laws. victor davis hanson is a senior fellow at the hoover institution, and we always appreciate his insights. victor, kamala harris has compared i.c.e. to the ku klux klan, and marianne williamson, another presidential candidate, has said these i.c.e. raids are like the nazis rounding up jews in the 1930s. >> yes. remember, mark, that aoc said they set up concentration camps. they have, so they must be nazis. we know what we are supposed to do about nazis. but we are told by the left not to connect violence to political rhetoric in some cases. when trump said the word "invasion," they connectedor to the deaths in el paso. in this case, this was a targeted ambush.

it wasn't a mass shooting, and was the tacoma incident. and it comes on the wake of a lot of people that are running for president who, as i said, want to abolish i.c.e. or reform it is such a degree that it would be impotent, or we should remember, as well, that i.c.e. agents are persona non grata in most states and cities and jurisdictions. 500 of them. there has been a dehumanization at depersonalization of these very heroic people that keep us secure appear the question is, mark, why is it happening now, this spate of attacks? the answer is i.c.e. is starting to turn the corner, because they are starting to deport people who have criminal records, we are not issuing green cards to people who are going right onto public assistance. he redefined refugee status. mexico is helping out. some of the central american governments are feeling theen ht and are worried about exporting human capital. and i think the result is we are about 25% down in crossings, and

up on apprehensions. that should be good news. but we've got to remember where we are in this jacobin party that took over the old old the democratic party. open borders are central to their electoral college strategies. they want to change the electric. they are panicking. >> mark: this demonization, do you think it's a good thing? if you genuinely think as these presidential candidates and democrats, that these are nazis rounding up people for concentration camps, then you are morally obligated, presumably, to taunt low-level bureaucrats with the fact you know where they sleepe at night, you know where their kids go to school. you know what pets they have and what food their pets eat.

do you think it's actually a good faith assault? or do you think it's entirely cynical, victor? >> well, i think it's very dangerous. notice, mark, that while most of these candidates on the left weigh in on almost every shooting, we haven't seen them weigh into any significant degree to stop it. because they could say, my opposition to some of the practices of i.c.e. is not commensurate with trying to destroy i.c.e. offices. especially, they could say that, because they told us again and again that rhetoric can incite violence, at least in some cases. but they are not doing that, it's almost as if they feel that these attacks on the i.c.e. offices o might deter a little t the purview of i.c.e., and that might spike illegal immigration up a " bit. i'm trying to be blunt, but i really do believe that they feel that illegal immigration has flipped california, colorado,

new mexico, nevada, and it's a central to the future of the progressive movement. they are pretty open and candid about that. >> mark: if it flips texas, they win the electoral college now and forever. >> they do. and one way of taking texas is saying that anybody who enforces border security supports i.c.e. is tantamount to a nazi, and if you're tantamount to a nazi, we know what we should do with you. they are prepping the battlefield so people don't speak out against this. >> mark: professor, thank you. congresswoman and want to be revolutionary alexandria ocasio-cortez has done more than anyone to vilify i.c.e., as i just heard from victor, she has accused them of running concentration camps at the border . >> the united states is running concentration camps on our southern border. and that is exactly what they are.

♪ >> this is a fox news alert from fox news headquarters. i am aisha haas name. a tense, dramatic situation unfolding involving a barricaded gunman who is accused of shooting and injuring several police officers. at this hour, we have just gotten word that the suspect is now in police custody. again, this after an hour's long standoff. you are looking at the video of

the suspect with his hands up as he surrenders to police, just happened about 10 minutes ago. all of this happening at a neighborhood of brick and stone homes and a part of the city known as nice time tioga. for a while, two officers were trapped in the same building where the suspected gunman was holed up, but they safely were taken out just before 10:00 eastern time by police and their s.w.a.t. teams. earlier, six officers hit by gunfire, and they have since been treated and released from the two nearby hospitals in philadelphia. one other officer was hurt in a car accident as he raced to that scene. philadelphia police commissioner richard ross telling us at this moment, all of this unfolded around 4:30 this afternoon as officers were serving a narcotics warrant at the house. they had already entered when gunfire erupted. ross says the gunman fired multiple rounds, officers returned fire, there was a

shoot-out. many had to escape through windows, jumped out of windows and doors to get away from the barrage of bullets. and throughout the evening, we've been watching this unfold live on tv, and the suspect continued to shoot at police every now and then from the windows of the home, ignoring repeated efforts by police to try to communicate with him by phone, even trying to have them talk to his own family. at the same time, officers rushed to evacuate the neighborhood, trying to protect passersby from the barrage of bullets, and temple university also locked down part of its campus and several children and staff were trapped, pretty much, for some time in a nearby day care. police tried to push crowds of onlookers and residents back from the scene, and police radio broadcast officers could be heard calling for backup as reports of officers and getting shot continued to pour in here this was a dramatic scene.

