where they said the heat wave was coming and it is here. while other portions of the country, louisiana, mississippi, still cleaning up from a tropical storm and a lot of rain. good morning, you're watching "fox & friends first" on this wednesday morning. i'm heather childress. thank you once again, as always, for starting your day with us. we go straight to a fox news alert. at this hour, a kentucky sheriff's deputy is fighting for his life after getting shot in the line of duty overnight. the deputy was responding to a domestic dispute when the gunman opened fire from his car outside the home. the suspect then hit a patrol car head-on before speeding away. officers later arrested him in a nearby cemetery. the deputy is in critical condition. so we'll continue to update that for you. anti-i.c.e. protests ramping up hateful rhetoric nationwide. in dc, activists blocking all entrances and exits at i.c.e.

headquarters in a standoff protesting immigration policies. as demonstrations get out-of-hand, democrats refuse to condemn violent acts from the far left. we have details. >> reporter: you're absolutely right. this feels like it's getting out-of-hand. dozens of protesters gathered in the nation's capital, blocking entrances and exits to i.c.e. headquarters. several frustrated a i.c.e. employees tried to get to work without success. 11 protesters were arrested. it comes days after anarchist was killed by police for storming a tacoma, washington i.c.e. facility, armed with a rifle. police say he was throwing devices at agency vehicles, lighting one on fire in an al tempattempt to burn down the ene building. he claimed to be provoked by

order to unmask the antifa activists and hopefully curb the violence demonstrations. heather: anna, great to have you with us. thank you. let's go to colorado. police in colorado hitting a roadblock in their search for the protesters who removed an american flag and replaced it with a mexican one outside an i.c.e. facility. aurora police tweeted a series of pictures, just hours later they posted this. take a look. that same set of photos with one blacked out. that picture was taken by a denver post photographer. the paper issued a cease and desist order to the police department. the house passing a resolution condemning president trump's so-called racist remarks against what they're calling the squad. the decision coming after hours of chaos leading speaker nancy pelosi to temporarily lose her ability to speak on the house floor. mark meredith joins us live from

washington on the historical procedural meltdown. mark, it really was something. >> reporter: heather, never a dull moment around here. let's start with the news that you were talking about. house lawmakers approved a resolution tuesday night, condemning president trump over some recent remarks he made both on twitter and in person regarding four democratic congresswomen. many house democrats have accused the president of using racist language when he said the four progressive lawmakers should essentially go back to where they came from. all four are american citizens. the president's comments engulfed washington the last few days, leading to last night's decision by democrats to formally condemn the president. house speaker nancy pelosi was among those who spoke out on the house floor. >> these comments from the white house are disgrateful and disgusting and the comments are racist. every member should join us in condemning the president's racist tweets.

>> reporter: but speaker pelosi got into some hot water over the comments she made. a republican congressman from georgia a accused the speaker of violating house rules and challenged her comments on the floor. >> i make a point of order,. >> the chair will remind all members, please, please, do not make personal comments. >> reporter: democratic leaders agreed pelosi's comments were out-of-line. that didn't stop the resolution against the president from passing. foreigns and one independent joined democrats in voting to condemn president trump. the president tweeted late last night about the vote. this is what he had to say. so great to see how unified the republican party was on today's vote concerning comments i made about four democratic congresswomen. we expect to hear a lot more

stand for and what they stand for is a socialist agenda that would be devastating for this nation. heather: much more on that to come throughout the day, i'm sure. today also the house is set to vote on holding attorney general william barr and commerce secretary wilbur ross in contempt for ignoring subpoenas. democrats demanding to know why the administration wanted to add the citizenship question to the 2020 census. this comes as a new york federal judge issues an order to permanently block the trump administration from adding it. president trump says he will attain citizenship information from other agencies. well, u.s. officials suspected iran is to blame for missing tanker near the persian gulf. the united arab emirates vessel was traveling through the strait of hormuz when the tracking system went dark. officials say there was no distress call. if iran did seize the ship, it would be the latest in a series

the american people don't care about this bs that they're doing in the house, trying to say the president is racist. we don't care about that. get something done. that's what we care about. and for them to come out and i believe it's racist to say this about the president. only reason they're saying this is because he's white. i believe that these four stooges, i call them the four stooges, they're coming against the president in what i believe is a racial tangent against him and every other white person in america. heather: i would ask you, why has there not been anytime type of condemnation specifically from nancy pelosi in terms of anti-semetic tweets and comments that have been made by some of these four congresswoman specifically? >> a couple things. heather, you opened your segment this morning saying so-called racist comments. i think that's part of the problem. democrats and republicans acknowledge the fact that those comments were racist to the core. heather: that's not true. not everyone thinks they're racist. >> democrats and republicans acknowledge that. let's not do that this morning.

