9:00 am
in 33 1/2 hours. it all started 92 years ago today. >> perfect newsroom vault for our resident pilot, jon scott. >> love that story. >> good stuff. all right. thanks for joining us. see you tomorrow morning. "outnumbered" starts now. >> new warnings about the growing migrant crisis at the bourn border. acting homeland security secretary kevin mclenan says the system is full and pushes back reports acted the trump administration's strategy to deal with the overflow migrants. this is "outnumbered." we have host of kennedy, kennedy and joining us on the couch, chris wilson. republican strategist and former pollster for the ted cruz campaign. he is outnumbered and looking snazzy. >> those are everything.
9:01 am
>> all the favorites. >> yeah. >> all right. let's get to it. acting defense chief says there's no plans to start sending migrants to florida amid backlash from local officials there. he also says the trump administration is not moving migrants to sanctuary cities. these as he's blasting congress for their inaction in the face of the border crisis. watch. >> the flows are unprecedented and creating challenges for professionals trying to manage it. we're talking about a situation where children are at risk, being smuggled, in the hands of the most violent criminal organizations in this hemisph e hemisphere. >> 2020 candidate democratic senator kirsten gillibrand ripping the president's policies at the border. >> president trump's immigration
9:02 am
policy is inhumane, ineffective and wrong. i cannot tell you how infuriating it is for our president to still be separating children from their parents at our border. i think president trump, what he's done is divisive and harmful to our national security. >> chris, what drives me crazy is those that sit there and criticize what everybody else is doing and offer no remedy themselves. there's room for a lot of fixes from all different sides. it's a disaster. >> that's the washington way, to offer criticism and no solutions. what frustrates me, somebody that does a lot of work in texas, kirsten gillibrand has had plenty of chances to tour the border. she refuses to do so. so for her to sit in new york and press judgment on those that live and work and represent border states and who are working very close to the president to try to get the problems fixed is beyond the
9:03 am
height of hypocrisy. she is completely out of touch to what is going on with the border. some estimates have one in three children are being brought in that are by drug traffickers to try to make their way across, sent back and used again. that's where the tragedy is here. the fact is, as washington continues to drag its feet -- it's a clear case of politics over policy. >> it does, kennedy, seem like it's about politicians. when you look at all of the reporting from "the new york times" on, they've got ten the story right. they're telling people this is a different group of people that is coming. it's a humanitarian crisis, no matter how you look at it. everybody agrees something has to be done except for the politicians. >> for somebody that wants to be president, and kirsten gillibrand she she doesn't have 1% in the polls because of a gender bias. and it's an against bias. you're not doing anything. to sit around and say this is awful. isn't it awful?
9:04 am
yeah, it is. so what is your vision? what is your immigration philosophy? what kind of people do you think we should have here? second of all, when there's a problem what are you going to do about it? she's in congress. she's a senator. she could work with some of her fellow republicans and democrat senators and some people running for president and drum up some great ideas in order to fix this and get children out of harm's way. >> those are the folks in congress are the only ones that have the power to do something right now. >> and there's a plan on the table. the president released his immigration plan, which was panned by both sides of the aisle. >> even mitch mcconnell said it's a nonstarter. i look forward to reading it later. bye, guys. there's specific policies coming out of the democratic hopefuls. julian castro has a plan.
