"fox & friends" starts right now. ♪ ainsley: straight to a fox news alert right now first responders are going door-to-door after that violent tornadoes tears through severson city, missouri overnight. steve: local officials in the state capital are asking the national guard for help as the head of the county ems says they are in disaster mode. every firefighter in the city of jefferson city are on duty as people are trapped inside their homes and calling 911 asking for help. brian: already three people dead after a twister ripped through karl junction, missouri. the storm happening on eighth anniversary of devastating tornadoes in nearby joplin that killed 161 people. and in oklahoma, a rising

river rips a home off its foundation and right into the water. evacuations underway. ainsley: our senior meteorologist janice dean is in the weather center and she is tracking these dangerous storms. good morning, janice. janice: good morning. unfortunately the damage we won't be able to assess until rescue crews can get in there this has been an ongoing situation across portions of texas, oklahoma, missouri, up towards illinois now. 29 reports of tornadoes across the heartland and over 100,000 people without power right now. you are looking at obviously people in the dark in parts of missouri the lightning lit up a tornadoes in that video overnight and the problem is the tornadoes came when people were sleeping and that's why we tell people to have your noaa whether radios on. at least you will have a way of knowing if there is a tornadoes in your area i two

dozen reports of tornadoes over the last several days. we have been warning folks we were in to a tornado outbreak. that's exactly what's happening right now. the threat continues for 40 million people stretching from texas, missouri, up towards the ohio river valley and in to the northeast. pennsylvania, you are on alert for not hail, damaging winds but we could also see tornadoes moving into heavily populated areas. it's one thing to see tornado video from areas that don't have a big population but because areas like everson city have been hit hard, that effects a tremendous amount of people and the video coming out of there is just catastrophic unfortunately. the other big story to this is we are going to have heavy rain over the next couple of days. parts of missouri river coming over their banks. that's anticipated over the next couple of days. so flash flood watches and warnings are posted for all of these areas that have

seen tremendous amounts of water over the last couple of weeks. of course all of this is going to go down towards. mississippi river valley. a flooding disaster over some of thes regions the next couple days. not only the flooding the last few weeks but 23450u9d memorial day weekend. kansas, in towards the ohio river valley dealing with flooding. incredible video of a home completely being immersed in water and look at this from logan county, oklahoma. watch this video as the storm and the rain fall continues to just reek havoc on all of these homes. it is just devastating to watch, unfortunately. and we are going to be seeing more scenes like this over the next couple of days. brian: thanks, janice, oklahoma and now missouri. unbelievable cup perform days. ainsley: work so hard to build up your life one fell

swoop a storm rushes in. you grew up in this area. steve: i was in jefferson city on election day. it is a beautiful town but apparent lay tornadoes went in 11:30 last night local time went through the middle of town. as the sun comes up we are asking a reporter to bring us live images. we will bring that to you as soon as we can in the meantime as you can see it's a rainy day here on the west side of manhattan. we are parked in the hudson river on the uss new york. all part of our annual fleet week celebration this year brought to us by our friends at usaa. ainsley: fleet week may 22nd through the 28th. almost every year since 1984 it has occurred here in new york. 2600 sailors, marines, and coast guardsmen that are participating this year. steve: right. they are part of our studio audience today. thank you. brian: navy up and early 15 ships in the area to make fleet week and so far it's been great. back on the uss new york last where we were in 2011. the ship was commissioned in

that was 9:00. she comes up and stands up in front of the microphone and says the president is involved that cover-up knowing she is about to walk over to the white house and sit down with the president and meet face-to-face with him. he wasn't happy with her comments. brian: he wasn't. so he knew they were going to meet in two hours and talk about spending $2 trillion. a chance at bipartisan. and the democratic house actually getting something done since they took power in 2018 after their election. they have gotten nothing done. all they have done is investigate. and the president has pushed back on all of that so, w457sd when they went in? the president didn't ask for input. he went in there and says you make a choice. you either legislate or investigate. it seems as though they are choosing investigate. ainsley: i wanted to talk about frurkt. i'm really good at that we will play that in a minute. steve: he was so mad that she said cover-up. he went out and tweeted democrats is getting zero done. all they want to do is put

