la fitness which is on the other side, about 21 people officially now are injured or were wounded, only two of them very serious, one of them was a child but when people, fire teams and police officers all responded on the scene, they said people were all over the place, we did just have about 30 minutes ago press update with the deputy fire chief in plantation, florida, confirmed that the state fire marshal was here and ultimately he said they were absolutely amazed that the injuries were not more and more serious than what they were, let's take a listen to some sound we have prepared, go ahead. >> when we arrived we found patients scattered all about debris area, we are relieved, considering how we found patients and where we found them, the injuries are not as severe as we thought they would be, we are thankful for that.

happened about 4 hours ago just before noon down here in broward county, agencies from all over the county even down in miami are all on the scene, so they did an initial search through all buildings behind me, we found no people trapped by debris, they are now doing a secondary research and, of course, as you could see the rain has now started making efforts for the fire department and police officers a little more challenging but 4 hours after this happened, no reports of anybody being trapped or wounded and can't get out, you would think that you would have heard about rescues by now, but all of the wounded were taken to nearby hospitals, most of the wounds and injuries based on the fire, deputy fire chief was basically what you would see during an explosion, flying glass, flying debris, back to you in new york. arthel: phil keating, we will

say there wasn't any, reported jeff paul out in the middle of the night after 7.1 earthquake last night and got this video of fires at nearby mobile home park, firefighters also turned up this morning to mop up the damage that was done, but even though there was no real, physical damage to any great extent, there have been damage done to the psych of residents caught in very large earthquakes, listen here. >> i just thank to creator to protect us right now because we are in a crisis, we see in the movies but we never thought it would hit here. >> my body won't stop trembling, i'm walking but my body is trembling and when the aftershocks come, it damaged me more.

iran starts to increase uranium production that could eventually become nearly enough for a nuclear weapon, however, iran says it does not want to withdraw from this nuclear deal altogether, the u.s. pulled out of that deal a year ago, but 6 other countries do remain committed to it, so far britain is one of the backers of that iran deal, but right now it's involved with the stand-up of its own with iran after marines seized iranian oil tanker, allegedly trying to take oil to syria, that's in breach of eu sanctions and now iranian commander threatening to retaliate in response by seizing a british ship, now, amid all the rising tensions with iran, of course, the u.s. still has an aircraft carrier out in the gulf, thousands of additional fleets in the region too and don't forget last month iran shut down u.s. drone which it claimed had strayed into air space, what we are expecting

deadline. >> they came illegally and we are bringing them out legally, these are people where we have the papers, we've got through the court system, they'll be starting fairly soon, but i don't call them raids, removing people that have come in all of these years, come in illegally, we are removing them and bringing them back to their country. >> democrats say all of this is evidence president trump does not want a solution referring instead to use the situation at the border and issues with the immigration system as political slaughter. >> this is a serious problem that requires bipartisan effort to come to solutions for the american public and for the people who are seeking asylum, so i wish that we could have a real serious conversation, i don't think from my perspective the president really wants a solution, he likes to stir people. >> speaker pelosi reportedly called president trump directly last month to talk about the

raids not long after that the president announced the two-week delay, he said he was doing it at the request of democrats to see if democrats and republicans could get together to fix what he called the asylum and loophole problem at the southern border, if they failed, he said deportations would begin, an operation in cities miami, new york, los angeles and san francisco targeting some 2,000 undocumented families, that is the rate or at least one of the raids we know that was delayed. ice officials say that all of the people they were planning to target in this raid or in any raid that they do have removal papers, though, most of them according to various reports, many of these 2,000 undocumented families, those removal orders were issued, a lot of them after missed court dates, arthel? >> okay, thank you, ellison barber, mike. >> arthel, new report of what

