divide is still very apparent between democrats and republicans. i have great hope that we can heal and above forward. time will tell. jillian: a lot of people proud of the president and liked what he had to say. rob: half the crowd anyway. jillian: half the crowd. we will see what the rest have to say today. have a good morning. ♪ ♪ how do you like me now ♪ how do you like me now ♪ how do you like me now? steve: live from new york city, this is the state of the union post game show for 2019. how do you like him now? well, the ladies, the freshman class of the democratic party seemed to like the president last night. a lot. they gave him a standing ovation. ainsley: hoovation.ains several. steve: how many women were were in the workforce and how many were elected. brian: all wearing white. i guess 100 years since the right to vote 1919 to 2019.

easy to recognize. and they were all pumped up. because when the president was talking about jobs and women, they got jobs because they won a lot of elections, too. ainsley: the president right out of the gate talked about unity and bringing our country together. not about democrats and republicans. it's victory for the united states of america. if you missed any of it here is a montage and we will continue to go through different topics he talked about. watch this. >> the agenda lay out this evening is not a republican agenda or a democrat agenda. it's the agenda of the american people. we must reject the politics of revenge, resistance and retribution. victory is not winning for our party. victory is winning for our country. [applause] we have unleashed a revelation in american energy. i'm asking you to defend our very dangerous southern border out of love and

devotion to our fellow citizens. the proper wall never got built. i will get it built. [cheers and applause] the next major priority for me and for all of us should be to lower the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs and to protect patients with pre-existing conditions. [cheers and applause] >> chairman kim and i will meet on february 27th and 28th in vietnam. our military is the most powerful on earth by far. members of congress, the state of our union is strong. [cheers and applause] [chanting u.s.a.] brian: that catchphrase was not said in the beginning. it was said kind of in the

middle in the first third when he said the state of the union is strong because he thinks everybody was expecting that but, over all, the president, i thought, was great. i thought he was, i guess the third longest state of the union in history. but, overall, you can't imagine a more comfortable situation where he knows millions are watching around the country and around the world. and was hard not to applaud on maybe two thirds of that speech if you are an american. steve: here's the thing though. i think he went into that state of the union last night and i think he was a little apprehensive. nancy pelosi uninvited him to this thing a couple of weeks ago. and there he was, she had a tough time applauding for a lot of the things he said. brian: nice of her to read along. she seemed a little awkward. did you notice though, you know, he walked in and it is the custom for her to introduce him and he just started -- he jumped the ball, essentially. but, he made it very clear

what his argument for a re-election is going to be, a strong economy, strong defense and, of course, a secure border. and he said regarding the wall or the fence. he said i will get it done. but he did not call for a wall and he did not throw down an ultimatum to the democrats. they are probably not going to give him $5.7 billion. he is holding off on calling an emergency declaration. conference committee is going to do. they will meet later on today. nonetheless, he made the case why we need a super strong border and, in fact, he cited some things in the news yesterday. ainsley: he got to immigration fairly quickly, close to the want to speech. he talked about unity. he honored the world war ii veterans. he talked about jobs, the economy. i thought that was smart because that's one of his -- the best thing he has done over the last two years. talked about women, african-american jobs. unemployment is down. lower than ever. and then he talked about the investigations and legislation if we want peace

and legislation, we can't have war and investigations. he honored a few people and then he got to immigration and the wall. listen to this. >> this is a moral issue. the lawless state of our southern border is a threat to the safety, security, and financial well-being of all america. wealthy politicians and donors push for open borders, while living their lives behind walls and gates and guards. [applause] working class americans are left to pay the price for mass illegal immigration. tolerance for illegal immigration is not compassionate. it is actually very cruel. now is the time for congress to show the world that america is committed to ending illegal immigration and putting the ruthless

coyotes, cartels, drug dealers, and human traffickers out of business. [cheers and applause] brian: tough say okay do we want human trafficking? no. do we want illegal drugs coming across the border? no. where they differ on how to stop it and you might argue that democrats aren't really being sincere in saying the way they want to stop it or is it more about stopping the president. i thought overall i think if you look at how the president delivered the speech, i didn't really feel at any moment i was actually hearing a speech. i think i was hearing -- i was hearing an agenda, a progression of what's happened over the last two years. steve: a status report. brian: what happened in our past but not a laundry list where you think okay, did he that, he did that, he did this. i felt like there was a story being told there. steve: do you know what? , i read some of the professional speech writers who said it was a very well