the mueller report behind them which he says exonerates him and start all over. no do-overs. ainsley: he stood there with nancy pelosi and chuck schumer three minutes. said very calm. they are saying something else. then he walks out to the rose garden and has a press conference. here is what he said. >> instead of walking in happily to a meeting, i walk in to look at people that have just said that i was doing a cover-up. i don't do cover-ups. you can go down the investigation fact and you can go down the investment track or the track of let's get things done for the american people. i walked into the room and i told senator schumer and speaker pelosi i you want to do infrastructure, but, you know what? you can't do it under these circumstances. so get these firestone phony

investigations over with. brian: he said it multiple times, we're not going to impeach the president. the country doesn't want that even though there are radicals in her party and others who want to investigate from jerry nadler to adam schiff. they are on the precipice of saying impeach. omar and others and maxine waters wakes up in the morning and screams it out. nancy pelosi supposed to be so strong is capitulating. only way to rationalize what she is doing. as the day moved on, she is talking about a possible impeachable offense. steve: well, there were stories in the morning that congressional white house sources were saying look this meeting on infrastructure is not going to go well because the white house and congress are a trillion dollars apart. the white house is going to say okay you want so many thrill we will give you 1 trillion less than you want. they were looking for some sort of way to off ramp the

nancy pelosi calls it a cover-up. he said that was enough. that weighs why he blew up the meeting. later on she doubled down. not only it was a cover-up she used that i word again. >> this president is obstructing justice and he is engaged in a cover-up. and that could be an impeachable offense. [applause] ignoring the subpoenas of congress was article 3 of the nixon impeachments. ainsley: it's so interesting because when she was talking about the border, she said it's not a crisis. then she later said i never secretary of defense it wasn't a drivers. then she said impeachment. i don't think it's a good idea if w we impeach. then she comes out out saying this is impeachable offense. whoever convinced her maybe it was aoc and all of her thoughts because we know she wants to impeach and beto o'rourke wants to impeach. so many other democrats. she came out and doubled down. steve: she never did say what the cover-up was.

ainsley: many people think the democrats are the ones covering this up. brian: president is pushing back everywhere saying don mcgahn you are not testifying. hope hicks you can stay where you are. when it comes to the taxes not giving. in deutsche bank suing to not give over records. that's what we're looking at the president is covering something up when the president gave up two and a half years of his presidency, millions of documents, $30 million of taxpayer money and 434 pages hardly a cover-up. lindsey graham to his credit said give robert mueller room to work says this is out of control. listen. >> you can say this any way you would like but here's the bottom line. after two years of a political rectal exam, nobody has been looked at more than trump. they found nothing. but the answer for the democrats is trump's got to go. they will not beat him at the ballot box if they try to impeach him they are going tone sure his re-election. i want the american people know that bob mueller did his job. he looked at trump every way

you could look at trump and he found nothing. this is just political revenge. it's going to blow up in their face and i can't wait until 2020. steve: and, see, that's what the next stop is. because they have made a pretty effectively clear yesterday there is not going to be any working together until these investigations are over. the political game plan is for the investigations to drag right up to the election. they are not going to try to impeach him at this stage. they just want to sully his reputation. make him seem illegitimate that's his impression that he has made very clear right through the election. people will have a choice. if you want the republicans to get something done, elect more republicans the white house would say. meanwhile the democrats are saying if you want this guy in charge have you got to vote for the other side. ainsley: lindsey graham is still urging the president to work with democrats. steve: right. ainsley: to work with congress to try to get some things then even infrastructure.

