spot in a matter of minutes. this is the west side heliport and the hudson river. to the right of that, you can see the huge avenue that is northbound. that is 12th street. i mean, 12th avenue. it's on the edge of the city. still have rescue operations. bryan llenas is on scene. bryan? >> shep, representative for the blade charter company, which operates private chartered helicopters said that one of their helicopters is the one that went down. they say their pilot is safe and it had an emergency landing earlier this afternoon and it's now on floats. we've seen i have yes of this. the emergency flotation system appears to have gone off. you can see the yellow floatties there. the flotation devices are on many commercial aircraft. we now there's two nonlife threatening injuries when the helicopter went down at 2:26 p.m.

the pilot and a person standing by, a helicopter worker that was hit with flying debris. these are nonlife threatening injuries. bringing you back to the helicopter pad, this heliport is the longest continually running heliport in manhattan since 1981. there's ten different pads. from what we understand, this helicopter was attempting to land and fell short for whatever reason. that's when it went down and a passer by boat came by and assists the pilot that is safe on land and suffering from nonlife threatening injuries. last year, we had the helicopter go down in the east river on a nice day. five passengers that died and strapped on the to a harnett. that incident, it started on the

upper east side. the helicopter floated all the way down to manhattan. this helicopter went down in front of the helipad, which was helpful. the fdny has tied it to the dock here. we're waiting for more details. we know it was a private helicopter. shep? >> shepard: i mentioned the rescue. more details on that now. this is incredible. the captain was carrying passengers between west 39th street in manhattan. that's where you would go on a ferry to go to new jersey. they were taking this over to hoboken new jersey. he saw the chopper go down. it was an hour and -- two hours and ten minutes ago. this is that particular new york waterway ferry crew, captain, second rescue in ten years.

he was -- this same company was part of the miracle on the hudson rescue. they rescued almost 300 point from the waters of the new york harbor when flight 1549 went into the river there. so they rescued more than 300 people. members of a ferry crew, back and forth, back and forth all day long between manhattan and new jersey. bryan has confirmed this is a blade helicopter. you heard of uber and lyft. that's like ride sharing services. blade is the uber of helicopters. and they run scheduled services to new york airports. so we have kennedy, la guardia, newark liberty airport. airports in white plains. lots of airports. bad traffic. it can take hours to get to some of them. so they run these regular shuttles to them. they run shuttles to the

hamptons. they have a seaplane operation. you order this over an app just like uber. so if you want to charter one or if you want to get in a ride share just like uber pool or a regular uber, you just plug it in to your app and they'll pick you up, whisk you away. it is a service that ubiquitous. so choppers are everywhere these days. this, when there's an incident like this, choppers are grounded. so i don't know this for a fact, but with history as my guide, it is likely that blade's operations are down. so what amounts to the uber for the skies, the fancy people in new york city is grounded at the moment. thankfully not a single person hurt. very minor injuries to someone that is working there on the helipad. every one of the circles is a

different helipad. there's five to the north end and five to the south end. so ten helicopters at once. the pilot, of course, that went into the water but quickly rescued but the new york waterway ferry crew. it's bad the chopper went down and bad that service is halted for the moment but great that nobody was hurt. fox urgent now. thousands of palestinians have been protesting in the gaza for naqba day. it marks when israel became a state and hundreds of thousands of palestinians were forced to get out. dozens hurt in these activities. trey yingst reporting live. trey? >> shep, over 10,000 palestinians gathered along the border to mark the day. the palestinian health ministry says 60 people were injured.

some demonstrators through ieds and rocks as soldiers responded with tear gas. hamas, the group that controls the strip, calls the israeli response an act of aggression. earlier this month, 700 rockets were fired from israel to gaza killing four. israel killed more than two dozen palestinians with air strikes. iranian backed groups in gaza could pose a threat to israel as the cease fire is tested each day. >> iranian backed factions inside the gaza strip have a number of tools to disrupt cease fire understandings. one of them balloons trying to destroying a cultural communities long the border. you can see this field destroyed by one group of balloons. >> hamas and islamic jihad have said they receive funding and military support from the iranian regime.

pilot error. the question now becomes, what was the cause? the weather doesn't seem nefarious. we don't know of any mechanical problems. we're waiting for witness testimony to give us feedback on what they saw. as investigators go forward, witness testimony seems to be imperative to kind of figuring out exactly what was happening in the final seconds that the helicopter was actually airborne. so that will be critical. of course, the teams actually in the water right now giving us a better idea, shep, of what they are looking for. the news conference will open our eyes as to exactly what the authorities are now kind of angling their investigation wards. shep? >> shepard: trace, thanks. the helicopter we've been talking about is being suspended. you can see it here. it's sort of tied to the side. the workers in these boats have tied it alongside of the pier.

that is the helicopter pads over there. there's ten of them. there's five helicopter pads on the north side of 30th street and five helicopter pads to the south side of 30th street. you can see how close they are. this is the circle. inside the circle is where the chopper lands. here's the water's edge. you can see the people in between. it's not far. it's always right on the water. when you take off, elevate just a little bit and go over the hudson river. if you were going to long island, you come down, head out in that direction. just a gorgeous sight from here. here you go. that is to the north end. so this would be the furtherest north helipad where this happened. back down over here is a series of trailers that serve as what amounts to a terminal. so you pull up in a small parking lot, in the middle of this, off the avenue there. a long running track
