dan: the most disturbing thing about this story is -- i'm sure i don't know you personally, i would take this to the bank and cash that check, that during your time in the cia, you managed to do your job as a patriot without letting your personal politics get involved and yet your personal politics kept from you contributing to this intel conference. how does that make you feel? >> well, you are exactly right. i will take it even a step further. i don't know what the personal politics were of my colleagues that we were shoulder to shoulder and stopping al qaeda from trying to conduct another attack on our homeland, preventing russian spies from trying to steal our secrets and putting nuclear weapons proliferators out of business. this is one more data point in a trend where people are uncomfortable or unwilling to engage with people who disagree with them. i think in the competition of idea is what helps you separate fact from fiction. the only way to solve big things in this country is if we actually work together.

and when it comes to things like national security and cyber security, this is even more important. the president had to send 1,000 more troops to the middle east in order to deal with iran. you are going to likely see an increase of cyber attacks from the iranians on us and our allies. the only way to be able to defend ourselves is if the public sector, the private sector, academia, the research community all ultimately work together. and so, you know, i was looking forward to delivering my remarks on cyber security. i was going to keep it to cyber security and talk about how we had to cooperate together. dan: congressman, the real stain on this event here is i couldn't personally looking at a tv without any politics. without politics getting involved. think of a finer keynote speaker than a man like yourself. served in the cia. in congress. you have been a leader on foreign policy issues and spoken out on this. it's really the people in this conference, the attendees that suffer it. really was like cutting off your nose to spite your

harm that would come from having anyone express a different opinion on campus. steve: i went to college in the 1970s. nothing like ever that happened at my university. where did this all come. >> from even the left used to you tab pro-free speech left. i think of the aclu defended the rights of horrible people to march even recently. actually the aclu is kind of afraid of these young people because they are relaxing from their ironclad commitments to free speech. the older kind of free speech left. you go back to berkeley they were leading a free speech movement alongside conservatives. now it's a different left that again safety takes paramount over freedom of expression. they don't think freedom of expression helps their goals. dan: one of the interesting parts of your book and something i had to come to terms with a long time ago, it's not that they want to win an ideological back and forth dialogue or average. ment some on the left on college campuses want to crush you and stop from you speaking and want some kind of reckoning and revenge. it goes back to where we think liberals are people

of the state of virginia sued and the supreme court said one house can't sue. it really means nothing. only both houses can sue. they threw the case out. bottom line a win for the democrats in state legislative districts. i have to tell you, courts are reluctant to get involved in redistricting. it is essentially a legislative function. and they only want to get involved in the legislature is way out of line, like say my legislative district in new jersey where i live along the delaware river and my congressman lives along the hudson river. it's the same legislative district. okay. but what has me steamed yesterday and we were talking about this during the break is the double jeopardy decision. the whole history of the constitution is a reaction to the excesses of british colonial rule. and one of those excesses was repeatedly trying someone until they got the verdict they want and the punishment they want. steve: only get tried one time. >> correct. that's why we have a clause in the fifth amendment that

orlando where president trump officially is going to kick off his 2020 campaign. that happens later today but are democrats seeing the same enthusiasm on the other side? fox news contributor, former obama economic advisor robert wolf met with joe biden last night. he joins us to weigh in. hey, robert, great to see you. >> great to be here. ainsley: what did joe biden say to you? >> it was overwhelmingly positive event for joe. i think he feels really good. one he always had tough times raising money. he is raising a decent amount of money which will allow him to run his campaign. what my opinion is he comes across as a real guy that cares about people. when he talks about american struggles, kitchen table issues everyone is talking about. ainsley: what are the struggles he was talking about? >> spoke last night a lot about health care. obviously what his son went through. what he is seeing on the road. he was the number one surrogate for midterms at our elections.

when he goes out there, to connect with the people as good as anyone in the country. ainsley: crowds really matter. >> yes. ainsley: when you look at a crowd lining up out there, spending two days camping out to see president trump with his re-election campaign what goes through your mind? >> there is no question, call it 35% of this country that are fully in for the president trump. they will stay in lines. they remind me of, you know, obama's type of lines. people will want to see the president. he is a president of the united states and those people who are staunch supporters when they have the chance to meet him, they will meet him. listen, i know they're saying he is launching his campaign tonight in orlando, but he has been launching it since he was elected. it always has been rallying -- >> is biden scared to go up against him? >> biden has to get through a primary. clearly last night, i would say, that i don't like to say this lightly but his dislike for the president is just real. i think he feels that the president is disrespecting the

steve: quick tuesday morning headlines. first up a federal judge declared a mistrial on 15 federal charges against a militant during the deadly benghazi attack. they found him guilty of providing support for terrorists and destroying post property but the jury could not reach a decision on remain charges including murder. a major bombshell in the hillary clinton email investigation. the u.s. department of state finding 30 security incidents

abbott one or the abbott two? this is common sense. steve: common sense. can you explain to the folks watching from other parts of the country where they look at washington, governor, and nothing is getting done, nobody is passing any bills, how were you able to get through the legislature and sign 927 bills? >> well there was so much done. i credit the leadership we have in the capitol with the lieutenant governor and speaker, all members of the house and senate. you're talking about some of the fun bills we signed. more important than this, we signed legislation that actually cut property taxes in texas, that reformed our school finance system, that paid our teachers more, and addressed mental health. we did so much in just 140 days. you know in texas we only meet every other year for 140 days. we're working to change that. we want to meet two days every 140 years. steve: that would be great. ainsley: folks in texas talk what you have done with

chick-fil-a, lemonade stands. i read about you're cutting property taxes there. i lived in texas, we didn't have to pay state taxes, but property taxes were astronomical. that is awesome. tell me more about that. >> listen, property taxes have been going through the roof. we did two things to reduce property taxes. we took five billion dollars of money coming into the state of texas to buy down the property tax rates and then we put a limit on the ability of taxes authorities to be able to raise your property taxes in the future this will be both immediate and lasting property taxes in texas that help our businesses, especially our small businesses as well as our homeowners. dan: i want to congratulate you first. i think the single worst technological development in human history is the red light camera which you banned in texas. we create more traffic in texas as people move to texas to get away from red light cameras.

turned pro in 2007, the pga in 2009. this weekend at the u.s. open he won the big inchill laud today, the u.s. open, first major, six pros, but that putt right there for birdie put him in the history books. dan: interesting note. i read that note he is masher. he likes long game. he still won with another obstacle he overcame. ainsley: what we were noticing about him. he is humble, proud, holding that trophy. says he hasn't gotten away from him. steve: nobody will pry it away from him. ainsley: right. at the same time he was proud of that, it represented hard work. he is not 20. he is 35. it has taken him a while. he has been playing since he could walk. taken him so much to get here. wonderful moment for him. at same time he was very humble. hasn't forgotten kansas, his parents. his wife had a miscarriage. they had a son. now she is pregnant on bed rest, pregnant on bed rest with
