us is: are voters ready to suffer, i don't know, 400,000 u.s. combat deaths for the sake of the climate? what does a carbon dioxide canal look like? co two side pan, will be from tokyo again with firebombs? how would that affect the temperature? ... stupid, none of this is real, the green new deal isn't a deal, it is a wish fulfillment posing as legislation. but here's the thing, beto kept a straight face throughout that talk like he sincerely meant it. who does that? mediocre people do that. mediocre people tell implausible lies and demand that you pretend to believe them. is beto a mediocre person? we will let you decide. in 2017, beto o'rourke gave a total of less than 1% of his income -- one-third of 1%, to be precise -- to charity. keep in mind, he is a rich, very rich. here is his explanation for why he did that. >> i served in public office

donation. all of us get the gift of beto, just because he is here. every time beto speaks, it is like endowing a library in burma. or curing shingles in malawi. our battle in childhood obesity in appalachia, or sending mosquito nets to the congo. every time he talks, when he tweets, it is an act of charity, something that makes this world wiser and better smelling. he can write himself office taxes if he wanted to. if the irs would have to let him. his goodness is so clearly deductible, no lawyer would contest that. but beto doesn't do that, he doesn't shirk his duties. he will pay the extra tax because he cares that much. now that you think about it, it is almost that he will never be president baird ben shapiro host one of america's top podcast "the ben shapiro show," the

and playing the piano. i'm being sincere, actually impressive. i'm impressed by them. but they are not really policy prescriptions, they are not ideas that are going to improve america. and neither is who you sleep with relevant to running the country so far as i can tell, or any of these criteria meaningful. where's the part where we get to debate their ideas for the country? >> the problem is obviously that there is only one thought leader in the democratic party right now, and that is bernie sanders baird what you are seeing is a bunch of candidates were attempting to steer into the bernie sanders lane. there is no room in that lane, bernie sanders has occupied that entire lane. you talk about candidates, the one who keeps shouting ideas from the rooftops is on native american candidate, elizabeth warren, who keeps spouting ideas every 5 minutes. here is a new policy prescription, why is it anyone paying attention to me? the answer is because you are in bernie sanders' lane. in the moderate lane, there are no thought leaders, they are just a bunch of people with platitudes. biden is presumably be thought leader, but he doesn't have enough thoughts to be a thought leader, so who exactly is going to come along and occupy that

lane while still being able to win over the woke intersectional base of the democratic party? whoever does that has a possibility a nomination can right now, buttigieg can do that only insofar as he can speak platitudes that sound moderate, but when he has pegged down, as you noted, he is just as far left as bernie sanders. >> tucker: telling us what a great christian he is, abortion up until birth, spare me your christian talk, please. it is absurd. i'm struck by bernie could be the one guy -- i want to have a conversation about ideas, because i think it is important, and clearly we need to make changes the way the country is going, but bernie doesn't seem to be an ideas candidate when you listen to him, he almost never says anything interesting, why is that? >> his ideas are so radical, but they are consistent. so everyone has followed him out to the range. medicare for all, what you will see is every democrat pay homage to medicare for all, footnote, we don't really want medicare for all, want a gradual plan to achieve medicare for all sometime in the future.

everyone is trying to imitate bernie. bernie is the guy who is running this race. he is any position right now that trump was in a 2016, everybody in the democratic party is running i'm afraid to take him off because they hope he eventually will collapse and they will get his support, but he is writing 25 to 30% in all the polls, start nea. he can speak during that lane, win iowa, new hampshire, to welcome in california and new york care there's a reason democrats are running scared of bernie, what is puzzling to me o interested in what the journalists on twitter say, this echo chamber in the media, that they won't just go to where the mainstream of their own party is, which is the moderate area. joe biden is a terrible candidate, he is actually leading and most of the polls because he is perceived as a moderate. >> tucker: that's totally true! >> beto and buttigieg, the reason both redoing well for a moment was because they were both perceived as moderate modh all of the platitudes.

