>> nice to see you. >> nice to be here. >> hope the air conditioning works. >> try to stay cool. >> right on. have a great weekend. catch you monday. "outnumbered" starts now. >> fox news alert for you. president trump is hitting back at the media with his growing feud with the squad. this as one of them gets a home coming in her district. this is "outnumbered." i'm melissa francis. this is harris faulkner. carl carley shimkus is here, capri cafaro and guy benson, host of the guy benson radio show. he's "outnumbered." i love having you here on a friday. a lot of news. we need you. >> and we're in a friday mood

here on the couch. cocktails before we came on air. not drinking them yet. >> we discussed making them. >> yeah. all right. on that note, the battle goes on between president trump and the squad amid big questions about the political impact. congresswoman ilhan omar returning to a cheering crowd in her home district of minnesota yesterday. listen. [chanting]. she then doubled down on her criticism of the president after calling him a fascist earlier in the day and vowed to remain a thorn in his side. >> when i said i was the president's night mare, you're watching it now. because his nightmare is seeing a somali immigrant refugee being
9:02 am
in congress. his nightmare is seeing the beautiful mosaic fabric of our country welcome someone like me as a member of congress from minnesota. we are going to continue to be a nightmare to this president because his policies are a nightmare to us. >> president trump said the fake news media became crazed over the chant "sent her back" by the packed arena but will accept the crazed statements made by the congress women. mainstream media has become a part of the radical left democrat party. it's a sick partnership, so pathetic to watch. they even cover add tiny stage crowd as they greeted foul-mo h foul-mouthfoul-mout
9:03 am
foul-mouthed ilhan. all right. is that it? i love the dramatic reading of the tweets. it's something. what do you think, guy? >> this is a squabble that is not going away. it works for both sides. >> for everybody. >> the squad loves hammering trump and trump realizes tying them to the democratic party at large is beneficial to them. we'll read more of these from the president, seeing these types of sound bites from omar. i would point out to her and i fell like some of the things were totally inappropriate, but for many americans, their worst nightmare is not a woman of color or a somali refugee coming to america and getting elected to congress. the worst nightmare are the disastrous policies that she supports and her bigotry, which is nightmarish for americans and particularly jews. so she can cast herself as a hero. that works for her and her base.
9:04 am
what she and her team represent is something that i think on a policy level quite dangerous. >> you talked about her bigotry. that's where a lot of the irony lies, capri. she's talking about the mosaic fabric. he doesn't like it. and saying that he's a racist, but she's the one, you know, who has been quite outspoken in her anti-semitism. >> this is where democrats have lost credibility here. they were not forceful enough when they had that resolution that was sort of -- came about because of the anti-semitic remarks of representative omar and they watered it down. i been very outspoken again about my criticism of her anti-semitic remarks. i've said so publicly many times and on foxnews.com and articles. here's where president trump is giving them ammunition.
9:05 am
when things like the send her back chant occurs or some tweets, which have been denounced and he's tried to distance himself from that. when those things happen, it gives the squad an opportunity to say this isn't just about socialism versus capitalism or policy and ideology differences this is about us versus them and the other versus the rest of america. i think that's what they're trying to do. i'm not saying it's right. that's what they're trying to convey. >> can i ask a quick follow up to that? why is it that the so-called squad won't take a win? they could look at this -- >> they love the camera. >> yes. but that's -- a lot of people on capitol hill like that. but when you look at what happened yesterday with the president, the president didn't just disavow the chant "send her back." he stepped it up. hogan gidley was on with me, doubling down on stepping it up. it is movement to hear the
9:06 am
president and hits team say not only do we disavow that but if and when it happens again, the president will tamp it down. >> we'll wait and see if he does. >> so my point is, this is an opportunity for those people that say they care about the words he's using. for those people to say maybe we moved the needle with him a little bit. >> we'll see if it happens again. >> that gets us to less of a hate tone and more of a purpose tone and moves us forward. all of those issues that melissa ticks off daily so finely and so rightly are still sitting there to be talked about. >> i want to piggyback off of something that capri said. i don't think this is a good week for the president. 68% of americans found his tweets to be offensive. 43% of republicans found them offensive. the reason why president trump
9:07 am
is in office is because of his pro america message. saying "send her back" is not pro american. it gave ocasio-cortez and ilhan a chance to say why they went to washington d.c. >> they couldn't have done that on their own? >> i'm not -- >> that's a fair question. >> it gave them an opportunity with that press conference to focus on that. >> okay. >> it also -- >> coming up with ideas for the border would be a way to show you love the country. >> i'm not saying this is anything to do about their policy or how they feel about america. this was a self-inflicted wound by the president. he needs to be careful. >> let's listen to alexandria ocasio-cortez and what she said about this yesterday. >> it's taken us 240 years for us to have this unique composite of a congress in this moment.
9:08 am
we will not go back. we will not go back, we will go forward. but we sure as hell will not standstill. >> when you listen to that, guys, what has been set up here is very clear. it's the crystallization of what is coming down the road. it's this choice between this group and this socialism on the left and the president and his policies. all of this you're not hearing from any of the 2020 candidates. they're totally knocked out of the conversation. you could stop people on the street and ask them for running for president on the democratic side, some people would say they are. they would be confused. >> they're not old enough. >> i think what is interesting about this broader conversation and the debates now that we're having because of this feud back and forth.
9:09 am
you asked why can't they take a win? seems like the squad might have the upper hand on the president and then the next day ilhan omar says i'm going to sponsor bds, which is an anti semitic fundamentally movement against israel. it's been called anti-semitic by chuck schumer, called hateful and dangerous by nancy pelosi. she comes out the next day and says i'm going to be the lead sponsor. >> those are the things that president trump needs to be tweeting about. >> not identity. >> exactly. >> it would be a major win for the president. >> and my question is, what is next for the squad. if i'm a democrat at this point, why is it just them against the president? we have 25 candidates or so -- >> 340 -- >> north of two dozen candidates running from our party and all of the rest of the democrats on the hill, but these are the

