tv   The Ingraham Angle  FOX News  July 3, 2019 7:00pm-8:00pm PDT

7:00 pm
safe independence day. remember to watch the festivities with a, d.c. on the fox news channel, 6:30 p.m. eastern. and tammy bruce is in for laura tonight. t"the ingraham angle." tammy, i'm throwing away my nike apparel. >> i don't blame you. you are doing a great be jo. 56 fabulous fourth of july, the most magnificent holiday ever. >> yes, it is, i love it. >> have a great night. i'm tammy bruce for laura ingraham, this is "the ingraham angle." final preparations under way at this hour for trump's salute to america as criticism mounts for the historic i understand evens day celebration. is it really warranted? kailee and chris are here to debate that us with us soon. the dhs and cvp fighting back after a new report calls on the administration to fix the overcrowding at those border detention facilities. a border patrol agent is here the respond with the real story behind those pictures.
7:01 pm
and new developments in the nike flag shoe backlash as greg mentioned. why does the company and collin kaepernick think the betsy ross flag is racist? not when barack obama proudly influence it at his inauguration. we're going to have a pretty hot debate. raymond arroyo breaks down president trump the tv producer. history under attack. more drama at "the view." surprise. all in week's "seen and unseen." but first, we're just hours away now from the fabulous president trump salute to america. really irjs ee honestly, the greatest country in the world. the white house sells the inaugural july 4 event in the nation's capital will celebrate everything that makes this country great. surprised they can do it in one day. the liberal media says trump has an ulterior motive. >> whales the message donald trump is trying to send rolling tanks down constitution avenue? it is a threat. i suspect that the threat is to his fellow americans.
7:02 pm
>> this is something that the president thought is bolstering himself up. looking like dictator from another nation. a time that forgot. >> we hope that we never see this spectacle of our military force being on display as a show of force to our own people. >> this must be the most insecure man i've ever seen. >> well, fox's david spunt is live on the national hall, moments away from the celebration takes place. what's going on. >> good evening. well, the mike checks were done about 15, 20 minutes ago. starting to turn off the lights today for tomorrow. but tomorrow this place is going to be absolutely packed. it's a little different behind me for the lincoln memorial. normally the celebration is on the u.s. capitol. those are bradley fighting vehicles. two here right now, but the m-1 abrams tanks are going to be brought in in the next few
7:03 pm
hours. we expect to see those tanks move to the lincoln memorial, on freight trains for a day or so. the fighting vehicles today were moved in front of the memorial. the abrams and bradleys will be stationary, not moving because of the impact on local roads. in 1991, the m-1 abrams rolled down the streets of d.c. to mark the end of the gulf war. . trump wanted a similar scene that, won't happen tomorrow. the cost, the white house hasn't made available, reports the department of the interior will allocate $2.5 million used for parks to cover this event. the fireworks donate aid cording to the department interior. president trump tweeting today, the continue of our great salute to america tomorrow will be very little compared to what i it is worth. not everyone agrees with that tweet. local d.c. officials are concerned about the infrastructure with those tanks. listen. >> and they're going to be
7:04 pm
there, he has to pay for it, the pentagon. [unintelligible] >> the pentagon will have about 5,000 tickets to give out to members of the military and their families to enjoy the celebrations tomorrow. those fireworks kick off a little bit after 9:00. interesting note, the f.a.a. is stopping all flights from reagan airport close by from 6:15 to 7:45. and 9:15 to 9:45 because of the fireworks. also want to point out the weather, know how it gets finicky in the summer, tomorrow unfortunately they are calling for tough weather. but those things could change. prepare, if you want to come down, tammy? >> david, thank you, fascinating, breaking news a democrat worrying about the budget. that in and of itself is fascinating. the celebration preparations
7:05 pm
continue, the criticism mounting, is it just about trump or something more? here now to analyze, joining me is the fabulous kailee mcanany, from the trump 2020 campaign, and chris hawn, host of the aggressive progressive potstca, formerly with chuck schumer. we'll forgive that. must have been a nervous night for the founders, everybody getting ready to make this declaration on the fourth of july. kailee, are the democrats just mad that they didn't think to have this fourth of july party first? or is there any kind of genuine reason why they're so upset? >> no, there's no reason. let's be clear what this is about. their hate for president trump is clouding their love of this country. salute to america. leave it to the left to be oppose to the salute to america. they won't stand for the national anthem, they're upset
