on duty as powerlines, trees scattered on the roadways. janice dean joins us live with more on the multiple tornadoes from overnight and where the severe weather threat is headed. >> reporter: this is an ongoing situation for the last several days. the same areas getting hit hard by severe storms, prayers going out to parts of missouri getting hit with several tornadoes and you can see the radar bubbles up overnight with strong severe thunderstorms especially for jefferson, missouri, outside of joplin, missouri. this will be an ongoing situation. we don't see the scope of the damage until after the weekend because we will see potential for not only severe storms but letting rainfall. parts of the missouri river valley will come over there banks with some of the rainfall over the next several days,

storm reports the last 72 hours for severe weather outbreak stretching from texas to oklahoma, missouri towards illinois and indiana. we have tornado watch is in effect, still a volatile situation over the same areas that have gotten hit hard overnight. parts of missouri in indiana, tornado watches meaning conditions are favorable for tornadoes. if there is a warning it means we see a tornado on doppler radar, some of these tornadoes you can't spot them because it is dark outside. a lot of people without power and folks are not prepared for severe weather. today stretching across texas towards oklahoma, missouri, illinois and the mid-atlantic and northeast we need to have a heads up for severe storms, maybe not a tornado outbreak, large hail, damaging wind and flooding rainfall. this afternoon and tonight, i