>> thank you, arthel. arthel: how are the vacancies and temporary top-ranking positions at the dhs impacting the immigration crisis at the border? >> honestly i really don't think they are very much, lost in all of this is homeland security department has fewer than a dozen and half senate confirmable positions to begin with, you have top people acting administrators but i don't think that makes a big difference, they are doing the job and the one position that i think has been in limbo helpful to get through is inspector general, trump nominated somebody last november, made through committee in march, waiting almost 4 months for senate floor vote, honestly blame mitch mcconnell for that one but there aren't that many to begin with. arthel: ninth circuit court of appeals blocked the president from using 2.5 billion from defense department to build the wall, basically rubber stamping a ruling by a lower court that ruled president trump cannot reallocate funds without congressional approval, now, the president says this is all

political, is it? >> well, i think any time you see something making its way through the ninth circuit on the back of presidential order it's almost always political when it's a republican president, this would ultimate i will go to supreme court, i would say likely the supreme court will side with the president on this one, he's not asking to pick up a giant chunk of the defense department's budget and give it to homeland security, believe this or not, the argument is that the defense department, the reservists and all the soldiers at the bord need protections themselves, barriers to protect them which also have the side benefit of keeping illegal aliens, i think it will pass legal muster ultimately. >> meanwhile the facebook pages spearheaded by some customs and border patrol agents, pages containing incentive, derogatory and lewd posts including jokes about migrants deaths and

congressman alexandria ocasio-cortez, aoc, targeted of sexual violent post, cbp officials told members of congress the agency didn't know anything about the facebook groups, but now it has come to light that the cbp agencies or official did know about at least one of the groups, david, how does this even happen? >> some people are just horrible people, what we know how many are current cbp agents or other officials, if you look at fine print from the news stories, you can be a retired agent, part-time former agent and be part of it, i think if any current or former government officials are involved in degrading things they should be out on their butts tomorrow, fired, the reality democrats in some committees will then defend the public sector unions desire to keep them in jobs, a lot of this is show beating, the cbp people i'm talking to, very

quietly, look, we knew the groups existed but we never suspected a lot of actual working agents were behind them, so there's nothing they can do to penalize a retiree and that's where we will wind up. arthel: let's look at kind of review the tasks at hand, to weed tout bad actors at cbp, you are saying most are retired, others are currently -- >> saying we don't know, mitch mcconnell hasn't called a vote on inspector general who could investigate it credibly. >> if they are currently employed, then we have to rule out the bad people, clean up the horrendous conditions, speed up asylum process and plug the porous border, does the trump administration have the will and wherewithal to tackle all of the above? >> working in trump's favor right now i think is you have an election coming up and the more of the horror stories that come up, the question is are democrats going win the battle

of ideas and propaganda war by saying it's all trump's fault even though conditions go back to obama administration or trump will win the battle, look, if democrats would simply help us plug holes at the border most of the people won't be here in the first place, fix it where you live philosophy. i think the trump administration can make a stronger case in usaid, some programs that help people before they come here. some of the conditions in the photos, some of the migrant areas and detention facilities are awful but i just got back recently from a week in africa, most of the kids there are living in conditions that would make these kinds of things look nice by comparison. arthel: that's africa. we are talking about people being held at the border. >> most are coming from thirld-world circumstances that are frankly worse. the bigger question, of course, election year coming up, is the trump administration going to make strong enough case that this is a democrats fault, of

washington with details, garrett. >> one of several options the trump administration is looking at to try to get the citizenship question onto 2020 census, remember, the supreme court did not rule being included but struck it down for the time being because the government's explanation as to why it was included to include voting rights act didn't match up with the evidence presented. now the administration is working to come up with an explanation that will pass muster with the court, on friday, president trump said he is considering four or five options including executive order to try to get the citizenship question back on the census. >> we will make a decision, you can also add addition and maybe do addendum after we get a positive decision, so we are working on a lot of things including executive order. >> opponents of the question are vowing to fight any effort by the administration to get the

question out into the census and in anticipation of an executive order the aclu asked federal judge to permanently block the commerce department from adding citizenship question with group's director saying, quote, the trump administration repeatedly argued the census forms cannot be altered after june 30th, they've now changed their tune because the supreme court ruled against them. they can't have it both ways, trump's lawlessness will not go unanswered. there is no official deadline for when the trump administration needs to provide the court with its new reasoning for the citizenship question, but the census forms are already being printed and the closer we get to january, the harder it would be to change plans once forms start going out, arthel. >> let's bring in legal panel, criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor and jenna ellis, trump 2020 advisory board, great to have you both. >> thanks for having us. >> thanks so much, mike.

