3:05 am
jedediah: right. initially they were denied entrance. remember, we are talking about rasheda tlaib and representative omar who are part of the bdf movement. unapologetic supporting that. there were questions about what their motivation would be. there was a delegation of republicans and democrats that went to israel just recently and they opted not to go. they said you know what? we are going to go separately and many were questioning why, what the motivation was the way it was billed it was labeled as a trip to palestine which cass controversial right from the outset. and then she replies to this letter as you say and she says listen i really want to go visit my grandma. sure, come on a humanitarian basis as long as you are not going to make this into a political battle she goes oh, never mind. now it looks like it was this giants setup. one person who has commented on it is president trump coming out and tweeting representative tlaib wrote a letter to israeli officials desperately wanting to visit her grandmother. permission was quickly granted where upon tlaib

obnoxiously turned the approval down, a complete setup. the only real winner here is tlaib's grandmother. she doesn't have to see her now. todd: always a zinger at the end. we all have grandmothers. we all love our grandmothers and see them obviously before they pass. what's so interesting is the israel foreign interior minister he so unequivocally said what so many were thinking. i approved her request as a gesture of goodwill on a humanitarian basis. that's the key phrase there but it was just a provocative request aimed at bashing the state of israel. apparently her hate for israel overcomes her love for her grandmother. israel, no matter what you think of the lead-up to that they did offer this humanitarian gesture of goodwill, an olive branch if you will. she threw it in her face and threw her grandmother under the bus in the process. jedediah: leader, organize everything of their particular trip that the two of them were going to take

dramatic turn towards violence, but she insists the city is ready. >> the members of the portland police bureau have already put hundreds of hours of planning into our response to demonstrations scheduled for august 17. reporter: this weekend's events have city planners briefing for right wing extremists as well as antifa counter protesters. the poverty of law center says they anticipate a crowd that may be similar to the one that gathered two years ago in charlottesville, virginia when protests there tragically turned deadly. back to you guys. griff: thank you. jedediah: such a scary reality now that you have this protest going on and protest is a corner stone of our republic and you think people just are expecting and people here it's just the last protest in portland you see angie noe, journalist being harassed simply for going there to cover the antifa rally and this is the new reality that unfortunately law enforcement in these communities and leadership
6:04 am
, the people in positions of political leadership in these communities have to deal with which is that its gone to this new unfortunately acceptable form of violence that's just assumed is going to transpire and it's really unfortunate to watch because it's a shame when journalists can't even do their jobs. griff: i covered during president trump's inauguration, we saw antifa trying to come out and take an early stand against president trump and they broke windows that started being against corporations, but gabrielle nadala, a former member of antifa writing an op-ed for fox news basically says here is what we've done. he says antifa has become far more violent, since i was involved nearly a decade ago, i've followed the growth in numbers, incidents, and it is the record of those who have the power and influence of a soap box, as a society we need to take antifa seriously and that means it's time for our leaders to be honest and diligent about exposing a real danger to public safety, in american principles,
6:05 am
what gabrielle is talking about too is antifa got their start in what's known as the battle for seattle the first time they came together and used these tactics, dressing in black, leading police, breaking windows that was when he was involved what has become now has become much more dangerous and violent and based on what he's saying unfortunately, possibly, expect ing people like angie noe to have another episode of being attacked. todd: griff it's really a call for our elected leaders to step up and do something this is a seer just situation and what's interesting to me is not all of the 2020 democratic candidates have come out and said antifa is a bad organization, they need to be stopped. it seems like that should be a non-partisan issue. they haven't yet come out and said that. that's concerning and somewhat interesting. jedediah: kudos to gabrielle he's been on this show and very outspoken it's not easy to be a former member of antifa to come
6:06 am
out and speak and i'm sure he faces a lot of backlash from within that community still expressing himself so good for him for coming out and being honest on that issue. griff: indeed another story we're looking at is the white house, president trump getting an unlikely victory from the ninth circuit court of appeals out in san francisco, siding with the administration on asylum rules and limiting the number of people who can cross the border and claim asylum, and reacting, commissioner mark morgan, and here is what he had to say. >> the american people need to understand it's just how complicated these legal proceedings are, so sometimes we get to enjoy nationally and then in this case, we were initially and then we have a partial victory where we can institute this partially. texas and new mexico where we can institute this now, this will be a game changer. it will allow us to absolutely institute an initiative now, what we truly believe will help
6:07 am