expressed at the chanted of "send her back" of the equivalent of an apology. let's hope his supporters get the message and mr. trump steps egging them on. here's mr. trump with the comments that the journal and politco see differently. >> i was not happy with that chant. i'd suggest you go there, you go to north carolina and ask the people why they said that. that's what they said. >> will you stop them if they did it again? >> i didn't like that they did it and i started speaking quickly. i was not happy with it. i disagree with it. i didn't say that. they did. >> i would just add that he did admit another mistake. he admitted it to me in the white house. it was a mistake to hire michael cohen. he said that clearly. that was the first time we said wow! yeah, he acknowledged it. some gop members got together early yesterday morning and the white house did hear from some
9:12 am
republicans. >> so capri and i were on your panel yesterday on o.t. as it broke. the president is the only person in the country with the power to put a stop to this type of stuff among his own supporters. he did make similar noises in 2016 over "lock her up", that chant, which is not as bad nearly as -- she said oh, i didn't like it and i disagree. i hope if this comes up again, which fingers crossed it won't, he will intervene personally to put an end to it. i think he did what he had to do yesterday and hopefully we'll follow-through. >> a lot of times people thinks he needs to walk things back. he doesn't do it. >> he did it here. >> i know. that's what i'm saying. i agree with the "wall street journal" where i think it is the moral equivalent of an apology for him. because he doesn't do that. >> can i point out that the
9:13 am
apology was a good move. but he can't of took a step back a couple hours ago on twitter when he said the tweet that you read in the intro, it's amazing how the fake news media became crazed over the chant "send her back" but is calm and accepting over the vile statements they made. he's trying to make a comparison between the way media tweets him and the democrats. but saying they became crazed implies that he doesn't understand why it was -- >> or even more so, some -- he's listening to someone, which is again very rare, president trump usually beats to his own drum. he must have listened to somebody say this is a bridge too far. decided that he was going to walk it back. i think this was a calculated move. because i think if it was not a strategic move, he would have tweeted it out on the tarmac in north carolina that he didn't like it rather than wait another day.
9:14 am
>> i'm going to give you last word, guy. >> we can criticize whether it took him too long or the tweet today. the point that he's making about the media is true. right? there was an enormous amount of attention paid to chanting by some people at his rally far more i think indignant and furious from the press than any of this coverage -- >> but he keeps tweeting about it and call it crazed -- >> the point is there's not similarly paid attention paid to ilhan omar and rasheeda talib making bigoted remarks about the jewish people. >> i promised you last word. we'll move. we're going to tell you what we're about to see and hear. we're awaiting remarks from the president. reporters have been called to the oval office where the president is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the apollo 11 moon landing.
9:15 am
wait till you hear who he has in the oval office. >> it's tomorrow, saturday. >> he's commemorating it today. he has special people in the oval office today. when we see him today, live in a few minutes, we'll take you there today. the stage is set for the second democratic presidential debate with the line-ups for the democrats. who sits where? will there be fireworks when joe biden and kamala harris face off? and the democrats are getting their a game plan for robert mueller's testimony. republicans are vowing tough questions about the doj's and fbi's actions in all of this. so what exactly will we learn from robert mueller? and how will president trump react? >> what happened to me with this witch hunt should never be allowed to happen to another president of the united states

leadership in the house, i said look, how does that make you feel? that's akin to saying you're not black enough. if you don't agree with them. that is so offensive. that actually is xenophobic and has racially related -- i don't know if i call it racist. i'd like to talk to them one-on-one. >> would you say it's anti-american sentiment? we've been talking about how the president has been saying things that have been deemed that. i think you could -- >> oh, i want to talk with him. i reach out. >> in that screen she said she didn't want to hear from "queers" that don't want to be the queer voice that she likes. i was like oh, that's interesting. being lectured how you're supposed to think about talk based on the progressive roles. that is absolutely -- >> i didn't know that. >> it's okay for her to use it. she's an ally or whatever. >> wow. >> guy, i'm sorry.