the last time i was on this network with brandon, he told me racism didn't exist in the country. we all know that's true. what we saw yesterday from the house democrats and some republicans is acknowledging the fact that what the president did was wrong, it was racist, it was hate in the form of modern day what i call not even a dog whistle but a bull horn. the truth of the matter is, this is rhetoric we've seen from president trump before. he's speaking to a group of people in the country who love to hear these words. if we don't acknowledge the fact, if we continue to be numb to this, we are part of the problem. i lived through what these words could mean to people. heather: let me let brandon respond to that as well. brandon. >> listen, let me respond to this. i don't know what planet you're living on. i'm a black man in america just like you are a and i don't think the president is a racist. if the man was a racist i wouldn't have supported him. half of the country wouldn't have voted for him.

heather: here's a look at what the president had to say. he said it's so great to see how unified the republican party was on today's vote concerning statements i made about four democratic congresswomen. if you want to see statements, look at the horrible things they say about our country, israel and much more. they are now the top most visible members of the house democrats who are now we'ded to this bitterness and hate. the republican vote was 187-4, meaning 4 voted in favor with democrats. woulwow. this was the first time since 1984 the speaker of the house was ruled out of order. quite a day. my question is, does the democratic party want to rally behind these four congresswomen who have made clear how they feel about jews in this country, the anti-semetic comments that they made, not condemning antifa most recently, not condemning al-qaida, is this wise for

heather: your reason for running is because of your brother jessie, tell us more about that. >> on december 14th, the shooter entered his classroom and fired bullets. it's unclear if the gun jammed or ran out of bullets. he yelled for his classmates to run. nine of them did run. he stayed behind to defend his teacher. this is the story we learned from the fbi reports. he's credited with saving nine lives. heatherremark.heather: remarka. what made you want to take his memory and heroic actions and run for public office. >> seeing that kind of courage, it made me realize we all have that courage inside of us. what i can do to change the world is run for state senate. heather: are there specific issues you want to focus on? >> of course. over the last year i've been working on the school safety movement on a national level, culminating in the relows of the federal -- release of the federal school safety report.

i'll work with the left or the right. i don't think politics matter when it comes to school safety. it's one of the most important issues in the country right now. heather: absolutely. i want todd tali wanted to talke that. i was following you on twitter and you talked about having an experience where you met president obama and you met president trump and you're able to bring both of them together in terms of that idea specifically involving school violence. >> sharing jessie's story of herheroism. so telling president obama and president trump jessie's story and they both got emotional. it's a story that brings us all together. as a state senator i'll be able to juice thi use this story andh sides of the table together and get something accomplished. heather: as a republican, because you're running as a republican in a deep blue state, how do you plan to bring people together? >> i'm uniquely positioned right now as the brother of a gun violence victim and also a

this rhetoric that is against law enforcement and the empowerment that these people feel that they can go after them. if we don't get control of this, we're going to have less and less people that will be willing to join the ranks of law enforcement and without law enforcement we don't have the rule of law and we go back to the violence that we'll see in the streets. we can't have that. heather: since you mentioned that, i want to bring this up for people at home so they see. this is just in june and july, the number of protests that have happened outside of i.c.e. facilities from i think it is june 30th or june 27th up to july 12th with the latest one being there in aurora, cholera he dough, where they removed an i.c.e. facility's american flag and replaced it with a mexican flag. >> it's interesting that you constantly have the left that say that they speak out against hate. they only speak out against hate as long as it's targeted at

their particular groups. if it's targeted at their base, they'll speak out against hate. if the hate is targeted against people that are generally for the right, they're all for it. and they won't talk about that. we should condemn hate wherever hate exists. whether it be on the right, whether it be on the last. but you just don't see the mainstream media doing that and, again, that is what is empowering these people to make them think that it's okay for them to storm i.c.e. facilities. it's okay for them to ambush police officers that are in the streets. this has got to stop. heather: not only is it not the mainstream media doing this, and speaking out against antifa and these type of violent attacks, it's also our country's leaders, ilhan omar and alexandria ocasio-cortez. listen to what they said, refusing to condemn antifa, this was just on monday. >> will you condemn antifa? will you condemn antifa for the

against it, even though my only concern is to protect the citizens of the united states, protect those individuals that are crossing the border illegally, ensure that they are treated humanely and with respect and we don't get anything from the people like ocasio-cortez. heather: i know you had given us an example of this anonymous post card threat that you received where you were called a disgusting animal for just doing your job. there it is. there at the border. we were talking earlier about this latina border patrol agent that's gone viral and as a result of her going viral, and she's a democrat, more people have found out about her and they posted death threats to her and her family online. >> again, just for doing her job. now, you have to remember, our job is to enforce the laws that congress passed. congresswoman -- heather: ocasio-cortez. >> ocasio-cortez, she's a member of congress.

capitol hill. lawmakers calling out the social media giant over its plans to create a cryptocurrency. >> the h question is, will you accept all of your compensation in this new currency? >> senator, lee brially bra sent to replace bank accounts. >> skeptical senators during that hearing on capitol hill, both republican and democratic lawmakers had a lot of tough questions for the head of libra, facebook's cryptocurrency project they're working on, really specifically over privacy concerns and how facebook could possibly launch this type of project, given all the problems that it is currently facing. the head of facebook's libra, david marcus, said they will follow all the government regulations to launch this cryptocurrency, to make sure it's safe.
