steve: they won't be seeing that on new york city on monday. ainsley: mystery meat is what is in hot dogs. pizza friday was the best on fridays. steve: you were lucky you had a schedule. brian: now to issue at hand in washington, d.c. i am not for impeachment. those are the words of house speaker nancy pelosi. she is now against trying to throw president trump out of office. ainsley: a proclamation that could alienate many radical democrats. steve: griff jenkins joins us from washington with the latest divide in the democratic party. griff, she says simply he is not worth it. >> yeah. good morning, guys. it's one thing the speaker and the president agree upon. pelosi is slamming the brakes on impeachment. sending a clear message to specific members of her own party. telling "the washington post" this, quote: i'm not for impeachment. impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless will is something so compelling and overwhelming

and bipartisan, i don't think we should go down that path because it divides the country. and he's just not worth it pelosi's comments reflect a sent. held among democratic leadership that impeachment could backfire politically. the more outspoken freshman are not having any of it representative alexandria ocasio-cortez disagreeing with pelosi saying, quote: i wouldn't say she is completely concrete. should the mueller report drop, and we see something, i wouldn't count anything out. in the list of democrats supporting impeachment, that is growing. look at them there 14 and counting. so many so that late yesterday house majority leader steny hoyer was out trying to tamp things down telling fox news, look, we have 62 new democrats, not three. the white house, by the way, is not commenting. now, perhaps history is playing into pelosi's thinking. remember by the end of president clinton's impeachment trial his approval ratings had risen 7 points. urge gained five seats in

the midterms. steve: thanks, griff. they are worried if a failed attempt at impeaching will embolden donald trump's supporters and get him reelected ultimately that's what it is about. ainsley: you wonder wife would she say that? what is she up. to say she is laying the groundwork there has to be evidence and it would have to be bipartisan. some say she is laying the ground work to be able to say later on. i don't want it i didn't really have a choice. brian: adam schiff also agrees with the speaker of the house, but you can set your watch to the fact that in a matter of a week or two somebody else in the caucus is going to offer articles of impeachment. you even heard about it last week not only the three big freshman but congress green offered it when he was in the minority. nancy pelosi, sadly, for her sake will show again that she is not in control of her caucus. you mark my words within 10 days they will offer it anyway. there is going to be some type of "the washington post" story or allegation emerging from some closed door meeting where no leaks should emerge but they do.

and somebody in the caucus is going to trample over her proclamation. urk. ainsley: steny hoyer thinks nobody thinks there is going to be a conviction. we have 62 democratic new members into the just three. steve: jerry nadler who runs the house judiciary committee makes it clear they will not proceed with house impeachment unless they can get republican support. ainsley: bipartisan. steve: unless there is some smoking gun that's not going to happen. meanwhile, after this big win in the elections of 2018, you would think that the party would be -- the democratic party would be united on different things. dan crenshaw, the republican from texas, says that is really far from the truth. watch. this here he is last night with sean. >> it's extremely divisive. the country does not like that. what are they doing? they are bringing dysfunction to washington. the reality is right now that representatives like alexandria ocasio-cortez are driving the narrative of their party. and that's really problematic and i actually feel bad for a lot of my democratic colleagues who really don't agree with her.

the reality is she is driving the narrative. that's problematic for the democrats. the american people don't want to see it. brian: steve cohen a democratic congressman it's a shame new congressman don't know what it's like to be in the wilderness and minority. that's where they will end up. if you read rahm emanuel today first story on foxnews.com he is a failed mayor but a good politician. he says what people don't understand they are blowing an opportunity to win back the white house and keep the house by going way out to the left with their beliefs and by going off the charts with their socialist philosophy. these are democrats trying to warn other democrats. steve: right. meanwhile the president of the united states has taken to twitter. what is he trying to do is win over some republicans from voting against him. right now it looks like 15 republican senators have misgivings about the emergency declaration where the president, as you know, has declared an emergency on the southern border. so that he can take some money to build some wall. he was busy on twitter trying to make his case.