stem the flow of illegal immigration. we still need congress to get together to pass meaningful legislation to address the loopholes in our system. jedediah: and coming right out you see a map we have here of the states who are the asylum rule applies. can you see texas and new mexico , can apply the rule, california and arizona will not apply the rule and griff i'm curious your perspective, how much of the game changer this will be. you've been on the frontlines covering these border issues what do you think of this? griff: well it's a huge game changer certainly in texas and new mexico because you're talking about in a few months ago we were in these unprecedented numbers from the families from the northern triangles so it's all about controlling numbers so that's why these facilities are over run in this limits the number of people that can come across and claim asylum and so anything and that's what i think commissioner morgan was saying. anything that helps get the numbers under control is certainly as he put it a game changer. todd: you're looking at it through the immigration lens and that's proper in this context. i'm looking at it through the
6:08 am
straight up legal lens. this is a very interesting decision because we've seen so often during the trump adminitration circuits especially the ninth circuit taking their decision and applying it to the entire country. yes this is on immigration, but don't be surprised if you see lawyers licking their chops right now because they know they can use this precedent going forward to say even in the over liberal ninth circuit they were very limited in their application. it doesn't apply to the whole country. let's see this come up in different areas besides immigration in the next year and a half or so. jedediah: and obviously, you know, immigration has become a very polarizing issue as we're now in the midst of the 2020 election season, and one of the other issues that's become really polarizing is the economy because president trump has achieved great success on the economy and liberals are trying to figure out how do we run against that. what do we say we're going to advocate for policies completely the opposite of what has actually been successful anyway if they don't say that outloud believe me they know it. well, late night host bill maher is weighing in calling for recession saying it would be worth it to get rid of trump. this is nothing new to let's
6:09 am
take a look back at bill maher and what he said about this in the past. >> this economy is going pretty well. i feel like the bottom has to fall out at some point and by the way i'm hoping for it because i think one way you get rid of trump is a crashing economy, so please, bring on the recession. >> a recession is a survivable event. what trump is doing to this country is not. >> democracy is about to go the way of the dinosaurs because we've been taken over by a dodo bird. >> i've been hoping for a recession. people hate me for it but it would get rid of trump so you shouldn't hate me for it. >> recessions are really bad. people lose their jobs. >> well you shouldn't wish for a recession because that will definitely get him unelected. we have survive many recessions. you can't survive another donald trump. jedediah: and guess what he is not backing down. take a listen to what he had to say on it last night. >> i've been saying for about
6:10 am
two years that i hope we have a recession. >> a recession would be very worth getting rid of donald trump and these kind of policies jedediah: oh, boy. it's trump derangement. it's crazy. griff: he was asked do you really mean what you're saying because he certainly is one of them for those that can remember 2008-2009 people lost their entire lives, many of them haven't even been able to build back what they had saved for, what they had worked for, and so really honestly, it's a given whether or not we don't know whether it would have an impact the re-election of donald trump but what is certain if it is, if he does get his wish is that lives would be destroyed. many of them that are unable to recover when it comes to what they try and invest in and so it's an interesting tactic he's taking. jedediah: well you know, the nerve. he's sitting on a pile of money this high and he's talking about well we'll get over a recession. well that's really great of you to say bill maher you're sitting on a pile of money not everybody has that advantage.
6:11 am
some people they get by a recession and don't recover for a long long time. todd: cynthia e-mailed us and wrote a recession won't impact bill maher's life but it will impact the life of hard working middle and lower class middle americans. his comments are shameful. jedediah: we also have an e-mail from john. i'm sure he has enough money to ride out a recession. it just shows he cares nothing about the average person. griff: mike says i'd like to see bill maher live from paycheck to paycheck live, working two jobs, just to make ends meet. that's exactly the guy we're talking about here. jedediah: and do you know what like maybe there was a time and a place, i don't know his past work history maybe there was a time in his life that he did have to do that but are you so disconnected from that reality that now you're just driven by politics and you can't even remember comments like this and a recession would impact those people so badly that it's really just not worth your political battle right now? like it's craziness. todd: it was explicit in one of those sound bites but implicit in the other ones, something you

opt hear from democrats, the economy doing really well. jedediah: that's right we'll turn to headlines now. jeffrey epstein's official cause of death is hanging. his lawyers disagree with new york's chief medical examiner and are vowing to conduct their own investigation. they wrote in a statement we are not satisfied with the conclusions of the medical examiner. this as fox news learns that members of the prison staff are not cooperating with investigators. epstein was facing nearly 40 years in prison on sex traffic king charges. and a bipartisan group of lawmakers now demanding answers after thousands of american hero s are left out to dry by the va, and an inspector general report finding more than $53 million in claims went unpaid over a six-month period in 2017. the group of 35 lawmakers asking va secretary robert wilkey to reconsider those claims. the va says fixes are now in place to prevent this from happening again. >> president trump donating his second quarter salary to help