crafted speech and steven miller had a lot to do with it and we heard the president had his sharpy out and worked on it at mar-a-lago as well. aside from the speech, which the president handed a copy to nancy pelosi and apparently it was on like poster board or something like that. she kept going through trying to figure out okay, how close with reto the end of this? a couple of times. she was standing up for an applause and she kept standing. ainsley: a lot of meals saying she was readings the game of thrones script and reading about bund. brian: they started booing and she settle down to her caucus. ainsley: did you notice when all the women stood up few times and the president said hold on you might not wanting to sit down because you will like this next statistic all the women in white. she had to follow their lea lead: steve: gary conley democrat from virginia, to your point said the president came

dangerously close to getting booed by democrats when he said there cannot be peace and legislation while there are war and investigations which is what ainsley mentioned a moment ago. there you see all the women wearing the white for suffrage. some referred to it as but nonetheless, it was fun to watch the cut aways. and one of the most delicious cut aways was of bernie sanders. and i'm hoping it's in this little sound bite. the president did talk about venezuela and then he did also talk about how the united states will never be a socialist country. now, that's something everybody has got to applaud for, right? no, not really. >> here in the united states we are alarmed by the new calls to adopt socialism in our country. [boos] america was founded on liberty and independence, and not government coercion,

domination, and control. [applause] we are born free and we will stay free. [cheers and applause] [chanting u.s.a.] glulg tonight, we renew our resolve that america will never be a socialist country. [cheers and applause] brian: not surprising bernie sanders would not be applauding when the president is talking about capitalism and not talking in a positive way about socialism, which we watch falling apart in venezuela and which he touched on and even got everybody to cheer for on our new policy down there. when you talk about the green deal, free pre-k, free college, free medicare for all. you talk about it unsustainable, untenable series of invoices that

america can't possibly pay but is getting great traction on the left. this is what i thought he was talking a little bit about 2020 and what he was going to be saying. steve: it was all about 2020. ainsley: we saw kamala harris in the crowd and kristin gillibrand rolled his eyes talking about the economy and naming all the statistics. we did look to bernie talking about socialism. we looked to nancy pelosi i wanted to see what her expression was going to be when he said all these politicians have walls around their houses yet they don't want to build a wall. she didn't like that. steve: there is kristin gillibrand. ainsley: rolling her eyes and kind of sighing. steve: sent out a tweet later for 5 bucks. you know what? that's against the rules. ainsley: rolling eyes 5.36 million jobs created. we are just getting started. wages are growing, especially for blue collar workers, frrns, hispanic americans, asian americans all reached the lowest unemployment levels and she rolled her eyes.

steve: how can you be against unemployment in the united states? the president also to the point he had talked about immigration and some of the things that were happening on our southern border yesterday. he also was talking about what we have heard out of the states of new york and commonwealth of virginia regarding late term or day of birth abortion and you would think that that would be something to talk about protecting the unborn. you would think everybody in that room would be on the same page. and, yet, when you saw some of the wide shots, very few democrats were standing for that. watch this. here's the president on late term abortion. >> lawmakers in new york cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother's womb moments from birth. and then we had the case of the governor of virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth.

i am asking congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late term abortion of children who can feel pain in a mother's womb. [cheers and applause] brian: i didn't see any democratic women in white budge on that. just stare gloomily straight ahead. ainsley: they cheered when andrew cuomo in when democrats in new york signed the legislation lit up the world trade center in pink. they cheered third term abortion. brian: amazing talking about this and this is racking to the virginia governor. remember, before the latest virginia governor controversy there was another one and that was the statements on radio and follow-up clarification, which in my estimation made things worse. ainsley: that you can kill a baby after a baby is born. brian: what i thought was really special and great speech writing and craftsmanship is the way you look back and notify the anniversary of the world war ii invasion and anniversary of landing on the moon and importance of childhood cancer and fighting it think about it, you don't have a

