9:00 pm
in the end, everybody is safe for the dash cam tells the story. for glad you spend the evening with us. good night from washington. i'm shannon bream. >> tucker: good evening. welcome to "tucker carlson tonight." happy june.. so yesterday cnn held town hall with a trio of candidates. all three of them are the democratic members of congress. none is in danger of becoming president anytime soon. and why do we pay attention to what they say?y? because as they stammer and sweat and pander for profusely, they give us a good idea of what the democratic primary voters believe and what they care about. what they care about most and what they can't stop talking about ever is race. they are obsessed in a deeply unhealthy way. racial obsessions are always a deeply unhealthy. watch sethay molton talk about
9:01 pm
how they didn't elect stacey abrams governor not because she wouldn't a good governor but they are bigots. >> if she wasn't person of >> people of color are being systemically denied the most basic rights in democracy, which is the right to vote. >> so he went to harvard and hanover, unlike you, so he must be a verified genius and a good person too. somehow it didn't muster a single piece of evidence to show his claims were true. actually, they are not true because it's not 1953 1953 any. they can't let you know that though. for seth moulton's purposes, purposes of control, it's got to be jim crow alabama at all times now and forever.
9:02 pm
burning crosses and the sound of night writers in the distance. that'll keep you terrified and easier to manipulate bid that's the whole point. eisenhower sent the 101st airborne to bring the south to heal. but modern democratic party has big business to make them obey. watch eric swalwell of california bow before the gods of woke capital. >> you have and flicks, and bc, they all warned they may halt business here if that law goes into effect. do you support that kind of boy boycott? >> cnn may have to newsprint a lot of young women who work for that work work. >> tucker: do i support big companies putting putting big companies in charge of america social of course i support that. screw the voters. they are irrelevant. the billionaire donors will bringg back the abortion fairy. notice the applause from the audience. they love that. the democratic primary supports love that a f billionaire will ride to the
9:03 pm
rescue and make everything okay. you know what they don't like? they don't like the reality. that infuriates them. biology is real. russia did not beat hillary. global warming isn't actually killing millions of people now. all true statements and it drives them bonkers because it's true. watch the response from john hickenlooper who is also running for president to remind them thatop socialism doesn't really work. >> if we want to beat donald trump and achieve big progressive goals, socialismd is not the answer. i was re-elected -- [booing] if we are not careful, we will help re-elect the worst president in american history. >> tucker: that is the point where hickenlooper should have
9:04 pm
paused and called out the audience and ask them to name a single place outside of sweden in the 1970s where socialism actually worked. anyone? anyone? but of course he didn't do that. he was afraid. moist palm democrat. god knows what the mob would've done if he tried. watch what happened to john delaney, may be the bravest of anyone in the race when he suggested that medicare for all might not be such a great idea. >> medicare for all may sound good but it's actually not good policy nor is it good politics. i'm telling you. [boos] i'm telling you. 100 -- [boos] >> tucker: he is dying out there. boo! stop him before he hurts ourur dreams!ef if he want it to be true, it must be true, screamed the 4-year-olds in attendance. i am the center of the universe.