rob: we are pack with a fox news alert. flash of lightning showing the tornadoes hit in missouri last night. unbelievable. 9 people hospitalized after that twister tore through jefferson city the capital city of missouri. a very populated area. the damage at this point we know is so bad that people are being told to stay home from work. first responders going door-to-door trying to make sure the damage isn't trapping people inside of their homes. this is a very scary storm. senior meteorologist janice dean is going to join us more with more on the severe

weather. when they come through at night like this, janice, especially in a very populated area. twisters don't usually hit a populated area like that. janice: they can. rob: they can. janice: that's when it becomes a big news story. we have been warning of a severe weather outbreak for several days now and we have seen incredible footage of tornadoes in the distance that haven't affected heavily populated areas. this area no strirng tornadoes when you talk about joplin, missouri, the anniversary yesterday from that deadly tornadoes. this is tornadoes alley. these are the areas we typically see severe weather. but when you get into a heavily populated area like jefferson county, that's where it impacts the most, the most people. and added on top of that, it happened at night when people are sleeping. and that's why we always tell noaa weather ray roo on could save your life. people without power. we have had over two dozen reports of tornadoes and it

just takes one. it just takes one moving through a heavily populated neighborhood to make it an epic event unfortunately. that's what's happening. we won't see the power of the storm and who it affected for the next couple of days. rescue crews have to get in there. but this is within the last 72 hours. so from texas through oklahoma, not only the reports of tornadoes but we're going to have flooding impacts in these areas over the next several days that are going to last throughout the next several weeks. missouri river valley. parts of the missouri river valley crest and overtop some of the levees. this is a dire situation for our friends nut midwest and, of course, prayers are needed. firefighters are out there. we do have the threat for severe weather today from texas to the ohio river valley and then through more populated areas in the northeast and mid-atlantic. so we will continue to bring you the very latest. certainly that tornado that moved toward jefferson county we are still going to be looking at damage over

pulling from all the intelligence sources in our government assessed the situation to we thought it might be descalating in fact iran is actually doing some actions that are requiring him to say i need some type of response. he has made that request of the pentagon. it gets reviewed there by the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff in consultation with the acting secretary and the president and then they will make a decision to put a mix of forces unto that 5,000 into the middle east to hopefully send a signal to iran enough is enough. you have been destabilizing this region for decades. you have been killing americans for decades. we will harden that line in the sand and say no more. >> you say it's time to hold them adon'table. if you look back at the number of americans killed by weapons that are in other people in our enemy's hands can you trace it back to iran. how many americans? >> just what's been declassified there was a department of defense study released by the state department that said 608 americans were killed by

iranian explosive form projectiles, small arms, other ied ds built in iraq and afghanistan. clearly we can trace it back. we can trace it back further. station chief and colonel higgins killed by hezbollah. time to say no more. brian: the president has put economic pressure and show of force in the region. there is a sense that the iran is hoping just to wait out this president. we will get a new president and he will be easy to deal with. we will go back in the iranian nuclear deal. we'll forget these four years ever happened. what's your message? >> circumstances aren't going to change iranian behavior is not changing. still targeting americans. reminisce sent of the tanker wars in the '80s, we have had four tanker ships hit in the strait of hormuz. the flood of the world's oil goes through that region. iran threatens to close off the strait of hormuz and

choke off that supply it threatens everyone not only the united states and allies. chinese as well. they are very depend denting on that oil coming from the middle east. we have to keep it open. ainsley: is iran acting just under the threshold so we don't react. >> they have been. we have tolerated it for years. get a president line in the stand and say no. brian: how is it when senator dianne feinstein walks around and has dinner with zarif their foreign minister. john kerry is giving words behind out scenes don't worry about this president he is not here for long. is he either going to be impeached or elected out. how bad is that for our foreign policy. >> bad foreign policy i also note american people are intuitive and smart enough to understand when these democrats do stuff like that they are in fact undermining the ability of this president to keep our nation safe. they should not be undermining him. if they have a problem with it. why not work within our lines of communication within the u.s. government with the state department