advocate representing new congress to push for an attack on this. i believe he wants $500 million to start attacking it and he gave you a great example. here's a series on the tributes that consisted, that took place last night in his hour and 21-minute speech. >> on d-day june 6th, 1944, 15,000 young american men jumped from the sky and 60,000 more stormed in from the sea. here with us tonight are three of those incredible heroes. just three weeks ago debra's parents gerald and sahara were burglarized and shot to death in their reno, nevada home by illegal alien. >> last year grace was diagnosed with brain cancer. she rallied her community and raised more than

built but did he not give congress an ultimatum. >> there is an ultimatum out there. we will find out by the 15th what is he going to do. either give him the money for the wall or he declares a national emergency. that's what i would like to see. one thing he said last night which he didn't say in the oval office. he gave an example why the wall is effected. when he stalked about san diego and el paso, i was hoping he would do that during oval office meeting. democrats say the wall is ineffective. what he did last night talking about two examples, he clearly showed the american people where that wall has been built it, resulted in decreased immigration, decreased crime. steve: san diego. i believe they took a shot of kamala harris at that time, the senator from the state -- rather california. ainsley: a lot of people didn't know the statistics, he said el paso is one of the safest cities in texas or in the country now after building the wall use ited to be very dangerous. >> the wall, if you think about it, if you use san diego as an example and the caravan surged the border

and ran to the border. two things stopped that caravan from being in san diego today the existing border barrier and the men and women in green. that's exactly what this president has asked for. more border patrol agents and a barrier. it makes perfect sense. last night he made that case strong. i didn't hear anything last night i didn't. everything i was hoping to hear i heard. i thought he hit it hard. brian: talked about the caravan and drugs on southern border. democrats don't mo and they think the president is exaggerating. here he is expanding on that. >> we have a moral duty to create an immigration system that protects the lives and jobs of our citizens. year after year countless americans are murdered by criminal illegal aliens. tolerance for illegal immigration is not compassionate. it is actually very cruel. brian: he talks about the dangers when people from honduras, from el salvador

or any of those tribal countries are coming here. they are taking their lives in their own hands and statistics are overwhelming. when they get here they have been through a lot and sometimes brutal things. ainsley: one in three sexually assaulted on the way up he reminded us, women at least. >> he is great leader. one of the things that makes him a great leader he has gone down to the border and talked to the men and women that work that front line. nancy and chuck have never been down there. maybe a decade from now, president trump will be recognized as one of the greatest presidents of our generation, if not the greatest, because is he a great leader. he has done more to protect this country. he has done more in the last two years than most presidents have done in eight. you can't deny that. that's a stone cold fact. we have great president. i don't think that olive branch last night is going to work. i think they will resist, resist, resist. look how much he has gotten done even though they have resist frfd day one. they have never accepted this president. ainsley: i will never abolish our heros from ice. he introduced an ice officer

who has saved 300 women or girls from human trafficking and he talked a little bit about that and how much peoplhow manypeople he has lock. here is stacey abrams who lost out election for governor of georgia but she was chosen to give the rebuttal. here she is about immigration. >> compassionate treatment at the border is not the same as open borders. president reagan understood this. president obama understood. this americans understand. this and democrats stand ready to effectively secure our ports and borders. but we must all embrace that from agriculture to healthcare to entrepreneurship, america is made stronger by the presence of immigrants, not walls. brian: the president went out of his way to say he wants immigration. it's illegal immigration. and yet they still try to continue to blend and confuse people with that statement. >> look, i said a thousand

times. we are a nation of law us. and i can't blame any of these people that want to come to the greatest country on earth. you can't want to be part of the greatest country on earth and not respect our laws. not about law enforcement but saving lives. i have seen many people died making this journey. we saw two children die making this journey. democrats need to listen and think about the victims of illegal immigration. you said it yourself. one in three women are sexually assaulted on the way to the country. children are molest you had. and we are bank rolling the very criminal organization that smuggled drugs and killed our border patrol agents. it's got to stop. brian: i thought the speech was excellent and steve and ainsley weighed in and you heard from tom. 76% of the people watching the speech on cbs thought it was really good. 72% favored it. overall on immigration and overall each on cnn 59% approved of the speech. it was a strong night

