"fox and friends first" continues right now. jillian: a lot of news to get to. you are watching "fox and friends first" wednesday morning. rob: thanks for getting up with us, straight to a fox news alert. one of the gunmen identified in the deadly colorado school shooting. at least one person has been killed, eight others heard. jillian: the shooting rattling the community located miles from columbine high school. jonathan hunt live with the developments. >> reporter: good morning. police have identified one of the two shooters as devon erickson. he is 18 years old.

the other younger shooter has not been identified by law enforcement. yesterday afternoon and into the evening police searched a home near the scene of the shooting. neighbors confirming that is the home of the erickson family. at one point police were seen telling away a car coated with disturbing graffiti. obviously they are coming through the social media profile of devon erickson and the other younger shooter, to see what may have driven them to bring mayhem to this school in highlands ranch. according to witnesses, one of the shooters pulled the gun from a car case before they opened fire in two separate classrooms beginning what was obviously a terrifying ordeal for students and parents alike. >> after everything that happened with columbine and all the suffering, this is happening

to us, you never think this is the reality. you want to be protected, you want their friends to be protected. >> i started hearing police radio, sounds like a kid yelling back and gunshot started in the hallway. there was a policeman yelling at the suspect, they were firing at each other. >> all of this unfolding a few miles from columbine high school with three weeks ago marks the 20th anniversary of that dreadful massacre. you might remember around the time of that anniversary hundreds of denver areas were shutdown for what police called a specific threat. nothing transpired at that time. a woman involved in that threat killing herself from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. we have tariffs visited upon another denver area school.

democrats will be on board. what do you think it would take to get support for this? >> i don't think there is any way democrats in the house would support anything the president put forward on immigration. even if the white house offered to amnesty every illegal alien in the country and give them a lifetime supply of lollipops the democrats would not agree to the kinds of changes in this legislation. i sink this is more an attempt to set out an agenda the white house supports rather than actual legislation intended to go anywhere. rob: let's look at the republicans that were there, you see the names, what this wants to do is take the system away from allowing people to bring in their family, the lottery system we had and people based on what they can do in this country.

a merit-based system is what the president wants and he hopes to get the attention of people who are working because the point is you bring in low-wage low skilled workers it drags the price of labor down down down. doesn't make much money. >> no question about that and harder for some people to get hired if they are marginal people like ex-cons or recovering addicts. what the white house is trying to do is limit family immigration but then move most of those immigration numbers to skills-based where they take into account your college degrees and where this fall short is it doesn't reduce the level of immigration but leaves it at $1 million a year we have

now and it is imperative that there be some moderation, some modest reductions in the level of immigration. the president calls for that. during the campaign, but says the unemployment rate is so low he has changed his mind. the thing is when the unemployment rate is low that is when you don't want to import immigrants because keeping the labor market tight means employers are forced to look to hiring people they ordinarily don't want to higher. ex-cons, recovering addicts, disabled, single moms who need flexible schedules, teenagers, maybe not very good workers, all those people are hurt when immigration is high. jillian: family unit apprehensions at the southwest border in fiscal year 2019. look at that number, 189,584. you have story federal prosecutor sold the tucson grand jury that a guatemala man allegedly paid a family the equivalent of $130 to their 8-year-old son, children used as

ponds. more often than we should be talking about. what do you make of that? >> most people bringing kids across the border are bringing those kids but there is increasingly this phenomenon of renting kids or even recycling kids. they get into a country, sent back to central america and brought with a different adult and the reason this happens is because of loopholes in our law. we have a requirement that if a child, a minor, cannot be held in immigration detention more than 20 days and we don't split families because of all the political outrage that caused last year, if you bring a kid with you you are guaranteed to be released into the us in the more than three weeks. that is a powerful incentive to bring kids, your kids, somebody else's kids, whatever, and until that loophole is plugged we will