ainsley: he says they are -- they say he is stepping on the power of the purse. this is what he tweeted he said republican senators have a very easy vote this week it is about border security and the wall, stopping crime, drugs, et cetera. not constitutionality and precedent. it is an 80% positive issue, the dems are 100 percent united, as usual, on a 20% issue. open borders and crime. get tough r's. meaning republicans. brian: the think is republicans have cover because the reality at the border if you see what's going on for the humanitarian perspective. if you see the numbers that are coming through in terms of families, let alone the odds are the percentage of criminals that are coming through and drugs that are raging. you would think they would stand behind the president in this case. a strong constitutional argument by none other than sometimes critic of the president john hugh, former deputy assistant attorney general. he says it is constitutional what the president is doing. >> what they want is a different kind of through apply president trump than been applied to all previous

presidents. because what they are doing is trying to claim that a statute, not a constitutional power president trump is exercising a power under a statute to declare an emergency and then to transfer money from military construction projects. congress gave that power to the president and congress can always take it back. but what congress really shouldn't be doing is second guessing a president's decision that the national emergency is thered in the first place. steve: ron john of minnesota and pat tomb of pennsylvania are trying to come up with an alternate resolution to support the barrier but at the same time discouraging him and future presidents from declaring an emergency declaration. brian: if they get to 20 they will override his veto. it will get to the president's desk, they have to override his veto with 20 republican defections and do the same thing in the house. it will be really politically problematic for

the president to get that kind of rebuke from his own party. steve: republican senators are telling the administration that there is enough money in this year's budget to cover almost $6 billion he wants for the wall so he doesn't need to resort to the emergency declaration. ainsley: they want to support their conscious and president and the wall but at the same time they don't want him to step on the power of the purse. we have senator josh hawley who supports the president. is he from missouri. he will be live with us at 7:15. brian: he knows the law and attorney general in his own right. quick thing on this in particular is that if the president -- this is going to work its way through the course anyway. even if they voted for it and the president didn't have to use his veto, it was going to actually go through the court system it will eventually end up in the supreme court. the president wants to be able to keep building the wall along the way. steve: so for him to be out there on twitter today trying to limit the damage because at this point he

federalist aerial davidson. good morning to you. >> thank you for having me, steveing you. steve: sounds like she is taking credit rather than having nancy pelosi to do anti-semitic resolution do anti-hate thing and keep omar's name out of it? >> absolutely. i think it's not something she should be boasting about. congresswoman liz cheney was one of the republicans who voted against this resolution. and i think she said it perfectly. she said this resolution by expanding the language from not just anti-semitism but all forms of bigotry prevents the democrats from really having to condemn ilhan omar's comments. you know, it prevents them from something to engage in the criticism of the progressive wing of the party that they really should be engaging in. steve: right. but now earl the earl. >> jews are subjected to the vast majority of hate crimes in this country. i think it's deeply deeply problematic that the democratic party is not able

to singularly and explicitly condemn anti-semitism. >> linda sarsour of course the women's marco founder but during the break you were telling us she still has a problem with louis farrakhan, right? >> yeah. i think the entire women's march has had issues with louis farrakhan and they aren't able to outright condemn him. that's hugely problematic. i think if democrats were smart, they would do everything they could to distance themselves from the women's march because this is really bad imaging. this is horrible imaging. steve: what do you make of the power of these freshman congress men -- congresswomen on the democratic side who have been so powerful over the last two months they have been able to convince nancy pelosi to do some things she just really didn't want to do? >> absolutely. and i think, again, this goes back to what we were talking about over the break that i think pelosi is really afraid to condemn the progressive portion of her party. i think if she were smart

she would remove omar in the house foreign relations committee and not legitimize her as a voice went party. the democrats are sort of sitting on their hands. i think it's abysmal. steve: erielle when you look at what the republicans did when steve king said those things about white supremacy not only was he ostracized by his own party but he was taken off the committees as well. that's what they said that ilhan omar, that's the fate she should suffer but she has suffered no consequence of her comments. she has apologize, however. >> i think the issue, you know lee zeldin was another republican in the house who has been a critic of anti-semitism. is he a jewish republican in the house of representatives. he made an excellent point. he said if this had been a republican who had made these comments, it would be absolutely critical that this would condemn explicitly anti-semitism and condemn that congressman by name. instead we are left with this watered down resolution and you sort of see house democratic leadership backing away from really

benefits be tested if there is reasonable suspicion that the person uses or is under the influence of a drug. as of november 2018, 19.3 million households in america participate in the snap program. so does drug testing for food stamps go too far or is it necessary? here to debate it is registered independent and democratic strategist rochelle richie and mark little a lawyer and vice chair for urban renewal and education. rochelle, start with you, is that too much to ask that you are not on drugs to get free food. >> what the state senator has literally done is criminalized being poor in the united states. we have to think about in this. he has also characterized poor people as being drug addicts and manipulating the system. more than 75% of the recipients of snap benefits are families with children. furthermore, i don't think he really understands the requirements in his own state to receive such benefits. you can actually go to rehab for drug and alcohol addiction and still receive