7:06 pm
with a flag, american flag on a shoe, and now they can't stand the salute to america which is literally the title of this event as we celebrate our military. leave it to the left to be unpatriotic the day before and day of 4th of july. >> i have a feeling chris disagrees with you. chris, i'll get you in here he'll be wrong but go for it. >> i love america, and if i'm wrong about that, tammy, i don't want to be right. >> you made that up yourself. >> what i don't like is a president and hypocrites who defend him taking this event and politicizing it. giving free tickets to his biggest donors. and the rnc. that, i have a problem with. make that lincoln bedroom scandal look like the holiday freaking inn. this president politicizes everything. i'm not against him giving a speech on the fourth of july. i am gains man who will give a speech about himself on the fourth of july. if he talks about the founders,
7:07 pm
doesn't mention himself -- >> that's fake news. >> if he does, look, if he does a peach about america and is kind to the country, inclusive of everybody, great. if it's a standard stump speech shame on him and anyone who defends him. >> chris and kailee, what is fascinating, the fourth of july is a military and political event. it is the date when this country was founded. it was based on a violent military revolution. the establishment of a political entity. to guide and give people a future. kailee, how do you answer if there's an upsetness about this when it comes to how president trump handles it? >> i'll be waiting for chris' tweet when president trump gives a patriotic nonpartisan speech he says he's going to give. i will be waiting for the tweet saying great speech. >> okay. i'll be waiting for that speech. >> we know that easter egg roll tickets are given out by various political offices, that's what
7:08 pm
happens at the major events. i'm sure you were equally upset in 1996 when bill clinton as jeffrey pointed out, released a bald eagle and used the fourth of july to support his environmental agenda. i can't wait for that tweet tomorrow, celebrating america. >> good question, kailee. >> i'm sure, i'm waiting -- >> chris, will day -- >> were you upset about the lincoln bedroom? >> christopher, christopher, if president trump gives -- there's been times he's given some terrific speeches that have gotten across the board nonpartisan praise. if he delivers a fabulous speech tomorrow will you admit it? >> yes, i will. >> great. thank you. >> if he delivers a speech not about him. >> i will be monitoring your twitter feed. >> you can tweet at me. >> thank you both. one thing we know is president trump is president for a reason weeflt did not elect the invisible man.
7:09 pm
we elected a particular person for his particular point of view. >> he's particular all right. >> his particular passion. and the fact that he made some promises like when we talk about representing every one of the economy is doing that. i would suggest since this is a celebration for america, and the military, our troops, the people that make this nation possible, and all of us who live here and keep it going day-to-day, in the spirit of the fourth of july, happy 4ed of july to both of you. president trump represents all of us, he's working for all of us. >> thank you, happy 4th. >> take a listen to singer -- well, panel, you'll stay with us, don't think that kailee and chris are going anywhere. they are coming back o this independence day, several 2020 democrats will be celebrating in iowa, just seven months voters -- seven months, you guys -- voters will be casting the first votes in the presidential primary as they barnstorm across the hawkeye state to make their case, some
7:10 pm
creating their own fireworks. now this comes as several new polls show joe biden losing his lead as the frontrunner in the wake of the rather devastating first democratic debate. for all of the details, we go to fox news correspondent mark meredith live in washington. >> former vice president joe biden is back in iowa tonight. he has a busy few days ahead of him, making several stops across the hawkeye state. biden's campaign announced tonight its latest fundraising totals. the campaign says since it launched, it raised $21 million. we got a new poll out today, showing biden still in the lead among democrats but down a bit after miami. you can see right there, biden at 30%. bernie sanders 19%. right there, also, in third place, california senator kamala harris. third place at least in this poll right now. senator harris is also in iowa tonight, and she's launching a very direct attack against the
7:11 pm
