: it was a cbs news reporter. emily: he continues to make these gaffes, and it's such a lapse in government. no, honey, no thank you, inappropriate. ed: not a good idea. not the time or place. pete: reporters don't always ask earnest questions. they're looking for that interesting sound bite, and he took it.

talk about a shockingly una aware guy -- unaware guy. ed: it was a goofy question. but on the other hand, the governor was entertaining the idea of doing the moon walk, so can you blame him for throwing it out there? the governor has to show the judgment to say this is a dumb idea. emily: i also think it indicates that he's really mired in the micro right now. oh, yes, the question and i'll do it rather than this big overview of this entire train has derailed now, and i should be getting off it. ed: you're right. he's under so much pressure from his own party, so he's not thinking straight. pete: you follow politics, have you ever seen anyone survive this kind of avalanche? ed: not usually. if he gets through this weekend -- pete: maybe a new news cycle or something? ed: some other big news happens especially where in the country, this is thrown off the front page. but on the other hand, if it were republicans saying this is awful, it became partisan and political, he had a better

chance of surviving. when leaders in your own party from joe biden to almost all the 2020 democratic potential candidates are saying get out, he has no support within his own party. pete: well, this is a big story. another one is will that wall get built, and will a shutdown happen on february 15th, and what will the president say at the state of the union address on tuesday. it will require negotiation with democrats in the house and senate with this conference committee in order to reach a compromise to keep the government open and address our problem at the southern border. representative sean maloney, democrat from here in new york, he came on the program earlier, and i asked him questions about what it would take to bring people together. he talked about common sense. here's what he had to say. >> look, we have always supported physical barriers where they make sense. you're going to see a lot of us bring that common sense to this debate. but here's the point, the point is let's talk about everything from dreamers to immigration reform to asylum seekers. emily: which does sound like common sense, right? so where is that level of common

[laughter] ed: but then the rubber meets the road, and this actual bipartisan conference committee was meeting a few days ago, they said everything's on the table, and nancy pelosi, the speaker who has the power, held a news conference after that meeting and said, no, no money for the wall. so tom homan, a fox news contributor, of course, was on a short time ago, and he was basically saying why don't we try to get politics out of it and listen to the people on the ground. watch. >> the caravans are organized, they're coordinated. i said that from day one. thousands of people don't all of a sudden say let's go to the united states. this is no manufactured crisis as the democrats once claimed on the caravans, and they're going to keep coming. they're going to keep coming because there's no deterrence, there's no consequence.

going to defend the yearbook, i don't think anybody can, but is there no redemption anymore in america when he sat there and said, look, i spoke to a young african-american campaign aide in 2017, i admitted to him that i'd put on black face, he told me how hurtful this was, i said i learned from it. does he deserve a second chance? >> absolutely. god is a forgiving god, at least the god we serve. so god will forgive him. but unfortunately, i think that we have to be consistent as democrats. the same posture and energy we said about the secretary of state in florida and other examples -- ed: who stepped down after -- >> we have to be very consistent. and at the end of the day, in 1984 painting black face for michael jackson, probably -- that argument doesn't work for me. and we all know that black face, no matter when it was used, what that represents to most of us, what i'm most concerned about, ed, is why this yearbook even published this photo -- ed: it was so offensive, how could they even do it?

the most fascinating people in sports, if not the. >> i don't think there's a close second, maybe tiger woods, but that's one of the reasons why i wanted to deliver a defining portrait of the man, not just the coach and, hopefully, i pulled it off. brian: you watched him at the press conference and say this must be the most uninteresting person in the world. it's actually just the opposite. >> away from the facility and stadium, it's like a jekyll and hyde act. he can be charming and engaging in social settings, and it's a figure that most of america would have a hard time believing exists, but they swear it does. brian: i want you to hear what roger staubach told me, he knew a young bill belichick on the campus of annapolis where his dad was assistant coach. he remembers that bill belichick. let's listen. >> steve was at the naval academy for about 33 years, steve belichick. bill used to come out to practice, i guess he was 9 or 0 or 11 years old.

he idolized his dad, and his dad was a great coach, great person, and bill just idolized his dad, and i think his dad would be really proud of him. he stood on the sideline when he won that first super bowl against the rams. brian: and you write about that too, the patriots, the biggest underdog in super bowl history maybe outside the jets, they go ahead and shock the rams. and steve, his dad, standing behind him. you write about that. >> right. and, brian, his father meant so much to him, really shaped him not only as a coach, but as a human being. being around his father at the naval academy, and one of his former players told me steve didn't just train us to be football players in annapolis, he trained us to be combat officers. and that discipline and attention to detail really had a profound impact on bill as a head coach, and you see that in his program. wriewp brian today, this is his ninth super bowl -- >> 12th if you count his assistantships -- brian: he told the team and