they want to be more like bernie than biden, nobody in the democratic party has the stones to run as a moderate inside the democratic party, even though it is probably the best possible way for them to win the nomination. >> tucker: i think you're absolutely right, and her diagnosis is that they are captive of social media. >> i think there are captive to social media, the intersectional, woke base afraid that they are going to be held hostage to the dictates of "the new york times" editorial board, people suggesting they are not woke enough if they don't pay homage to the latest flavor, slavery reparations or whatever it is today. >> tucker: the person who gives the finger to that mom gets the support of millions. >> i think that is right, and has a good shot in the general. but i don't think any of them -- >> tucker: get my support. >> someone would stand up and say i will take orders from you, how about some? don't even care what they are fair, i would vote for them peered so desperate for that. >> that is why they democrat were able to do that, they would win sweeping support. but i can't do that. we have been saying this for

♪ >> tucker: andrew yang is running for president of the united states. he is a democrat. we disagree on plenty of issues, but he is a serious person, smart, cares, and has a deep understanding of the problems the country faces. he may be the one person running this year who is preaching a series of reforms that might actually help the country's middle class can one proposal is worth telling you about, the salary of top government officials. currently, the president of the united states make $400,000 a year. the former president can give speeches for hundreds of thousands, and they do, they can serve on corporate boards. they can, in effect, spend the rest of their lives cashing in on the position they held as president. and they have.

bill clinton has made more than $100 million from being a former president since he left office in 2000 peered former camp cabinet members get rich on a similar scale. our leaders have a big incentive to defend the wonders of the current system because they are paid by those winners. they go to work at banks because they make bankers happy. tech regulators join up with google or facebook. the only incentive to promote public good is the kindness of their hearts. up against that, is all the accrued wealth of global capitalism. it is not really a fair fight. and not attacking anyone, just the way it works. the system itself is inherently corrupt, that's corruption, and acts inherently against your interest. yang has a solution that is not stupid: decrease the pay of our top officials by a lot, make presidents pay up to $4 million a year, pay top regulators $1 million a year. here's the catch, the president should be banned from joining corporate boards or giving

speeches for money. regulators banned from cashing in on the private side of deals they regulate fear they will make a lot more money while they do their job, but that only incentive will be promoting the good of the country, not enriching themselves afterwards. if yang's idea has a flaw, it is only that it does not go far enough then why not apply this to member of congress? hike there pay but bar them from cashing in on lobbyist or joining corporate boards the moment they leave. we should do that immediately because public service should be serviced. it is not a way to enrich yourself on life. if we did that, the rest of us could stop being cynical as we justifiably are about their behavior on capitol hill. speaking of being cynical about people's motives, bernie sanders is the most high-profile socialist in the world. but he doesn't live like one. he has become very rich, by the way, ironically, promoting a book about socialism and how great it is. sanders is a capitalist success story. we may say he embodies the

american dream, but on this channel two nights ago he said that is not the case at all. watch. >> when he wrote the book and made the money, isn't that the definition of capitalism and the american dream? >> no. [laughter] i mean, you know, what we want is a country where everyone has opportunity. i have a college degree. i'm a united states senator. a lot of people don't have a college degree. a lot of people are not united states senators. what we are fighting for is a society not where a few people can make a whole lot of money, but a society where everybody in this country has the opportunity to live in security and dignity. >> tucker: a former bernie sanders spokesperson that joins us tonight. thanks for coming on to it are not begrudging sanders writing a book, good for him. it doesn't bother him he got paid for it either. i've two concerns: why not say it is in fact the american dream? you did something people found

impressive and got rewarded, why not just say that? >> i think the american dream is a much bigger idea. arguing that we have a select few, .1%, who essentially lobbied to get away with not paying taxes are not paying their fair share of taxes. so when we talk about bernie sanders making $580,000 or so last year on the sales of his book, that's not about the american dream, everyone should have the opportunity to be able to pay their bills, to be able to pay for their rent, to not live in debt. that is, unfortunately, the american dream. just a survival at this point for the american dream is not what we had a knee '50s and '60s when millionaires and billionaires pay 70% in taxes. >> tucker: but then, okay, i get it, i got it, and some of what you are saying i agree with. we need to have a country where ordinary people with an iq of 100 and no special access can raise a family, i am numb i completely agree with that. but why is burning pocketing the money? why wouldn't he be paying 70%

