[knocking] i have got some dirt on candidate b, would you take it? would you listen? would you call the fbi? this is what the president told george. >> your campaign this time foreigners, if russia, if china, if someone else offers you information on the opponent should you accept it or call the fbi. >> i think maybe you do both. i think you might want to listen. there is nothing wrong with listening. if somebody called from a country, norway, we have information on your opponent, oh, i think i would want to hear it. >> you want that kind of interference in the election? >> that's not interference. it's information. any thought there was something wrong i gold to the fbi. when somebody comes up with oppo research oh let's call the fbi. the fbi doesn't have enough agents to take care of it. did you go and talk honestly

brian: put it this way. nothing is free in this world. you don't want a foreign government or foreign entity giving you information because they will want something back. if anybody knows that it is the president. there is no free lunch. if someone wants information they want influence. i think the president has to clarify that i'm glad he is coming on tomorrow. he opened himself wide up to attacks. if china does say hey, president trump, i have got information on pete buttigieg because we know at south bend you can get up to a lot of no good and a lot of things going on there the president should say hey, keep it. i got this. because i don't want to owe china or russia something in return. steve: think about it this way though. the steele dossier which started the whole spying thing on the trump campaign, let's see where did that come from? that was funded initially by republicans doing opposition research against donald trump. brian: donald trump. steve: domestically. the russian influence came in started gathering information. unverified. a number of the sources were

close to the russian government. and who paid for that? that was dirt from hillary clinton and the dnc. ainsley: dnc and hillary clinton's campaign they funded fusion g.p.s. they hired this british spy, foreign operator, british spy to write this dirty dossier that turned out to be a hoax and not true. steve: was that against the law? brian: put it this way it was wrong. and i don't want to see it done again. steve: didn't work out well. brian: keep the other countries out. make sure they stay out. let's agree on that. the president stirred up a lot and all the sudden with 24 opponents. hypothetical trying to get a shot at the white house they weighed in. real threat to national security. kamala harris says the president is a national security threat. time for congress impeachment hearing elizabeth warren, time to impeach the president. ainsley: the president did say, if i learned that something was wrong, i would call the fbi.

steve: yeah. so, anyway. so george stephanopoulos posed that hypothetical question, mollie hemingway had this real life answer. >> george stephanopoulos' good friend hillary clinton took information from a foreign government. if it is a huge problem to take information from a foreign government, he should be asking her and democrats, you know, democratic national committee secretly bought and paid for this dossier that by their own accounting forced government officials in russia. if this is a huge problem and many people for years have been telling us it is. why aren't the media doing doing more to find out why this. how they created hoax conspiracy theory. i would like to see some people ask some tough questions of those people. brian: that's all true we will see what happens. we will clarify it tomorrow. the president of the united states, he takes on the media, he challenges the media, he will say come on, i will answer all your questions every day on the lawn. people are upset about the press briefings, how would

you like the president every day? you have the president every day. abc is very critical of him. you send your number one guy to spend two guys with the president. ainsley: hillary clinton guy. brian: still he gave george certify up in plus two days. you cannot say he only goes to friendly media. ainsley: he asked about the media he said witch huntington. why does the polls bother you if the race were tomorrow? it's untrue. and if i thought they were correct, i wouldn't be upset. steve: of course, the president has said many times when i was running for president they got that one wrong. if you remember meanwhile quinnipiac had a poll and the answer -- the question was whether or not you think congress should start the impeachment process, 33 pierce of those said yes, start the process. 61 percent said no. 6 percent said they did not know. what's interesting about this, when you look at the people to said yes, 2% were republicans. only 2%. 62% were democrats. and the independents, the people who pick the

president? 35 percent said yes. that's not enough. brian: i believe and i know you are too busy to watch during the day these impeachment hearings that come out and rantings and ravens come in video to a 434 page book. i think the people are fed up. the people convinced the president sun worthy are there. the people that think it is a witch-hunt are here. and the people in the middle have tuned it out. steve: talk to the people who are here in our live studio audience today. who would like to talk a little bit about what you are seeing on television. young man in the center, go ahead and stand up. what's your name? >> [inaudible] steve: what do you think what congress is doing? nancy pelosi she has a number of members on the political left who would like to see impeachment. >> yeah. i think the mueller report came out and findings there is no collusion. the democrats collusion the mueller report clearly says they didn't.

