and australian lucas fowler were murdered while traveling. aishah hasnie joins us with the latest details. police are releasing new photos in the search for the suspect. >> reporter: yes, they are. the families are worried there's a killer on the loose in canada as they come to terms with the brutal murders. 24-year-old china dese from north carolina and her 23-year-old boyfriend, lucas fowler, were found dead on the side of a highway in british columbia. a woman claiming to have seen the couple said their van broke down sunday on the side of the highway and she asked the couple if they needed help. lucas' father said we're just in a very bad place. to add to the mystery. australian media reporting that police found another man dead not far away on the same road next to a vehicle.

china's brother said he's worried there's a killer on the loose. >> this isn't enough. this is not enough and there's a huge safety concern for people traveling in canada, around that area this summer and right now. >> reporter: canadian authorities are saying this is not related to the murdered couple. >> there's nothing to indicate that their deaths are linked to any other active and ongoing investigations in the area of the province or there's a heightened risk to public safety. >> reporter: we don't know how china or lucas died. the families say they were told they wouldn't be able to have open casket funerals. heather: much more to come on this for sure. thank you so much. well, a massive protest is expected in puerto rico today as the governor refuses to resign.

president trump vowing to meet with senate majority leader chuck schumer as soon as possible after his visit to the southern border. this comes as mexico ignores today's deadline to make an asylum deal with the u.s. griff jenkins joins us live in washington with how the trump administration is reacting. good morning, griff. >> reporter: good morning. perhaps the start of talks towards bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform. we'll see. the president tweeted this last night. senator chuck schumer has finally gone to the southern border. he missed a large group of illegal immigrants trying to enter the u.s. illegally. they rushed and border patrol agents were injured. he must have seen how dangerous and bad for our country the border is. it is not a manufactured crisis, it's the fake news media and their democratic partners are trying to portray.

schumer and a dozen other democratic senators toured a texas detention facility last friday, blasting the conditions. this comes as mexico appears to have avoide avoided the deal one border. mike pompeo met with mexico's foreign minister, highlighting mexico's efforts including deploying mexican national guard troops and accepting 20,000 immigrants seeking asylum in the u.s. after the meeting, pompeo had this to say. >> we've got a long way to go. there's much more work to do. i'll talk with the president and the team back in washington and we'll decide exactly which tools and exactly how to proceed. >> reporter: right now mexico avoids being designated as a safe third country, that's where negotiations were back in june.

that would make mexico accept most asylum seekers. they would have to apply for asylum in mexico rather than the u.s. we'll see what secretary pompeo has to say this morning when he appears on "fox & friends" at 7:00 a.m., very fluid situation we need i think three different countries to agree to do that. griff jenkins live for us. thank you. heather: this is another big story happening this week. democrats speaking out ahead of robert l mule r's testimony on the -- mueller's testimony on the hill this week. jerry nadler insists the russia report lace the ground work for impeachment proceedings against the president. >> the report suggests substantial evidence that the president is guilty of crimes. we need to present the facts to the american people and see where we go from there. heather: republicans say that's not on the minds of most americans. >> any thought of impeachment is

waning and they know that because the report said there was no collusion and no obstruction. the mueller report is a one-sided report that's not been qaiquestioned from the other si. heather: mueller will testify this wednesday on the russia investigation. congressman mark greene, member of the house oversight committee, says the russia report doesn't matter to democrats. he says they just want more screen time to push their 2020 narrative. >> i think that's ridiculous, like he's done this exhaustive report for the justice department and he's suddenly going to provide more details. that would either admit he failed in doing a comprehensive report or he was intentionally trying to do something like that. it's ridiculous to thinks he's going to come up with more details than he did in a two-year investigation and an official report to the justice department. that's what this is about. it's more tv for those guys to advance their 2020 narrative. that's all the democrats want

out of this. heather: some democrats vowing to keep trying to impeach the president, despite their own party's majority voting down their efforts. let's talk about the extreme weather now. today, flash flooding and damaging winds are threatening several states across the u.s. forecasters sending the warning as a cold front passes through the midwest and northeast. it's expected to cool off nearly 200 million people as the heat wave comes to an end, blamed for at least six deaths. the heat is linked to major power outages, one forcing an evacuation a at a philadelphia retirement community, the other left nearly 50,000 new yorkers in the dark. roads were left buckled in south dakota from the extreme heat. eight people were injured when lightning struck a crowded florida beach. one man is in critical condition after taking a direct hit from the lightning. witnesslessrushed onto the beach in the middle of the storm to