and others? why not hold hearings to make sure they understand what the process is. to be doing that independently is ♪ what we need to have done. ainsley: if they agree with central command to send our troops over what else would be sent and what would that look like. >> the central command commander would take a look what are the threats he is having to look at right now. based on those threats he puts in a mix of forces and capability whether that is just ground troops. whether that's patriot missile batteries and even out number of ships we have deployed to the region say with tomahawk missiles to respond. called a working order. they inform all those people stand by get ready to deploy. consultation with the secretary and the president. you get execute order and forces deploy. brian: commander, real quick you see these men and women who serve behind us up early for us. what are they capable of. >> one of the greatest things about the uss new york and young sailors and

retired infantry man and republican from new york assemblyman care ren and former lieutenant greg. welcome to all of you. >> thank you for having us. steve: cathy, what is going to happen going forward now that the president has signed this to make your life better? >> i think it's going to be transformative. this is truly a game changer. think about if i have to drive 30 minutes to get to my general practitioner, i will probably start considering looking for a new practitioner. steve: under the new system if it's nor man 30 minutes. >> now military personnel have the opportunity to go to private healthcare versus before it was 40 miles. 40 miles can translate into two hours or an hour depending where you live. this is a game changer. think about it long wait lines resolve. those issues that you go in relatively minor issues that have a tendency that we saw in the media several weeks. several years ago ballooning

into life threatening issues has to resolve. steve: have you world class health here. i'm from kansas the middle of nowhere in some instances. more than 30 miles from stuff. this has really impacted a lot of people in the past. and now this is on off ramp to this problem. >> it's great idea and we often have a problem veterans have to get to their appointments at the v.a. and need rides. if you are asking somebody can you volunteer and drive 40 miles that might not be doable. now that we have shrunk the distance sarnsd the v.a. that they can go, you are going to have that opportunity to get veterans to their appointments. if you make those appointments you will stay healthier long-term. steve: why has this taken so long? it seems like a no-brainer. >> from the perspective of now being in private industry and looking around, it's just a recognition that using public-private partnerships allows to you improve the overall quality of care as well as, you know, potentially reduce

costs increase convene yensz. it's just a recognition. it feels like the time is right to do these things. and i think it feels across the political spectrum that there is a consensus here that we have to do something to improve the overall delivery mechanism. that's why i think we are at this point and it's great news. >> well, let's see what happens. also, you know, the way the military is set up, from the time you go in. the plan is if you are with us forever, you are either going to wind up being an admiral or wind up being a general rather than giving people the opportunity to get into things that they really like to. >> right. steve: i know militaries around the world have that kind of a set up, cathy. should the united states be more like that. >> yes. i'm so glad the conversation is beginning to be had now. this strategy had promote up or out there. are pros. it avoids stagnation. allows for new blood and new idea and new perspectives to

come into these positions but the con to that is you may have some really good people doing really good jobs who want to stay in that area. and to your point we should look to our british brothers and sisters as some of the things that they do. steve: they can specialize. >> like they make certain statuses professional aviators. we pay up to a million dollars just to train them. and if they don't want to leave, we should be able to leverage that, that high kohl's of capital to invest in them. steve: kieren when you started your military service did you think i'm going to wind up being a general and admiral. >> i was certainly not thinking that no. it didn't happen. steve: it didn't happen. things happen along the way. perhaps u.s. military should make that adjustment so that people can branch out into some things rather than management? >> that is a great innovation. if a guy is a great helicopter mechanic. great platoon sergeant why make him move all over the country and world and get his ticket punched doing the things he doesn't want to do

age 17 and grown man at age 20. and the three years in between he spent aboard a ship in mediterranean. on his way to his first assignment brian knows this because we talked about it on the radio a few years ago. on his way to the first assignment which was a submarine in the north atlantic he slipped and fell going into the submarine and broke his ankle. spent the next two months in a hospital in rhode island. submarine never returned. so that little broken ankle caused our friendship and our working together. steve: that's why you are here. he was married to my mother 70 years and went to heaven last summer. ainsley: he was probably so upset about that. i love stories like that. unfortunately all the other men never came home. >> right. ainsley: his life was spared and we got you. >> yes and my brothers and my mother. steve: you have a real appreciation for the men and women who wear the uniform. >> i do. i do. especially the navy. my west point buddies are

