policies deplete our public services, overcrowd our schools and hospitals and bring crime, drugs, and deadly gangs into our community. >> reporter: this as the dhs chief faces off with some members of the squad today. alexandria ocasio-cortez, ayana pressly, and rashida tlaib who sit on the house oversight committee and who testified themselves last week. >> there's no need for us to overcrowd and to detain and under-resource. there is no need for us to arrest innocent people and treat them no differently than criminals when they are pursuing their basic human rights. >> reporter: mcilenan who has been speaking out very loudly over the conditions at the border, but blames congress, he will make his case today for additional funding as well as border security.

the hearing comes as the pentagon announces 2100 additional troops will be sent to the border. it will be 1,000 texas national guard troops being activated, 250 in support of the port of entry operations, 750 to migrant detention facilities and 1100 active duty troops will increase in support of cbp ongoing operations. back to that hearing, heather, this is going to be very significant because, remember, mcienan has been driving the ship as the dhs head and he will face many of the democrats who failed to provide funding. so we shall see what comes at 10:00 a.m. today. heather: griff jenkins, live from washington, d.c. thank you very much, griff. a birmingham officer is shot multiple times in what is being described as a running gun

battle. officer collin stafford ambushed while responding to a robbery call, he is now in stable condition. today is the nine year veteran's 36th birthday. the shooting comes six months after a birmingham sergeant was shot and killed. overnight protesters swarmed the home of an nypd officer one day after the justice department clears him in the eric garner case. >> we will find you. heather: officer daniel pantaleno is accused of choking garner while arresting him for allegedly selling untaxed, loose cigarettes in 2014. garner died of a fatal asthma attack. investigators determined it was the choke hold that caused the attack.

the incident helped spark the black lives matter movement. well, the u.s. is preparing to send 500 troops to saudi arabia as tensions with iran reach a boiling point. they'll be stationed at the prince sultan air base where it would be hard for iranian missiles to actually target. and an army court ruling that beau bergdahl got a fair trial, rejecting claims that president trump interfered with the case. the president criticized the former soldier who was captured by the taliban after abandoning his post in afghanistan. >> we're tired of sergeant bergdahl who is a traitor, a no good traitor, who should have been executed. heather: his lawyers argued that the president's comments

and tweets swayed the trial. he pleaded guilty, resulting in a dishonorable discharge. what about this, did you hear the nike ad featuring colin kaepernick. it's nominated for an emmy award. he is seen at the end of the dream crazy commercial which also features other notable pro athletes. kaepernick became the face of the just do it campaign two years after playing his last game in the nfl. well, the time now is about 10 minutes i think after the top of the hour, 11 minutes specifically, and president trump slamming the squad at a fiery rally in north carolina and despite all the drama this week, his approval rating has gone up. our next guest is a member of the women for trump coalition. why she says it's more proof democrats are on track to lose 2020. and have you heard? bernie sanders has something huge to tell you about. >> and today we announce loudly

thank you for joining us. we appreciate it. first of all, your thoughts on last night, the rally in north carolina. >> there was so much excitement, so much energy, which trump tends to jen at all o generate s rallies. we saw so much energy from trump and also from the audience. people who love him get very excited about him. heather: he always has a wide cross section of people standing behind him, but a lot of women, a lot of signs from women supporting president trump and he also spent a lot of time talking about how women have benefited during his administration in terms of jobs and in terms of family. so was that something that we can expect to see throughout the campaign? >> yes, we have already seen that half of his donors this cycle are women. women are putting their money where their political opinions are. we've seen that women's unemployment is the lowest it's been in 50 years. and so trump really is improving our country for everyone, for

men and women. and women really care about all the same issues as men, health care, our border, all those things, so trump speaks to them. heather: he mentioned the majority of new jobs that have been gained under his administration were in fact by women. that was interesting. let's take a look at his poll. 50% approval rating for president trump. so the group that you're now a part of, women for trump is what it's called. >> yes. heather: that's a positive thing for you, obviously. >> his approval rating goes up and it's gone up in the last week, even though the democrats continue to criticize him. everyday americans are supporting him even more so. heather: specifically with i.c.e. raids as well. that's been one of the issues that's come up lately. 32% strongly support i.c.e. raids. >> yeah. i mean, most americans don't want to give health care to all illegal immigrants. most americans want to have a

safe country, they want their kids to be safe and want immigrants to come here legally. trump speaks to them. most americans don't relate to the far left wing democrats that are now becoming the spokespeople of the democratic party. heather: does it surprise you, going back to that 50% approval rating and looking at those statistics right there, in that poll, that with all the controversy involving the four freshmen congresswomen that his poll numbers are rising and the majority of people still agree with him? >> i don't think it's surprising. because they are extremely anti-american in their ideology and most americans love this country, want to see this country improve and be better, they want people to have the american dream and ocasio-cortez wants socialism to return to the country. ilhan omar, when asked if she supports al-qaida, can't answer. what does that tell us? that tells us their values are not american. so that's really what trump speaks to it american values. heather: and also not speaking

