reduce violence. heather: white house cut peace talks with taliban after weeks of deadly attacks in afghanistan, many are now asking why would be negotiating with the terror group at all, joining me to react president of of studies jim hanson, jim, thank you very much for joining us, we appreciate it. >> good to be with you. heather: what about that? let's begin there, why negotiating them to begin with, doesn't make a lot of sense when they continue these deadly attacks in afghanistan that they're claiming responsibility for? >> you know, i can see reasons to negotiate with the taliban, i was a little troubled by the idea to bringing them here. i think if they were going to see the inside of any u.s. facility it should have been guantanamo bay and not camp david, they are a power in afghanistan, we have to take that as the status quo, so what we want to do is make certain as president trump delivers on his promise to draw down our presence in afghanistan that we do what we can to negotiate the best possible conditions to
1:16 am
allow him to do that. heather: yeah, let's bring up this tweet by president trump on the failed peace talks that you just referenced, the secret meeting that was supposed to happen at camp david. if they cannot agree to seize fire during very important peace talks and would kill innocent people, they probably don't have the power to negotiate a meaningful agreement, anyway, how many more decades are they willing to fight, you know, jim, not only were they coming to the secret meeting at camp david, the week of 911. >> there's a lot of reasons this is troubling, however, i think the president was right to try it, i mean, as i say, they are a power in afghanistan, so we take them at that. knowing that we don't expect to keep agreement but to see what we could get from them on what might help us in the draw down, looking at us and say, they will not follow the deal anyway, why do it, well, we want to have something to say when they violate any agreement and this
1:17 am
is why we are bringing the pain we are bringing and killing leaders, it's because they went back on this agreement. heather: let's take a look at four key issues in u.s.-taliban peace talks and so take us through some of these, you begin with full withdrawal of u.s. and nato forces. >> and i don't know that full withdrawal, they'll be some u.s. and nato forces there, however, we got somewhere north of 14,000 and the idea would be to get some of the troops involved in more nation building and soft-power activities to remove them and just leave the folks who can be there to do damage when the taliban potentially, you know, does more with al-qaeda and we want to be able to punish them for that and we do need some folks to do that. heather: permanent cease fire
1:18 am
and dialogue as well. >> i'm not convinced that those things will happen in a meaningful way. so i think at this point the president is probably recalculating and saying, okay, if we can't do anything meaningful as far as peace deal with these guys, what do we need to leave in place in the way of intelligence, gathering and targeting capabilities to make sure when they cause trouble we can bring damage to them to stop. >> something we don't want in place also the fourth and final thing, no foreign fighters allowed to use afghanistan as launch pad to conduct attacks, but how do we control that? >> i think that means we need to get back to the concept of a department of dirty tricks where we use human intelligence, where we pay for informants, where we go ahead and have the ability to do targeted hits on their leadership and other things that will stop them and stop anyone they allow in the country from operating without the fear that

robert, democratic analyst and beverly republican on board. >> good morning. >> thanks, heather. heather: beverly, i would start with you, good idea, we know that hillary clinton lost? >> i don't think she will be taking a lot of tips at this point, i think if elizabeth warren does win the nomination she's going to need tips on how to handle debate with donald trump, i see this more as elizabeth warren really trying to establish herself among the democratic establishment, it's true that the clintons are definitely polarizing figures, not as popular as they once were with the american public but they know how to raise money and hillary could potentially help elizabeth warren gain a vote of african americans as well as women, so i see this as warren seen that could be nomination on her side and trying to get help where -- -- wherever she can. let's bring this up, we have the
1:37 am
preference among leaned democrats and we can bring that up right now, biden at 27%, sanders and then warren right there at third, you know, a lot of movement still left to go on here. >> well, what we have to understand that hillary clinton still won the 2015 general election by 3 million votes in the popular vote, she failed in electoral college, so, of course, if you're elizabeth warren you want to talk to the person that got 63 million votes in last election and also fellow female candidate who had gone further than any female candidate in american history and only lost the -- lost by a total of 70,000 votes in 3 mid western states, elizabeth warren follows hillary clinton map but remember she campaigned in michigan and wisconsin and can get suburban white women voters to come back to the democratic party and she's outstanding chance of securing nomination but also becoming on 2020. so of course, you'll take advice from hillary clinton. heather: what the graphic didn't show, another one that showed that warren has gone up between july and september by about 6
