strengthened by their courage, let us continue to stand for the ideals for which they lived and died. >> martha: that's the "story" on june 6th. 2019. >> tucker: welcome to "tucker carlson tonight." every president since george washington faced political opposition. democracy are built on debate and competing ideas. if you find a political leader who seems universally loved you have found a dictatorship. as a matter of principle there is nothing wrong with opposing donald trump and his policies. that's not what has been happening for the past 2.5 years. nothing about the resistance enhanced our democracy or made this country better. the opposite.
5:01 pm
it's shredded democratic nowhere else. they imposed censorship is on much of the country and sided with the bureaucracy over voters. like former cia director john brennan under voters to ignore and undermine the elected president. that's more destructive than anything the russians attempted. at nbc news he delivers commentary. >> it's treason. it's a betrayal of the nation. >> treason is a betrayal of trust and aiding and abetting the enemy. >> tucker: when you disagree with john brennan, it's high treason. the death penalty. brennan is a reckless and
5:02 pm
unbalanced partisan. when we learned from a source last year that brennan retained his top secret security clearance as a civilian we were shocked but not surprised. brennan no longer works for the federal government and holds no official post. according to two sources we spoke to today, brennan retains the most valuable asset he had in government. a top secret security clearance. it's terrifying to think brennan still has access to that information. he is an extremist and should not have security clearance. senator rand paul said john brennan came on this show to say brenn brennan should not have a security clearance. then it was evoked and we
5:03 pm
assumed that was the end of the story. a year later brennan still as a security clearance? how? the executive branch ignored the president's orders. he was elected by voters and they were not. all legitimate power in the executive branch flows from him and the election he won. his employees don't care. bureaucrats wield the real authority. we decided to find out what happened. we called over to the executive branch. we were told that brennan no longer has access to classified information, that means the administration sent a letter to intelligence agencies explaining that brennan no longer has a need to know. that sound reassuring, but it's a mirage. it means nothing. bureaucrats can ignore that
5:04 pm
letter. the president of the united states was undermined by his own staff. he gave them a direct order. in their passive aggressive way they refused to carry it out. every time that happens our democracy erodes. that's fine with official washington. if holding elections mean donald trump wins power they are against holding elections. nancy pelosi said her goal is not to impeach the president. her goal is to put him in prison? for what crime? she did not specify. it doesn't matter. trump's real offense was getting elected in the first place. here is a radio host who is joining us. is it possible to tame the
5:05 pm
bureaucracy? >> no, there is a more pervasive attitude. the democratic party is from the deep state. there is a relationship between the people who work for the government and the democratic party supports them. we saw this with hillary clinton donations in the last election cycle. there is little accountability for what they do. there is little you can point to and say you will get in trouble for this. unless you break the law or don't show up at all, you will be able to stay and do what you want to do. >> tucker: you are more likely to die in a job than be fired by the federal government. this is a greater threat to our democracy or breaking into podesta's email account?
5:06 pm
>> it's a much bigger deal. there are people around the president that he may not know are part of a # resistance. they believe they are doing the country a favor by protecting us from different things he may say he wants to do. but that's fundamentally not their job. once you are talking about the federal bureaucracy, there are news stories about individuals who cried when president trump was elected and think they are doing the country a favor by refusing to enact policies they disagree with. how do you deal with this? i don't know. i don't think there is a way to have bureaucratic reform. >> tucker: the last thing you want to do is give more power to
5:07 pm
unelected bureaucrats? the past week democratic candidates said we should bypass congress to enact gun control and protect abortion and to fight global warming. give the agencies more power. that's an attack on democracy when you say that? >> yes, and it's showing you that the bureaucratic agencies, the permanent branch of government, tend to lean left. if you are looking to get things done that have the force of law but don't go through the legislative process and are not accountable to the people. turn to the bureaucracies for rule making. the rule making that goes on doesn't come from congress. unfortunately people like it when their side is in a position
5:08 pm
to do that. in the trump era this has gone to a new level. >> tucker: it's gone in the opposite direction. trump wins the election and is in charge of the executive branch of the federal government. yet, it's become even less accountable? >> right in the obama administration, epa would take it upon themselves without going to congress. in the trump administration the epa and state department and other places can decide they won't enact trump administration policies because they think it's better for the country. there is a lot of power in the different bureaucracies. how can they be accountable? who know what they are doing? very few people. people voting should not count
