[sobbing] jedediah: wow. pete: ed, for our viewers, you have had a heavy heart for a while and rightfully so. your sister colleen has a liver disorder and you as her brother have decided to step up and donate a portion of your liver. ed: it's been a long journey and it's good to talk about it. i hope it helps people because there are a lot of people who need organ donations. ed: she is on the list, the national list. it takes a long time. we don't know. i have got to try to help. pete: the process ask going to be a bit long. we will miss you on the couch. jedediah: ed henry who recently ha major surgery. he donated if you remember part of his liver to his sister colleen, they are both now in recovery. i believe we have ed on the phone. ed: we feel great. my vitals are good. we have succeeded in victory, i think, in winning our goal, which is to get my sister healthy. and her surgeon said as soon as he got the 30% of my liver and put it in her, it immediately started working. immediately.

jedediah: wow. ed: it's just an absolute miracle. griff: need to get you healthy. we can't get you back here fast enough, ed. pete: he is back after an incredible journey this summer donating a portion of his liver. ed: hard to watch. jedediah: the next story inspiring story. ed: he reached out to me a few days ago to see how i was doing which really touched me frankly, detective, because what you did is truly incredible. as i understand it you are walking through times square and heard somebody needed a kidney. somebody you didn't know. >> i actually saw it online the "new york post" had an article about ed winier who had a billboard donated to him and just said mark meyer said my name is mark winier i need a kidney. so i filled out the paperwork. and attempted to donate to him. unfortunately i wasn't a match. his hospital is new york presbyterian cornell. and at the time i was

waiting to -- for the results. i just did some research and found out that you can just donated your kidney to anybody. i asked them about that. they said oh, okay. that's a different pile of paperwork. so someone called me back the next day and i started the process to donate as altruistic donor. jedediah: that's incredible story. what. >> now that i donated my kidney i can't donate the other one. i try to advocate for living kidney donation. i saw that ed was coming back. and because of his experience that he is passionate about, living organ donation. i said hey, listen, if you ever do anything or any kind of segments where you want to talk about living organ donation i would be happy to help. within i think 30 minutes. i thought you you would never even respond back. you probably get a lot of messages. i appreciate that. pete: what has the recovery been like? you are a few months ahead of ed. actually you had a chance at city field to meet your recipient. >> it was awesome. the recovery for me is quite easy.

ed's journey was a little bit different. for kidney donation it's two days, three days max in the hospital. depending o on your job you can go back to work two and a half weeks, three weeks. if you are a fitness person, six weeks later there is no lifting restrictions. if you are a cross fit person, a runner, just go back to running. then my recipient said that she was a mets fan. so i figured i would take a shot and reach out to new york mets and see if they would have us meet there for the first time. i thought that would be a really cool experience. she agreed to do it and it was just an awesome experience. pete: i had fox news behind me. they supported me as an employer. it sounds like the nypd was. some people are afraid if i have got to take time off how would that impact my job couldn't talk big picture? particularly kidney there are people who need a lot more kidneys than liver. about being a living donor not that it's easy but it can be done and can you help so many people. >> absolutely. the two main reasons why people are reluctant to donate is one the financial

reason. if you are a federal employee or new york state employee you get 30 days paid vacation. that's very rare. i work for the best police department in the world. and new york city police department was very supportive. we have an awesome policy as fox does and was able for me to be out and still get my pay. but there is a lot of companies that, you know, people that want to donate and it's just thought possible. the other thing is people have a concern, you know, the most common response i gout was what if you one of your kids needs a kidney and you gave it kidney away. there are things in place now the national kidney registry that facilitated has a family voucher program it. takes that away. when you go to donate now even as nondirected donor i could identify five people, family members, friends, and they get a voucher for a kidney even though you don't need a kidney. 10 years downtown road all the sudden you need a kidney you pull out that voucher you are getting that kidney it. alleviates that. pete: appreciate what you do every day as a member of the nypd even more so very