>> do you expect congress and commerce attorneys to figure out a way to include the citizenship question on next year's census, jenna? >> first, it's ridiculous that we need challenge to ask census to ask citizens whether they're citizens of the united states of america, that said, i think the goal is let's get the question on the census, we can fight about whether we can force people to answer or it or not later but this is extensive process, it's once every ten years, chief justice roberts doesn't have a problem with the question, he had a problem with the reasoning behind the question and i think he was wrong on that, let's get the question on the census. >> jenna, what's your take on finding legal argument to present to the courts? >> well, here i think it's completely fair that president trump is reasonably weighing all options and let's remember that the court here said specifically that the question did not violate the constitution clause

nor census act, chief justice roberts and the other liberal justices and in his case, this case he was one to have liberal judges, just had problem with the rationale, that's not a -- that's a political question, it's not a constitutional question and so really here what the administration needs to do is just simply say we can do this consstitutionally, therefore we will and so i think that whatever the avenue that trump's legal advisers here in the administration are going to give them, i think that they will find a legal way to challenge this and to go back in front of the court and say, this is absolutely fair, let's remember, this is just reinstating the question, this isn't anything new, we've been having this question on the long form questionnaire since 1970's, even earlier than that in the census, this is simply reinstatement, political battle from democrats an liberal left to claim that this is somehow, unwarranted reason or rationale, this is simply trying to promote free and fair elections which

every american citizen needs to get behind because one vote for one person absolutely matters and we want to make sure that every legitimate vote is counted. >> jenna, you touched on politics, politically does it matter if president trump wins on this issue is there benefit by just showing he's fighting for what he believes in a common sense question? >> i think both matter, i think that the american people are happy to see that he's pushing back against a completely activist supreme court decision and fighting for the best interest of the american people because let's remember that our right to be franchise in the vote really matters here, the outcome, of course, matters to rule of law and fundamental fairness in protecting and preserving the privilege that we have in the united states of america to vote, so i think the outcome matters but certainly the fact that he is willing to make this fight among all of the other things that he's done since 2016 absolutely matter and it's going to matter come 2020 as well? >> jonna, if the administration finds a way to get this on the

census next year, do people need to answer that particular question? >> well, here is a really interesting thing, right, technically we are supposed to answer the questions and answer them honestly, if you don't answer, it's 100-dollar fine, if you falsify an answer it's 500-dollar fine, mike, nobody has been prosecuted for doing either of those things since 1970, so to opponents who say, listen, if you add this question, we will get undercount, not get accurate count, how do we know we are getting accurate count now because there's no way to measure it when we don't prosecute people for not filling out or filling it out falsely. president trump was criticized for not having legitimate rationale, though i agree with that, the opponents as well because their rationale stinks as well. >> hoping this can be an addendum put on later, jenna, let's start with you?

>> yeah, i think that this shows that the trump administration is willing to accept that the supreme court has made a decision currently but there's still challenging it, as president trump said, basically an invitation from chief justice roberts to come back in front of the court and so they're moving ahead with the printing but absolutely no reason it can't be reprinted or addendum added later, i think we will see that come the 2020 census. >> let's bring in jonah in. >> let's get it printed, eventually people should have to answer honestly, we are not asking you if you're here illegally, we are asking if you're citizen of the great country. arthel: earthquake that is have shaken southern california and plenty of nerve there while the earth was moving beneath people's feet many chose to grab their cell phones and record the scary moment.

kristina coleman from la bureau, kristina. >> arthel, we learned that just moments ago california governor arrived in ridgecrest, people shopping at local wal-mart got up close look at at the mess that the quake caused. this is the wal-mart in ridgecrest, town 10 miles southwest of epicenter of last night's 7.1 quake, hit 8:19 local time, jugs of water and food scattered on the floor making total mess on the aisles, more than 100 aftershocks sin thursday's earthquakes and more could come, check out albertson's, employees, customers walking on piles as aftershocks continue to rattle the entire store, this ridgecrest family got under the table, listen to frantic moments when all of this was going on.

