>> good looking sight here, air force one. colorado springs. we can show it if you want. there it is. have a great day. >> see you at 7:00 p.m. i'm in for miss martha. >> see you then. >> "outnumbered" starts right now. >> president trump arriving in colorado where he will deliver a commencement address to the u.s. air force academy. democratic leadership and 2020 candidates face new calls to impeach the president. this is "outnumbered." i'm melissa francis. here today, dagen mcdowell. lisa boothe, radio host and fox news contributor, leslie marshall and joining us on the couch, vice president of the mercury public affairs, ian prior. thanks for being here. >> nice to be here. >> ready to be outnumbered?
9:01 am
i like it. air force one touching down in colorado ahead of a speech to the u.s. air force academy. before leaving the white house, president trump responding to robert mueller's rare public appearance yesterday. watch. >> to me, it's the same as the report. there's no obstruction. you can see what we're saying. there's no obstruction, no collusion, no nothing. it's nothing but a witch hunt. this is a witch hunt by the media and the democrats. they're partners. >> [question inaudible] >> that means you're innocent. excuse me. he should have said you're guilty. >> the former special counsel's remarks fuelling impeachment in the house. more than 40 house democrats calling for impeachment proceedings to begin with justin amash. nancy pelosi not quite ready to go there. she's not ruling out the
9:02 am
possibility of impeachment but saying democrats need to first build a compelling case. >> nothing is off the table. we do want to make such a compelling case, an iron clad case that even the republican senate, which at the time seems to be not an objective jury, will be convinced of the path that we have to take as a country. >> not all of the democratic leadership on the same page. the communications committee chair, david cicilinne says the next process is to open an inquiry of whether or not articles of impeachment should be filed. here's the president with some thoughts on that. >> i never thought that would be possible, to be using that word. to me it's a dirty word, impeach. it's a dirty disgusting word.
9:03 am
it had nothing to do with me. so i don't think so. because there was no crime. >> ian, i wonder, speaker talks about building an iron clad case. you look at the time and the resources and the investigators and everything that went into the mueller report. if it's not contained in there, are they going to look elsewhere? where do you find it if it's not in there? >> i don't think they're going to do it. i don't think they'll look elsewhere. pelosi spent 20 of the past 24 years in the minority. the last place she wants to go back. right now you have 40 democrats out of 235 calling for impeachment. she's smart. you have david cicilline. he's not going to loose re-election. until you start getting democrats in swing districts calling for impeachment, which there hasn't been, they're not going to move on it. it's politically toxic. >> leslie, the argument they
9:04 am
would make, the high crime that they're talking about, is that the outrage of fighting against the investigation brought on by the fake dossier that was paid for by opposing candidates and was debunked and used to spy on the president? fighting back against that. is that the offense? >> no. what they're fighting against is what we heard special counsel mueller say yesterday and you didn't hear him say no collusion. he said the president did not commit a crime, we would have said so. he was clearly passing the buck to congress. >> what was the crime? >> you don't have to have a crime to abuse power. >> what is the offense? >> that's what they need to investigate to find out. >> what do you -- somebody has to name it. what is it? >> witness tampering. as the special counsel talked about on numerous occasions to try and obstruct the
9:05 am
investigation that -- >> so fighting an attack of what he felt was a frame-up? >> remember, congress doesn't have the same task that the department of justice, the attorney general's office has. one is criminal and the -- >> i get that. i just want to -- when nancy pelosi said there was a cover-up and you say what was he covering up specifically and i don't know that i've heard an answer to that. >> doesn't matter for the left. this is all a political narrative that is contrived by hillary clinton and the dnc that they paid for the russia collusion narrative via the dossier and pushing this to delegitimize the president. there was never collusion to begin with as told by robert mueller. after watching the press conference yesterday, i don't know how to say it otherwise besides the fact that robert mueller is a hack. he gave democrats what they wanted, more fuel to the fire of
9:06 am
impeachment because he had jerry nadler saying yesterday that they got everything they needed from robert mueller. they don't want him to testify before congress anymore because they got what they needed. also, think about it this way. robert mueller gave more deference to the russians yesterday than he did to president trump. he said he wasn't going to talk about the russian defendants regarding -- behind the hacking because he said they're presumed innocent until proven guilty and he wasn't going to talk about them but he didn't give the president the same deference. >> do you believe after that investigation and 440 pages and how he's conducted himself, you think he's a hack? i don't know that he's a hack. >> not a hack. but some of the democrats because he put voice to the words in the mueller report acted like he was the second coming of jesus christ, quite frankly. i thought it was evidence that they never read the mueller report in the first place. he didn't offer any new evidence. if you read the mueller report, he was reading it. he didn't say anything that was
9:07 am