9:05 pm
cater to me. tell me i'm wonderful. if you strip it away that is the message of the democratic voters. 200-proof narcissism. give us more! [laughter] the narcissist in chief was offended. very offended. for the crime of making an obvious point, point, alexandria ocasio-cortez went on twitter and demanded that delaney get out of the race. that doesn't in the end bode well for democrats. when a party demands delusion, that means only the delusional can win. michael star-hopkins is the p national press secretary for his campaign. thank you for coming on. >> thank you for having me. >> tucker: ifto i could summarize the response your candidate. >> we knew going in what we were going to say is not popular. medicare for all is not the best system going forward but we need a truth-teller. we are in a primary and the democrats have to decide whether we are going to the left or move to the center. only way we beat trump is putting forth a candidate to unite republicans and
9:06 pm
democrats and the independents. >> tucker: you can't tell the r truth. you picked the worst time in american history to be the truth-teller, didn't you? >> i don't think so. if there is a time to tell the truth, facts matter. it's now. i think they will reward the candidate that says something that is not popular but the right thing to say.s that is what he is trying to do. >> tucker: it goes without saying that i'm rooting for everything you just said to be true. >> you will get us in trouble. >> tucker: i'm not endorsing delany. he is a decent man. generally a decent person. it's not that. but you want to live in a country where the facts do matter where you can have an adult debate. it's not pandering to the delusion of the voters or of anyone, dumb people in thehe specific case of the democratic primary voters but is there any evidence thathe the democrats are in the mood to hear things they disagree with? >> in california, they certainly weren't a fan of it. but we are seeing great
9:07 pm
results in w new hampshire, in iowa. i think that there is a real appetite to have a discussion in the country about how we move forward. what you saw in california is different than in iowa, new hampshire, and democrats are a big tent party. we don't have to agree but we do need to have an honest conversation. >> tucker: make me feel better. everything you are saying it seems is wrong. there is appetite for honest conversation. i never see it on this show. we have people come on.hi you say something and disagree with. you're a racist! whatever. they call you names. big tent, we are watching now and there is one antiabortion democrat left in the house of representatives. they are trying to drum him out. is there evidence this is true?t.hi >> by me being here. you and i don't agree on a lot but me coming here it shows we are trying to have an honest debate. we need to have a truthful conversation.tee we have a lot of decisions to make heading to 2020. what he is trying to do is say
9:08 pm
that you may not like everything i'll say but i'm still going to say it. you will respect that while you disagree with me you will know that my heart is in the right place. i think that's a message hopefully will really was nate come 2020. >> tucker: how is it doing so far? >> so far, so good. paul's are almost a year away from the first caucus. we'll see. >> tucker: you haven't won over the leader. seems to be the leader of your party, a.o.c. she says you should sashay away. what does that mean? what does that mean? >> it's like one of those pop culture things. i am a big fan of aoc. she is good for the party and good representative for the young girls to see. do i agree with her? i don't. i thought it was a cheap shot. >> tucker: the message is the opposite of what you are saying. she is not rebutting your candidate's point. she is saying you disagree with me, so leave. that is like a fascist impulse beer that's not a big tent impulse, not not an open-minded
9:09 pm
impulse. that's the impulse to crush and destroy things -- which is why i was disappointed in the tweet itself. >> aoc has been a leader in the party for the last six or seven months and i thought this betrayed that. i think moving forward hopefully we can have more of a debate. >> tucker: and let me just say, i love what she said about amazon. she was absolutely right about amazon and we gave her credit for that on the show because we are not partisan.nd but have you seen any evidence she is open-minded at all about anything? >> absolutely >> tucker: really? >> absolutely. when she ran in queens she thingsabout a lot of that crowley wasn't talking about. >> tucker: has she changed her mind or shown a willingness to change her mind or listen to the other side ever? a single time? >> i don't personally know aoc, but i will say -- to answer your question, no! >> i think we need to do better having open conversations. >> tucker: what would happen if you said she should sashay
9:10 pm
off the stage? >> i would never say that to y her. >> tucker: you couldn't because in your party, you'd be a sexist. >> it'd be a real opportunity to have a real conversation. i hope she takes advantage of it. >> tucker: great to see you tonight. well,im seth moulton is in becoming president anytime soon but doing best to articulate his party's evolving position on firearms. on cnn last night, and he said if he ever gets real power he'll take guns away from you and every other law-abiding american who has committed no crime. >> weapons of war have no place on our streets or in our schools and whether it's declaring a national emergency or pursuing executive action, i will do whatever i can to actually make progress on those gun violence plaguing america. >> tucker: mr. andover harvard again. weapons of war, you may be thinking? where are the weapons of war, are they on our streets? no. they are not.ar
9:11 pm
they have never been. they are locked away in the armory of your local military base. that's where the weapons of war are held.or what bulletin is referred to are the semiautomatic like the ones used for home defense or the ones to hunt deer or t hogs. in. brazil last week, barack obama told more lies about guns in a single paragraph than seemed possible before he began speaking. watch this. >> some of you may be aware of the gun laws in the united states don't make much sense. anybody can buy any weapon, anytime, without much if any regulation, they can buy over the internet. they can buy a machine gun. >> tucker: they can buy machine guns over the internet! really? go ahead and do that. you can't buy guns over the internet. you can't order a gun on the internet and have it delivered to you house? it has to go through someone a federal firearms license. and good luck buyingou a machine gun. there are many categories that can't buy guns ever.
