>> by any one definition, by any measure, right now we have a crisis at southern border, according to commissioner of cbp, 4,000 apprehensions in one day alone this past week and we are on pace for one hundred thousand apprehensions in southern border this month. that is by far greater number than anything i saw on my watch in my 3 years of secretary as homeland security. jillian: do you think the democrats like hearing that? >> well, too bad, whether they do or what if they don't, somebody is speaking the truth. the president has brilliantly held two press conferences already with the experts, with border patrol agents, with angel moms and dads and they have pleaded and begged to the public and to the members of the house that, you know, they need assistance, financial assistance, they need more bodies tat border. i actually just recently testified last friday here in the state of nevada against

assembly bill 281 which would make a state a sanctuary state, that's something that most nevadans that i'm aware of aren't in favor of. rob: you have to wonder at this point when people see a number like million in a year, what percentage of people are okay with that many people coming into the country? >> there's not, and i recently had a friend who was originally from méxico and she worked so hard for so many years to become a citizen, she just became a citizen last week, we were so proud of her and it makes her livid when she sees that there are illegal immigrants that are getting away with so many things. it blows us away and the fact too that we have legislators here in the state of nevada that are actually considering turning our wonderful state into sanctuary state is also mind-blowing, we recently had four people in northern nevada

that were murdered by illegal immigrant and we found out he had actually had a criminal record, why, why is this happening? you know, one person is too many. jillian: let's take a look at some numbers here, border security numbers specifically, you're talking about more than 53,000 apprehensions on average per month in fiscal yearre thans you can see encounters last tuesday alone. what do you think it's going to take for people to wake up, the numbers aren't getting any better? >> they aren't getting any better and unfortunately we have a very polarized political atmosphere where you've got the left that, they're going to be kicking and screaming against anything that the president brings forward, even if it's against the -- the safety of the citizens of our country it seems. you have the democrats for years have played identity politics

magazine, wendy, do you think it's deserving? >> i think it's deserving because of where she came from, a year ago she was a waitress serving tacos, look at her, she's in congress, so definitely the american rags to riches story and i think the democrats can learn some things from her, the big one populism in the ways that can transform your campaign, however, i do not believe that democratic party bear-hug one candidate or one person in congress because, you know, everyone has their issues and everyone has their flaws and she's not immune to that. we have to be mindful who we crown as poster child, savior, so to speak because that would end up hurting us in the long run. jillian: fair enough, joe, i want to get your take on, this time magazine seem to praise her but let's take a look at other time magazine covers involving donald trump and you'll see it's a different story, the first one here from july 1st, we have another cover from september of 2018 and a third one from january of 2018, none of them really quite as praise-worthy.

>> no, not at all, i don't think surprising to anyone time magazine and most of mainstream media has bias against donald trump. do i think, however, that time is very much on point here, this particular congress fbn:am,aoc, for all intents and purposes the spokesperson of the democratic party and remarkable that a freshman member of congress who is deaf prone everything from how internships work, to palestine, she's a wonder of gaffes all of the time. she puts people in her party in very awkward positions all of the time. jillian: the cow thing is never going to go away. wendy, you know, i want to get back to something she said at the town hall, this was msnbc town hall, alexandria ocasio-cortez, during the town hall as we heard a bit - -- of it there, stated that republicans in congress in

1940's amended the constitution that then president fdr did not get reelected. part of history lesson, though, he died in office in 1945 and second amendment passed in 1947, 2 years later, a lot of people quick to correct her but also rightly so, do you agree with that? >> yeah, i think she should be corrected, any politician whether you sit on the left or right should be corrected, constituents or the people that are watching the show ta you're on, however, this is not something that completely akin to her, we have politicians in office, one that resides at 1600 pennsylvania avenue who continues to make gaffes, so again, this is not something that where we should point finger that this one freshman congresswoman is doing -- is not doing her job effectively because she is. she still has things to learn, she will learn on the job and someone who isn't a democratic party, i do believe that we should give her time to expand wings. jillian: it's hard to learn on

the job? >> one time or two times, it would be one thing. this is the person that when she goes on camera has the words of nonsense. in the past town hall she compared 9/11 to hurricane maria, war in iraq. to have to go back and clean-up and damage control as a party is not something the democrats need going in 2020. i think president trump is right when he sort of jokingly said how great she is, she is the person that single handily hands in 2020. jillian: should freshman lawmaker alexandria ocasio-cortez be poster child of democratic party. a lot of you agree. she's cost them many jobs and money and she's proud of herself. jen, loud, obnoxious and clueless, sounds right to me. molly on instagram, yeah, they

national attention, it was nice to see one of the scandals get some attention because the local media doesn't cover them that much to be honest. jillian: do you think at some point we will look at this situation, how it's played out on how it changed chicago? >> i hope so. i hope that the federal authorities conduct thorough investigation and they follow the evidence where it leads, we've noticed a significant change in the department of justice from the obama administration to the trump administration and we believe chicago desperately needs that and so we are very hopeful that that investigation will take us in that direction. we are also hopeful that some -- some journalism, some real good investigative journalism will take place in chicago not just for this case but the decision

by the fox administration to exonerate convicted killers who we think are suspicious, to vacate convictions against gang members and her general policies that go soft on crime. rob: right. >> so we are hoping for all of that to be honest with you. rob: let's listen to her side of the story and kim fox claiming here, claims that have exonerated him are wrong, he has not been exonerated, he has not been found innocent, likelihood of securing conviction was not certain and that, of course, is from kim fox, my question to you is, do you think she's too soft to be a da in cook county and chicago has a lot of real problems? >> yes, we do. that's a ridiculous statement, this was a very good case brought to her by some of the best investigators in the country.

it was a very thorough investigation. i don't know why prosecutors are saying, well, we don't think we are going to win this, we are just going to toss it when it's such a good case. i mean, you know -- rob: do you not buy that? do you think something else happened here? you're asking for an investigation. >> we -- we -- you know, in chicago you never know what's really happening behind the scenes, but our antennas are up and there seems to be -- there seems to be, you know, why she would go to such length to drop this case. i think that needs to be -- hopefully something that will come out in federal investigation or investigation by good journalists, you know. before i was a cop, i was a writer and i've been writer investigating cases in chicago for a long time, i have a couple of books out, we really need good investigative reporters in chicago. i think that's really, really