too noted thankful that it wasn't a lot worse, mike. >> let's hope for peaceful afternoon evening for folks in ridgecrest and southern california, thanks a lot. arthel: more on that let's bring in geo physicists mika mckennon, a matter of time that another major earthquake would hit southern california, but scientifically speaking why not? >> we cannot ever predict exactly when, where and how strong an earthquake is going to be, we can only forecast probability, the reason that there was a magnitude 7.1 after that magnitude 6.4 on the fourth of july was probably because the stress that was released by the first earthquake moved around and managed to add a little bit more emergency, more tension onto a locked fault that hit its limit and finally break.

unfortunately we can't tell which of these earthquakes are fore shocks and which is going to be the main quake until afterwards, they don't come labeled by mother nature, so we got lucky by having the earthquakes out in the mojave and instead somewhere like underneath la. arthel: original 6.4 earthquake smaller than 7.1, are you considering that 6.4 quake the fore shock and the 7.1 the actual quake? >> yes, exactly. and unfortunately because it's not labeled we had to rename on the fly and everything is smaller that's happening after the 7.1 is now an aftershock, we expect to have those aftershocks dropping in both magnitude and freak -- frequency over time. it's possible that sometime in next week we can have even a magnitude 6 and keep going

smaller, the 5, 4's, the 3's, so many earthquakes so far, shake, rattle and roll, on the upside now that people have had the earthquakes, they remember what to do, they have practiced drop, cover, hold on, lock, cover, hold on and they've already either had things fallen down or realizing they have a problem and securing in place so people are prepared for the next earthquake. arthel: you're saying they'll be more aftershocks, will that happen in ridgecrest area as well? >> currently aftershocks and continue to be aftershocks in ridgecrest area, they will keep dropping off in intensity and by time, by next week we will have fewer and fewer of them. arthel: listen, we don't want it to happen any any town, if that were to hit a big earthquake like that to hit densely-populated area, how

devastating could that be? >> with earthquaking it's all about locations, building codes and preparation, so if a similar earthquake had happened underneath san francisco and la we would be looking repeat of 1989, 1994 north ridge in la, similarity sized earthquakes, for real contrast you can look at when we had i think the 2010 earthquake in haiti, that was magnitude 7.0, technically smaller than this and yet tens of thousands of people died because the earthquake was right underneath major cities and they didn't have the building codes and infrastructure so a lot of building collapses happened and a lot of fires broke out. arthel: since the north ridge earthquake, i'd say in '94, lots of la -- downtown la has grown and i'm imagining that the newer buildings down there are to earthquake code by today's

standard? >> earthquake codes are constantly improved, california has been developing and testing earthquake early warning system, they get triggered by arrival by the p waves and give you a countdown depending how far away the earthquake was until arrival of more surface waves, it did -- the la area has a beta test going on right now, it did detect these earthquakes but didn't send out notifications because the shaking was not going to be severe enough to be damaging in la, they are you now revising what the threshold would be, you can think that 10 second isn't all that much time and there's not enough time to retro fit your building but enough time to get out of the kitchen where cups are falling down or grab your baby and get underneath the table or pull over to the side of the road, or to stop open-heart surgery, you can do a lot of things with 10-second warning.

arthel: usually go into door jam and take cover there but we saw photos, video of some patrons running out of a restaurant because i don't blame them, the last thing they would want pancake on top of them. >> i prefer that people would drop, cover, hold on where they are, if you try to run the waves feel like ocean waves, people have gotten nauseous and can be strong enough to knock you down, people get broken legs and when you exit a building you are going through the area where any brick, roof tiles, external light fixtures are falling down, all those extra material raining down right at the entry way. in north america, codes are good enough that we expect the buildings to stay intact so we are worried about things inside the building, drop, cover, hold on and drill it if you have the

muscle memory. arthel: a lot of people live in la, new comers and aren't prepared and a lot of people visiting, tell us one more time, what do we do in case of an earthquake? >> if you feel shaking, drop, cover, hold on, get underneath heavy piece of furniture, protect your head, protect your neck, if you don't have the ability to drop, walk mobility to vice in place, if you're say in bed, asleep, 8 hours a day, curl up, put pillow, cover back of the head, keep flashlight down there, but another thing you can do if you're intimidating to start earthquake kit, start your prep, have a party, invite your neighbors, say hello, if things go really, really wrong, the very first people on scene aren't going to be firefighters and not paramedic, the people who are physically closest to you, your neighbors, so get to know them