obviously, but had some questions from reporters about news of the day. he did address the back and forth that is going on with the squad and the chanting at the rally and asked if he's still disappointed about the -- what the audience did in that state. so talking a lot about that and also went on to talk about iran and the drone that was brought down in the strait of hormuz that was near a u.s. ship. i ran denied it at this point. so he's been asked about that, where our military jammed the signal. iran denied it wassers that and saying the u.s. shot down their own drone. we'll play them for you soon. in the meantime, broadway legend patty lipone made what many say

is a homophobic attack over senator lindsey graham. she started with trump but took an ugly personal turn with her tweeting -- >> even trump critic expressing their outrage. journalists tweeting -- >> this from a twitter user -- >> what do you think? >> yashar ali, he's an honest broker. he's right to point out this is just textbook gay baiting from someone on the left that like ayanna presley feels like she's entitled to do this because she's on the right team. may she can be an honorary member of the squad here.

disappointing to see. hopefully she will come to her senses to use her phrase and apologize that is outside the bounds of appropriate political discussion. >> what do you think? >> ilhan omar did something similar at the beginning of the year. it was after she got sworn in and she made these insinuating comments in some interview about lindsey graham. >> that he was being blackmailed. >> which she said isn't what she meant. >> which is another lie. >> this is such a bridge too far. i agree with you guys. i'll leave it at that. i think more people will come out against this as they read the tweet and as it goes virals. i'm sure an apology tweet will taps in a it should. somebody needs to write a book about keyboard courage and the psychology behind it. so many grown men and women have

had their careers destroyed over saying something entirely ridiculous on social media. this is a shame. >> can i say that apparently some of the stories about this little back and forth describe this woman as a guy icon. i don't know who she is. >> she's a very famous broadway actress. again, here we are talking about an actress. >> who cares? >> super talented. >> and alissa milano is having a fund raiser for mary ann will m williams williamson. >> there's a difference between celebrities, we're listening to them about politics and we're like why are we doing this? >> exactly. >> in any way, we'll hear in a short time now from the white house about we're going to get the playback remarks coming out in a short time from now.

the president once again was in the oval office and he was commemorating the 50th anniversary of the landing on the moon. he got asked about the chanting, send her back, that happened at the rally. he brings back the idea that the coverage isn't fair. when the squad says things that are outrageous, the media doesn't get as upset as opposed to when he says something like that. >> i'm not sure what was said. i like to know what the exact question was asked of him. i feel like he's addressed this multiple times. to keep -- like in a courtroom you'd said asked and answered. next question. >> maybe they'll ask him about what ilhan omar said yesterday when she got that warm welcome. >> we're going to get to hear the exact question as guy requested right now as we get ready to play back the tape. let's listen. >> you know what? i'm going to have to agree with the fact that a congresswoman

can hate our country. i'm unhappy with the fact that a congresswoman can say anti-semitic things. i'm unhappy with the fact that a congresswoman in this case, a different congresswoman, can call our country and our people garbage. that's what i'm unhappy with. those people in north carolina, that stadium was packed. it was a record crowd. i could have filled it ten times as you know. those are incredible people. those are incredible patriots. but i'm happy when a congresswoman goes and says, i'm going to be the president's nightmare. she's going to be the president's nightmare. she's lucky to be where she is, let me tell you. the things that she has said are a disgrace to our country. thank you very much, everybody. >> you have an update on this

asap rocket -- >> asap is in sweden. they're a great country. they're friends of mine. we're going to be calling -- we'll talk to them. we already started. many, many members of the african american community have called friends of mine and said can you help. so i personally don't know asap, rocky, but i can tell you that he has tremendous support from the african american community in this country. when i say african american, i think i can really say from everybody in this country because we're all one. i have been called by so many people asking me to help asap rocky. the one that knew about him first was our first lady. she told me, can you help asap rocky? you want to give a statement on that? >> well, i've been working with the state department. we called to get him home soon. >> we'll see.

we've had a very good relationship with sweden. he's being held in sweden. we've had a very good relationship in sweden. that's it. thank you all very much. hopefully we're in good shape on the debt ceiling. i can't imagine anybody ever using the debt ceiling as a negotiating wedge. when i first came into office. i asked about the debt ceiling. i understand them. i understand the highest rated credit ever in history. i said -- i remember to senator schumer and to nancy pelosi, would anybody ever use that to negotiate with? they said absolutely not. that's a sacred element of our country. they can't use the debt creeling to negotiate. don't forget, president obama during his eight years, he created -- he doubled the debt. you take every president, every
10:00 am
president prior to president obama, he took and doubled the debt over $10 trillion. not a b. not a million, not a billion. president obama put $10 trillion and doubled the debt. it was a 10 and went to above 20. some of it is attributed to him that i assume. so when they start talking about using the debt ceiling as a wedge to negotiate or things that they want, they have told me very strongly that they would never use that. that is a very sacred thing in our country, debt ceiling. we can never play with it. so i have to assume we're in great shape. remember also, the previous administration doubled the debt in our country. you take all of the presidents that came before, double the debt. pretty big statement. it's a big statement to be