dramatic moments before an oil tanker was seized in the strait of hou hormuz. how should the u.s. respond? jim hanson joins us right now. listening to the audiotape, does that tell you anything more about iran's intentions? >> i think iran's intentions are perfectly clear and it's kind of a joke for them to claim that we're trying to drag the u.k. into the war. this seems to be a pretty one-sided attempt by them to provoke some sort of military action so they can scary guess ththe europeans and everyone el. it's been a month plus of a wave of attacks across the region. they've hit oil tankers, pipelines, civilian airports and president trump has been listening to his allies and advisors who have been counseling restraint but thus far that hasn't worked. heather: you referenced this, so let's bring this you up from

iran's foreign minister, saying that the u.k. is being dragged into the war of the century by john bolton, they say make no mistake, having failed to lure donald trump into the war of the century and fearing collapse of his b team, ambassador john bolton is turning his venom against the u.k. in hopes of dragging it into a quagmire. only prudence and foresight can thwart such employs such ploys. what do you think of that? >> the bottom line is the u.k. is leaderless right now. theresa may is no longer really in charge and they need to get their hostages out. that's the first thing. there's hostages on the tanker. once that is done, it's time for the u.s. and the u.k. to show iran that they cannot shut down and menace shipping in the gulf. i think we need a no float, no fly zone through the shipping lanes there and say if a boat, a drone, a helicopter or any piece

of iranian military equipment leaves the coast of one of their island bases, we blow it up. that's the message they need to get. heather: at last report, you mentioned those hostages, that ship, which the u.k. ship was a swedish owned ship, had 23 crew members on-board, including indians, philippinos and russians. will that change things? >> i think those people's lives matter. i think we don't want to take action until we negotiate, probably the brits negotiate that release. one it's done, it's time for the iranians to pay a price. thus far, our actions have been self-defense confidencive. we've done nothing to make them pay for the attacks they've conducted. it's time for some of those iranian military assets to turn into smoldering wreckage. heather: what do you mean by

after they were found murdered on the side of a highway. police believe that north carolina res chin resident chins and her boyfriend lucas fowler were killed when their car broke down in canada. massive protests expected in puerto rico today after the governor refuses to resign. hundreds of thousands of people are expected to take over one of the island's busiest roads, hoping to convince the governor to step down. and today late justice john paul stevens will lie in repose at the u.s. supreme court. stevens served more than three decades on the bench before retiring in 2010. he is known for authoring the decision in 2004 to give prisoners in guantanamo bay the right to plead for their release in u.s. court. the funeral will b be tomorrow. all eyes on robert mueller as he heads to capitol hill this week

for one of the most anticipated days. >> the report presents a very substantial evidence that the president is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors and we have to let mueller present those facts to the american people and then see where we go from there because the administration must be held accountable. heather: but could democrats turn this into a 2020 campaign event? here to debate, daniel turner, president of power the future and mark levine, member of the virginia house of delegates. thank you for joining us. daniel, i'll start with you. do you think that democrats will turn into this a 2020 event? >> absolutely. it makes sense for them to try to do so because they don't have much else to run on and this is what they've been doing since 2016. i think the risk that both sides run here is that in recent polling there's been no interest clearly in impeachment so that's a democrat problem but for both sides, i saw a poll where 40% of

the people who were polled never even heard of robert mueller. so there is a large middle america that really does not care about this and if either republicans or democrats try to play this too hard they could be speaking to a group of people that's not listening. heather: mark, what do you think about that? could they turn voters off if they just kind of turn it into too much of a show? >> i think daniel's right that most americans are ignorant of the mueller report. they don't know what's in it. they haven't read the 448 pages. i think americans have a right to know if their president is committing criminal acts. the attorney general lied and that's what robert mueller said. the attorney general lied when he said the president is not guilty. there's damning evidence of impeachable evidence in the report. this is a way to bring this criminal information to the american public. heather: i thought what he in fact said was that the ag or the media had misinterpreted what

several fans being hit by balls. what about this, a texas officer getting in on some fun a little bit while responding to annoys -- to a noise complaint. the officer was caught riding a mechanical bull with ease, pretty good there. he appears to stay on for about 30 seconds before falling off. this was at a birthday party in east texas. the demen department writing on facebook, they suspect the officer may have experience on this. the video is going viral. it's 20 minutes before the top of the hour. bad booze kills 19 people in costa rica. it turns out it was tainted with a toxin found in anti-h antifre. could this have any link to the mysterious deaths in the dominican republic. our next guest compares the cases.