interests some of our great airmen sailors and marines serving in the region or diplomats serving in iraq or elsewhere. the exact force posture the president is looking at every day. evaluating the risks and making sure we have it right. this is an important mission. 40 years of terror come out of the republic of iran and president trump is determined to change the course of that regime. steve: there are stories in the country of iran out sanctions have taken such a toll the people are desperate. there is a lot going on and unrest in the country. ultimately the sanctions are working. the question is what do they do next? >> yeah. the sanctions have certainly had their intended threat. foment terror. hezbollah soldiers no longer being paid or being paid a fraction of what they were being paid before. their ability to expand their terror network has been reduced. the previous administration took a different path. they underwrote that government. giving them hundreds of billions of dollars and the

ability to put the terror team in place that we are seeing today. the very terror threat that we are facing. president trump has taken a very different course of action. we are determined to stop not only their nuclear program and from them ever getting a nuclear weapon but prevent them from building up their missile program and conducting terror campaigns. ainsley: the sanctions are working and they are retaliating as a result? >> yeah. i think that's true. it's a little more complicated than that you have to remember they killed 600 american soldiers long before. ainsley: unclassified that we know about. >> just before the pressure campaign. they blew up an embassy. there is a long history of iranian terror that longpré dates our sanctions efforts. so, this isn't just about our sanctions. this is about the nature of this theocratic regime in tehran. we're determined to push back. brian: mr. secretary, there is no about it. dianne feinstein having meetings with the foreign minister zarif, having dinner and bragging to people she has his cell

and a great officer, there is something deeply troubling. ainsley: openly still calls for extremist violence. how is that good behavior? >> you would have to ask the judge who is disconnected from good behavior in the most fundamental way. i cannot account how you could look at someone like this fellow and his continued views on the world. ainsley: the family is so upset. >> properly so. brian: mrs. spann is going to be on with shannon bream tonight. you had a chance to be one-on-one with vladimir putin. and we had your predecessor rex tillerson walking the halls testifying over the weekend saying that the president of the united states was really out prepared by vladimir putin when they met a couple of years ago to talk about for two and a half hours. what was that meeting with vladimir putin like? were you able to get any points across, for example, what they are doing in venezuela that would change their behavior? >> i think we had a constructive meeting. look, there are places we will never see eye to eye.

we have different views. it's not a democracy. our two governments have very different. my mission set was to find places where we can have common understanding there are a handful. i worked on counter-terrorism with my counterparts there i think we saved both american and russian lives. there are places in syria and afghanistan where we have a common set of interests in taking down terror threats. but i was very clear about american interest n. and president is as committed as anyone to protecting those trs against the russians. ains. brian: did it change behavior in venezuela. >> we will see. only time will tell. steve: we are sitting on the uss new york people joining us now on the hudson river. it has been instrumental in your life. 40 miles north of where we are sitting is west point. you were a cadet. finished top of your class. tell us a little bit about why you decided to go in to the military. >> serves incredibly blessed to get the opportunity to attend west point. the united states military academy. i was a pretty ordinary kid from southern california. i was a pretty good student

but saw this as a place where if you worked hard and told the truth and were faithful. steve: is that you right there. >> a little different version of me. maybe six, 12 months ago, something like that. goodness. i haven't seen that picture for a while. it was an amazing experience. i was around great young leaders, faculty that was committed to america. true patriots. it was formative for me. taught me a great deal what i know about leadership. helped me as my role as secretary of state. too. steve: one of the great things fleet week great recruiting tool. young people this is graduation season right now. thinking about their lives going forward, why should they consider a career in the military? >> yeah. if you are a young person, you are thinking about what to do next in n. your life there are lots of options. a time service to the nation, a time learning discipline, of learning leadership, of surrounding yourself with other patriots, people who care deeply about our country, i can't imagine a better way

