trouble. he ends up in jail in a maximum security prison. thanks to the president's intervention, he is able while the case is assembled against him and for him, he is allowed to go into a hospital where his family would be see him, not overrun by sex offenders where he was kept in san diego. he was moved off a marine base, into a hospital. eddie gallagher is trying to marshall his defense. he doesn't have the internet. he has a computer. he can walk around, assemble meet with his lawyer. that is good. what isn't good we found out prosecutors were doing to eddie gallagher's defense team. ainsley: he says the prosecutors were spying on the defense team, that is what they say, the attorney's say. steve: the allegation is that the prosecutors installed tracking software in email sent to the defense lawyers and a reporter to find out who was leaking to the reporter. the defense seem says look, we're pretty sure this is coming from the military because we are

got to where i am today as math that tish shun. steve: how did you get to where you are today? >> my first influence was my mother. she thought i was good at math and jumped on it. she saw the talent and -- steve: how did she make every opportunity to you? >> buy me workbooks. we would play games like monopoly. it seems like a fame but it is very quantitative. ainsley: i saw you walk in, congratulate you on doctorate at mit, working on your thesis, writing a book or your football career. i think it is wonderful to hear stories like yours. your mother was the first to go to college. your family started all this. it started when you were a boy. you were taking calculus courses when you were 13 years old. what advice do you have for parents that want their kids

toing math -- mathematicians. >> help them. make sure you're a resource. have every resource for them. brian: you say teachers can learn from football coaches? >> in the sense, football coaches tell their best players to dream big. they can play college football. they can play pro football. i would love math teachers telling their strongest student, you can be a mathematician or physicist or next einstein. you can push them. steve: when you playing with the ravens, your teammates knew you were a math whiz, did they have a nickname for if you. >> a couple of people called me the professor. ainsley: how did you get into football? >> my father played football at university of alberta.

i would see photos of him playing it is tough to do things at a high level. whatever those two things may be. sadly it is no secret. just hard work. penn state did a great job of trying to support the student athletes but at the end of the day you have to make sacrifices, realize what is important. ainsley: do you worry, there is all the controversy should the kids play football because of brain injuries. you clearly need your brain. your brain is so important to all of us, so important to you, getting your doctorate? >> yeah, i'm happy to say that i'm retired. i feel healthy. i had a great career playing doing football, playing in the nfl. ainsley: were you ever worried about it? >> no. i can say one thing i was happy about, i didn't play tackle football until high school. steve: that is interesting. final exit question, now that you get your phd from mit,