heather: welcome back. a national alert issued in costa rica where 19 people have died after drinking alcohol that was tainted with toxic levels of methanol. 30,000 bottles have been confiscated involving several different brands that may be tainted. here to weigh is in dr. parumpul from the nyu school of medicine, associate professor. thank you so much for joining us. what do we know about these latest cases from costa rica and what the alcohol is tainted with? >> well, this product methanol is a type of alcohol. so the one that we drink is called ethanol. that basically makes you feel a little buzzed, little more relaxed. methanol is used in wiper fluid to clean windshields, it's used for solvents. heather: and met thol methanols

been found in this. >> exactly. it is a type of alcohol. most likely this is a manufacturing error, when they were trying to make the ethanol, they accidentally made methanol. this can happen in counterfeit liquors, it can happen by accident, although it's very uncommon. it can happen in cases of poisoning. the times you hear about this is if a toddler gets into some type of solvent. the problem with methanol is that it's so much more dangerous than alcohol. it can make you blind. it can damage your kidneys. you might not even realize this at first and then you can die. even 30 milliliters which is two-thirds of a shot glass, that's enough to cause permanent blindblindness. heatherwe wantblindness. heather: heather: they say the ministry of health continues to carry out operations in order to reduce the exposure of consumers to contaminated products. did i hear you say this could have happened by accident? >> it could happen by accident. i would say for people here,

let's say they're buying alcohol from the store, a major brand, it's not something they have to really worry about. in costa rica, these look like they're more local or regional brands, so maybe they might have had some error in the manufacturing process. heather: obviously everyone's mind goes straight to what's been reported lately in the dominican republic where at least six of the 14 deceased american tourists consumed some type of alcohol while there, a lot of them from the mini bar. do you think this could be related, maybe this would be one of the causes of the deaths there? >> it's possible. one of the other things they're looking at there is a different type of poisoning, so related to something called organophosphates, that's something in pesticides. some people drank from the mini bar. other people had other symptoms that you wouldn't necessarily see with methanol poisoning. it's possible there was an overlap. authorities will have to look to

see are all the deaths related or could it be different things or different clusters with different causes. >> maria: with the methanol in terms of- heather: with the methanol, in terms of symptoms, they can be later, after the fact. >> exactly. let's say you drink too much alcohol you might know within a couple hours that you're really sick. methanol, you might not realize it right away. it can happen days later. it's because the liver is trying to get rid of methanol and converts it into something that's more dangerous. you could have headache, abdominal pain. unless you thought you had some other issue, you might just think you're sick, you're on vacation or you ate something wrong. heather: it's scary stuff, it really is. thank you so much. we appreciate you joining us. have a good day. >> you too. heather: bernie sanders is making the fight for 15 one of his 2020 rally calls. >> because we're going to raise the minimum wage to a living wage. we've got to raise the minimum

he was not happy about it. bernie sanders is paying his campaign staffers the same minimum wage he wants to give all americans, $15 an hour. but that pay raise comes with a huge catch. tracee carrasco from our sister network fox business is here with how he's now cutting hours. good morning, tracee. >> last week, the washington post reported that sanders feels staffers were upset that he's really been pushing the $15 minimum wage an hour all while his staffers are not making that much. sanders did say, though, that his staffers earn roughly $36,000 salary but when you break that down, they do earn about $15 an hour. however, they have to work about 40 hours a week and as we know on the presidential campaign trail, a lot of these staffers are working many more hours than that, surpassing 40 plus hours a week. so that does break down to less than $15 an hour. all of this while sanders

rallied against a lot of big corporations like amazon and walmart, calling them out, saying they pay their workers starvation wages a and he essentially, these employees of his are saying he's doing the same thing. so sanders says we're going to be cutting their hours to make sure they work about 42, 43 hours a week so they can essentially make $15 an hour. he did say i, quote, i am proudo be the first presidential candidate to recognize a union and negotiate a union contract. it not only provides pay of at least $15 an hour, it also provides i think the best health care benefits any employer can provide for our field organizers. heather: apparently he wasn't paying 100% health care for those employees making less than $60,000 and so that was another thing they were asking for. will be interesting to see what he does on that front. let's talk about this. the world's busiest airport is about to ban smoking? >> yes, we're talking about hartsfield-jackson atlanta international airport. they're going to get rid of its dozen or so smoke lounges by