6:17 am
down these very busy streets of the district which a lot of tourists visit as well. now thankfully, that altercation ended peacefully but speaking to the local shop owners they say they've never seen anything like this but it's a new reality in hong kong and it really caps off a chaotic disruptive week. we followed the altercations in the hong kong airport earlier on and that shuts down the airport for a few days and it's also heightened concern that maybe beijing will step in with their military. we have video confirming that thousands of chinese troops are stationed just 20 miles away from here near the hong kong border along with tanks and china says these are just exercises, military exercises, and to be honest most exercises, we speak to say the chances are remote, that they will rollin the tanks, in fact the hong kong police yesterday held a very rare press briefing to tell everybody look, we've got this. >> we all face tremendous

6:25 am
contamination in some cases, or a virus, or actually damage caused by the many many chemical s that are in the e- cigarettes. todd: what we do know like you said it's not just this harmless flavored smoke. it's not like the only thing in there is a little cherry flavor ing. there is hard metals in there. there's a lot of stuff that quite frankly if you were told that you were putting into your body you'd probably stop, right? >> absolutely true. certainly people don't know that they're vaping formaldehyde for example. todd: we have this staggering number, 3.6 million teens reportedly use e-cigarettes in our country. that's not to mention the number of non-teens. if you're 20 years old, you probably in that teenage category even though technically you're not a teen, this is scary stuff. what do you want parents and teens and quite frankly anybody who uses e-cigarettes to know? >> well the first thing is that parents need to know if their
6:26 am
children are vaping, whether they're teenagers or younger, or in the young adults. we don't know what the risks are , and first of all a lot of parents don't know their kids are vaping, and secondly, even if parents know it, they don't realize how often kids are vaping. this could be related to over use. there's a lot of nicotine in e- cigarettes. todd: i keep coming back to a point that you made earlier, we have decades upon decades of research on cigarettes, and the adverse impacts they have. e-cigarettes and the whole scope of the last century or two, relatively recent, and relatively little research on that topic. thank you so very much for your time and exposing this very serious issue. >> thank you. todd: as the race for 2020 heats up joe biden continues t lean on his buddy president obama. >> barack obama is an extraordinary man. >> my buddy, shouldn't be so casual. todd: turns out obama, president

6:32 am
biden and whether or not he is a front runner but whether or not he's going to last through this whole thing, and president obama is finally seeming to be weigh ing in. there's a new report from the new york times that's saying he tried to potentially talk joe biden out of a white house run, saying you know, listen joe you don't necessarily need to do this and even reportedly advised him to shake up his old and out of touch campaign team. look at that. you don't have to do this, joe. you really don't. what do you think? >> well obama clearly never wanted biden to be running anyway. i think he is very afraid that biden might damage his legacy, and he's right to tell him to hire some younger staff, because the democratic party has indeed changed a lot and he has sort of these older aids that are very close to him that are part of the old guard, and clearly, everyone getting all of the attention and energy are the new democrat socialists, who are a lot more radical.
6:33 am
todd: but also barack obama spent eight years with joe biden he knows joe biden really well and says you shouldn't run for the presidency. >> [laughter] >> because he sees it as a qualification so i think that's part of it number one but the second part is that i think obama understood that if joe biden is the lead in the poll, everyone is going to attack him and to attack joe biden is to attack barack obama and barack obama wants to have the halo around his head as the great democrat saviour and he didn't want any part of it. reporter: and can i say one more thing? donald trump has so much energy. one of the things they've been talking about is joe biden not just being a gas machine but not having the stamina to keep up. i mean,.can outwork anyone and i think the only president who actually starts to look younger in office, like most of them get aged, it's kind of weird isn't it? griff: they're saying joe you need to only do things in the
6:34 am
morning. rachel: yeah, i know! todd: and you are running for president. rachel: they are saying this is not going to work. >> but if you ran for office you get better the more you get out there and if they are protecting joe biden that is the early signs this guy is done. griff: you talk about energy i was covering the rally for fox & friends sitting there looking at the clock going how long will president trump talk, but i want to ask you, sean because you're a politician. you have to get up early but in this article, biden is also reportedly saying back to obama that listen, i didn't choose to run when i thought i could beat trump in 2016. now i'll never forgive myself if i don't try to defeat trump now, standing sort of by his conviction, you're a politician you understand there's moments when you just have to stand alone and do what you think is right. >> i might disagree with joe biden's politics but as someone
6:35 am