snap benefits. is he going to test these people, if they test positive, guess what? they go to rehab and they get the benefits anyway. brian: mark, what's your sense? do you think it's too much to ask to make sure people aren't on drugs to get free stuff? >> well, i will tell you she really hit on something that i think is key. first of all, it's important to understand that the states have to work to get people to work and off of dependency on entitlement programs number one. number two, the drug testing requirement in this case is fair. it's fair for two reasons. it brings accountability for behavior, number one. and number two, it brings the opportunity to identify people who have a need, a need for treatment. we have an opioid crisis in this country. and when you have an opportunity for the state to partner with cbos and faith based organizations we have an opportunity to bring treatment instead of terminating benefits. brian: rochelle could you see it be a positive they are doing it in 13 other states.

>> i think it's positive if you are providing people with treatment. i don't think it's positive if you are going to tell people that because you smoked marijuana or because you maybe took too much ibuprofen without a prescription that you cannot buy groceries for your family. that's the problem i have. this senator should obviously be addressing the drug, you know, epidemic that we are seeing across the country but i don't think continuously to monitor people who have overcome addiction or who have paid their debt to society for, you know, their drug convictions should continue to be monitored in this way. at some point it turns into harassment. brian: mark, in particular, do you believe that most people on the program want off? >> well, i don't know if they want off. but i can tell you something about this bill. the reasonable suspicion language. one, is subjective. and it's really too broad. you shouldn't have to look back five years on

somebody's criminal history when, in fact, their probation for their prior offense is terminated. there shouldn't be a look back at all there are some problems with the bill. i know that people find that there is a stigma in testing. but the state has an obligation and a right to manage a program an entitlement program in its state. >> you know, brian, i want to mention one thing, i know one thing that people say about drug testing people as well. if you go to work you get drug tested if you have a job you are drug tested. i worked on the hill for congress, guess what as a press secretary for the house, we were not drug tested. so, not every single job is drug testing people. brian: right. >> certainly it is a standard in the country. we shouldn't hold them to any lesser standard. brian: mark little, rochelle rich i couldn't both made good points. we will see what alabama does. >> thanks, brian. brian: new york's mayor telling a million kids in new york what to eat to stop climate change. >> thinking about our kids, meatless mondays will help and create more balance in

judicial an list judge napolitano. i heard you went to law school. >> i did, brian. brian: can you make sense of this? schiff is lying but is it legal lying? >> let me get to the end of the story. if he did lie again and if he is prosecuted. brian: is schiff lying now? >> schiff is permitted to lie because he is not under oath and he is not the witness. i don't know. i'm not suggesting that congressman schiff was lying. i'm also going to tell you there was nothing wrong with congressman schiff's staff debriefing michael cohen. it's actually the better process to debrief the witness. ainsley: what's the problem then? >> before the testimony. the problem is they have two different versions of this debriefing. michael cohen's version was under oath before congress to which he has already been convicted for lying. if he lied and if he is prosecuted and convicted, expect them to throw the book at him. you are talking about -- are you ready for this? five years per lie. meaning you could probably find a number of individual lies in there if the doj wants to get that aggressive with him. my opinion? the doj is not going to

touch. this they view this as political. the american public will decide whether or not they believe michael cohen. steve: judge, you simply cannot lie to congress. >> absolutely. steve: if you do it once, they should go after everybody who lies before congress. >> remember when they went after roger clemens for lying about the contents of his urine. they forgot to administer the oath to him so they couldn't charge him with perjury. they charged him with misleading congress. brian: congress has come out and said i'm not going to pursue this. if you lie i will nail you to the cross. >> the doj will take very serious lay referral from a committee. 42 members on this committee. we think he lied. we want you to investigate it two people, two republicans who are adverse to him, i don't think they are going to take that seriously. steve: sounds like the difference the first sound bite we played michael cohen said i talked about topics and mr. schiff said i talked about security the threats. they could both be right. >> correct. ainsley: is that the topic? >> the other issue is the government doesn't like to prosecute for lying unless