1:38 am
points from 11% in july and then she's now at 17% here in september, bernie sanders he's trotting out linda as campaign surrogate, listen to what she had to say. >> at a time of startling rise in whitenationism and anti-semitism i would be so proud to win but also to make history. first jewish american president the country has ever seen and for his name to be bernard sanders. heather: beverly, did you ever think you would see something like this? >> i am, i'm shocked by the move, when you take a look, controversial figure for a variety of reasons, most notably because she does align herself with individual who is have make antisemitic remarks and one of the chairman of the board in women's march, dnc distanced themselves from women's march
1:39 am
because of antisemitic remarks, so one thing for her to come out and say i'm going to support bernie sanders, it's another thing for him to bring her as campaign surrogate on the campaign trail, i view that as desperation on bernie sanders' parts, i don't think it would help him but if he sees elizabeth warren continue to go gain at the polls, maybe he thought this was his hail mary. heather: robert, some of the controversial issues involving her and including harsh criticism of israel, she defends sharia law, do you think this was good move by bernie and why do you think he did it? >> bernie is not a serious candidate for president, bernie has been at 15 or 20% the entire time he's been running, bernie sanders is run to go make a point, same he did in 2015, he is run to go make in point and then as we have seen much of the democratic base has been swayed either towards his leftist position or taking on this sort of rhetoric, so what bernie sanders is attempting to do with
1:40 am
this is to push the conversation forward. i don't think bernie has any illusions about actually winning nomination or becoming president, what he's trying to do make point more so than score political points. heather: i don't know the point is of someone defending sharia law. time now 20 minutes until the top of the hour, recession, what recession? >> the u.s. could be headed for a recession. >> on the cusp of a recession. >> plenty signs of a possible recession. heather: really? well, the doom and bloom democrats in left-wing media, solid's job report, why is the economy as strong as ever, economists explains exactly why up next.

1:45 am
of jobs, it's less than we have had in the past but, remember, we are full employment, african american unemployment is at multigenerational low, unemployment generally is very low and wages are rising more rapidly than inflation, more people are coming out and looking for a job than in the past, so it's great job market. >> yeah, let's bring that up as you were talking about the numbers, 130,000 jobs added, 3.3 unemployment, you mentioned the labor participation rate, that is hoovering around multiyear highs, in terms of specific areas, mining, manufacturing, how does that look? >> well, the economy is changing right under our feet, i mean, the automobile sector becoming less prominent, the manufacturing sector is holding steady with global environment being what it is, you know, mining, energy production and so forth, we don't see a lot of job's growth there and some sectors we are seeing a decline
1:46 am
but in other areas of the economy technology, services, a lot of new job and a lot of new growth and so forth and that's a good thing. >> so what about the fed, we keep hearing about the fed and interest rates, how are they impacting all of this? >> well, i think that we are going to see an interest rate cut in september, i think it's the 18th of the month they make their decision because job's growth being what it is, slower than in the past, that would warrant additional stimulus, it would be nice if the president and congress could get together and get infrastructure bill going, one working through the senate now to put a little more juice into the economy that would be more helpful. >> let's bring up the graphic, the jobs added under president trump, you expect this to continue in what direction because we see up and down movement there? >> i think we will continue to see job growth of range of 1--
1:47 am
100,000 a month. we are what's we are going to see is the new participants in the labor market, people who weren't on the team before and decided to join, finding jobs and young people as they graduate from high school in college, not having difficulty finding a job and in fact, finding a good job. heather: that's a positive thing, no recession, you don't have to worry about that being right around the corner? >> well, to ask an economist that question we always have to be mindful that we do a good job of running the economy, but the notion that we are about to fall off a cliff, i mean, that's something for the democratic campaign trail and mainstream media who basically wants donald trump to trip and fall. >> all right, we will take that answer from you, peter morici, thank you very much for joining us, always great to have you. >> time now 10 minutes until the top of the hour and jeffrey epstein fallout hits academia, professor on leave accused of