president. here's what the sno had to say while rallying supporters. >> i have prted twrans-national -- tranls-national criminals. i know pridtors and we have a predator living in the white house. >> also blasting president trump over tomorrow's salute to america event that david was talking about. >> i don't think he understands this america's birthday not his birthday. he wants a military parade, think about the military families. and think about the fact that military parents that you are sending their sons and daughter to what might be war. >> tonight south bend mayor pete buttigieg is criticizing the president, he rolled out a new plan that he says will expand national service programs. >> we proper pose to immediately
7:12 pm
triple paid service opportunity. to bring them to 250,000 opportunities, targeted toward america gz high school graduates, community college, vocational students. >> the mayor's plan calls for expanding programs like the peace corps and creating new service opportunities to address climate change and mental health needs. >> thank you, mark. back with me thank goodness, kailee and chris. not that i was going to send chris to the cornfield or anything. >> i love corn, it's american, baby. >> right. now, look, with those kinds of speeches with what is going here, it is the fourth of july, kailee, we have got kamala harris calling the president of the united states a predator. now, some of the messaging is that we should be united. mayor pete's message, we need to be united. is there a legitimate political reason for that kind of rhetoric to be continued not just on this holiday but at any point, considering the divisions here,
7:13 pm
kailee? >> no. kamala harris is a fraud. it's ironic to hear her say i know predators. clearly not, there was a predator in her midst, her top staffer, settled a sexual harassment payout for $400,000. was only fired nearly two years later when the media found out about it. for knowing predators, she had one in her office that she chose to neglect. she's the one who's fraudulent. she wants to point fingers at joe biden, when she was an aggressive prosecutor who upheld wrong local convictions. she has a lot to answer for. she has four fingers pointing right back at her. >> a lot of this, chris, we want to talk about ideas. i don't like what mayor pete is suggesting, this is another massive government program costing billions of dollars. but, really, when talking about dollars, very quickly, chris, your thoughts on the new second quarter fundraising figures. a lot of money is coming in, just released for the 2020 democrats. biden is trailing buttigieg by
7:14 pm
$3.3 million. is that a surprise to you? does that indicate that he's in trouble? >> it's a little surprising, although i think buttigieg had a better handle on the online and twitter world of fund raising, which joe biden is just getting caught up. to i think it's a marathon not a sprint. joe biden is about to be passed, frankly. i don't know that the democratic party wants a nominee, about to turn 80, would turn 80 in the first year of the presidency. time they look for some one younger. with fresher ideas. i don't know biden or sanders are those people. you call anybody a socialist, doesn't matter. nominate the most conservative person, bullock from montana,
7:15 pm
call him a socialist. and it's going to get tired. [all talking at once] callie, you don't know how we pay for this or pay for that. >> the fact that you even have to wonder about when some one is going to be called a socialist indicates a problem. kailee, quickly -- >> you will call whoever we nominate a socialist. >> they will do it themselves. >> that's your plan. >> they'll do it themselves. chris hold on one second. hold on. kailee, talk about how much money the president has raised and he's raised a lot. doesn't match up with the democratic candidates what they're raising. many democratic candidates f you add up the money, there is a similar amount of money pouring in to that side. is that something that needs to be considered? i mean the president, the rnc raised money. so have the democrats collectively. what do you say?
7:16 pm
>> add in the dnc and you have a negative on the balance sheet, they're carrying a lot of debt. we're sitting comfortably on the $105 million, smart digitally, we know how advertising works. we have a data operation that is probably quantified close to a billion dollars. >> what do you have on hand? >> $100 million, what do you have on hand? >> no. >> we're confident with our money. >> he doesn't know how to run a campaign and he'll lose in 2020. >> he clearly does. do you remember november 8, 2016? >> let me remind both of you, hillary had a billion dollars and it didn't matter. it's not always money, right? it's about your ideas. both of you, thank you. happy fourth of july, thanks for joining me. up next the real story behind these pictures of the crisis at the border. the dhs and cvp fighting book critics calling them monsters. border patrol agent is they are
7:17 pm
set it straight.