9:12 pm
felons, the mentally ill, others, who can buy my guns at all ever. anybody can buy make any weapon at any time? that's not a bad interpretation of the law, that's a lie told by someone definitely smart enough to know better. the left isn't looking for more regulation but outright bands followed by confiscations. buyback. that's the euphemism. it's not voluntary. it's mandatory. by the way, it's not a buyback because they didn't on the guns in the first place. you did. most won't admit that. that's why senator cory booker couldn't figure out what too say when he was asked how he would've prevented the most recent mass shooting in virginia beach. watch this. >> a.t.f. says the two weapons used in the attack werett handguns not semi-automatic assault rifles and purchased legally. how would your plan have stopped this tragedy if at all. >> we are not helpless to stop this. this is a uniquely american problem. this idea we are helpless to stop this is the evidence points differently. >> sorry to interrupt. you say we are not helpless.
9:13 pm
what would have. prevented this tragedy? what steps would have stopped the massacre in virginia beach? >> you have taken a look at the 16 and 17 things we have in my plan that would drop the levels of violence overall. >>ki i hear you not talking abot this specific massacre but talking about gun violence in general. >> tucker: what a buffoon. what a buffoon. yale law guy, by thehe way. former special operations snipe sniper, firearms attorney, ryan, thank you very much for coming on. >> thanks for having me back. >> tucker: i won't bore you with the rhetorical question what could we have done to prevent this or that. how fraudulent does this position have to be before all of us stop playing along and stop pretending this is about safety. it's not about safety. >> it's not. it's absolutely not about safety. there is not a single thing in senator booker's proposal that would have done anything to help the tragedy that happenedd
9:14 pm
in virginia beach. he is proposing the universal background checks. the checks were passed. he proposes one handgun a month. one handgun in the evil person's hands is too many. the laws are an admission. we've talked about this before. every call for new gun laws is an admission that current gun laws don't work. >> tucker: what bothers me is the idea of this society fracturing, of this order in the country of you know, what would happen if you actually is trying to start taking people 'guns away. law-abiding citizens was her his guns away.wa just normal people who checked every box, everything they've been to do. what would happen to the country? >> the reason we have the second amendment doesn't give us the right to bear arms. to protect that right for us. it's there to protect the tyrannical government. on the other side, i'm nervous, tucker. i hate to admit it. i used to live in connecticut when they t came out with the
9:15 pm
assault weapons ban, the so-called assault weapons ban, people turn them in or obeyed. if it happened on a federal scale that people would react wake up and realize this is the exact reason. when you have a politician telling you you don't need a gun, that's when you need a gun. i hope you will figure out what's going on here and people see through these lies per that's part of the problem. the way these lies are coming out, not only are they not doing any good, they are misleading people. >> tucker: it is just -- it's clearly a form of sociall>> control. where is the conversation about the people who are actually committing gun violence. it's a fairly small group of people. it's not narrowed to one group of people or one geographic location. it's a small percentage of the population that is dangerous. and yet their plans all intel disarming everyone else. why? >> i think disarming everyone else is almost inviting. i know that is a strong word but inviting the shootings.. the shootings happen predominantly, almost all of them at gun free zones.
9:16 pm
the tool doesn't matter. the common denominator of any one of these mass terrorist events is a deranged evil person bent on hurting innocent people. whether it's a box cutter on 9/11 or bombs in texas or the marathon bomber in t boston. the tool is not going to stop them. we already have murder, that's already illegal. we've even talked about this before. unless you make the penalty o possession of a gun higher than murder it will not deter the sick people from doing what they are doing. >> tucker: you wrote a great piece about this today but barack obama saying that anybody can buy any firearm including machine guns online at any time, there are so many falsehoods in that, that would have to be in the intentional lie. correct? >> absolutely. it wasn't told here. that is another hint it's intentional lie. going to foreign countries talking bad about america. >> tucker: that is the deeper point. i'm glad you made. ryan, thank you very much. good to see you. >> thank you for having me on.
