the governor had to say in arizona, words cannot express my disappointment at this terrible decision. i'm embarrassed for nike and he went on to say nike made its decision and we are making hours. i ordered the authority to withdraw all financial incentive dollars under their discretion the state was providing for the company to locate here. not only did they lose money but 500 jobs this was going to provide. what are your thoughts? >> a really great precedent. there is job loss but he is saying if you are an american company and we are going to offer tax incentive we will take that away if you are not going to support america. heather: the betsy ross flag from 1776. do you think it is racist?
1:36 am
>> what is important is it doesn't matter what is racist or not. what matters is the people who were around when the flag was designed, the black people who were around didn't have any say so. today they have a say so. we have a social atmosphere, colin kaepernick took the stand and nike knows a lot of it sales go to people of color communities and nike made a corporate decision. the governor is an idiot. he has not made a good decision. the governor will be on the wrong side just like the state of arizona was with the mlk holiday. i don't see this being a problem. heather: who does it offend? don't mean to cut you off but who does it offend? i know at least one organization last night, i tried to do some research as well, trying to say
1:37 am
the flag was tied to white nationalist groups. there were two incidents, one involving high school kids, 9/11 celebration, who had this flag, the betsy ross flag and a trump flag so the principle of the school after receiving complaints put them together and said they were racist and made people uncomfortable. there was a second incident, a gentleman or man who was attached to a white supremacist group had a betsy ross flag in his home. those are the two incidents. >> i think it offends people because when the flag was signed, this was not the united states flag with 50 states, this is the precolonial flag. when this flag was flown black people, the ones who are offended mostly by this, i don't find much event by it but black people weren't $0.03 human beings in the constitution.
1:38 am
i would say it offends a huge population particularly american population and nike knows that. heather: i want to get don in here. as a pattern what do you think of the controversy? >> one thing i will say, anthony brought the point about the flag at the time it was created. there were 18 united states flags from the betsy ross flag to the end of the civil war. are all 18 of those flags offensive? racist? there were 27 flags before the civil rights movement. are they offensive? people who served under that flag, a lot of people with diversity of color who fight for that flag. if it offends you look at the rights you have around you and everything you have to be thankful for. he hasn't played football in three years, he felt he needs a little attention and that is what this is about.
1:39 am
heather: did this give those organizations and groups who take these symbols and twist the meaning of them? does it give them more power? >> it gives them more power and tries to rewrite history. this is the first version of the flag we can't change that. should we get rid of the flag entirely? nike could have done market research on their own. why are they were lying on colin kaepernick to tell them this is expensive. nike didn't know this. heather: as we bring up the statements, why they made this decision. final word from you. >> i respect john, but i don't think you fought for that flag and i don't think your service was for that flag.