7:18 pm
7:19 pm
>> the trump administration is fighting back in wake of the dhs watchdog report demanding changes at the busiest border sector. this is a crisis, there are not
7:20 pm
enough beds or resources. and instead of blaming the democrats who refuse to approve more funding and even have in fact voted against it, the media is calling trump and the agents monsters. >> frankly the cruelty is part of their policy, it's part of what they think will deter migrants from coming here. >> this is inhuman, frankly i think it's criminal. >> what this guy is doing is absolutely, i find, immoral. >> if he's torn apart the moral fabric of who we are. >> fox's casey sigel has new reaction from dallas. >> tamm tammy, good evening. this 15-page report from the inspeak for general's office follows surprise visits that were made a couple of weeks ago to the detention holding facilities in the rio grande valley of south texas. photos were included in the government report, showing
7:21 pm
people packed into cells and makeshift pens. would be man holding a sign that said "help, 40 days here." agents describe it as a ticking time bomb. that is according to the wording from this report. inspectors deemed it dangerous and call for immediate action. reading from part of the report, quoting, we are concerned that overcrowding and prolonged detention represent an immediate risk to the health and safety of dhs agents and officers, and to those detained. meantime, dhs responding to the report citing acute conditions seen across the southwest border. and calling for more action by lawmakers. however, our challenge is that we have so many people that we're apprehending, for which we weren't designed to hold these people. time in custody is longer, we can't hand them over to i.c.e. and health and human services. >> growing number of protests
7:22 pm
seen across the u.s. calling for detention centers to be closed and families reunited. >> the intensity has grown on the heels of that private facebook group that was exposed this week. a social media group for border patrol employees past and present. some of the posts contained vulgar and racist comments about the migrants. today the acting dhs secretary responding on twitter. quote, i have directed an immediate investigation and as the u.s. b.p. chief has made clear, any employee found to have compromised the public's trust in our law enforcement mission will be held accountable. they do not represent the men and women of the border patrol or dhs. also, democratic lawmakers say they plan on launching investigations of their own, not just into the facebook group but
7:23 pm
also into the conditions at the detention centers. tammy? >> all right, casey, thank you for that. while the border cries ibs worsens, corey booker unveiled his big new open borders idea. he wants to virtually eliminate, his words, the detention centers holding illegals who cross our border. this is an actual proposal from some one who wants to be your president. where would they go? the senator hasn't thought through his plan yet. >> where will those asylum seekers go in those holding facilities are gone? >> i appreciate that, and somebody who's gone down to the border, met with asylum seekers, visited these awful private price onls shouldn't exist where there is a profit motive, they lobby the federal government for the policies that help them to create profit off of the imprisonment of others. we do not need on be doing what the trump administration has done. >> obama's dhs chief is sending
7:24 pm
out flairs to mr. booker and other 2020 candidates with radical immigration policy, saying that's tan ta 340u7b9 to saying that we have open borders. it's unworkable, unwise, dogs not have the support of the majority of the american people or congress f we had such a policy instead of 100,000 apprehension as month it will be multiples of that. joining me now is art, national border patrol council vice president and francisco hernandez, immigration attorney. francisco, all of us are appalled at what's going at the border. it is something that the president has been warning about, begging for money for. we also know that's infectious disease issues, it is the migrants themselves particular risk, on the trek through here, the experience trying to cross over here. this is something that's a all of our minds. if we're demanding there be work from congress to solve this problem.
7:25 pm
when it comes the mr. booker's proposal, for all of these people, 144,000 i think in may as an example that, crossed over, where should we put everyone that crosses illegally, if we have open borders and do away with the facilities? what do you propose? >> well, that's exactly the question. it's not what corey book procedure poses or i propose, it's what president trump is going propose. we're now 2 1/2 years into it and he was the messiah to solve the immigration issue. he ran and won, very largely, on the immigration issue. all he's doing is complaining about the democrats and republicans. >> he's xhaning for a reason, he's being obstructed. he has multiple proposals and they've been obstructed or they've been taken to court or voted against. >> obstruction, they haven't passed a single thing out of the senate. not one thing. >> that's exactly, i'm not saying it's not the just the democrats. i'm talking about the system and
7:26 pm