9:17 pm
>> tucker: the crisis at the southern border getting worse by the day. thousands of people are streaming here in some places far away countries. really far away. angola, bangladesh. what is happening. a total lack of control. not a good sign. details after the break. i have a vision correction number, but i'm more than a number. when i'm not teaching, i'm taking steep grades and tight corners. my essilor lenses offer more than vision correction with three innovative technologies for my ultimate in vision clarity

you never know what life is going to throw at you. [ whimpering ] and from this point on. nothing is going to be the same. [ "all these things that i've done" by the killers ] no, no, no. this way buddy. no! liam's heads for comforts is in the 80th percetile. oh that's cool. it's a lot of head. it's like you're the dad and i'm the mom and we're in a relationship and this is our baby. [ laughing ] well... it's exactly like that! exactly! >> tucker: so, late last week the president announced plans to place a 5% tariff on all goods imported from mexico in to the united states. all goods. cars to avocados, unless the mexican government works to stem the flow of illegal

immigrants in this country. there was good reason for doing this. in the past few months the situation on the southern border gone from difficult to calamitous. it has taken a few years but the word is out globally. this country is unable to stop people from entering, even if we catch them. you cross the border with a child or claim to be a child yourself or claim asylum and you're released to the enter of the country. when you do that, you will likely never leave. that is true. it's now widely known.as as this news has spread, entire villages for example from guatemala have depopulated. 1% of the entire nation of guatemala has moved here in just the past year. probably all nicebu people. but the point is we don't have control. more than 100,000 people crossing the border illegally every single month. illegal crossings are seven times as high as they were two years ago. it's not just latin america either despite what you hear. more than 1,000 bangladeshis from bangladesh,00 which is a lg way away from here from asia
9:23 pm
were caught crossing the border last year. this past thursday, the border patrol apprehended hundred 16 illegal immigrants who traveled all the way from cameroon, the congo, and on gola in africa. this just doesn't matter anymore. across the world, it's common knowledge that if you can make it to our border, odds are you'll never have to go back. by the way, there is an ebola outbreak happening in the congo right now. maybe it isn't a a great idea to let people from their enter our country illegally. that doesn't matter to anyone in washington anyway. at meet the press over the weekend, beto o'rourke explain trying to control immigration is evil. >> my empathy and my sympathy is with the families who have had to flee the deadliest countries on the face of the planet met with the greatest cruelty and inhumanity in this country's history. we have the capacity to be able to take care of those families. >> tucker: the greatest
9:24 pm
cruelty in this country's history, worse than slavery, worse than jim crow, was in internment of the japanese? insanity. but instead of calling out the obvious obsureddies, the -- absurdities the press pushed them along. but watch this on cnn. >> in series separating and counting we are shown the reunion of a father and his children after 184 days. >> they were separated six months ago after their father adolfo brought them across the texas border saying he was fleeing extortion and death threats. they were sent to live with their mother in seattle. after 184 days of beingth separated -- he got to hug his children again. >> what happens when a u.s. citizen faces that situation. you get child protection services involve and you have a court hearing. >> these are not u.s. citizens. >> exactly. so it's different treatment based solely on the immigration status. >> tucker: oh, we treat our citizens differently from foreign nationals. oif
9:25 pm
okay. so in case the facts of that were muddied to you, let's outline them here. illegal immigrants crossed the border to our country. the children were sent to live with their mother who may also be here illegally. the father was detained for a few months and then released back in this country. it's overwhelmingly likely none of them will ever leave this country but according to cbs news that is an injustice because they were not treated as full citizens with voting rights, free healthcare and everything else. they were treated different based on immigration status. uh-huh. used to be called being a country. but thanks to people like cbs news and beto o'rourke the idea is dying. tom is the former acting director of i.c.e. and joins us tonight. thank you for coming on. is it odd to you to hear the press outraged at the notion we treat citizens differently from the foreign nationals? >> no. it outrages me every time i talk about this. beto o'rourke is obviously not