steve: the problem is the democrats say look, he tried to obstruct justifiable. >> well, i think the findings were that he didn't. and they continue this idea that he did is just wasting time. steve: well, i think, thank you very much. good answer. the border can tell you dhs facilities are overflowing, that our resources are stretched thin. ainsley: border patrol agents are the last line of defense. they risk their lives every day to keep americans safe and allow americans to prosper. steve: brandon judd has spent his 22 year career working alongside the brave men and women of law enforcement. he joins us live now. [applause] steve: brandon, how much frustration is there the men and women of border patrol when they turn on the television and see the people in washington not helping them out? >> it gets extremely frustrating because we know that the american public, these people want the border secure. we want to secure the border for these people because we want the safety. every single time that i have ever spoken with president trump, it's very clear that he wants to secure the border. brian: that's why you endorse him. >> yes. because he wants the safety of these people here today. and we want to secure the border. but when we don't get the help that we need, especially when it comes down to the funding, when

you have got the -- when you have got the hard left and the hard right that are constantly fighting back and forth, that creates that divide where we can't get anything done. brian: so when a guy dies from the flu they want to blame border patrol. when people are overcrowded or they come over or hurt, they want to blame border patrol. they don't have the facilities to house them. yesterday democrats could not break impasse over funding the crisis which they refused to act on. you are just talking about humanitarian aid. you are not talking about wall or daca or anything controversial. what is the problem? >> it comes down to politics. they want to get reelected. they don't care about what's best for the country as a whole. brian: how would they get somebody reelect. that's not in america's interest. >> it's about district. it's strictly about districts. if i'm a congressman in a district that wants open borders that wants illegal aliens, then they are going to pander to that. they care more about their re-election than they care about the country as a

whole. ainsley: they need to wake up. the voter know what's happening. they are not stupid. they see there is a crisis and a problem. the president has tweeted he says mexico is doing more to help than congress. it should not be that way. these are our lawmakers, we elected them to do something, right? [applause] ainsley: mexico is getting involved. and they are stopping the people from crossing over their southern border finally. they are acting. are you seeing a difference in the numbers? because the message in central america was you better go because they are going to change the laws, they are going to figure this out. that's why all of them are flooding our southern border. >> that pressure that the president put on mexico, that tariff threat did exactly what it needed to do. mexico is now doing what-eye they are stepping up to the plate and becoming true partners in border security. what we have seen is less people working their way up through mexico right now already. so it's already paying dividends. steve: the reason mexico is cracking down now and this is what is understood or inferred is if they don't crack down now, in 45 days or 90 days after last

friday, the united states can going to really insist on that safe third country business which mexico does not want. >> no, they don't. but that was the brilliance of what president trump did is he -- all he did was said okay, i'm going to take the tariffs back right now. but they are still on the table. in 90 days from now if you don't do what you need to do i'm going to put the tariffs right back on. he is putting the pressure on to make them a third safe country. brian: i'm afraid that the border patrol is so frustrated that they might walk off. i'm telling you, they are so over the and being egg ignored i have had it? >> i spent 30 days processing in texas. yes the border patrol agents are sick and tired of the constant political divide. we need more people like cuellar and chip -- make this happen. ainsley: i know this is not what you signed up for but

[cheers and applause] steve: all right. our next discussion, you know, many democrats are looking to paye the so-called pathway to universal health coverage backing policies like medicare for all.

