unite republicans and democrats and the independents. >> tucker: you can't tell the truth. you picked the worst time in american history to be the truth-teller, didn't you? >> if there is a time to tell the truth, facts matter. it's now. i think they will reward the candidate that says something that is not popular but the right thing to say. that is what he is trying to do. >> tucker: it goes without saying that i'm rooting for everything you just said to be are true. >> you will get us in trouble. >> tucker: i'm not endorsing delany. he is a decent man. generally a decent person. it's not that. but you want to live in a country from the facts do matter where you can have an adult debate. it's not pandering to the delusion of the voters or of anyone, dumb people in the specific case of the democratic primary voters but is there any evidence that the democrats are in the mood to hear things they disagree with? >> in california, they certainly weren't a fan of it.

but we are seeing great results in new hampshire, in iowa. i think that there is a real appetite to have a discussion in the country about how we move forward. what you saw in california is different than in iowa, new hampshire, and democrats are a big ten party. we don't have to agree but we do need to have an honest conversation. >> tucker: make me feel better. everything you are saying it seems is wrong. there is appetite for honest conversation. i never see it on this show. we have people come on. you say something and disagree with. you're a racist! whatever. they call you names. big ten, we are watching now and there is one antiabortion democrat left in the house of representatives. they are trying to drum him out. is there evidence this is true? >> by me being here. you and i don't agree on a lot but me coming here it shows we are trying to have an honest debate. we need to have a truthful conversation. we have a lot of decisions to make heading to 2020.

gun. there are many categories that can't buy guns ever. anybody can buy any gun at any time is a lie. told by somebody that should know better. the left isn't looking for regulation but the bans followed by confiscation. buyback. that is the euphemism. it's not buy back because they didn't own them in the first place. you did. most of them won't admit that. cory booker couldn't figure out what to say when asked how he would have prevented the recent mass shooting in virginia beach. watch this. >> a.t.f. says the two weapons used in the attack were handguns not semi-automatic assault rifles and purchased legally. how would your plan have stopped this tragedy if at all. >> we are not helpless to stop this. this is a uniquely american problem. this idea we are helpless to stop this is the evidence points differently.

weapons ban. people turned them or obeyed. if this happened on a federal scale people would realize this is the reason. if you have a politician tellog you, that you don't need a gun is when you need a gun. i hope people will figure out what is going on and see through the lies. part of the problem the lies are coming out and they have not doing good, they are misleading people. >> tucker: it is just -- it's clearly a form of social control. where is the conversation about the people who are actually committing gun violence. it's a small group of people. it's not narrowed to one group of the people or one geographic location. it's a small percentage of the population that is dangerous. the plans entail everyone else. why? >> i think disarming everyone else is almost inviting. i know that is a strong word but inviting the shootings. the shootings happen predominantly, almost all of

stem the flow of illegal immigrants in this country. there was good reason for doing this. in the past few months the situation on the southern border gone from difficult to calamitous. it has taken a few years but the word is out globally. this country is unable to stop people from entering, even if we catch them. you cross the border with a child or claim to be a child yourself or claim asylum and you're released to the enter of the country. when you do that, you will likely never leave. that is true. it's now widely known. as the news has spread entire vil lanels from guatemala depopulated. 1% of the nation of guatemala moved here in the past year. probably all nice people. but the point is we don't have control. more than 100,000 people are crossing the border illegally every month. illegal crossings are seven times as high as two years ago. it's not just latin america. despite what you hear. more than 1,000 ben 1,000 bangls

than jim crow and the internment of the japanese and worse than the metric system? insanity. but instead of calling out the obvious obsureddies, the -- absurdities the press pushed them along. but watch this on cnn. >> in series separating and counting we are shown the reunion of a father and his children after 184 days. >> they were separated six months ago after their father adolfo brought them across the texas border saying he was fleeing extortion and death threats. they were sent to live with their mother in seattle. after 184 days of being separated -- he got to hug his children again. >> what happens when a u.s. citizen faces that situation. you get child protection services involve and you have a court hearing. >> these are not u.s. citizens. >> exactly. so it's different treatment based solely on the immigration status. >> tucker: oh, we treat our

citizens differently from foreign nationals. okay. so in case the facts of that were muddied to you, let's outline them here. illegal immigrants crossed the border to our country. the children were sent to live with their mother who may also be here illegally. the father was detained for a few months and then released back in this country. it's overwhelmingly likely none of them will ever leave this country but according to cbs news that is an injustice because they were not treated with full citizens with voting rights, free healthcare and everything else. they were treated different based on immigration status. uh-huh. they used to be called being a country. but thanks to people like cbs news and beto o'rourke the idea is dying. tom is the former acting director of i.c.e. and joins us tonight. thank you for coming on. is it odd to you to hear the press outraged at the notion we treat citizens differently from the foreign nationals? >> no. it outrages me every time i talk about this.