9:26 pm
real smart and he hasn't done his homework. they say it's cruel and unusual. n to categorize men and women of border control who our american patriots put their lives in a line every day to make that comment, they are enforcing the laws that congress enacted. soes was congress cruel and inhumane they made the laws? we are talking about a total of 12 families a day that are separated. if you look at the pilot being done, the dna pilot, 20%-30% of the families are not families. >> tucker: you make a good point. these politicians attack the working class employees whose job it is to carry out their orders. they never attack the big businesses who employ the illegal immigrant labor, they never attack donors encouraging illegal immigration. they attack people making 50,000 a year in uniform. >> exactly. they have ownership of the issue. >> i would say! >> the whole reason that the family and children are coming up, they have not fixed
9:27 pm
loopholes that cause them to come to the country in the first place. talk about the children. 12 children a day are separated because we don't know if they are the parents. sad as it t is. nobody talking about the 15,000 children in custody of h.h.s. separated by their parents. i child is in central america. the parent hired a criminal organization to smuggleil the child to the country.l that is humane. they are better in the hands of the criminal organizations than the few in the custody of government and licensed facility?he the fy-19 appropriations bill signed in february, thefa democratic part of that committee put the language in the bill to say i.c.e. cannot take action on parent or sponsor or anyone in the household. so they open the flood gate and say if you are a parent you can hire criminal organization to smuggle your child in country and you won't be held accountable or charged c with a crime. we won't put you in the immigration court to make a family claim. which i call parenting 101.
9:28 pm
the democrats put that in. when i said that the day they signed that you said you will see the u.a.c. numbers skyrocket. it has skyrocketed and opened the flood gates. >> tucker: we have been hearing there are central american families moving up here, living here illegally. the united states messed with the internal workings of the country.h i in the '80s. we deserve o it. what will they tell us about bangladeshis or angolas coming here? speak with the whole world knows our border is in k chaos. they don't think it's a big issue.ue it's a humanitarian issue, not a security issue. like the grip of a thousand family that came in, criminal cartels are controlling the c movement. they will push 1,000 through. they can push bad people and drugs through an area that is not patrolled. 40% of border control already ot the border. there are parts of the border than in a patrol right now.
9:29 pm
here's the tragic thing. if i'm a terrorist, i'm going to come to this country, i'm not going to buy an airline ticket, too many checks. i'm not going to get a visa because of the visa security unit does too many checks when you get a visa. if i'm a terrorist and i want to enter the country, i am going to take advantage of the border in chaos and come across the border with 12 million other people also came in the country for this is a national security crisis. god helpp us of the wrong people cross the border because of this chaos in this country will go up to another 9/11? no one wants to talk about it, but this border is vulnerable and it's a real possibility. >> tucker: i hope it doesn't happen but it's clear it could. >> congress needs to wake up. this is protecting the country and securing the border. i don't care if you are a republican or democrat. they hate this president more than they love this country. that is a stone cold fact. >> tucker: thank you for joining us. >> you got it. >> tucker: once again you hear calls for impeachment in washington. this time it seems like itme

9:35 pm
effectively impeach the president. >> tucker: it looks like that before the year is out everything else going on in this country, all the other unsolved problems, the opioids, homelessness, debt, the border, will be shoved aside for an impeachment. which will, of course, immediately devolve to some show trial. some people would be happy about this. s msnbc contributors as you saw but what about everybody else? former adviser to bill and hillary clinton and frequent guest on the show. to his shame i'm sure but to our t gratitude. thank you for coming on. i know because you have been around a long time and you arere a sensible person and you were here for the last impeachment. my guess is you are against impeachment. >> as of today. >> okay. >> i think pelosi is playing this exactly right. o what she is talking about is let get facts out. so far the courts are allowing that to happen. so far the litigation over what congress can and can not get hands on. >> if nancy pelosi called for
9:36 pm