because i looked up to her and to be right next to her that was pretty amazing. ainsley: grace, have you quite a story the president talked about when you were 4 years old there you are waving to the crowd. you are famous now. the president was talking about when you were 4 years old you were raising money for saint jude to help other children and then you were diagnosed with cancer. tell us about your story. >> so, basically what happened was i was just drinking a lot of water and then like my mom told my doctor, but he said that it was like nothing. and then so, at least a year later so that happened in first grade and then in second grade my growth started to slow down. and that's when my -- that's when the pediatrician got suspicious because that doesn't usually happen. so then he send us to an endocrine who thought i had diabetes. she sent us for an mri and

she didn't think that she would find a mass in my brain so then immediately after that i began chemotherapy, so i had four rounds of chemo and then i had 24 rounds of proton radiation. steve: yeah. and then the president last night told the end of your story where there at saint jude's you put up a great big poster on a very special day and what, grace, did the poster say? >> it said last day of chemo. steve: and how important was that to you and your family? >> that was very important because i feel like chemo was definitely the hard part after like all the days where everybody was sad and where i didn't feel good. so to hang that up to show that i was done with it, that made me feel really good. ainsley: that was a very, very special day. probably one of the best days of your life. but last night was pretty special, too.

what was it like when you heard the president of the united states of america say your name and introduce you to that crowd? >> it was really cool because he is the president and like for him to just talk about me, that's like pretty cool. steve: sure. >> yeah. steve: it is pretty cool. grace, had you ever seen a state of the union before on tv or anything? >> i have seen like parts of it like throughout the years i have seen a bunch of my family watch it i have only seen a few parts of it. steve: how important is it to kids like you that the president announced his initiative last night to get the congress to fund the search for the cure for childhood cancer to the tune of $500 million? >> i think it's pretty amazing that he would do that because, like it makes me feel really good that people would just take their time and try and help more people. i think that that's pretty amazing.

>> as we speak large organized caravans are on the march to the united states. we have just heard that mexican cities, in order to remove the illegal immigrants from their communities, are getting trucks and buses to bring them up to our country in areas where there is little border protection. i have ordered another 3,750 troops to our southern border to prepare for this tremendous onslaught. steve: there was the president last night. you heard him demanding tougher border security at the state of the union address. ainsley: his call for action comes as thousands of migrants are waiting just to cross over into the united

states. brian: griff jenkins must have been listening because they talked about the caravan last night and he is live on the ground in mexico at our border, the mexico cab border. something has got to give. right, griff? >> yeah, guys. good morning. you know, brian, it's not just president trump talking about the caravans. here the migrants have settled in piedras negras you see the military and army and federal state and local police still maintain ago security presence. if you look at today's newspaper here in piedras negras, you see that headline: that's not the planet that's the initials of the governor of the state of. miguel, he says he will not allow any more caravans to come. this is interesting because there are two more caravans on the way. one on the 7th starting in honduras on thursday and 16th next week. meanwhile i also had a moment to talk to the mayor here. claudio beres. he says at some point everybody has got to come together and get a solution.

listen. >> at would make it better if democrats and republicans, the u.s. government, the mexican government, the honduran government, everybody work together to put on the table something that will resolve. this that will help me much better. griff: meanwhile we watched officials inside going through with the migrants trying to register them for this one-year temporary visa. we got a surprise visit from tom sherber. he wants to find out contactually what the composite make-up of and who is in this caravan. >> every time they have like that you have a criminal element taking advantage of it in the group and trying to cross the river and then do their thing. and we are getting ready for that on the other side. griff: meanwhile migrants we covered last october and november in tijuana were tuning in to the state of the union.

no idea exactly what they thought about it one thing for sure the caravan focuses are very aware of it we know there is more coming and they are certainly reacting to the news. it's so far been a pull factor if you will or magnet for more to come. brian: wait, they were watching the state of the union? >> that's right. everyone is tuned in. once these migrants wake up we will find out whether thethey were watching as well. they have cell phones inside the shelters and charging stations for their phones. i believe there is wifi in this actual building. they are in tune with what's going on because, guys, whether how the caravans are handled determines whether or not more people will come. right now it is very favorable for them and so they're on the way. steve: exactly. that's why they were watching. all right. griff, thank you very much. somebody else who was watching rachel campos-duffy. her husband, wisconsin republican congressman sean duffy was in attendance last night and, in fact, i saw him shake hands with the president and get an embrace from the president.