the establishment. i agree, it's not the president, he has his ideas. it's the establishment that likes this chaos. art, you're on the border, you're right there. >> the president promised that he could do it. >> but francisco, because he presumed that everyone wanted to do what was best for the country. you're right down there, you know what's going on, what is your take on the nature of these proposals and what you've been experiencing, what the border police have been experiencing daily? >> you know the national border, the boots on the ground, the agency themselves, the agents, president trump we've been asking for funding. we need funding. we have been talking about the crisis on the border. we've been explaining how difficult it is to work in these facilities. explaining the problems that we have in these facilities. we've been doing it for some time. let's just face it, a lot of politicians failed to act and not given us the budget that we need to fix these areas. that's the reality. >> i think we all agree that, right, so when we have this watchdog report saying we have
7:27 pm
to clean it up, shouldn't that be directedle, shouldn't we be directing that to the people in congress who have said it was not a crisis at all, then voted against the funding? >> there's too many individuals set on attacking the president, and not assuming responsibility for something else. i mean let's face it, every time something goes wrong, everyone wants to say the president isn't doing this. case in point, here we are asking individuals, what do you suggest is done if you release these people detained. and no one has any idea what to say, it's the president's problem. well it is his problem or it isn't his problem. >> if you touch it you own it. the president touched it and he owns it. >> francisco, but you don't even have a single idea of what to say. >> what does that mean? francisco, what does that even mean? touch it you own it. does that mean, gentlemen, just a minute, if you touch it you own it, francisco, then build
7:28 pm
the wall, make sure that we have a real steady legal immigration frame work where we can get these people in here, and secure them. remove criminal illegal aliens. so he's been trying to own it. but he's stopped. in the meantime, i don't know if we have time to go to some of these quotes if we do. i want you guys to hear. this we have heard about racist claims from democratic lawmakers. but listen to this. >> i think it is a moneymaking scheme. it is so sad. i said to one of the workers all white men, no hispanic men, no hispanic women, everyone returning this institution, are white men. i said to one of them, i said i feel so sorry for these kids. he said we treat them well. this place needs to be shut down. shut down. they're making profit, greed. >> so that was congresswoman
7:29 pm
frederica wilson, democrat out of florida. francisco, how are we profiting, you would argue, i would guess, you agree with her, we're profiting off illegal immigrants. >> no, i think we are failing to address the issue at the source. nobody is talking about why these folks have to risk their lives to come over here. and a wall isn't going to fix it. they're already at the border and they will find a way in. why don't we address it at the source country, hold the governments accountable for expelling people -- >> i agree. i like that you aren't agreeing that this is a profit mechanism, considering what it's doing economically to the country. >> it's not. she's pandering as much as corey booker was and as much as the president is. >> art, thank you for joining us, panel thank you both. coming up the president is enduring still withering criticism for his of all things the fourth of july celebration. but there is historical press denlts. and thomas jefferson's birthday
7:30 pm
celebration is cancelled in his own hometown. we'll look at why, coming up. raymond arroyo has the details, seen and unseen is next. criticism for his of all things petsmart's celebrating the fourth, with great deals like...
7:31 pm
buy 1 get 1 50% off dog and cat food,
7:32 pm
and holiday dog toys, apparel, beds and more! plus, treats members get 50% more points on all purchases! now that's a celebration... ...petsmart! "seen and unseen" segment where we expose the big cultural stories of the day. president trump dons his producer's hat. thomas jefferson is overthrown by his own darned hometown.
7:33 pm
why megan mccain might be leaving "the view." joining us is the guy you've been wait for, raymond arroyo, "new york times" best selling author, fox news contributor. the new book "will wilder, the amulet of power." hey, raymond, how are you. >> hi. tammy, great to be with you. >> tammy: nice to see you. what's going in the world? >> well, as you know the president is taking a lot of flack for the fourth of july celebration. i've been doing a little research. and that hardware that they're giving him so much trouble over, the hardware that his administration has brought to d.c., is actually tame by historical standards. people are saying he's acting like a dictator, a guest last night said he's compensating for something. i don't think any of that is true. for some context, this is fdr's inauguration in 1941. there's a row of tanks all the way down pennsylvania avenue. >> tammy: wow.
7:34 pm
>> we'll go to the shot of eisenhower's inaugural from '57. he had missiles rolling through the capital. then there's jfk's inaugural, more of the same. 1970, nixon hosted an honor america event with bob hope and jack benny, glenn campbell and kate smith, probably dragged poor kate smith away today, and 1986 when the in a statue of liberty reopened, lee i. iacoca helped raise $50 million, televised events, fireworks, and flyovers. none of this is new. it's part of trump's leadership style. he's a producer at heart. he likes to project images, and here he's trying to revive respect for the military, and a sense of patriotism. we need the unity. >> tammy: we do. what the president has brought forward is a renewed optimism.