ainsley: how would free healthcare truly affect our doctors and you the patient? brian: stand back, i'm going to introduce dr. siegel. he is our medical contributor dr. siegel. medicare for all. we understand where people's heart is. they want to give medical coverage for everybody. but this is not reality, is it? >> not only that it's not really medicare. by the time you are done with it, you are looking at a system that's somewhere between medicare and medicaid number one. number two, you lose all the choice that you have under the current employer based healthcare system, which is covering over 170 million people. they are not going. brian: you can't have both? you can't have private and you can't have medicare for all. >> not under these plans you can't. ainsley: you can't choose your doctor. >> you can't choose your health insurance plan and doctor and where you go for care. you are dealing with narrow networks. they will muscle everybody in. ainsley: the government could send you to the worst hospital, the one thats hat worst rating and have you no choice. >> absolutely. not only that doctors will be paid about 40% less. hospitals currently make 85

cents on the dollar with medicare. all of the research that goes on in americans, all of me. all supporting it. you take that away and you end up with less research, less innovation, less new drugs. bright eyed medical students graduating. steve: let's see the hands here in the studio audience, bernie sanders has suggested that people would be willing to pay more in taxes for medicare for all. let me see the hands of the people okay nobody on that side. how about the other side? how many people would pay more for taxes for medicare for all? i don't see a single hand. >> here is, why steve. sounds great. 58% support it. sounds great. what's it going to cost? $30 trillion over 10 years. the hands go down. will you be able to have access to your physician or the healthcare you need? hands go down when you hear that in canada, which is single payer you have to wait several weeks for mri,

ct scan or hip replacement or to see a specialist. who wants to wait several weeks to see a specialist. brian: you talk to the brits they have a different opinion on bernie sanders. because he thinks they have it made. you can't have obamacare and medicare for all. do the democrats realize that while lauding obamacare they talk about medicare for all. that's where the candidates are going to divide by the way. >> that's where they can't have it both ways. i think they are going to realize. i think it's a campaign slogan, brian. i don't think it's ever going to happen. they will self-destruct by getting behind it. i can't believe they are making it a campaign issue. and so unpopular. brian: canada ihealthcare is amt people's. >> raise your hands if you want to destroy healthcare and replace it with something that will not work? steve: i don't see any hands. ainsley: my mother had a stroke. you helped me through that. if she had gone to any other hospital in our hometown, she went to the trauma hospital.

if the government said you have to go to that hospital and not this one she would not have made it. the one doctor who would perform the surgery on her brain to remove the clot was at that one hospital and he happened to be on call that night. if she had went to that one i would be motherless. if something happened to my daughter i want her at the best hospital and best doctors. i don't want the government telling me where she has to go. [cheers and applause] steve: where is kevin? >> healthcare for all. let the market drive down healthcare costs by perhaps having hospitals and healthcare centers publish price list so we could see who not necessarily the cheaper but better prices are much like the government might have putt putt ingredients on the food supply. brian: i heard that's coming. >> that is coming, he is right. [applause] >> that's a great point. steve: then people can shop around.

>> it's starting to happen. trump administration has been emphasizing price transparency with prescription drugs among health providers. your mri or echo could be a lot more up town than downtown. paying more out of pocket for the one more expensive. if we knew what we were paying they would have to compete and prices would come down. brian: i would love to be able to have a coupon for an ear infection. 25% off. come on, doctor, i hope can you honor. this maybe i will choose that company. ainsley: like the lay sick surgery. second eye free. >> they you could hide behind you not knowing the price. then you get hit with secret bills you weren't expecting. another proposal to get rid of that. steve: it's not like you call up and say how much for a strep throat. that's just not how much it works. karen is over on this side. karen, where are you? you had a comment about healthcare right now. >> i do. i think it's a privilege. i don't think it's a right. my parents worked in this country for many, many years