to spend a handful of years in your life or to make it a career. brian: mr. secretary, i know that we got a chance to meet steve cannon the president of the falcons and he graduated with you in 1986. you lost a key member of your graduating class johnny mac. this johnny mac foundation i got a chance to meet a bunch of your class members. you guys are like family. >> brian, have you been such a great friend to the johnny mac foundation. a tragic loss for our class it brought us together. about 1,000 of us graduated back in 1986, good friends a bunch of folks like steve went on to success. some of us just managed our way through. brian: just barely scraped by. >> it's a great group of people who continue to give back to america in various ways. you see steve in the private sector but working to provide assistance to families who have service members who were killed. this there is still a whole bunch of us prepared to give back. great thing about the tradition of the military even when you take the uniform off you still care deeply about this country and aim to serve it. brian: they are proud of

reportedly asking the national guard for help at this hour as the head of the county e.m.s. says they are in disaster mode. steve: and a separate set of storms, a separate tornadoes leaves three people dead in karl junction, missouri, which is not far from there. ainsley: look how scary that video is houses being swept away by the fluid. that's in oklahoma. that house crumbling into the water. and evacuations are underway as the rivers there keep on rises. brian: senior meteorologist janice dean is in the weather center tracking these dangerous storms as the suns come up. janice? janice: yeah, we will be seeing more damage, of course, and the national weather service will go out and determine what category we are dealing with in terms of tornadoes that moved through missouri. was it is the same tornadoes or separate tornadoes that made towrdz in this area? overnight last night within the last 12 to 18 hours, we had reports of over two dozen tornadoes with major damaged in golden city and jefferson city and that's of course where we're getting

reports of people trapped. search and rescue going through out area. this is our first tornadoes report here. south and west of jefferson county and second report we think it's the same tornadoes but the national weather service will go out and do their investigation and report back to us as to whether this was an ef 3, ef-4 or even ef 5 which is the highest values you can put on a tornadoes. certainly violent damage last night over parts of missouri. and there's the tornado watch still in effect for parts of missouri through illinois. we could see a line of storms that could produce not only tornadoes but large hail. damaging winds and we haven't even talked about the flooding rainfall. these are the storm reports within the last 72 hours. we knew we were going to be dealing with a severe weather outbreak. unfortunately one of these tornadoes moved through a heavily populated area. and that's why we have reports of damage and deaths unfortunately. today's threat stretching from texas across the ohio river valley into more populated cities like

sacred holiday. the fact it will take one day out of the year to remember those that paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy our lives. they, you know, gave up their dreams, their lives so that we could live ours. steve: we are looking at some of the images through your military career. tell us a little bit about your story. where are you from? >> originally my father was in the navy. retired pensacola, florida. i was fortunate and blessed couldn't do it again got deployment to the naval academy. went into the submarine force and here i sit today. brian: you see the men and women sitting behind us and the ones you walked through and surrounding us, what are your thoughts about serving in 2019. >> i will tell you, i admire these men and women. i know the challenges they face and they have my utmost admiration, the greatest take away from 35 years in service these men and women i served with. brian: especially when you look at the challenges in the south china sea and abraham lincoln going to the

has been criticized over concerns of potential misuse. shareholders rejected proposals to ban the technology. brian? brian: thanks, jillian. it's my pleasure uss leading up to memorial day stand next to leroy petrie medal of honor recipient after what happened to him seven tours in afghanistan and iraq. great to see you. >> great to see you. thank you for having me. brian: you lost your hand and you actually were awarded this medal of honor. bring us back to may 2008. >> we were going after high valued target in afghanistan as we went out to a rural area and started entering a compound. started clearing the building as myself and another range took fire 20 feet away. took fire below armpit. i threw a grenade over at the enemy went off. brought fire. ran over to another ranger.