heather: welcome back to "fox & friends first." ilhan omar and rasheed tlaib are planning a visit to israel and the west bank but it's u up to prime minister benjamin net netanyahu if they'll be allowed. israeli law allows authorities to deny anyone who supported boycotting the country. the republican national committee are sending american flags to dozens of democratic leaders. the rnc said it's meant as a wake-up call for democrats who have been too silent on recent attacks against the flag. it includes a letter from the rnc chairwoman. in it, she calls out the left for refusing to condemn antifa's burning of the american flag, telling fox news we want to remind them you're blessed to live here. many americans are patriotic. they want to see our

congressional members stand for our country and stand for our flag. actor chris pratt slammed for wearing a pro america shirt. now we're learning that the group behind the design is a veteran nonprofit. carley shimkus with fox news headlines 24/7, sirius xm115 is here with the online reaction. i thought everyone knew this was a pro veteran, pro america symbol. >> it's a revolutionary war era symbol with the coil snake and the words, don't tread on me. chris pratt wore the shirt yesterday and received backlash on twitter. some said it was a white supremacist symbol. it's not. that shirt is from a nonprofit called the brain treatment foundation whose mission is to support rehabilitation and research for anyone suffering from brain injuries, including

military members suffering from things like ptsd or brain trauma. niknicole fisher said on twitter she woke up to thousands of messages informing her that she is a white supremacist. can you believe it. the foundation is standing by theirs message. they said this on facebook. we are proud of the american flag and all symbols that represent the freedom brave men and women have shed blood for since the inception of our great country. many on social media speaking out on this. kathy says now we have the clothing police. first it was the maga hat. now t-shirts that offend. this has gone off the rails. another twitter user says tell them to stop treading on my sanity and lastly this twitter user says good for him, nice to know there are still some people in hollywood that think logically. such a shame this happened. this is what happened with the

betsy ross flag. people are taking something from the founding of our country and turning it into a negative thing. heather: i think what needs to happen is there needs to be more a history lesson for a lot of folks coming up through school right now so they can learn what the meaning -- the true meaning is behind the different symbols. let's talk about bernie sanders. nothing seems to be going right for him apparently right now during this campaign. it's just the beginning of it. listen to this, what happened. >> and today, we a announce loudly and clearly that -- heather: his audio dropped out at the most inopportune time. he was going to say something loudly and clearly and the audio goes out. >> what he was going to say was that we will no longer accept the greed of the pharmaceutical industry. so he finisheso we finished tha. one twitter user said that's the best bernie sanders speech i ever heard.

in illegal crossings and help with asylum seekers. the u.s. is also preparing to send 500 troops to saudi arabia as tensions with iran reach a boiling point. according to cnn, they'll be stationed at the prince sultan air base where it would be apparently hard for iranian missiles to target. this comes as iran's foreign minister backtracks comments that his country's missile program is negotiable, tweeting they must manufacture missiles for defensive purposes. and today a random drawing will determine the 2020 candidate lineup for round two of the democratic debate. out o10 will take the stage on h of the two night debates that will be held in detroit on july 30th and 31st. we are not a tool of law enforcement, that is how the denver post is justifying its cease and desist order to the aurora police department. this after the publication forced the department to

blackout a photo of a possible suspect involved in an i.c.e. protest. araasia>> the denver post made e thing clear, police must get their permission before using pictures to solve crimes. this was around an immigration protest last friday. protesters pulled down an american flag from an i.c.e. detension facility, they tried to burn the flag and replaced it with a mexican flag. aurora police posted pictures of the suspect they're looking for. a photo of a masked man with an american flag actually belongs to the denver post newspaper and it didn't waste any time sending a cease and desist letter to police. aurora police responded by tweeting this blacked out photo instead. so why is this such a big deal for the post? the newspaper's editor writes that it's, quote, not a tool of law enforcement and that, quote,

the aurora police department's use of our photographies a clear violation of copyright law and the denver post terms of fair use. aurora pd is regretting the way they responded, adding we will continue to communicate with them on the appropriate use of their materials in times of public interest and all of this is happening as president trump condemns the media's coverage of antifa. >> antifa, these are bad people. these are sick, bad people, remember that. they don't get the bad press. they are very evil. they hit people over the head with sticks and i mean sticks, i mean bats even. they're whacking people with bats. they're very brave. they always show up with a mask and they're covered. >> that was the president last night in north carolina. by the way, doesn't look like those suspects have been found just yet. heather. heather: thank you so much for joining us this morning. great to see you. republicans slamming the political theater on capitol