whose run for office and someone who sees a higher office, joe biden's run twice and lost. he was so close to the presidency being eight years as the vice president. no doubt he wants to go for it and again, this is the last chance he has, and so i understand that he wants to take his shot and this is the best shot he'll ever have, but the point that the rest of us sees that joe doesn't is he's not right for the presidency. >> the time picks you, you don't pick the time and maybe it's not his time. todd: lost in a wildly wildly busy news week is the following there's a standup going on planned parenthood it's going to leave the program within days unless the court puts a hold on trump adminitration rules that bar clinics from referring patients for abortions. what's your reaction? rachel: i once met a democrat who was on the board of planned parent hood and that person told me that he advised the board long ago they should separate their family planning part from their abortion services, and
6:36 am
planned parenthood said no. they purposely, for ideological and i think for profit reasons off of our tax dollars, i think it's a little more for them in that way because there's the amendment prohibiting our dollars from going to abortion so this is a way they sort of muddy the waters and by the way, if this goes through, they will no longer be able to access $60 million of taxpayer money, which sounds like a lot of money it's like one fundraiser in hollywood, so if the left really cares about this, let them fund it but don't make taxpayers have to pay for planned parenthood , for services that are supposed to be for family planning, and then have them refer women to their own abortion clinic which, you know, is the number one provider. >> i think when we look at planned parenthood, they would say they are about abortion and
6:37 am
this case in point says if you care about women's health take the money and provide women's health forget the abortion or, you know, abide by the rules but they say if i can't do abortion i'm not going to do women's health which means they are about apportion, not about women's health. jedediah: rachel you have an amazing show on fox nation called moms that i absolutely love and there's a new episode available and we have a clip on the impact of transgender athletes in sports. take a listen. >> there is legislation out that's going to make it the law that no longer is to determine what category you are and women sports or mens sports is this fair for girls? >> no. >> no. rachel: no? >> no matter what we believe socially, there are still basic biological structural difference s in bone density, and muscle mass. jedediah: i love this show that you do because you have a real conversation with people about issues that are really important
6:38 am
on a day-to-day basis this is a hot top in issue. was there anything surprising we'll learn that you want to ease out for us? rachel: well i would say this was a special episode where we had melissa rivers, bristol pale en, but we have a lot of real moms that we go around the country to texas and arizona and south carolina and wisconsin, i even did one inside of my home with some moms in my hometown, so we are using real women and talking about things that real women are talked about and a lot of moms are really concerned about the transgender sports issue with their girls. jedediah: you also have another clip to share? it's fun and exciting. rachel: i'm going to do that because i've been having babies for 20 years so -- todd: best line of the day. casually. rachel: so when i first started having babies there was no such thing as a gender reveal. nobody did a gender reveal. well now when i got pregnant with this one my girls were like we want a gender reveal party so when i found out the baby i kept it a secret with sean and we
6:39 am
ordered cake, we went to our cabin up north and, you know, this is a clip to show you that gender reveal parties don't always go the way, you know, so take a look at what happened when my three-year-old son found out that we were having, well i'll let you see. [laughter] >> the baby is going to be a boy! >> you don't want a sister? >> i want a boy! >> [laughter] >> how many boys and girls? >> this is a girl and it'll be six girls and three boys so he was really trying to even things up. i think sean was hoping for one last one frankly. >> we're good with anything. we have this green bay packer shirt on there just to be clear. >> yeah there was minnesota people that commented on my
6:40 am
instagram and said he's just crying because you forced him to wear a packer shirt. >> [laughter] >> i think it was pete. griff: well congratulations, and sean you are going to go easy on the lawn mower race this year with todd right? >> i spent a lot of time on a lawn mower. todd: i heard. >> it's going to be fair. jedediah: i'm counting on you to beat him because i've been predicting that and i have some bets at stake. rachel: i thought we were going to do the lawn mower. >> pregnant lawn mower racing. >> [laughter] todd: do you want to step in for me i'll do the weather if you do the lawn mower thing. >> adam: i've only got about a minute if you want to sprint out here. but you know it's really good weather to mow the lawn today. as i know you guys will be doing here in a little bit. i was actually complaining 75 degrees a little humid and i was like so hot and so steamy a lot of people from the south is it hot and steamy out here? >> no!
6:41 am
>> adam: i was given a hard time there for a little while and because of that it feels pretty good out here. let's take a look at the temperatures across the country, 75 degrees around that in new york city. there have been plenty of spots there's a big area of low pressure down along the coast of florida. that's going to cause flood advisories, watches and warnings through there we can see as much as eight to 10 inches of rain over the next three days or so. also last time i tossed it back inside you guys gave me a hard time because todd especially thought maybe i'd set this up that everybody really liked me, so i wanted to find somebody and really like okay, if todd is your favorite anchor, why don't you go ahead and say so? >> is todd your favorite anchor >> say yes. >> adam: nobody is agreeing with you todd i tried. nobody agrees it must be me. todd: i'm huge with the 2 and under crowd. jedediah: thanks, adam. we'll turn to headlines for you now. more than 700 people coming together to comfort a man who lost his life of 22 years in the el paso shooting.