7:35 pm
part of the nation, a lot of ways the left, they want to erase history, they want to say they support the troops. they want to erase the military strangely. and this reminds us of our power, and i find it heartening and optimistic and fun. where did, i guess, the left can't have any fun any more. >> i kind of like the idea that he's bringing the military and military families, they're going to have pride of place at this celebration. bringing them into what is normally, let's face it, a day when families get together and barbecue and set off fireworks. i think he's almost elevating july 4. that's smart. similar to what he's doing on july 17. he announced a rally, re-election rally on july 17, in north carolina. that's the same way robert mueller will be testifying on capitol hill. again, smart producing. >> tammy: smart producing. the ultimate troll. moving on here, too, from one of
7:36 pm
our favorite guys, there's news today that city council in charlottesville, thomas jefferson's hometown, voteded to do away with his birthday. what is that story about? >> this is just like that washington mural we've been talking about, they're taking the mural out of the san francisco high school. jefferson's birthday has been struck from his hometown's calendar because he owned slaves. they replaced the day with something called liberation and freedom day, tammy. that marks the moment when union troops took charlottesville in 1865. we have to be honest, most of the founding fathers owned slaves. that doesn't make it right, but to my mind it's only a matter of time before monty sell owe and mount vernon go the way of the kate smith statue in philly. they're going to strike everything. the sin is slavery is a horrible stain on america's conscience and its soul. but it's not all of our story.
7:37 pm
you have to have a forgiveness and the sense of the totality of the man's life. jefferson did incredible things, things most of us will never accomplish. the stain of slivery remains with him. his entire generation. you don't whitewash people because of their memory, this is a bad move, by charlottesville. it's his town. he founded the university, he was born there, the plantation was there. just tell the whole story, god and bad. >> tammy: we are a nation that has become a better nation and a people who have become a better people for a reason. deliberately. now, raymond, i have to get your reaction to the new report that megan mccain is considering leaving her gig at "the view," high profile there. does this come as a surprise to you? what's going on. >> you know, i'm not sure about this story. i think i know too much about "the view," like you. it's no secret that megan clashed with her on-air co-heshts, usually over
7:38 pm
politics. >> i'm wondering if can i say something. >> here's, well here's the deal. >> i want to make sure -- >> i let y'all talk and i said nothing. if you at one time say more we'll come back after the break. >> being the sacrificial republican every day, i'm just trying to -- >> here's the thing. >> don't feel bad, (bleep). >> let me just finish. part of your job is to listen to me. . >> sources say mccain feels like a caged animal. she may ximent "the view" when her contract comes up. two quick points. abc says they expect everybody to return to the show next season. this show needs heat. without mccain that's going to fall pretty flat. that said, does this feel like a contract ploy to you? >> tammy: it seems very close. if there are, you've noted they're in negotiations. sometimes this happens. and whatever it takes, i suppose, look, it's television. i did "the view" a number of
7:39 pm
years ago, it was very scripted. and i would find it hard to believe that they go out on to that stage without knowing where everyone is going to go and where they're going to land. but then, personal relationships, get developed or ruined. and that's what we don't know in the background. it's, you know, i want everyone to work, do well, i want all conversations to happen. and if this is negotiations then good luck to her. >> i agree. tammy, the drama and the rivalries and the backstabbing, is part of the drama that keeps "the view" engine running. that's what we're seeing. >> tammy: it is fabulous to be on with you, dear, great job, thank you so much. >> my pleasure and honor. >> tammy: happy fourth of july. coming up, liberals, are losing it. now that could of course just be an evergreen comment, over the betsy ross standards a certain liberal darling used that flag not once gut twice.
7:40 pm
stay tuned.
7:41 pm
my body is truly powerful. i have the power to lower my blood sugar and a1c. because i can still make my own insulin. and trulicity activates my body to release it like it's supposed to. trulicity is for people with type 2 diabetes. it's not insulin. i take it once a week. it starts acting in my body from the first dose. trulicity isn't for people with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. don't take trulicity if you're allergic to it, you or your family have medullary thyroid cancer,
7:42 pm
or have multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2. stop trulicity and call your doctor right away if you have an allergic reaction, a lump or swelling in your neck, or severe stomach pain. serious side effects may include pancreatitis. taking trulicity with a sulfonylurea or insulin increases low blood sugar risk. side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, belly pain and decreased appetite, which lead to dehydration and may worsen kidney problems. i have it within me to lower my a1c. ask your doctor about trulicity.
