african-americans in jail accounted for 34%, the prison population, you have to be suspect. when democrats are offering any policy that impact african-americans, what you have seen time and again, lack lives don't matter, black votes better to democrats. in a situation like this where you are talking about people who usually lose rights when they go to prison because it is a punishment, not a blessing. i would think democrats are doing something to appeal to individuals on this basis and certainly is problematic. why are we talking about education? why aren't we talking about healthcare and issues that actually impact real people? why are we talking about giving benefits to prisoners? doesn't make sense. todd: a lot to break down. let's get to the accusation you hear from many on the right that

any of these moves are designed to get votes and democrats couldn't care less about progressive ideals they seem to be in favor of? >> it used to be nonpartisan. it was a nonpartisan issue. both sides agreed everyone has the right to vote in the united states but lately it has become very divided and bernie sanders is the only one fighting for this because vermont allows their people to vote from prison. he is familiar with it. elizabeth warren and others are on the fence. the pandering is and from all democrats. we can't all be lumped together. >> what you made it is not from all democrats? >> all democrats are not fighting for this. it is -- >> i'm not aware of any republicans supporting this narrative. >> it is very divided. they used to. >> when we are thinking about