mcaleenan and acting customs and border patrol commissioner mark morgan are expected to testify. let's bring in kelly, senior editor of the washington examiner, so kelly jane, what can we expect to hear from the president on monday? >> that's a good question, arthel, i was trying to figure that out myself, the white house hasn't released many details and this certainly is not a topic that you would expect to have the major speech by donald trump on, saying america is an environmental leader, it's not earth day, doesn't seem to be a reason for this speech and, of course, many environmentalists have complained about the rollback of regulations that has happened ever since trump took office but i think one of the things that he can point to and i expect him to point to is that the u.s. is now the leader in natural gas production, actually surpassed russia just a couple of years ago, the united states we now produce more natural gas than the entire middle east and why is that important?

that's because natural gas out of all fossil fuels, has the lowest carbon dioxide emissions of any of the fossil fuels, for example, new natural gas plant will produce half the emissions of new coal plant, it is certainly a much greener fossil fuel and the u.s. is becoming the leader in this and exploring it worldwide, that's certainly one thing he can point to, how much else is difficult to say and emissions have gone down by 10% in the last decade and a half but we have actually seen a lot more days of unhealthy quality since donald trump became president then obama seen on average. mixed messages and i'm surprised that the white house is deciding to do this and certainly climate change is a concern of a lot of voters but it's not the top two issues which recent polls have shown immigration and health care are. arthel: well, let's take a look at the environmental rules

rolled back under president trump, you've got infrastructure and planning, 12, air pollution and emissions, 10, drilling and extraction, 9, animals, 8, water pollution, 4. do fellow republicans back the president on these rollbacks? >> arthel, i think a lot of them do, the republican party is actually a little divided on the issue of the environment, there are people in the republican party who see climate change as serious issue and they want something done, they, of course, don't want the sort of new green new deal introduced by people like alexandria ocasio-cortez, they want some sensible environmental policy that won't harm american businesses, but then there are also many republicans who actually don't think climate change is the crisis that democrats certainly on the whole, as a group paint it as and keep in mind that president trump himself actually tweeted in 2012 that climate change was something that the chinese made up to hurt american

manufacturing. now that was about 7 years ago, i don't know if he still believes that but he certainly has spoken many times in the past of being skeptical if not a denier of climate change, so the president himself really sets the agenda here and he will be the one giving the speech and you mention all of the rollbacks and certainly a lot more in play, in fact, those numbers would be bigger except that there have been legal challenges to some that the administration tried to do and they weren't able to roll those back. arthel: let's switch to immigration and take a listen to national border patrol council vice president on the internal dhs investigations into border patrol agents, some of them, making derogatory remarks on two facebook groups. >> by no means would i make up any type of excuse for some of the language and some of the posts that are done, the national border patrol council came out first before even the agency and, you know, talked against it.

my main concern is that don't categorize the entire, you know, men and women that put their lives on the line and actually, you know, care about the job that they are doing based on comments of a small group of people on a facebook page. arthel: earlier reporting on what congress would want to hear next week from dhs, cbp heads and could the hearing get contentious considering it appears that last week when cbp testified they weren't completely truthful about derogatory facebook posts and what they knew about this? >> i expect it to get contentious, arthel. that's assuming that they appear, we don't have confirmation that mark morgan and kevin mcaleenan will appear, offices have not confirmed. now the hear if it happens will be friday and, yeah, i expect it to be very contentious and when people see image that is we have been seeing coming out of some of these centers and i'm finding out that some of the people that are in charge of -- of looking

after those people and making sure that they're safe and fed and everything, we find out that they have been making derogatory comments about them and about members of congress as well, it's pretty -- it's pretty concerning and the fact that leadership appeared to have lied and knew about this, yeah, perhaps it's a small group of people who are making the comments but -- i think there are 20,000 border patrol agents in the united states, this facebook group that's secret and now turned to be out very controversial, 9500 people were members of that, not all of them are current border patrol agents, apparently it was a mix of current agents and, you know, retired or agents who left for another job, but you have a facebook group of 9500 people who are making communities like -- comments like this it is concerning and you have to wonder how seriously the leadership take it and make sure this sort of thing does not happen again and people who are in there are not treating people