the invasion of canada would you say she has it exactly right? >> i wouldn't. there are things she doesn't get right. >> tucker: i just wanted to t make sure. >> but in this case, i think she is. you can make fun of it but she is walking a line and mindful of the members of the red to blue districts that got her in the majority. but it's not ultimately, it's a political judgment. we know that. impeachment. >> yes. >> i think as she said what is wrong with the proposition that the public broadly, not just democrats in the base, the core of the base, that is not who needs to be supportive of this.s. there needs to be broad support.hi that is -- smart. >> tucker: all we talk aboutut is the trump shortcomings. they have information and made up their minds. close to half the countrymi likes him and close to half doesn't. i don't see much changed. but what bothers me is the disconnect between the rhetoric and solution. you have jerry nadler the chairman of the house judiciary committee saying, "it is very clear that the
9:37 pm
president obstructed justice." many others, congressman swalwell and others said the same thing. if they believe that don'tll they have a moral duty to impeach him?'t >> not really. the public needs to be supportive of the notion something they consider kind of level of criminality -- look. in retrospect what bill clinton did, did not reach the level. ultimately the public was there. that is why his popularity kept getting higher over the time that the republicans were on his back. i might add george bush won the white house by virtue of playing on that. i don't think it's a case of the democrats overplaying their hands to go down the impeachment route but pelosi is right. it needs to be something more than a process problem. that is the problem with obstruction only. >> tucker: it does seem, though, like they are obsessed with trump to the point i can't remember the last time i heard a solution to anything. like what is a solution to the
9:38 pm
border crisis? you have a thousand people from bangladesh sneaking in or congo or whatever. clearly things are out of control. what is the answer to the opioid endemic? what is the answer to anything other than trump? >> if you look at the list of things that the democrats passed in several months since they have been in office, climate change and shoring up the healthcare system andn education, the things that are not -- >> tucker: this is not a rich person issue. not a donor issue. >> it's the fate of the planet. >> tucker: that is wildly overstated. >> i don't think so. >> tucker: in an actual issue, what have they done? >> they talk about the funding to beef up any number of things including the fence. the thing that trump wants to call a wall. they have supported replacing the fence with kind of -- >> pelosi told me that was immoral. fences are immoral.
9:39 pm
>> talk about how to process immigrants in a way better for us as well as for the country. >> i think that i honestly think the democrats will losenk on this issue because global warming and hating trump do precisely nothing to improve the life of the average person. >> healthcare does. >> tucker: you are right. >> cleaves strongly and democrats for the affordable care act and republicans are against it. i think it hurts them. >> tucker: you may be right but they are not talking about that. i think they could win on healthcare. you are right. they won't win on global warming, whatever that, is and hatingha trump. they are not. >> preexisting conditions in healthcare. >> tucker: you may be right. i knew you would secretly agree with me on almost everything.e good to see you. kanye west is back. who is kanye west? he appears out of somewhere and he says things that are indisputably true and he leaves. he said a new thing indisputable true. mark steyn joins us to assess it after the break. just one free hearing test at

>> tucker: welcome back. before we get to the next segment i have been traveling all day so i guess i missed bethis. there is a story from "new york times" saying that bill de blasio the mayor of new york would like to appear at a town hall event on fox after attacking this channel, afterat suggesting we shouldn't be on the air. he is now saying because we have the biggest audience in tv he would like to come on and do a town hall event with us. that is not something we can speak to in primetime but i want to be completely clear. he is always welcome on this show. we have described bill de blasio i think correctly as the most incompetent mayor in the history of new york city. as a dumb person. shoddy person. but maybe we are wrong.

happy to have him on anytime. we hope he will take us up on that. well, rapper and entertainer kanye west appeared on the david letterman netflix show and while there he said something pretty true. obviously true but said it out loud. the american left suddenly decided to bully the rest of us. constantly.t watch. >> have you ever been beat up in your high school for wearing the wrong hat? >> i am beat up because people didn't like me.