it's material. so, this isn't the substance of what he said about donald trump. this is the preparation for revealing the substance they don't like to go there my prediction? nothing will happen. the american public will decide. most people have already. whether or not michael cohen is worthy or unworthy of belief. steve: when schiff's staff went and talked to mr. cohen, wouldn't it be appropriate to invite the republicans to come on board as well? >> in my opinion, yes, they don't do that republicans have their own staff as you know. and that staff talks to the witness alone and the democratic witness talks to them alone. brian: i got news to you, judge, according to the last chairman in oversight the only time in the bengals hearings they did not have a democrat with them was one time when a whistle blower did not trust democrats to blot whistle with them there besides the invitation went out and elijah cummings went crazy when he was barred one time. >> right. i have great respect for that former chair of that committee and is that true proper way to do it. a lot of this is a political

game. republicans trying to get what they can ahead of the democrats and the democrats doing the same thing. our tax dollars at work. these are the people that we hire to run the government and they are playing political games with each other. where does this end? ainsley: what were some of the lies? he said he didn't want to work at the white house. >> right. ainsley: people at the white house say that's not true. >> did lanny davis ask for a pardon rather than him asking for a pardon? brian: lanny davis said he came out and asked for a pardon. michael cohen was wrong about that. >> if you correct yourself very soon after you make the statement, is that still a lie? is the government going to get anywhere prosecuting that? steve: judge, this is the problem with inviting somebody who has been convicted of lying to congress to testify in front of congress. >> i have seen this in my courtroom. sometimes perjurers tell the truth because they don't want to go through the perjury prosecution. brian: they liberal their goal. now they are looking into insurance claims at mar-a-lago after a hurricane. now they are looking into

despite all the push back, the school defended the slogan. not only has the video won national awards but the slogan has been hit with students as well as. jesse leach is a campus reform.org correspondent and student at the university of wyoming and she joins us now. good morning to you, jessie. >> good morning. thank you so much for having me. ainsley: you are welcome. what was your reaction when you learned the school's new slogan? >> i thought to myself this isn't anything new. as the leadership institute campus reform reports all the time there is an outrage culture. everybody wants to be part of the newest outrage a couple people at the university of wyoming wanted a bite at that apple. when i heard about the controversy i had two initial reactions the first is these professors are completely missing the facts. the fact is when they claim that this slogan is sexist and that it is xenophobic cowboys exist all over the world second reaction is they're completely missing the point.

the point of the slogan is that the world needs more people with the cowboy spirit. that's the spirit of hard work, determination, self-reliance and integrity. ainsley: it seems the students love it though when the t-shirts with that slogan were on the shelves in your bookstore they sold out within a week. >> yeah. you are exactly right. my roommate actually works at the school bookstore and she was telling me just yesterday they cannot keep the slogan merchandise on the shelves. ainsley: wow. so tell me about these faculty members. there are about two dozen faculty members that complained saying that the term cowboy is racist, sexist. hetero sexist it stands for genocide or represents genocide. what else your reaction to that? >> i just think it's silly. i know that, you know, i was born and raised in wyoming. i was born and raised wyoming's largest city. and aye never once related the words cowboy with genocide, screen phobia, anything like that. and, again, guy back to what the slogan is meant to be.

right now. steve: maybe that hurricane that you were talking about a little while ago would wipe it all out. brian: only the internet. i would love it to clean up. steve: meanwhile, talk a little bit about what is going on in the news and down in washington, d.c. there is still a lot of back and forth over some of the comments made by freshman congresswoman ilhan omar. of minnesota. a democrat. you know, the moderates really helped the democrats take control of the house. but now the democrat party is being defined by the extreme members rahm emanuel writes today in the atlantic. particularly what has got some people going is the fact that this woman over the last couple of weeks has made anti-semitic comments and looked as if they were going to have a anti-semitic resolution with her name in it, but then they got talked out of it her name wasn't in it and then it became anti-hate. ainsley: the president said that's ridiculous. he was very disappointed they didn't include her name in the resolution and thought it was very watered down. brian: right. i think that's pretty clear

that steny hoyer amongst the leadership who says there is more than three new people in congress. we have over 60. >> so that question came up with sarah sanders yesterday. we actually had a back and forth when she had a press conference yesterday because the acting omb director wanted to introduce his budget and she took some random questions. let's listen. >> does the president really believe democrats hate jews? >> look, the president has been an unwavering and committed ally to israel and the jewish people and frankly the remarks that have been made by a number of democrats and failed to be called out by democrat leadership is, frankly, abhorrent and it's sad. >> can democrats hate jewish people? >> i think they have had opportunities over the last few weeks to condemn some abhorrent comments. i'm trying to answer if you will stop talking i will finish my statement. >> the president has laid out clearly his position on this matter.

