cheer when the president was talking about how unemployment for african-americans, hispanics at all time low. growth for middle income, wage earners, 10-year high. they wouldn't applaud for that because of the bitterness of not being able to acknowledge that donald trump has led the economy and a good direction. laurel, i went to the back, try to look at the arc of democratic opposition, and a start of the moment that president trump was elected. they said "not my president." immediately, fifth avenue, resisters, 18 term that was used against the nazis in france. and i tried to get the elect electoral college to undo the election. he's never had a chance with these democrats, no matter what he does. when you talk about breaking norms in washington, this is a huge part of it. the media doesn't like to talk about that democrats are the ones who led the edge and breaking those. >> laura: the olive branch he

2,006 midterms, a disaster for republicans. you can't blow off the approval numbers. you have to keep them up. i think the speech last night, it did, it showed him as hopeful and optimistic and i think people want optimism about the future of the country. democrats can work with him on it if they are honest. >> laura, you are raising a fundamental issue. make no mistake some of the president numbers are not good. an economy that strong, the president's numbers are quite low. the reason is come because the president has also made himself a bit of a bull in a china shop. everywhere he goes, he brings the china shop with him. it's one thing to be the outsider who came to washington to disrupt. the other as if he goes too far and never allows himself to grow over the middle and to bring an independents and centrists. last night's speech was very good in that sense but it can't just be a once a year events. that is the issue with the president. he's got the base, the base is loyal, the base is solid. i wish he had a base plus

allegations a year ago. i joined your expression, laura, of carefulness in dealing with any of these allegations, because over the last several years, i've made it one of my missions to talk about the consequences of a false allegations. in this case, the quite so my question is, was there a cover up, and was the mainstream media complicit? >> laura: that is an entirely different to a new wrinkle on this case, and we are following up on that. monique, how does this work of the democratic party today? i'm confused. i've consistently said, you can to do this. you can to destroy someone's career but based on a 30-year-old costume or based onn allegation that nobody can corroborate. he said-she said unless there's something we don't know. these allegations against fairfax are really gross. i want to read them on the air.

testimony will be entered into the record." you can spend 10 minutes letting them testify? your now with steve scalise, how do you respond to their pushback on the narrative tonight? >> it was pretty bizarre. historically, when republicans were in charge, wind democrats were in charge, as a member of congress wanted to testify on a committee, they always provided a venue, that could happen. in this case, having a hearing in the judiciary on reducing gun violence. i've got a perspective, clearly mine dealt with something that happened to me, and i saw how goods were used to save people's lives. it should have been able to be part of the testimony. they wanted to focus on taking away the rights of law-abiding citizens. they are ultimately does not. so because my presentation would have been -- >> laura: it would've been very dramatic. my question is, again, everyone watching, they don't care about house procedures. bogged down there. why didn't doug collins, the