so, give us a feeling, sean, for what it was like on the floor because we saw the republicans loved much of the speech and the democrats, it seemed like, had a lot of reasons not to stand up. >> i had a little bit of a brew ha there with the president as he came down the came down the aisle. i thought it was unique in kind of the american themes that the president laid out that, republicans were standing up and applauding and democrats sat down for so much of the speech which indicates, obviously, they are not supportive of what the president is saying whether you are talking about abortion or immigration or border security and so from my vantage point, i thought it was shocking and as a legislator, how do you bring your congress together to actually work on bipartisan issues when some very fundamental concepts democrats don't agree with supportive of socialism? you have got to be kidding me. they couldn't stand up for the freedom fighters in venezuela trying to fight socialism. sat down for that i thought

there were nice moments where she had to clap including also the other women who are now in congress. i thought that was really nice. i thought this was a very good speech. i thought the best moments were when the president brought in the guests. when he highlight you had the world war ii heroes at the beginning and end of the speech. that was a nice moment and appropriate for him to do it. it's hard to see how that really fits in with his agenda foreign policy. this is president anti-interventionist. a president pulling troops out of syria. steve: he doubled down on that last night. >> that's the most controversial thing is he doing. remember his secretary of defense resigned over that other notice pentagon are against that decision. this was his platform to explain why he is pulling the troops out of syria. he didn't do that the most interesting thing he did on foreign policy in my view was his talk about afghanistan why he wants to draw down troops in afghanistan and that he is trying to negotiate now with the taliban. he said that's never been done before. it actually has been done before. the question is can would he be successful when the taliban's vision for afghanistan is so different than our vision.

ainsley: pete, you have fought for our country. we have been at war almost 19 years now. it's time for families to have their boys and girls back home time for us to lee. let us play this sound bite and get your opinion. >> we have spent more than $7 trillion in fighting wars in the middle east. as a candidate for president i loudly pledged a new approach. great nations do not fight endless wars. ainsley: pete, endless wars? >> even the greatest country the world has ever seen does not have limitless resources. if you are the commander-in-chief you have to decide whether your investment there has had a return worth that investment. and ultimately you honor the sacrifice of everyone that's been there. you want the best for the people in afghanistan, iraq and syria. steve: he ran on. this he ran on it result 3459ly when you have looming threats of china and russia and north korea and iran and big picture issues that will require resources and

attention, being mired down there with more troops than is necessary is not the focus. he ran on it he is right to focus on it. brian: morgan, this isn't tax cuts. this is responding to what the conditions are on the ground. responding to conditions on the ground, he got utterly rebuked by his own party yesterday in the senate and house because they know where we have been as mitch mcconnell said to martha mccallum we have troops in germany and japan that's not an endless war. that's a presence. >> i think maybe what the president and his team could do going forward is sort of describe to the american people why he feels like we need to move away from afghanistan and syria. it's not just about endless wars. it's because when the president came, in he created a national security strategy. and in that national security strategy, he is transitioning us to focus on great power conflicts with russia and with china. and so, in doing that that's a very different mission than the counter-terrorism mission that we have been n afghanistan and syria. you have to build more ships. you have to build more

weapons. i thought two highlights he talked about why we got out of the inf treaty. that's not getting a lot of play today. russia has consistently violated that treaty. brian: russia is now in both places a presence in afghanistan. they had peace talks in moscow. unbelievably and then they have a presence in syria. we are not running away from major conflict. >> russians have a presence in both places because during the obama administration we allowed them access and they became a resurgent world power because president obama under estimated then and that's why you have seen suspect tough policies from this administration. one thing i would add, don't forget venezuela. also something. brian: huge. >> one of the most important foreign policy successes of the past two years. brian: extremely bold. >> whenever mnuchin was sworn in, he put sanctions against the vice president of venezuela and this administration for the past two years has done a systematic rebuke of the sanctions in venezuela. very important. steve: guys, one more sound bite of import last night

and here is the president talking about the fight against isis when he started, they were big. now, not so much. >> when i took office, isis controlled more than 20,000 square miles in iraq and syria. today we have liberated virtually all of the territory from the grip of these blood-thirsty monsters. as we work with our allies to destroy the remnants of isis. it is time to give our brave warriors in syria a warm welcome home. steve: all right. david, you worked during the obama years, state department. what about the fact that when he took the hymn, isis was gigantic and how now it is a shadow of what it used to be. >> i go to iraq frequently i was there a few months ago again. the president has it slightly wrong here.