democrats have had a number of opportunities to condemn comments. that's a question you should ask democrats what their position is since they are unwill to call this what it is and call it out by name and take actual action? steve: what the president told reporters last friday is that the democrats have become anti-israel party. he said they have become anti-jewish party and that's too bad the president said. ainsley: some of those reporters saying to the president really believe that only democrats hate jews. brian: meanwhile late on friday politico has a magazine and they interviewed congresswoman omar where she was talking sweepingly about the state of politics today. and she had something really disparaging, i thought, to say about president obama if you use the quote and if i read it out loud you will agree quote hope and change offered by barack obama was a mirage and omar says, quote: we don't want anybody to get away with murder because they are polished. we want to recognize the

actual policies that are behind the pretty face and the smile. i don't know if you could take that two ways. that, to me, is a disparaging comment on president obama saying really there is no difference between president obama and president trump in her mind. steve: her well, here is the thing. she said that politico reporter misquoted her and then the tape was out there and it completely supported the politico reporter's particular report. she deleted the tweet. buff then yesterday a fox news producer had all sorts of questions for her and listen to what she says about president obama and president trump. >> do you think that president obama is the same as president trump. >> absolutely not. that is silly to even think and equate the two. one is human and the other is really not. ainsley: she said the obama administration was

responsible for the caging of children at the u.s.-mexico border and droning of countries around the world but later said that reporter distorted her words. brian: although it's on tape and it didn't. i find myself -- we are doing a lot of talking points on stuff she tweeted, stuff she said, stuff she wrote and her apologies and the walk back of the apologies and the refusal to admit apology. guess what else is not happening? the democrats' agenda is not moving forward. the house is not on the same page. speaker marginalized. speaker categorize sod strong and so tough part of the background noise because of three freshman. steve: i will tell you what, we had a guest on about an hour ago who said it was very clear linda sarsour, the co-founder of the womennens march was taking credit for mobilizing a lot of progressives and, in fact, 637 signatures went on to a petition asking nancy pelosi not to particularly name omar in the resolution and to make it more about hate rather than specify

anti-semitism. ainsley: here's a story that didn't get a lot of coverage. we talked about it last wednesday or thursday, i guess. because ash wednesday was on wednesday. this child in utah went to church with his family and got the ashes and says a teacher made him remove the ashes. listen to this. >> the teacher walked over and said like what is that and i was like it's ash wednesday and i'm catholic. no, it's inappropriate. go take it off. she gave me -- made me wipe it off. they wiped it off in front of all my friends in the corner. and like why did she wipe it off? i said i don't know she just made me. steve: yesterday out there in utah. mona patterson had a press conference to explain that she did not -- and there she is right there. she thought it was just dirt. she didn't understand it was a religious symbol, she said. here she is.

>> i had no idea it was a religious symbol. when i learned it was a sacred symbol for ash wednesday, i immediately apologized to the boy and his family. my entire life has been centered around respecting diversity. i would never ever intentionally disrespect any religion or any sacred symbol. it was a total misunderstanding. brian: in fairness to her ash wednesday just started a few years ago. [laughter] i mean it's just one of those new holidays. ainsley: she has been on administrative leave since that occurred. steve: when she said you have to wipe it off. this is religious observance. this is part of the ash wednesday thing. he told her that a number of times. apparently this young man's grandmother doesn't want her

fired but at the same time doesn't apparently believe the story she said, quote: it's kind of hard to swallow a little for me. there needs to be a lot of training for all religions and all believes. brian: what a great lesson for the kid to watch a teacher go up there and say something that they know blatantly is not true. the fourth grader told i told her what it was and she made me go in the corner and wipe it off. she fights dirt and grime like she is a member of the tide foundation. are you kidding me? steve: she said she thought it was dirt and didn't realize it was religious. brian: caught her by surprise this ash wednesday thing popped out of the blue. ainsley: in her defense he did tell her. he should have been able to have it on there. this is in utah two. thirds of that state are mormon so maybe she didn't know. it has been around for a very long time. thousands of years. brian: just one of those things just catching on now. ainsley: new york there is so many catholics here you see everyone walk around with the ashes and down