7:43 pm
>> tammy: this flag has been co-operated by some white supremacist. when you have the 13 colonies you had slavery in america at the time. >> the shoe, the flag, represented a period of time where with all due respect i was three-fifths of a human being. >> tammy: the left is clearly upset over the betsy ross flag they claim over and over is a symbol for white supremacists. where were they when it was flying in our nation's capital for this huge event. that looks familiar to you, that is president obama's first inauguration. or what about this one? oh, yeah, that's president obama's second inauguration. don't you just love the smell of hypocrisy, smells like burnt popcorn. joining me is horace cooper, co-chair of proj 2ek9 1. anthony tall, dem stratic

strategist and sorts lawyer. horace, on a scale of 1 to 10, how offended are you of any version of the american flag? >> does zero count as an option? >> tammy: that is an option. >> i love the american flag. this you come to my house you will see one flying out on my house right now. >> tammy: you know, on this obviously an issue for us on the fourth of july, but we're a nation that looks to the flag, we're a nation that was borne of an idea. for this protest it seems this is just like unlocking a door, that the idea of america itself is the thing that's under attack. would you agree? horace? >> absolutely i agree. i think that's exactly what is going here. either we're watching a fairly elaborate ritual or publicity stunt, or out and out hate being manifest. there isn't anyway to look at how some one can say they are
7:45 pm
offended by the idea that as we approach the fourth of july, the day that this american concept same into being, a concept that has impacted the planet for good. if you are offended by that, you either are part to hate or it's publicity stunt. i don't see any other option. >> tammy: so anthony, interesting point when it comes the publicity, you're also involved in sports and a lawyer. do you think that this is serious? because, the flag has been around for a while. president obama of course embraced all have the flags. what's your take on this, are these serious complaints or is it really look at how often we've been talking about nike, mr. kaepernick is back in the news again, what's your take on this from the sports perspective? >> well, from the sports perspective, as some one who worked with a lot of athletes, i can tell you that this is a new generation. this is a different generation.
7:46 pm
this generation is the generation of lebron. nike is a product of champion. lebron speaks out against injustice. his generation doesn't feel comfortable with anything that is attached to a history where black people were treated very badly or black people were in chains, or slaves. when horace makes these points, we all love the american flag. not that flag. but we all love the american flag that is currently our flag and we all like to salute it and respect it. this is a different generation. >> not collin kaepernick. >> nike is smart, driven by the market. the market is urban black people who buy these products. >> tammy: look, both, i know this a big conversation, i appreciate your points of view, but i have to quickly get your thoughts on what msnbc guest michael eric dyson said. >> why don't we wear a swastika for july 4? that makes a difference. the cross burning on some one's lawn, have a nike, you know,
7:47 pm
celebration of the cross. well, because those symbols are symbols of hate. so we can take p.c. culture back. this flag has been used by people who want to pummel african-americans, latinos, jews. why not pick a flag that's representative of everybody. >> tammy: that goes a bit far, it literally equating the american flag with a swastika. but we have to ask what flag then would be better suited to be representative of americans. is there some other idea or would you agree with mr. dyson or does that go too far? >> i respect the american flag and i think the flag that we have now is fine. not the one that goes back to colonial days when blacks were in chains and slaves and treated as three-fifths human beings. >> tammy: thank you very much, appreciate it, horace thank you for joining us as well. sorry, short on time. coming up code pink was going to fly the trump baby blimp tomorrow while trump held his salute to america. because they're grownups.
7:48 pm
but now the group is taking their protest to gross new heights on our nation's birthday. that debate coming up next. >> this decision by president trump to have, to hijack the national holiday so it is a trump special day, is wrong.