the effort to defeat isis was well underway when he became president. remember the operation to retake mosul began in october of 2016 before he became president under obama. by january, when he became president, isis was well back on its heels. the president president trump continued the policy of obama in terms of taking it to isis. he did it successfully. he did clear them from most of the territory in iraq and most of the territory in syria. but there was no great change in his approach towards isis. when he overlooked the fact that isis is still there, in iraq, and in syria, they have gone underground and they didn't address how we are going to continue to combat isis if we pull troops out of syria as he mentioned he wants to do. >> i love you there was a huge change. there was unleashing of the war fighter on rules of engagement under this president to actually go and crush isis. not develop the situation so we could minimize. crush them. bomb them, crush them and reduce them to rubble which they are today which brings

in to question and brian, you mentioned germany and japan, we are still there afghanistan, syria and iraq are definitely not germany and japan. brian: right. >> they don't have the same ingredients for a civil society. brian: training, equipping and supplying. >> i get that, the mission of a diplomatic afghanistan. >> we're not doing that we are confronting our enemies. enemy in isis. >> can you do it. brian: keep them from blowing this place up. >> of course. you can do it in a more measured way investment and measured society. brian: take them on directly using the kurds and trained forces as war fighters directly against al qaeda, isis, al-shabaab. >> that's mostly not what we have done for the last 18 years. we have seen american boys and girls normal iraq and make society and it didn't work. the minimal presence in syria is. that's a difference of opinion we are going to have. ainsley: let's talk about north korea because the president announced that he is going to have the summit on february 27th and 28th with kim jong un.

this is unbelievable. he said there has not been a missile launch in 15 months. if i were not president, there would be a major war with north korea. do you agree with that? >> i think that was one of the things that president obama said to the president trump coming in is this is going to be a huge elephant that you are going to have to take on. what was really interesting to me is that what he did not announce and that is that he didn't announce a follow-up meeting with president xi of china. we have that march 1st deadline on the trade dispute. we know behind the scenes that the chinese were pushing for a meeting. so having this meeting at the end of february right before the march deadline as it relates to trade i think is a very interesting maneuver from the foreign policy perspective. he is putting china on notice. so, for me the question is what are we going to get out of this second summit? it's a huge accomplishment that we're not at war with them and haven't tested over the past 15 months. now we need to see some really putting their feet to the fire on where -- do we have a full accounting of the weapons?

are you starting to dismantle? i think you will see secretary pompeo and the president continue to have this economic message to north korea that you can be integrated into the world if you will stop the craziness. brian: perfect symbolism, vietnam, they are commands economy now part of the world community who are tighter with us than they are with china, david, right? >> absolutely right. going back to syria. we had only 2,000 troops in syria. only 2,000 troops are there right now. very low cost for us. back to north korea which i think is very interesting. the president did break news. he is going to do this summit. that's great. but all he said about it is that there is more work to be done. i would have liked to hear how he plans to get kim jong un to actually give up his nuclear ambition. he is right, stopping testing for 15 months is great. that's an accomplishment. and president trump should be proud of that. but the big enchilada is getting kim jong un to move towards giving up his nuclear. >> one of the longest speeches ever. i don't know how much more we can go into.

every town is a border town. because of the impact of illegal entry into our country and on to our streets of our neighborhoods and communities. ainsley: wendy, d.j., i'm so sorry for your loss. we reported your son's death and put up his picture countless times and asked america to pray for y'all as you were going through your grieving process and i know you probably still are definitely still are. wendy, what did you think about the speech last night especially when it comes to immigration? >> i thought it was exactly what we had hoped to hear. i thought that he is still trying to get both sides to work together toward a resolution. of course, the wall for us seems like the perfect start towards immigration reform. ainsley: d.j., what were your thoughts. thank you by the way for serving we love our fire department and men and women. you are in the knoxville fire department the captain of that department. thank you for your service. what did you think of the speech last night when it comes to immigration and what were your thoughts when it comes to your son? >> i thought that the

president was down, i thought that he nailed it i thought he was very compassionate. i think he left an option there for the other people that came here legally. i thought that he made good points. that, you know, if you are here illegally, that's the problem. it's not the people that are here trying to make a better life for themselves but the people that are here doing it. ainsley: wendy, has to be surreal knowing you are there because you are an angel parent. what would you like to say to the democrat, to the republicans to your senator about making changes for our country so that it doesn't happen to other moms and dads? >> well, our son's last words to us through his journal that we found in his vehicle were my actions matter. and so, for us, their actions matter. their actions matter toward the american people. but especially all those affected by illegal crime.