♪ knot. brian: president trump is prepping the senate as they vote on a measure against his national emergency at the border tweeting this republican senators have a very easy vote this week. it will be thursday. it is about border security and the wall stopping crime, drugs, et cetera. not stiewcialt and precedent. it is 80% positive issue. the dems are 100 percent united as usual on a 20% issue. open borders and crime. get tough republicans. next guest plans to vote know josh hawley sits on the government affairs committee. he thinks the president is right on this. senator, you are former attorney general. you know the constitution. many other republicans at least four say this is not constitutionally okay. why are you on board with the president? >> look, first of all, we have a crisis at the border, brian. and it's clear to anybody who has looked at the

situation. brian: i agree. >> congress has heard testimony on this over and over. we have a smuggling crisis. we have a humanitarian crisis, we have a drug crisis. we have a law enforcement crisis number one. number two, congress has given the president this authority. in 1976, congress passed a law that gave the president the ability to declare a national emergency. it's a simple question is this an emergency or not. congress has said he is declare a national emergency. this clearly is an emergency. that's why i will be voting no against the democrats and yes for the president. brian: you are not going to get every republican. have you lost at least four. you could lose as many as 10. why? why are you on -- not on the same -- why is your party not on the same page? >> you know, i can't speak for other senators, but, you know, i know there are some who think-i think some people don't understand the situation. some people think that the president is saying that he has some inherent authority to do this. they don't realize that congress has actually passed a law that has been invoked i think it's 56 or 58 times

by other presidents. i mean, there is lots of precedent here. it's been invoked for stuff like overseas elections. our own national security on our own border is definitely a national emergency. if that isn't, i don't know what is. brian: here is senator schumer he doesn't know what is. >> founding father's exquisite balance of power is now attempting to be undone by president trump. members of both parties should come together and say no. brian: and senator rand paul agrees with schumer. listen to this. >> wanting to fund something that the congress wouldn't give you the money for, i think, really doesn't, you know, this is a longstanding problem and people saying there is no emergency. no i think there is a problem at the border. we have to do it in a way that's consistent with the substitution. constitution. >> they are totally wrong. i didn't hear chuck schumer objecting when president

look at the results. hillary clinton wound up with 71% of the jewish vote and donald trump got about a quarter. do you see that changing in the next election, the ratio between the republicans and the democrats? >> we're obviously very realistic and also optimistic under president trump, literally anything can happen. but, also we know that the democrats are currently helping us out. i mean, they are moving our point. you know, they don't care about israel. they don't care about the jewish people. and the jewish people need to show them if they don't support us we are not going to support them. we know obviously that the jews have overwhelmingly supported democrats. it doesn't mean that the jewish vote should be discounted. ainsley: why is that when you hear the president talk about his pro-israel stance and meeting with benjamin netanyahu. >> i have no idea. honestly i never understood it after the president moved the embassy. some presidents including president obama and bush promised to do that i thought there would be a shift. i thought people would understand, jewish friends would understand why i supported him didn't at first. they didn't. they never changed their mind. they stuck to the narrative president trump is bad and they refuse --

people like myself should just shut up because they know what's right. on the other hand, they seem to keep stud ytion it forever and if there is something new to find out. and those two things are completely contradictory. carbon dioxide is actually a benefit to the world. i'm in washington this week for a director's meeting of the co 2 coalition whose purpose and you should take a look at the co 2 coalition online because we have some of the top scientists in the united states and canada on board and we believe that carbon dioxide is entirely beneficial to both the environment, to agriculture and forrest industry and to the climate of the earth. ainsley: patrick, i know you are president of green peace in canada. seven years as a director of green peace international. you founded this organization and then you left. why did you -- why were you one of the founders and why did you decide to leave? >> i was one of the founders doing a ph.d. in late 1960's, early 1970s in

ecology. i was radicalized by the cold war and the threat of all out nuclear war and the emerging consciousness of the environment and we did a lot of good things. we stopped nuclear testing in alaska. we have stopped it in the south pacific. we saved the whales. and we stopped a lot of toxic waste being put into the ocean. and the air. but, by the mid 1980s we had gained a lot of notoriety and we were bringing in a lot of money and we were hijacked by the extreme left who basically took green peace from a science-based organization to an organization based on sensationalism, misinformation and fear. brian: they are militant and this next generation is militant about the environment. it's their number one issue. here is what green peace said about you moore does not represent green peace. his statements have nothing to do with green peace's positions. the new green new deal resolution has the potential of create family sustaining union jobs to protect our nation's clean air, water and communities. your reaction?