help him stayed on radio with my commands and let them know what is going on. next thing i know checking back on them a grenade had come over and i reached over and grabbed it. it was right behind them. as i was throwing it away from them it completely took the hand off at the wrist and sat up, put a tourniquet on it and checked on my guys they both got minor shrapnel both went out on missions the next day and able to run to our medics. that's when they said we need to look at your legs and that's when i noticed how bad my legs were. we did lose one guy there in that courtyard that day. specialist gabe mccaul who gave the ultimate sacrifice. brian: the pain you must have been going through shot in your thighs and missing a hand and still trying to survive and help others. can you bring us back to the mind set? >> you don't think about the pain. i knew i was shot initially in the left leg. i figured it if i made it out of there they would dig the bullet out later. you focus on those still

around you to your right and left. even as i was on the stretcher being medevaced that was the right thing security not coming over to comfort me. i didn't want them to see them get shot trying to comfort me. as a leader, as a father, that's what you do. i looked at them as my children as my brothers and so i would have done the same for them. but, there is something we don't talk about in the military. definitely not in the rangers. it's better than red bull giving you wings, it's love for another fellow soldier. brian: that's the only thing that could wrap your head around the fact that you see a grenade and you want to throw that grenade to save the people around you. so the rehab process from the thigh to the hand what was that like? >> you know, i was there in san antonio during a lot of casualties were coming back burns, amputees and so folks came out and greeted me that had more severe injuries

than i had. and i saw the attitudes that they had and they were sm happy. so it was still a team effort through recovery. the doctors and nurses. it was tough but we got to progress on in life. brian: progress on. he went back for another tour after he rehabbed and then soon everyone started realizing how special you were as you served, especially that one day and then the president gives you word that you are nominated and you are going to be getting the medal of honor. and you put that around your neck, what's that like? >> for me it was humbling because it doesn't belong to me. i get to hold on to it. but it represents all of us -- those who are still serving those who have served but especially those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. my son when they asked him how it was to meet the president and receive the medal of honor he sai i'm just happy my dad saved some of his buddies and they are

still alive. brian: under the mission act veterans will have more access to healthcare, right? >> yes. still coming out with the regulations finalized and whatnot. but, it should be easier for those care providers out in the community to be reimbursed from the v.a. which when you pay somebody for doing a service, they are more likely to do a better job. and yo our veterans will be able to have that ability to go out and get the help they need. hopefully in a more timely manner. steve. brian: i know for you especially, memorial day is more than a barbecue and third day off. thanks for your service. thanks for being here today and thanks for telling your story. >> thanks for all you do. thanks for having me. brian: that's the least we can do. leroy petyy thank you very much. brian: meet some of the men and women who serve on this ship. many have never been in new york before. they got a taste of night life last night and good news is they all came back

authorities are cautioning people to stay away from power lines, treat them if they are live. jefferson city said violent storm touched down 11:00 p.m. last night. fortunately thus far no deaths here in jefferson city. authorities warn that could change as daylight will assist rescue crews. unfortunately three deaths were confirmed in golden city to the southwest. jefferson city many calls were received from people trapped in their house. 20 people were transported local hospitals. they are going door-to-door climbing o debris to look for people. they will use force to make sure everyone is safe. jefferson city says fortunate the death toll is not catastrophic. perhaps time of years, all the tornadoes people are heeding warning. state police warning there are a lots of downed power lines,

amid growing tensions with the country of iran. ainsley: the acting defense secretary patrick shanihan says while threats from iran in the middle east remain high, that deterrent measures taken by the pentagon are put on hold the potential for attacks on americans. steve: what is going on? joining us to retired air force lieutenant-general richard newton. dick, good to have you. >> good morning. good to be with you again. steve: what do you think is happening, whatever they did they have now put things on hold? >> first off i think the president's national security team made a very, very effective decisions for the last several weeks to deter iranian aggression. as secretary pompeo said earlier in the show, the threats are credible and so forth. i think the president and his team took prudent actions. we deployed the american lincoln strike group.
