the mastermind of the nationwide college admission scandal, pleading guilty to accepting millions in bribes from parents trying to get there kids into elite schools, two of those in hot water, felicity huffman and lori laughlin. here are the latest developed. not the only parent involved in this. >> operation varsity blues is all anyone is talking about, georgetown, yale, stanford, university of texas, ucla, the fbi describing it as a sham that strikes at the college admissions process was the biggest name so far felicity huffman who met with a confidential witness who said he could control an sat testing center and arrange for someone to proctor her daughter's test and correct it.

the lion's share is legal, but it is assisting children and taking standardized tests and enrolling them in enrichment, padding resumes and some parents moving into school districts where your public school education is going to get certain advantages. they had a system that invited this kind of gaming and this is the logical extension of this into illegality. this is simply a manifestation of what has been the case, the wealthy and powerful gain the system and ensure their children have advantages but most do not have. >> olivia jade is apologizing this morning for a video, 2 million youtube followers saying she didn't want to go to college. she and her sister attend usc.

more to come on this today. paul manafort said to be sentenced in the second criminal case. the former campaign chairman is facing a decade behind bars on conspiracy charges. he pleaded guilty to those charges as part of the with robert mueller, prosecutors later said manafort breached that deal with investigators and manafort was sentenced to four years in prison for tax and bank fraud. lisa page says the justice department told agents not to charge hillary clinton. some newly released transcripts from her closed-door testimony page said the agency including james comey thought that clinton might have committee, quote, gross negligence. she said, quote, the justice department assessment is it was constitutionally vague. they did not feel they could bring that charge. the attorney general at the

time, loretta lynch, previously said she would accept the fbi recommendation. boeing 737 max 8 planes are flying in the us. that type of plane crashed in ethiopia over the weekends, including eight americans, this was the second of the crash involving a 737 max 8 in months. growing number of us lawmakers are calling for federal regulators to take action. the faa is doubling down against the ban. a review shows no systematic performance issues and provides no basis to what is grounding the aircraft. the european union, china and a range of other nations and airlines have shutdown use of those just as a precaution. boeing's ceo assures the jet liners are safe. they are voicing safety concerns of their own for months.

group, beverly holberg, thank you for joining us. >> reporter: we mentioned in the intro this is the largest college cheating scam ever prosecuted, not necessarily the first-ever, just the first cost. what are your thoughts on it? >> we are learning more but definitely when the news broke a lot of people were commenting on this. from a variety of different angles, one thing to point out is these children, wealthy elites and business owners are taking spots reserved by other students, it goes so far as one child claiming he was disabled so he would have help on admissions test. when money speaks, money is king when it came to the fraud that was going on. universities and colleges were not involved in this, we are talking a few bad actors.

heather: i don't know how it is possible that all the schools were everybody at a high-level didn't know this was going on. the students getting in on the case where they played certain sports they never played and some of by school they came from never had those sports. >> you had one student who said she was there because of crew but she never played crew in her life. the university of southern california came out and said they were victims as well but we need to get to the bottom of that. when you talk about how many families were involved, this was a widespread scandal among different schools. we need information, universities and colleges are not being bribed by the money as well. heather: you talk about students not being aware of it, social media posts, coming back to bite them. listen to olivia jay, lori laughlin's daughter.