>> the fact is you cannot do agriculture for 8 billion people. produce the food for 8 billion people without fossil fuels as far as we know it we don't have an alternative, especially for transportation. which is over 90% dependent on fossil fuels. it's one thing to have a battery-powered vehicle for your family. it's another thing to try to get 40 tons of food at a time into the cities. it's just not going to happen. steve: patrick, you also said if fossil fuels were banned every tree in the world would be cut down for fuel for cooking and heating. >> absolutely. the fact is 85% of the world's energy is fossil fuels. and the carbon dioxide being emitted from burning it was actually taken out of the atmosphere and the oceans, millions of years ago and stored in sediments. we are now releasing it back into the atmosphere where it can fertilize the life on earth. carbon dioxide and water are

steve: investigators are working to try to figure out what caused ethiopian airlines flight 302 to crash just six minutes after takeoff killing all 157 people on board including 8 americans. many not involved with the investigation are pointing to the plane's model. it's the boeing 737 max 8. because that is the same model plane that crashed in indonesia just five months ago. now, more than a dozen airlines around the world are grounding their max 8s but the faa here in the united states says the planes are still air-worthy. what do you need to know? here with his take is former faa chief spokesperson scott -- good morning to you. >> good morning, steve. steve: when you hear the two stories about the two planes that crashed. you hear the first one went up and then it went down. went up, it went down.

>> same thing happened to this. but the first plane had some equipment that wasn't working right, right? >> that's correct. they had reports that one of the sensors that actually control the up and down pitch of the plane was not operating properly and they allegedly had replaced it. so they had some data and with that data they were able to recreate the scenario, boeing did, and so the faa went out and said all right, folks, if this happens, this other thing could happen to the plane, which would make the plane point the nose down on takeoff. steve: right. >> with the second crash we just don't have any data. and the faa is really a data-driven agency. and so until we really know what happens and what caused this, i think the faa is going to continue to see and try and collect as much data as they can. steve: scott, because this crash occurred in another country is, that going to mean that data collection is going to be more challenging? >> that's a great point. we do have faa investigators over there.

we do have ntsb investigators over there. they are just guests of the country. the countries themselves will run the investigation. so, while we may want to get in to it a little more deeper, we are still just guests. and so we may not have access to all the information. you know, i think both these countries have excellent relationships with the u.s. so i think everybody is trying to figure out exactly what happened. but, it's not as if the crash happened in the u.s. where ntsb would have primary jurisdiction and get into every level of detail to figure out what happened. steve: the faa right now is saying that there is not a problem. you look here in the united states, southwest airlines has 34 of the max 8s and american airlines flies 24 of them. relatively new model. scott, if you are booked on a max 8 today, would you feel absolutely safe about buckling up? >> yeah. i would, actually. i mean, i still think

ways, very badly about the negative publicity that it's brought to that zoo and thank goodness they are not going to euthanize the jaguar. ainsley: raising kids nowadays. we didn't have those issues. you always raise your kids the way your parents raised you. now with social media i can't go to my mom and dad and say how do i treat this or do i let my daughter do this or that because they don't have that experience and we are learning as we go. >> yes. ainsley: people are posting pictures they want all these likes. you look at some people's lice and you think they have this wonderful life and then you talk to them and they are suffering with the same issues that we all are. >> i think in many ways and i spoke with brian offline about this, people are so caught up in just communicating only through social media and not talking to one another. instead of living their best lives, it's about sharing it on social media and trying to get the reinforcement of others and that's why they sometimes act out and do the crazy things that they do.

i wonder how he will handle it. reporter: good morning, guys. impeach or not to impeach. telling "the washington post" this, i'm not for impeachment, impeachment is so divisive to the country, unless so compelling and overwhelming, bipartisan i don't think it will go down that path an divide the country and he is not worth it, he, being president trump. has not commented. pelosi commented among a sentiment by all democrat leadership who worry leadership could backfire. the list of democrats supporting impeachment is growing. 14 and counting. seasoned hands like maxine waters, and al green and alexandria ocasio-cortez and rashida tlaib. aoc disagreeing with pelosi's comments. i wouldn't say she is completely concrete should the mueller report drop and we see something, i wouldn't count anything out. not clear at this point when pelosi patch the crack in the

caucus to get impeachment off the table. democrats ought to cult president clinton. by end of his impeachment trial, he addedpoints to popularity and five seats to the congress. ainsley: unless it is something so compelling, overwhelming and bipartisan. some people are laying groundwork later today i didn't want to but we had no choice. connell: tom steyer, among people not tolerating that. adam schiff is buying into it for now. steny hoyer said the speaker was very firm in her statements but i coy alexandria ocasio-cortez if i happen to disagree with that take is indicative of where this thing could be going. steve: nancy pelosi is playing down impeachment talk for months. jerry nadler, he runs the judiciary committee in the house, he has said that the democrats would not proceed with it if there were no republican