>> [ indiscernible ] heather: does the rest of america agree? a new survey shows 51% of americans support the raids aimed at deporting undocumented immigrants with outstanding court orders. joining me now to react is renee perez, the wife of a border patrol agent. thank you so much for joining is. >> thank you for having me. heather: let's take a look at the map where president trump and i.c.e., they were targeting nine major cities. as the wife of a border patrol agent, how has this impacted your family, the calls to abolish i.c.e. and the things that have been said? >> you know, it just continues -- it just perpetuates this constant dialogue of just hatred and just lies towards the agents and our families and it's just -- it's continuing to stir the pot, in my opinion, and a lot of the opinion of the other agents'

families as well. heather: when you take a look at the polls, overwhelmingly, people actually support the work your husband and others are doing and as we mentioned in the intro there, these are people who are supposed to leave. it's a court order. so it's not just randomly going out there and targeting families. >> exactly. but i feel just as other things that this is in certain media outlets and with certain members of congress, they're putting out social media to where it seems like they're just raiding innocent families just at random. they don't understand that there is an order to this, they're very professional with i.c.e. they have been surveilling a lot of the people these are raiding. these are known criminals that are living in the united states and not criminals meaning they're just here illegally, meaning they have actually committed criminal acts.

and they are living here. and so if they haven't met their court date, obviously and they're criminals, they need to go back. it's just common sense. heather: something that's not common sense is we've been reading about not only the targeting of the border patrol agents themselves but as a mother, children of border patrol agents being bullied in school because of their parents' jobs. are you experiencing that? is your child experiencing that? >> you know, i was pretty shocked because, you know, as an agent's family we don't broadcast what my husband does but we live in a small community and obviously people realize what he does after time. my oldest is a teenager and we are so blessed that he goes to a school that's supportive but even with that said, he's not immune and i was talking -- having a conversation with him, and i have multiple times where

he told me that he has had people tell him we know border pa l trol l troll agents are --l agents are keeping kids in cages and they're like nazi concentration camps. my son's not a follower but it's almost like our children these days are paralyzed by fear to say anything to be proud of what their parent does or being called a racist. imagine being told that your dad or mother is keeping kids in cages. they're learning about the holocaust in school and what nazis were and hearing the comparison is just -- it's mind-blowing to me. heather: so unfortunate. >> we definitely have felt it, as well as some other families in our community. heather: it's so unfortunate. with this dangerous rhetoric, people need to understand there are consequences. >> it's really harmful. it comes to the point where they

heather: welcome back. oakland, california taking the first steps towards becoming the third u.s. city to ban the use of facial recognition software by employees. the law which is expected to become finalized in september does include police officers. but does it help protect the public or is it an invasion of privacy? here to debate that, cara frederick, associate fellow for the technology and national security program and dr. dan porcher, former nypd officer. thank you for joining us. we appreciate. cara, i'll begin with you. the third city where this ban has been passed, what do you think about it? >> so for all its flaws, the oakland ordinance does signal something very important. and that is, that it's time to take a tactical pause when it

comes to deploying facial recognition responsibly. what we're working towards are two outcomes. one is technical, one is policy. the technical outcome, we're looking for good algorithms, trained on a high volume and variety of data so that their output is more accurate. that 81% false positive rate that the london metropolitan police force is looking at right now, that's not acceptable. additionally, the policy outcome. we want to see these -- the input from policy makers, from the public, from citizens and from law enforcement officials, those that are on the front lines, to have proper standards and governance of the technology. heather: they have more time here. oakland hasn't completely banned it yet. it's the first step for them. they're expected to do this in september, dr. porcher. what about that, what about the possibility of false positives? >> well, the facial recognition is merely an investigative step.

the standard of proof necessary to make an arrest is probable cause. all facial recognition does is introduces an additional resource to police, where they can actually question the individual to determine if he or she committed the particular offense. all of the decisions are resourced that comes in the wheelhouse of police conducting an investigation. in terms of using this, when we look at the false positives, it goes to vigorous steps before you actually arrest someone. so it goes back to hey, look, unfortunately people may dislike this or disagree with it but this is going to be the new normal moving forward and when we look back at last year, what happened with the mayor of oakland, california, when they were against i.c.e., this is par for the course with the liberal agenda they practice in oakland, california. heather: another arsenal in investigators' box they can use

when it comes to solving crimes. i want to ask you about this, cara. disneyland now using magic bracelets to spy on park guests. should we be concerned about this? >> we should. i think this should awaken americans to the silent creep of this digital surveillance, of what corporations and private companies are doing with our data. something as innocuous as disneyland, americans are already willing to sacrifice their privacy for convenience. this is especially prevalent in young people, 18 to 24 yolds, s they typically accept the privacy agreements without reading the agreements. when it comes to data mining of minors especially, i think we need to be on our guards as americans. heather: just another way to be tracked, is that what you think? >> there's two sides of it.