dozens lining the street as this unfolded, watching and waiting. some in cars, others on horseback. city police also assisted by agents from the department of alcohol, tobacco, and firearms -- atf. all of this coming as the nation is still reeling from two recent gun massacres that claimed a total of 31 lives in el paso, texas, and dayton, ohio. again, this latest gun violence isn't likely to fuel the growing calls for congress to do something about the accessibility of guns in our nation for just recapping for you, a philadelphia gunman who allegedly shot a six police officers and then held authorities at bay for hours upon hours now finally in custody. this finally ending in a peaceful resolution. no shoot-out. he, as you saw it right there in that video from philly, put his hands up and walked out the front door of that house that he was holed up in four hours.

girlfriend and alleged predator and supplier of girls, ghislaine maxwell. monica lindstrom is a former prosecutor and defense attorney, and she joins us now. first of all, on the criminal business, monica, do you think any of these -- any potential criminal cases against ghislaine maxwell or anybody else are actually going to go anywhere, or is that just all going to fade away now? >> i think with law enforcement being so zeroed in and focused on this epstein investigation, that it's very possible that criminal charges could come out against the coconspirators and others involved. there has been talk about the 2007 plea agreement that epstein signed that allegedly, basically gave immunity to his coconspirators. that plea agreement has a lot of issues, and it might end up getting thrown out, so that might be the only hurdle that

law enforcement has against the coconspirators. >> mark: well, you are a former prosecutor, i know i'm just a layman, but that plea agreement reads very wacky to me, that the united states not only cuts a deal with this guy, but absolves any potential house he might have had to. >> you know, out of all of the plea agreements that i've written and offered, never once did i say -- i don't recall anybody ever putting down that we won't go after coconspirators. especially when they are not part of the plea agreement itself. it's almost like they are a third-party beneficiary toe this contract between the state andnd the defendant. but what we do know is that plea agreement really violated the law, because thehe victims had o idea what was going on. so like i said, that could end up getting thrown out, and i think law enforcement is so focused on these coconspirators that they should be pretty worried right now. >> mark: just very quickly, monica, the civil case. lower burden of proof, are they

right in the middle of broad street. that is it ohr behind me. we are in the north part of the city. the scene is just a couple of blocks down erie in that direction, you see a massive, massive turn out the police here. this standoff has been going on for some four hours now. there are six police officers who have been shot so far, and three others who were injured in car crashes. responding to the scene. and as far as we know, negotiations are ongoing with the gunman, but mark, i've just been in touch with a police source who tells me that the s.w.a.t. team actually tried to make entry to the location where the suspect has a weapon, has apparently been live streaming as he is shooting at officers of the window and through the ceiling to a couple of officers who are pinned down upstairs. i'm told the s.w.a.t. team tried to make entry and had to retreat because of the heavy gunfire coming from the suspect, who is armed with an ar-15, i'm told, as well as several handguns. i'm also told a girlfriend is

a dvd -- whatever it is you want, there is no no more brick-and-mortar, why is the last n brick-and-mortar thing literally bricks and mortar's from 300 years ago? >> tucker: has anybody provided a good answer to that question that you've heard? >> no, but i don't -- i think the notion of college is sort of like, when we grew up, you go out to breakfast, they put a sprig of parsley by the side of the plate, and you go, why do you do that? and they go, because that's what you do. and you go, does anyone eat the parsley? no. does anyone want the parsley? no. does anyone enjoy the parsley? no. so why do we put the parsley? because that's what you do. and then at some point, 1988, the parsley went away, and nobody was outraged. nobody went well, where is the parsley? how my supposed to enjoy my meal without parsley? he w just went away, nobody knew it. i feel like college -- i feel like we could do that with college. if you want to be a doctor or an oral surgeon, renal's caveats,

you need training. science, t engineering, whateve. but for just the humanities and general education and all that kind of stuff, that's the parsley by the side of the plate. >> tucker: do you think -- so your kids will go off, if they follow the normal script in about five years. do you think five years from now, we will havee reached the point where they will say to you, i'm not that interested? i want to go work? >> i think my daughter, who is much more interested in the social experience, we want to go. i think my son, who who is a le more, sort of brass tacks, will see that there is not that much benefit in sort of kicking around for a four years and building up debt. so i think my daughter will want to have that social experience, which is, why wouldn't you? i mean, like, it's like fyre festival for four years -- if it worked.
