supporters is found himself in a compensation controversy. rob: does what happened with his campaign prove that a $15 minimum wage could be an economic disaster? melissa, thanks for coming on this morning. using committing this with his campaign staffers meaning he has to cut back hours. the congressional budget office did a report on what would happen throughout the country and that look at that. it shows on average it could cost 1.3 million american jobs. has what happened with bernie sanders's campaign foreshadowing this? >> differently and indicative to what would happen to businesses. if you increase the cost of your payroll that is usually the largest expense for a business unless you own real estate. the money has to come from somewhere, you won't drop out of the sky. if businesses have to pay more are either going to cut back hours like what is happening with bernie sanders at staffers or they will have to increase

the quality of what they are selling. the money has to come from somewhere. to the point that the minimum wage has to be increased, no one who can live on $15 an hour, even if we increase it to that, that is $300 a week. you could not survive in new york city on $300 a week and to be honest with you i don't think anyone can let alone if you had a family even if you were single. the idea of the minimum wage is a starter job, graduate college, graduate high school, started position. it is not supposed to be something you live on the rest of your life, it isn't even a living wage at $15 an hour. jillian: bernie sanders the vending staff compensation, $36,000 a year with 100% employer paid health care as well as paid vacation and sick leave. staff are working 40 hours a week, that comes out to $17 an hour but 40 hour work weeks in presidential campaigns are rare. the number of our staffers work,

assuring they are making the equivalent of $15 an hour. is this going to be the thing we look back and say a year from now this came back to bite him? >> i don't think it is a good idea the way he is coming about. he had a good philosophy and they have great ideas but where is the money going to come from? somebody has to pay for it in his campaign can't even support paying for it so how will it be especially a small business and even big businesses like amazon are going to cut corners. the money has to come from somewhere. rob: what this will get it is there is a struggle in this country with the cost of living rising faster than wages and that is the grander scheme to take care of with talk like this. what is the right answer to q to that problem? >> people have to educate themselves get better paying jobs.

find jobs where you can get bonuses, say you have a salary position in a 40 grand a year, find a job that will pay you a bonus if you work overtime or bring certain sales -- you could make bonuses if your salary is 40 grandeur you could make 20,000 a year in bonuses and you are at 60,000, that is a lot better, 32,000, 40,000. i think people ideally, these minimum wage jobs set out to help people start out, the best thing people can do is work hard, find better jobs, don't give up. if you are having a hard time finding a good job, keep going. jillian: your reaction, we expect to hear from robert mueller this week. it will be a big newsweek but what does this do to the markets this week? >> it will be a very interesting day like a federal reserve day where the fed says they will raise rates or drop rates because the market is going to be wild. that being said, long-term i don't think this will negatively affect the market but on