their families to go out and have fun, and tom brady was kidding around. that's not the bill belichick that coached the browns. >> no, he actually told a joke this week. a reporter asked him a question, are you ever going to write his own book, and he started to answer, well, i'm focusing on the rams, and then he said, well, would you buy one? [laughter] a lot of his friends would like to see more of that side. brian: so the 33-year-old sean mcvay, he is friends with bill belichick. >> that's right. they text. brian: how did this relationship start? >> well, just through texting, and bill is a grandfather because he was friends with sean's grandfather, john, who coached the giants and was a successful executive, of course, in san francisco. it is funny to see a 66-year-old man who was friends with the other coach's grandfather going head to head. brian broin so the rams are new to this, you know the drama, there's no spygate, no deflategate, no rumors of a quarterback controversy looming with grab low, this stud who is now in san francisco. it's kind of quiet.

[laughter] he's one of those monday morning quarterbacks. pete: that's right. >> here we've got the boneless new york strips, that's what we do at the meathouse, uncle jack's steakhouse. it's all about the marbling. we've got bacon, kobe meatballs -- ed: hanging bacon? >> and this is the legendary fred flintstone. i invented the steak about 20 years ago. these are some of the toppings. this is the, oh, my god, it's huge coconut cream pie.

8-ounce burger, brisket, short rib chuck, then over here -- >> [inaudible] >> yeah, sure, come on over here. so what we do is with the seasoning, bring over the salt and pepper, take that steak over here. you've got to get it going, you can see the juice in the burger. so get the fire going. no, you've got to hand hold it. you've got to get dirty. you want to rub your meat, right? you want to get your steak to room temperature, then you want to massage the salt, get it on the fat. then place it at an angle. pete: at an angle? >> yeah, so you get the marks, you want the marks, see? that's charred. ed: how long does it take to get to medium rare? >> thicker cuts 5 minutes each side, touch the things then put it off the temperature, you've got medium rare. there's your filet. then we're going to do the fred flintstone -- >> what is that? >> that's a tomahawk chop, chef

drew dry ages it in an aging facility right in the middle of the dining room. i built this aging box, and we age it there for 120 days. so the smell and the flavor gets so intense -- ed: you getting all this? we've got a crowd out here. pete: what's the biggest mistake people headache when they grill steak? >> the first thing is you don't want thin steaks. you want a nice, thick steak. when you're picking out your meat, get a lot of marbling sideways. not long ways because that's a vein. fat is good, right? more fat, more better, more butter, more better, right? then use the jack's seasoning. i sell it, these are three salts, himalayan, kosher, sea salt. a thick pepper to hold up to your grill. know your grill, find your hot spots. ed: that is awesome. what about the burgers now? >> the burger is, again, your blend. it's about 75 meat, 25 fat, and then you want to use the salt and perp on that. you don't want to press your

pete: fox news alert, two of the migrt caravan organizers arrested in mexico, but thousands are still pushing forward now about 400 miles from the u.s. border. our own griff jenkins is in central mexico with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: hey, pete, good morning. we're really in the final stages. it's north 400 miles to the texas border. 2500 migrants have been trying to catch rides all day. the local state police are helping along with the red cross and some ambulances, a couple of guys got injured here earlier. but, you know, there was a development in the last 48 hours, that is two members that were sort of organizing it, they're from honduras, were arrestedded. we have video of one of them. his name was carlos, that's all we knew about him. he had a bull horn, he was trying to help people line up. the crowd viewed him as an organizer, and we spoke with the

mexican general, and here is what he told us about interpol getting involved. listen. >> the interpol collect people's very numbers, and another arrest, two people, for interpol. >> reporter: so again, pete, we're just about 400 miles. and if you just look up this highway, you can see that's it, straight ahead. we had a map that we saw on this shelter on the wall, that's about 400 miles. they could go to knave slow laredo and cross into la raid doe, texas, although that is a little more dangerous because of cartels and such around. the chief of the border patrol says he's prepared and ready when we get there. it's going to be about monday or tuesday at this rate. pete: so our border patrol are prepared, but it also appears as if the mexican authorities are escorting this group to the

border, is that right? >> reporter: that's exactly right. if you just look along the line, or you see the number of mexican state police here as well as you look back down this line, they're literally keeping people organized. there was the injury, but they are helping to get them on trucks, they're helping even flag down trucks and trailers because it's not like mexico's federal government or this president, lopez obrador, who's very pro-immigrant has paid for any sort of federal resources. it's really just each mexican state as they move north is trying to facilitate with all the resources they can muster along with mexican citizens who have trucks that'll stop and put them on the back of flat beds. but the entire communities are certainly 100% involved and invested in cooperating and supporting the movement of these migrants to their next point up until they get to the u.s. border. pete: yeah. griff, looks very organized. thank you for bringing us the ground truth. appreciate it, stay safe.