tax on those book royalties voluntarily? he wrote the book as a sideline project serving as a federal official, okay? so why is he taking all that money and spending it on a second home. >> the second home was inherited by a family member who passed away, so that is not what he spent it on. >> tucker: one of his second homes. >> this is a conspiracy theory that has been perpetuated on conspiracy theory blogs. but furthermore, who voluntarily pays 70% in taxes? we need a tax policy for all so we have a more equitable society. >> tucker: wait, wait, wait a second. okay, but he is in the 1%. and so i mine, i am not attacking rich people. again, i am one. i'm also not bernie sanders. bernie sanders is out there like, oh, people who make this money -- the same amount he makes -- should pay their fair share appeared why isn't he paying his fair share, 70%, the

southern california. now prosecutors have widened the probe, investigating whether one of the daughters knew what her parents were doing. trace gallagher has been on the story since day one. >> bad news for students involved in the scandal because legal experts indicate that some of them could soon face their own charges bear the daily mail is reporting that lori loughlin's daughter, olivia jade, got a letter from the u.s. attorney's office in boston saying she was also subject of the investigation. it is unclear if loughlin's oldest daughter, isabella, also got a letter, but experts say prosecutors are making it clear they believe the kids knew about the cheating scandal and were willing participants. and it is hard to imagine the daughters didn't think something was off when they got recruited to be on the university of southern california crew team, knowing that neither one of them had ever road. they also had pictures on their application of them in rowing a tire on rowing machines. that is tough to explain away. it is unclear if olivia jade has her own lawyer. this is also an indication of the cheating probe is not wrapping up, and instead is

chicago state attorney kim foxx claims she recused yourself from the jussie smollett case, turns out that is not quite true, or maybe true at all. newly released text messages reveal that she was pressured, or she pressured robert underling, to go easy on jussie smollett. in chicago with the story unfolding. matt? >> the new text messages indicate that kim foxx continue to discuss the smollett case even after she publicly claimed she recused herself, and we now know that she did not legally recused herself from this case on march 8th, the date smollett's 16 felony accounts became public, foxx texted "a psalm recused, but when people talk of overcharging -- wash of celeb who died two cops, 16 crestmont just because we can charge something doesn't mean we

have to do. appears that barr foxx was comparing him to another celebrity. another text messages from the date the charges were dropped, in part, "told we were dropping the case, and seems satisfied with the explanation." apparently not satisfied, hours after the text, he said justice was not served. foxx has responded to some of the text she sent, writing in part "after the indictment became public i reached out to joe to discuss reviewing office policies to discuss consistency in our charging." they are reviewing kim foxx's decision, the national district attorney association promote rebuked her for not recusing her entire office on this case. tucker? >> tucker: matt finn, thanks for that report, live from chicago for us.

young black men, they play a role in this -- what it does to your education, to your earnings capability, to getting ahead in life -- and by the way, it keeps you in poverty. that rate of abortions with young black women, correlates to single-parent births, not just for young black women, but single-parent birth and poverty in this country. in medical terms, that is an epidemic. >> tucker: yeah, but i would even say on a gut level, i'm struck by it. if you love somebody, you love your own children, you want your kids to have as many kids as they want to have, because you love them and you want to see them reproduce, okay? so again, if i'm saying to you, probably shouldn't reproduce, and let me make it easy for you not to, what am i really saying to you? that is not a message of love, i don't care what anybody says. you know what i'm saying, that is not a message of love, it is very different from that. >> it is something very dangerous because you are destroying the culture in the

united states is not the problem. californians strangely enough or not the problems yet they badly straws on the plastic bags and now to see little tiny shampoo bottles that you can't have them in hotels or in any kind of rental or the resort because we are going to save the ocean. the problem with this of course is that people think they are doing something to help the problem and they are not. as you mentioned in california you can relieve yourself on the street, you can smoke marijuana to your hearts content but god help you should you have one of those bottles of listerine. that now is the problem. take a good look at california because with the on the street and with nobody being able to shampoo, it will start smelling pretty bad in the golden state. >> tucker: there is a reason they call the golden state sadly. you are totally right and i didn't connect the dots because