beto o'rourke is obviously not real smart and he hasn't done his homework. they say it's cruel and unusual. the to categorize men and women of border control who put their lives on line every day to make that comment, they are enforcing the laws that congress enacted. so congress cruel and inhumane when they made laws? we are talking about a total of 12 families a day separated. if you look at the pilot done, the d.n.a. pilot, 20-30% of the families are not families. >> tucker: you make a good point. these politicians attack the working class employees whose job it is to carry out their orders. they never attack the the big businesses employing the illegal labor or attack donors encouraging the illegal immigration. they attack the people making 50,000 a year in uniform. >> exactly. they have ownership of the issue. >> i would say! >> the whole reason that the

family and children are coming up, they have not fixed loopholes that cause them to come to the country in the first place. talk about the children. 12 children a day are separated because we don't know if they are the parents. sad as it is. nobody talking about the 15,000 children in custody of h.h.s. separated by their parents. child is in central america. the parent hired a criminal organization to smuggle the child to the country. that is humane. they are better in the hands of the criminal organizations than the few in the custody of government and licensed facility? the fy-19 appropriations bill signed in february, the democratic part of that committee put the language in the bill to say i.c.e. cannot take action on parent or sponsor or anyone in the household. so they open the flood gate and say if you are a parent you can hire criminal organization to smuggle your child in country and you won't be held accountable or charged with a crime. we won't put you in the immigration court to make a family claim. which i call parenting 101.

the democrats put that in. when i said that the day they signed that you said you will see the u.a.c. numbers skyrocket. it has skyrocketed and opened the flood gates. >> tucker: we have been hearing there are central american families moving up here, living here illegally. the united states messed with the internal workings of the country. in the '80s. we deserve it. what will they tella tell us abt bangladeshisiso or angolas coming here? >> it's humanitarian issue but this is what people are not talking about. the group of a thousand families came in. the criminal cartel coordinate this movement. they will fis push 1,000 throug. 40% of the border placement is already on the border. there are parts of the border that are not patrolled now. the tragic thing is if i'm a

terrorist, i don't buy an airline ticket. there are too many checks. i don't get a visa. because the security group does checks. if i'm a terrorist and i want to take advantage of the border in the chaos and come across the border with 12 million people who also came in. this is a national security crisis. god help us if the wrong people cross that border because of the chaos and this country will go to another 9/11. no one wants to talk about it but the border is vulnerable and a possibility. >> tucker: i hope it doesn't happen but it's clear it could. >> congress needs to wake up. this is protecting the country and securing the border. i don't care if you are a republican or democrat. they hate this president more than they love this country. that is a stone cold fact. >> tucker: thank you for joining us. >> you got it. >> tucker: once again you hear calls for impeachment in washington.

>> if nancy pelosi called for the invasion of canada would you say she has it exactly right? >> i wouldn't. there are things she doesn't get light. >> tucker: i just wanted to make sure. >> but in this case, i think she is. you can make fun of it but she is walking a line and mindful of the members of the red to blue districts that got her in the majority. but it's not ultimately, it's a political judgment. we know that. impeachment. >> yes. >> i think as she said what is wrong with the proposition that the public broadly, not just democrats in the base, the core of the base, that is not who needs to be supportive of this. there needs to be broad support. that is small. >> tucker: all we talk about is the trump shortcomings. they have information and made up their minds. close to half the country likes him and close to half doesn't. i don't see much changed. but what bothers me is the disconnect between the rhetoric and solution. you have jerry nadler the

chairman of the house judiciary committee saying, "it is very clear that the president obstructed justice." many others, congressman swalwell and others said the same thing. if they believe that don't they have a moral duty to impeach him? >> not really. the public needs to be supportive of the notion something they consider kind of level of criminality -- look. in retrospect what bill clinton did, did not reach the level. ultimately the public was there. that is why his popularity kept getting higher over the time that the republicans were on his back. i might add george bush won the white house by virtue of playing on that. i don't think it's a case of the democrats overplaying their hands to go down the impeachment route but pelosi is right. it needs to be something more than a process problem. that is the problem with obstruction only. >> tucker: it does seem, though, like they are obsessed with trump to the point i can't remember the last time i heard a solution to anything.