support. nancy pelosi ultimately figures the best way to beat donald trump is at the polls in 2020, rather than try to impeach him if there is no support in the senate. ainsley: we keep hearing from the three freshmen congresswoman. steny hoyer said we have 62 new democratic members, not three. aoc, alexandria ocasio-cortez, she kind of walked back her comments. she was saying we have to see what happened in the mueller investigation. she said i would defer to the wishes of the party leadership. connell: she should tell the congresswoman from michigan. looks like she was starting with impeachment last week. thursday there will be a vote at which time republican cost lose, this vote to disapprove to president's emergency action would give $8.6 billions for the border wall, repurpose funds. most controversial of defense funds of $3.6 billion.

there is some people who recognize the emergency and crisis at the border like rand paul but said constitutionally i can't vote for this measure i want the power of the purse to remain with congress. steve: according to "the hill" there are 15 republican senators who have miss giving about it. so the president is going to lose in the senate because of the republican support. what they're trying to do, they're trying to control the damage. ainsley: keep the tally low. steve: exactly right. meanwhile a number of republican senators are telling the administration there is enough money left over in the current budget that he could get close to that $6 billion without having to declare the emergency declaration. that should only be used as a last resort the administration says. of course as we've been telling you the republican have been trying to talk him out of it. this is why the president is tweeting. >> republican senators have very easy vote this week. it is not border security and

israel whatsoever. connell: she came out against other democrats like president obama saying hope and change was a mirage. >> yeah. i think what is really interesting is the other democrats she going after along with aoc and rashida tlaib is really hurting the democrats in the swing districts around this district for instance the most where they're really trying to distance themselves from comments like hers because they're going to hurt them a lot more than her being from more of a safe blue district here in downtown. connell: you're in, democrats will represent this district. you're saying the rest of surrounding areas are distancing themselves and that could hurt the democratic party. what is the sense on the ground when you walk into coffee shops and the bars, hear about who is represent ising awe and what she is saying? >> i have a lot of friends who are moderates or democrats and they overwhelmingly do not agree with representative omar and i think that the line that people

are going to have to walk on to justify voting for her is going to become a lot more difficult. i think, even when you look at people like speaker pelosi or representative dean phillips here in minnesota, another democrat, these people are definitely starting to get annoyed by the comments she is making because they don't do a service to democrats. they will be used more as talking point for republicans to show who the extremist party is in this country. connell: who is your link to the jewish community? >> i have tremendous amount of jewish friends. half of my business partners are jewish. it is incredible. you talk to senator rudy boshwitz. a powerful them per of the jewish community and former u.s. senator. the jewish community does not like to hear this type of thing. they're very supportive of israel needless to say. they do overwhelmingly vote democrat. connell: got you, tony. i have to end it there. interesting to see because she

really push back. they did the resolution, it was meaningless. they didn't call out specifically omar for her comments but they made it so watered down that it was absurd and completely meaningless. i think when you're dealing with anti-semitism you have to push back hard, you have to push back directly. remember nancy pelosi was defending it, she just didn't know what she meant. that is insult to her, that she is not smart enough to know that she is using anti-semitic language which she clearly was. ainsley: we talked to a young lady earlier in the show, her name is elizabeth pitco, she said, she is jewish, she is tired of what the democratic party is doing. she started this organization, a movement, jetoxodus. listen to this. >> there is anti-semitism in the democratic party. it was not the original anti-semitism which was lack of leadership. they were supposed to condemn what happened but failed.

the anti-semitism start the with omar got worse and worse with supporters in her own party, when leadership failed to condemn that, that shows they're a party of anti-semitism? ainsley: what is your reaction? >> i think she has a good point. that there is organized effort to say to other jewish people there is increasingly no room for you in democratic party, not only allow or tolerate but look the other way at language historically not just offensive. let's be clear. it has been dangerous for jewish people. for thousands of years jewish people have been haunted by anti-semitism that led to mass murder. i think we have to be very clear. i'm not saying democrats are proposing mass murder. i am making that clear. somebody will go nuts on it. i'm telling you historically when you start with antisemetism, marginalizing people, saying they're not as important as other people that is the beginning that leads to the path that is not just