7:49 pm
7:50 pm
7:51 pm
. >> we want to denounls donald trump plitizing and mill tarizing the fourth of july july which is supposed to be a day that we come together for a barbecue, tofu burgers. >> tammy: well there you go, tofu burgers. code pink activists protesting president trump's salute to america tomorrow. however their plans for the trump baby blump, very famous now, have been grounded by the park president. so the group is taking it a step further with this. this is a robot trump on a golden toilet tweeting, yes, wearing obviously a hat. joining me now is ariel gold, code pink national co-director, and jd hayward have worth, former arizona congressman. welcome to both of you on this third of july. thank you for joining me. >> thank you. >> that you. >> tammy: ariel, i'm a former
7:52 pm
community organizer on the left. i love activist. i think visuals are important. and should be used. but my question to you is this: who exactly, at a point in time where people want to be persuaded, people aren't sure who represents them and what is at stake, what is fake. who do you think you're persuading here with this kind of display? i'm very curious about what the intention is, beyond just maybe shock or getting your point across. maybe you don't mean to persuade f you do, who is it that you're persuading with this kind of demonstration? >> well, both the baby trump blimp and the potty trump are real crowd pleasers around the world. and we're sure that people will appreciate some british humor at this moment of seeing trump on the toilet and trump in his
7:53 pm
nappies. >> tammy: you admit this is for the circus and the theater of it. it's not about having an impact on the country, on the quality of people's lives, to change people's minds. it's just for the fun. >> well, let's face it, the fourth of july is supposed to be about bringing everybody together. but trump has politicized this holiday, hijacked it. he's going so far as using tanks, using the u.s. military as a backdrop for his 2020 campaign. >> j.d. we'll get to you in a second, definitely go to j. j.d. now. obviously the complaint is trump's behavior. but then it seems you're ploying imagery that if you think he's been disgusting, that is as disgusting. you've become what you argue against. j.d., you, too, know about the
7:54 pm
public and you've run for office and you've made a difference in the field. what is your sense of what this is? if we're talking about trying to come together does this help at all this kind of display? >> well, i'm reminded of what fred friendly, the one-time president of cbs news pointed out in later years at the ford foundation. just because you have the right to do something doesn't make it right. and, look, there's a place where sophomoric humor, i'm a fan of national lampoon. to do this kind of thing tomorrow, on what should be a true american celebration, is wrong. the fact is, if we go back and remember our constitution and the role of any president, from george washington to millard fillmore to president obama to donald trump there are three jobs a president has. one is to be chieficive. chief executive. commander in chief.
7:55 pm
and the ceremonial held of state. you saw nothing like this when gerald ford in the election year of 1976 led the bicentennial celebration i don't rahm any squawking from then former georgia governor jimmy carter. but you had the radicalization of the left. to hear people like this, makes me wonder in high school were they all involved in audio visuals? they're the ultimate projectionists, projecting on to the right their sense and what they're doing to politicize what should be a great american holiday. >> tammy: ariel, i see this, if i was in your position, on national television, fourth of july celebration, i would want to do something that mattered. your group gets attention but that's the extent of it. do you have anything positive or constructive to say regarding policy? he is the president, winning does have the benefits of what you've been able to do after winning.
7:56 pm
he did become president. whether people like that or not. is there anything constructive your group might want to be doing? >> let's talk about what we should be outraged about. >> tammy: let's talk about what you would do -- ariel, no, i know that you're upset, just a minute. ariel. both of you, ariel, please. please, please. you've got a national television awed reasons and you're wasting it, you're wasting the opportunity tomorrow, because you have nothing really to say. that is our problem. >> what is ridiculous is what trump is doing to the fourth of july holiday. >> tammy: it is a celebration. j.d. -- >> here's my suggestion. >> tammy: both of you, we have to go. >> just quick. >> instead of july 4, save it for election day, let the people decide. >> tammy: that's it, thank you
7:57 pm
both. once again the left, a lot of noise, frankly, not much content. i'm tammy bruce. we will be coming back right after this, thank you for being here, we'll be right back.

laura ingraham. don't miss my new show, "get tammy bruce." president of independent women's voice, learn more at iwv.org. mike is sheen for shannon bream, "fox news at night" team takes it here. >> we begin with a fox news alert. president trump vows tomorrow will be the show of a lifetime, but there are already fireworks in the nation's capital as protesters and americans from all over the country descend on d.c. for president trump's fourth of july salute to america celebration. we're taking you to the national mall for a live look in just moments. but president trump not giving up on having a citizenship twe on the 2020 sen tuesday. tonight justice department officials are trying to find a way to make it happen in way that is consistent with last week's supreme court ruling. more that coming up. and later, president trump is hitting back at democrats over criticisms of how customs and border protection agents treating my grants at our