like what is a solution to the border crisis? you have a thousand people from bangladesh sneaking in or congo or whatever. clearly things are out of control. what is the answer to the opioid endemic? what is the answer to anything other than trump? >> if you look at the list of things that the democrats passed in several months since they have been in office, climate change and shoring up the healthcare system and education, the things that are not -- >> tucker: this is not a rich person issue. not a doe for -- donor issue. >> it's the fate of the planet. >> tucker: that is wildly overstated. >> i don't think so. >> tucker: in an actual issue, what have they done? >> they talk about the funding to beef up any number of things including the fence. the thing that trump wants to call a wall. they have supported replacing the fence with kind of -- >> pelosi told me that was

successful celebrities on the planet why can't i think contrarianly occasionally. >> tucker: they are the obedient lemmings ever. >> absolutely. >> tucker: what would truly transgressive look like in 2019? >> i think truly transgressive actually would be thinking outside the box. the hollywood box on something like immigration or diversity or any of the clichés of the age. it's very, actually it's very sad when you look at the counter culture figures. counterculture has to have a culture to be counter to. and the counter culture did such a good job that it is now the establishment, and it can't bear to see it itself like that. which is why you have robert dinero because he won. he has nothing to push against anymore. and kanye west, i think, is just saying couldn't we at

least recognize that the celebrity life is more fun, boring hollywood dinner parties would be for fun if we at least allowed two sides to every issue. instead of just -- as you had mentioned, droning on about climate change and saving the planet. imagine how boring that would be at a hollywood beverly hills? wouldn't it be great if kanye or one of his pals said i don't think it's such a big deal. but they are not allowed to say that. >> tucker: it makes them really mad when you say. that i've done that. people don't like that. >> yeah, no, they don't. >> tucker: there is only one side. >> that makes boring art, boring pop culture. whether or not he is boppingers i love him for busting out of -- bonkers, i love him for busting out of it occasionally. >> tucker: great to see you, mark. >> thanks, tucker.

their own interview subjects are getting murdered. they fro filed a south african farmer stefan schmidt. schmidt told the newspaper he received death threat including a threat to burn him alive. he said he had been intimidating to selling his lantz to local government officials. it featured quotes from the political activists openly attacking schmidt on the basis of his skin color. the "times" again concluded it's false to say the farm murders are real problems. but yesterday four men broke in to his home and shot him dead. it was the second murder in the last month. according to the "new york times" they deserved it. well, member in good standing of wall street elite quit his job to travel the country. and figure out exactly what was going on in the places where most of us don't visit.

everywhere. >> so you -- when the trump election happened, i don't know what your politics are. i assume you're liberal, i combesz. >> liberal, yes. >> but you were one of the very few people from your world, which is also our world, urban coastal america, to raise your hand and say, wait a second, i think i know why this guy got elected. >> right. and even more than that, i actually had -- i saw it as a warning since i'm a leftist. i said prior to the election i think this guy could easily win. and if he doesn't win, then someone like him is going to win because what i saw, and i put 150,000 on my cars going through the country other -- over the course of three years, primarily documenting addiction, that was my focus at the time, was a deep frustration and -- what i call in back row america and part of the country i thought wasn't necessarily being listened to or covered by the -- by the media. and that frustration was

independent of race. it was independent of place. >> right. >> and within the white community, what i saw that frustration being channeled into was a supporting overthrowing the curtis status quo which they saw trump accomplishing that for them. >> interesting. do you think it's changed? i mean, the phenomenon you've described is better known now. but when i flip through the channels, i still don't see a lot of people addressing it directly. do you think the press is starting to pay attention or no? >> i think they're trying to. one of the things i try to get at in my book is that the divisions are actually so great that it would speak two different languages. i call myself and you, for instance, and those of us who have that vast education, i call us the front row. and i think that as much as we try with good intentions to -- to listen to the back row, to

understand where they're coming from, i don't think we fully get what they want. and i think when we try to, we often condescend to them. when we think about them, we say your job is obsolete, your life style issicy, move. but what we should say is why don't we listen a little bit more. now, i want to emphasize again, this is true -- i spent almost 70% of my time in minority communities. this is not a trump voter phenomenon. this is a frustration, the back row, the working class a lot of us elites don't understand. >> i agree. it's going to bite back really hard at some point soon. thank you so much. i hope this book gets the wide readership that it definitely deserves and that your story is heard. >> thank you for having me. >> of course. it's our pleasure. thanks. hard to believe it's over already, like sands through an hour glass.