let everyone come, come into a system they're likely never to pay into. we'll destroy our school systems are already so overburdened. our public school systems are at a breaking point. they want to flood it with other people. our health care system, the same thing. we want to be compassionate. we want to be able to help everyone. but we have to help our own people first. once we solve all of those problems, then we can deal with the rest of the world. the democrats go about this, we don't have our own problems to deal with in this country. we are all for immigration. but we want to bring in people who really are going to contribute, people who are here on a merit-based system. that is just common sense, guys. that is any other country in the world's immigration policies. that is what canada does. that is, it is amazing we're having these arguments today. the democrats are so out of touch. you know, their motives are not pure. anyone watching this sees that. brian: work visas are the

he talked about the economy and jobs. i thought of you because i knew we were going to have you on show. more people working in america than ever in our country's history, then he said wages are growing especially for the blue-collar worker. smart of him to begin the speech with that, positive numbers? >> i would have, yeah. look, this is inconvenient truth for a lot of people who are wrestling with the aforementioned cognitive dissidence. we have 7 million jobs that are open. a bug ching of those, majority, don't require a four-year degree. i got $700,000 i'm trying to give away this month in my foundation. we do this every year. we're over five million now. good for us. it is hard to award work ethic scholarships these days, we're affirmatively challenging the idea that unemployment exists because there are no jobs. there are a lot of jobs. ofthe discussions has broken don is it a good job or bad job?

we're not talking about the existence of opportunity. we're talking about the quality of opportunities that undeniably exist. as a result we frame the debate in a way we can't possibly win. we're having the wrong conversation. brian: the president said we have over 156 million people working in our country. we're a nation of 300 plus million. >> you will do math now. brian: you don't want me doing math, even balancing your checkbook. i said wait a second, there are kids, people too old, too young, a lot of people choosing not to work. some people are choosing that the system gives me stuff for not working so maybe i shouldn't but you also bring up the fact that these jobs that are open are sometimes, they're tough jobs. they need a work ethic. do you think as a country, we don't want to get our hands dirty? >> i think it is part of it but look, again the conversation we're having is, what is a good job? we're going to answer the question we asked. so we asked that question. we have a list of jobs that are

good. well those jobs require years degrees. we're lending money we don't have who kids will never pay them back to train for the jobs that are good. over here, pipe fitting carp pentry, construction trades, that lead many cases to a small business, those are not getting anywhere near the love. as a result you're not hearing stories of kids who are making 120 grand a year, who a year ago, learned how to weld. you're not hearing the stories. steve: you know what? you're absolutely right. here in the new york city area if you're a plumber you could make good money. i was talking to our plumber replacing boiler to our house, he said the last guy he was able to hire, worked for him two days then quit. i have a question for you, regarding what the president is talking about with illegal immigration. how it impacts our unemployment number. how does illegal immigration and migration impact the blue-collar worker in this country? >> i don't know but i know this, if the skills gap is real, and i

compromise on the wall. steve: right. >> compromise has to be done, we have to do something for dreamers, daca recipients in exchange for democrats giving him money in the wall. that is the compromise. democrats should compromise. should give in on that. trump could take a deal. he didn't talk about daca. i would like to hear something he would do for the dreamers. steve: you know why, morgan? i bet he wants to do a bigger deal with daca and increase the number with david was talking about. >> potentially but he doesn't have any good faith negotiating partner. daca has been on the table. tps has been on the table. when he talks about building the wall i think at this point he will have to look to the military, route he doesn't want to take a national emergency. this will be incredibly difficult because the democrats have proven they care more about hitting trump than they do about the daca recipients. steve: pete, it is not surprising. how many people in the wide shot, okay that is somebody from the resistance right there?