9:05 am
and i understand kirsten gillibrand and abolishing ice. there's many that don't agree with republican orthodoxy about how to address this crisis. jeh johnson has done everyone a great service, especially democrats saying it's official, this is a crisis and we have to talk about it in that language. i hope there's a gang of six bill, gang of eight where we can get somewhere on this. this asylum system is ground zero for fixing this. >> can i step in? were you done? >> i am. >> what the representative told me, don't buy them lock, star and barrel on the democrat side just because he doesn't fulfill believing everything what the republicans are putting forth. he has his own ideas. they don't mirror -- >> i'm not arguing that at all. making an argument about people that represent border states when you have a republican outspoken about his aversion to
9:06 am
the way republicans are addressing his. >> his aversion is to not getting anything done. >> but he doesn't think a wall -- >> nothing. i want to get this in. what actually forces the hand? that's where i'm curious. you've had upwards of 338% increase. i'm not going to call them migrant families anymore because of the details that you spit out. these are adults traveling with children. then we have to do the reconnaissance and vetting to see what the situations are look. most of them are unacceptable. you have people sleeping under overpasses and the journalism that we've seen with "the new york times," the "washington post" showing the cases. extreme temperatures are about to be ushered in. and it's hot along the border like in arizona, my home state. so anybody on the couch, what constitutes a tipping point? we've been at a crisis.
9:07 am
we're in the middle of an emergency. even democrats are seeing this. what is the tipping point? what does it take to get everybody to say like we do every day, let's get this done. let's do better than this. >> we've seen the head of border patrol saying what she was worried about that this idea that they lose control of the border. that's what's next. that they lose control. >> i had second in command of the border patrol council last week, the quote was, breitbart had the headline, we have lost control. >> i don't know why somebody doesn't propose a summit to sit down and wring your ideas. >> we do a summit every day. >> you're right. that's what has to happen. you talk about some of the issues, including daca and asylum and those two things have to -- you won't get comprehensive immigration reform. you have to do something. democrats have to stop worrying about giving the president a win on this. it's interesting. you ask -- when will it be a
9:08 am
tipping point? for a lot of point, there's the public issue and the silent issue. the public one especially for these mayors of sanctuary cities, we need to help as many people as possible. when you have a 300% increase of people over the border, there's people when they vote silently say, then it's a nimbi issue. maybe not in my city. that's when it tends to benefit the president. >> that is everything in our politics right now. that's what we learned when president trump first took office. a lot of people that lived publicly and voted silently. oh, by the way, we live in america. that's okay. that's how it is supposed to be but doesn't help us solve this issue if everybody doesn't bring to bear -- >> i tell you, the real problem for the democrats on this, they have the far left side of the party is an extreme no borders, abolish ice. that's not where you are, but that's where a lot of democrats are. >> that's not true. >> it is.
9:09 am
that's what beto o'rourke is. tear down the wall. we don't need the border. abolish ice. the democrats are going to get clean up on this. >> i agree with you. that's why it's not the platform that democrats are running on. you look at the people leading in the polls, they're not calling for abolishing ice. there were a couple of lone voices that said the next step is abolishing ice -- >> kirsten gillibrand has said -- >> that's why i called it out. i don't think it has legs. but you're right. people saying the quiet part out loud, a new article saying thousands more kids were separated from their parents. >> you read that. >> i did. i read everything, harris. >> everybody agrees that it's a problem on both sides of the aisle. one party would seem, democrats want one side without a heart and the other side -- democrats don't have any ideas. >> that's not true.
9:10 am
>> they're equal part untrue. >> there is something to be said for the argument about abolishing ice. but you have to have an alternative. >> of course. >> that's what they're missing. that is a very reactionary statement from the progressives. what is the alternative? >> brings forth your ideas. >> they need a summit, people that can make a difference, those in congress. do something, guys. public, it's very easy to have out there. it doesn't look good. i would say that for this area, for the democrats to win it back, the biggest problem they have is the green new deal. that is a recipe for disaster for this very area where they say joe biden is ahead of president trump. they want to get talking points organized on that. >> what is interesting about that, jessica, just about every democrat that i've talked with says but that part of the party doesn't represent the whole party. nobody is buying into that. i see kennedy with the head nod. but they're talking about it, democrats. they're coming up with ideas, nancy pelosi. maybe not that one but maybe there's other ideas on the table. >> having a climate change agenda that is responsible and addresses monday's -- >> you think man is responsible? >> i'm not a supporter of the green new deal. i want to address the problems