and my mother just finely retired a couple years ago and she, you know, they paid in to the system with taxes. i pay my taxes. i know how much, you know, deducted from my taxes for healthcare and all of that and i just don't agree that people come here get it for free or want it for free. brian: come here illegally by the way. california gives it for free. [applause] >> california is going to try to cover illegals with healthcare and not necessarily provide for their own people meanwhile we are seeing rats on the street with homeless people in california. it's a complete mess. so to karen's point, here is where i would say healthcare is a right. you have the right to go to an emergency room if you are sing or have a heart attack and get taken care of. guess. what the safety net. guess what? that's already the case in the united states. we have to take care of you. if you have an emergency. that's a right. it's not a right to have your lay sick surgery done. it's not.

brian: elective. >> that's elective. i think that's a misnomer. also we have clinics in the united states that serve 22 million people paid for by the federal government. that's the safety net. so, it's a complete misnomer and fraudulent to go around saying you have a right to, you know get your blood pressure check here or to get your eye drops here. brian: ultimately, it's going to be a bipartisan solution because no matter who is in power is going to keep flipping the other person's program out. both sides have got to get together. almost every person in the country cares about healthcare. steve: yesterday mitt romney announced he has a replacement for obamacare he will announce it shortly. receive steve medicare for all has no traction. it's a complete waste. brian: coming up straight ahead, thank you very much, dr. siegel. bernie sanders just unveiled his -- [cheers and applause] >> defending democratic socialism. we will ask our audience what they think about that

gave a speech, you know, he is the democratic socialist. he came out with a speech to defend his stance, you know, is he a so-called democratic socialist, medicare for all, free college, $15 an hour minimum wage, things like that. listen to him, here he is yesterday in his own words. >> we must recognize that in the 21st century, in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, economic rights are human rights. that is what i mean by democratic socialism. [cheers and applause] that is the difference between donald trump and me. he believes in corporate socialism for the rich and powerful. i believe in a democratic socialism that works for the working families of this country. [cheers and applause] brian: wide shot. ainsley: that burns my dad

up. steve: earns? ainsley: works three jobs and he put himself through college and his goal was to put all three of us through college. that last day when my brother graduated we all celebrated we love him so much. he worked so hard. i cannot imagine if the government came in and said wayne, you worked very hard but give me half of that money because someone else who is sleeping in their bed all day and not working hard is going to take your money. brian: right now 45% of most of our paychecks go to the government anyway and they want to take more of it. meanwhile the good news is for people who don't think this country stray socialist nation it seems like america is sobering up. bernie sanders is steadily dropping in all the polls. brian: so candid i think i'm going to get me a beer. that seemed to zoom her up in the polls. ainsley: now she is offering you can enter to win a beer

with her. brian: right, fantastic. steve: well, that would be very social. [laughter] there is a new poll out. is socialism compatible or not compatible with american values? about 30 percent said yes, it's compatible as you can see there. about 60 percent said not compatible. 7 percent said it depends. 7% says don't know what you are talking about. ainsley: american values. what are our values. i don't think socialism is compatible. i think of america i think of capitalism. steve: it is for whatever it is right there. ainsley: 29%? brian: can you guys see the prompt tier out there what does it say to do? >> brian walks to the audience. brian: time for me to find out what's going on. where is nate? nate, i want to find out if you believe that socialism is has a place in this country. keep in mind social security we are paying into, there are social aspects if there is disability paid into. that's a social program.

