something. jillian: president trump reaching denuclearization talks with north korea. rob: comes after the president's historic steps into hermit kingdom. jillian: what does this say to president trump's approach to foreign policy? jim hanson, jim, as always, thank you for your time, what do you make of the news that came about over the weekend, we saw it there with our own eyes, president trump the first u.s. sitting president to step into north korea? >> he's not afraid to do things differently, you know, you can look at the state of negotiations over decades with kim jong un and his dad and his grandfather and nobody has gotten anywhere u so president trump was willing to take a risk, take a personal risk and try to shake things up, that's part of his style, he does not mind injecting a little new techniques, new tactics into

stuck foreign policy negotiations and that gives him opportunities that other leaders do not have. rob: they say it's all for the cameras, what do you say? >> you have to start somewhere. at this point kim jong un is not shooting missiles over japan, not conducting nuclear tests and we are talking, last time i checked that was things that democrats used to say were good. trying to undermine the president while he's trying to keep us safe from a madman with nuclear weapons. jillian: denuclearization obviously still the goal here that the president is trying to accomplish, how crucial are the next steps and what do you think they are? >> i think the next steps will have the experts, the people who do this professionally and have been for a long time, go ahead and get together and dig into the details and say what is the first thing we can do. we need something tangible from

the more traditional establishment in the democratic party gravitated towards her as well, so with this -- with impressive fundraising she's put forth, performance in the debate, she has certainly volted to the top 2 or 3 candidates, definitely top 3 and i think she only goes up from here, i'm sure the team wants as many debates as possible to get her in front of the american people. jillian: will that be enough to surpass elizabeth warren, joe biden, even bernie sanders, time will tell, lauren, do you think, though, if it were even today come down to kamala harris and president trump how -- what are her chances? >> you know, i think that any democrat is going to have a hard time debating president trump because he's very good at changing the narrative and controlling the conversation away that's favorable to him. that what was interesting kamala's debate with joe biden during last round, she was able

to kind of twist and make sure to make points in a way that was effective and probably gave democrats the greatest hope of what they a imagine with president trump would look like in a way to take back the conversation and move it back towards policies that are favorable to him, i just don't know that she will gain steam with the public as a whole especially given the voters that president trump is going to be targeting, she doesn't have the same appeal, so she wouldn't be as appealing assay joe biden going up against president trump when we are talking about the small sliver of american populist that will be undecided and deciding the election. jillian: this is on saturday. >> i think she was given too much credit for what she did, wasn't that outstanding and i think that probably he was hit harder than he should have hit, i thought he was hit harter. jillian: okay, that's what president trump had to say, kevin, do you think her going after joe biden was the right

move? >> well, absolutely for her because she had to do something to break out, when you're in a debate with 10 people as she was, you've got to do something to gain attention and she did that, she did that in several different ways and she really commanded the stage, i think that you're seeing the gop starting to take notice. you played the clip of lindsey graham talking about she's got game, he would know, he's the chair of judiciary committee and the senate and he's watch her star rise because she made name of herself with the tough questions she lobbied at various members to have administration, various officials, i think she actually would be good for donald trump, she's prepared, former prosecutor and she would be able to stay on script during debates and hit him hard in sort of his weaker areas and may not be asas for him to attack her because she has little bit less baggage, she hasn't been around

as long as joe biden or hillary clinton, fresh face, may cause him problems on the debate stage, i for one would love to see it, i think it would be a great match-up. jillian: lauren, you have to give her credit because it was expected that a lot of candidates would go after president trump and she took it upon herself, look, i need to stand out as kevin just said she made herself stand out in the race, there's a lot of people right now. >> yeah, absolutely, what's important is that she's got to get through the primary, i mean, we are talking about a much-up with president trump i'm not sure she can get through a primary in this current democratic party, she's already getting attacked in the liberal media for having right wing, quote, unquote, background, she's got to go hard in the debates, we still have 10, 11 more to go, 10 more, who knows, there's so many. i think that she's got a long road ahead of her so i wouldn't count this bump and say that this is done yet. jillian: okay, lauren and kevin, thank you for joining us.

serving, everything you've done for the country, now you want to serve washington, tell us why. >> well, good morning, thank you for having me on this morning, it's quite an honor to be here. hey, we have a crisis in leadership in washington, d.c., our leaders are failing us in congress, we can see it in every problem that we have, they have failed to develop solutions, they are not supporting our president the way he needs to be supported in the economy, national security and the health and welfare of americans and it's time for change. we are out of time, the time is now and we must move forward and get leaders in there that have proven effective leadership skills that can get the job done and solve problems. rob: well, sir, you have incredible story but the woman that you're going up is big name in new hampshire, she's a former governor, two-term senator at this point, what is your strategy to win against somebody who is pretty popular in that state?

>> well, my strategy is to win, hey, i'm born and raised in new hampshire, i'm a native, i know new hampshire, i'm going to have a grassroots campaign, i'm going the speak to the people, i can speak to them, they know me as a native son and we are going to move forward and i am going to get their support and i will be the next senator, big names are what is the problem, we have political machines, senator has one of the biggest political machines an those machines are failing us, they are self-serving and they are not getting the job done. jillian: sir, i understand that you served 36 years in army, 10 tours in afghanistan, tell us how that's going help you in the battle that you're currently running now. >> well, thank you for that question and it was an honor to serve the military for the length of time that i did, remember, i joined the army as a private and got out as a

general. i'm not saying that to brag, the point that i want to make is, is that's an example of american dream going from private to general, it's not common in the military but it's something that we need to bring back to americans particularly in new hampshire, we need hope, we need leaders that are going to bring hope and i think what i learned in the military is determination is values, is servant leadership, personal responsibility and a dedication to core values by putting service before self and people before the mission and in this case politics. rob: new hampshire is almost a toss-up state at this point, i think hillary won by like 1 point in the last election, where do you stand politically, right wing, center right, where do you stand on immigration and health care and stuff like that? >> well, the economy national security and anything that has to do with the health and welfare of americans, you can find that i will have

conservative values but i'm concerned about affordable healthcare, affordable education, the addiction crisis, mental health, supporting our veterans, all those issues have weakened our community and washington, d.c. and leaders there have nothing to consolidate power in washington, d.c. and have done nothing to support the communities where the problems lie and the solutions lie and the people lie that can get that done, i will also be supporting governor sonono, doing great work and i think we will be able to work together, we will find common ground, i will find common ground in the senate and we will move this country forward. jillian: okay, retired general, thank you so much for your time, we appreciate it. >> you're very welcome, i'd like to just say happy fourth of july and prayers to service members an their families. ill jillian: absolutely. rob: thank you for your service.