new. all of a sudden many of these democrats are like oh, impeachment! i'll add this and i'll quote from the "wall street journal" editorial. if you read the mueller report, which i did, mueller's analysis of the obstruction makes clear that no investigation of ininstructive. no witnesses were interfered with. mr. mueller was allowed two years to issue about 500 search and seizure warrants and interview anybody he wanted to, including anyone in the white house. the only person he didn't interview was the president himself. >> how is he not a hack? what was the point of yesterday's press conference other than to fan the flames? >> i'd like to answer that. i think quite frankly this guy puts out 400-plus page report, which i read and i agree with you, dagen. we rarely agree. that he was voice to the words
9:08 am
that were on paper. the difference is what the american people heard -- the american people heard is attorney general barr saying something different. i think what he was saying, let me clarify. this is what i said. by the way, i'm stepping down. i don't feel that democrats -- >> now we can impeach. >> the democrats have been talking about impeachment for months. >> let's talk about what barr said versus mueller. i agree. very little news that came out. one piece of news is mueller saying the way that barr handled the report was done in good faith. there's other foe controversy that mueller said but for the report, i would have charged him. he didn't say that. what he said is because -- >> i want to tell our viewers, this is president trump getting off air force one. they arrived at peterson air force base in colorado springs for the air force academy
9:09 am
graduation. he will be speaking at a beautiful ceremony. we'll show you some of it when it happens. right now he's coming off air force one. we heard from him earlier today talking about the issues. we'll watch him as we continue. >> so this legal counsel opinion from the olc that says you can't indict a sitting president. there's a faux controversy that said we would have indicted him but were it for this opinion. he said we didn't even decide to decide. we made a decision to not have an analysis of whether he committed the crime because of that olc opinion. barr said the same thing in his may 1 testimony. last night the department of justice and the office of special counsel came out with a joint statement saying there was no daylight between the two statements. one other thing that i would add from the may 1 testimony of barr, he said mueller told him there may come a time when we need to re-visit the office of
9:10 am
legal counsel opinion. this is not that time. >> i don't know that it was a faux controversy. i was listening to both things. i'm not a lawyer. sounded like it was different. i thought the joint statement did try to rectify those things. do you wonder -- do we know that mueller was on board with that joint statement? he was here's my thing and i'm out of here. was he on board with that? >> i'm with you. i heard -- what i heard, the attorney general saying this but this is my report. this is what i'm said. by the way, i'm out of here. out to you, congress. that's what i saw. >> that's why i'm saying that he's a hack. he said yesterday that we should let his work stand. he went out there, gave a press conference to fuel this narrative against the president. he said he contradicted himself repeatedly. he said it would be unfair to accuse somebody of a crime when there's not a resolution of the actual charge.
9:11 am
then why volume 2 in the report? what was the purpose of that? why give that press conference besides fuelling this narrative? >> on that reason -- >> let your work stand. that's what he said. >> i want to ask a question. do you think that mueller does end up testifying? do you think that jerry nadler subpoenas him to testify? again, you might be careful what you wish for. he's going to get asked at what point did you know in your investigation there was no conspiracy from the last fisa warrant renewal, which was june of 2017 to when it would have been up for another renewal and it wasn't. but you had this investigation that went on for almost two more -- 1 1/2 years after that. again, mueller could wind up belly-flopping if he has to testify. you think it happens? >> a great question. a lot of risk there. you bring up an interesting point. in july of last year when the russians were hacking, i thought
9:12 am
investigation over. you look at the report, it was. that was before the mid-term election. we don't hear about that until after the election. >> i thought he was coming out because he was frustrated by the criticism that he was getting when people said you punted and it was your job to decide. he was said it was my job to investigate and lay out the facts on the table for someone else to decide. he said that's what i did. i investigated and laid it out. i thought that's what he tried to say. that was me. >> but even though it goes against the doj guidelines. if you don't bring charges, you leave it alone. you don't name and shame them, which is what he did, leaving this hanging doubt out there for the american public. again, he's a hack. >> i think we solved that. right now you're looking at the president in colorado springs. he's heading to the air force academy graduation. we can't hear what he's saying here as he gets into his motorcade to proceed.
9:13 am

>> now fox news is learning about a defensive briefing given to the trump campaign in august of 2016. a source telling our own catherine herridge that fbi officials did not specifically warn president trump about russian outreach to the trump team. nor did they warn that two campaign aides, michael flynn and george papadopoulos were already under fbi investigation. the coordinator for that briefing, none other than peter strzok. days earlier strzok and fbi lawyer, lisa page, had exchanged the now infamous "will stop trump" texts and discussed an insurance policy. house judiciary member john radcliff asked about this new info today. watch this. >> that relates to classified materials. i can't tell you what is in the materials but i've seen them. what is public and not classified is that there was a