do you think socialism can work here. >> i do not think socialism can work. the only way society works in general is for us to be a capitalist society. the truth is if you go to work every single day you should earn the wage you merit from that work. just like if you are commissioned based salesman like i am myself. i'm paid based on merit. if i work hard i get paid more money. why why go to work and work hard every single day if i knew my pay was going to be the same as somebody else that wants to sit on the couch and do nothing. i think the problem we have in america today is our schools and universities and colleges no longer teacher the true meaning to capitalism and what it actually means. brian: right. >> unfortunately we are taught by a left wing agendas. [applause] >> when our kids get out of college they have a tremendous amount of debt. of course these polls are taken and taken on college campuses and have you $200,000 in college debt and bernie sanders is out there saying let's forgive all the college debt. people are going to stand up and say yes i want that to be forgiven because they haven't yet become the people that are going to pay for that. everything has a cost. brian: someone walks up to you in life and says i would

like to pay off your car loan and mortgage you would say yes. have you candidates saying i would like to pay off student debt. there is a college too expensive. they say here is a parent loan. here is a student loan i have got to do it because i believe in my kid. next thing you know your kid is $100,000 in debt and doesn't have a job yet. you were too good though. where is charles? >> back row. brian: all right. charles. you can stand up. i will try not to get in front of you. where do you stand up. we do have somewhat of a safety net in this country. >> that's fine and understandable. if you look at history, socialism has failed everywhere it's tried. >> that's right. >> they keep talking about everything is going to be free. nothing is free. somebody is going to have to pay for it. brian: right. do you know what the thing is, they say today in our country the word capitalism has such negativity. the real thing is called free market against a fixed market. against a government run

market. do you think that's an adequate comparison? >> absolutely. and i think the 2020 election is going to be a big debate on capitalism vs. socialism. brian: some candidates are realizing that governor hickenlooper says if we run on socialism we will lose. >> i hope they do. [applause] brian: what i wants you to do is listen to bernie sanders. yesterday, he had something fascinating to say. he said america would be willing to pay more taxes. listen. >> i suspect that a lot of people in this country would be delighted to pay more in taxes if they had -- if they had comprehensive healthcare as a human right. when their kids have educational opportunities without out-of-pocket expenses, when they have healthcare as a human right, when they have affordable housing. when they have decent retirement, security. i think most americans will understand that that is a good deal. brian: all right. so will all of americans want to pay more taxes and be delighted to do so?

[applause] steve: go back over to the couch. excellent talking. brian: steve, let's talk a little bit of scandal too. that is the investigation that john durham is running after michael horowitz gets done with inspector general report. john durham u.s. attorney is going full speed ahead. he has been appointed by william barr. one of the things he wants to do is find out what led to the russia investigation. if nothing happened that was unsavory that needs to be correct sod be be it. he wants to get answers. he has worked for democratic administrations and been very effective. his first target is the cia. ainsley: we are learning now that the doj is going to interview two cia officers. one senior intelligence. cia analyst. both of them were involved

in the agency's work on understanding the russia campaign to sabotage the election. steve: that's right. this is a big story as you can see, that's the headline in the "new york times." there it is. the number one story right there. congressman john ratcliffe, republican from texas said there are a lot of questions that the cia should answer because it all goes back to the starting of the collusion investigation. here's the congressman yesterday. >> a lot of the questions that relate to the origins of this go to the cia. there is a lot that attorney general barr, i think, has said doesn't jive with respect to that and that's why john durham is looking at the issues that the democrats aren't willing to look at. we all waited for two years for bob mueller to come out and say no collusion no, conspiracy by donald trump. but you wouldn't have known that in the hearing today. the democrats repeatedly said there was collusion. there was conspiracy. but somehow bob mueller and his of nearly 60 fbi

investigators and fbi agents somehow just missed it. steve: i just inventinged the word. i combined co-collusion with russia to come up with collusia. brian: which is a very good vacation spot. ainsley: next to fallujah. brian: not quite as nice. full cooperation. my sense is men and women in the field offices and more of the guys that used to run things like john brennan and james clapper. those are the ones with all the answers and most of the questions. steve: right. brian: one thing mr. ratcliff was taking. devin nunes of the intelligence committee. two fbi agents there what amazed him was that a lot of people didn't pay attention. two retired fbi agents at the witness table who had no problem with the way peter strzok and lisa page acted. they acted like they were just serving their country.
