heather: all eyes on north carolina where voters head to the polls for two special house elections that could today's matchup be a good gauge to what is ahead in the 2020 season? david mcintosh, we appreciate your time this morning. let's bring up those two races, two special elections, the third congressional district, doctor greg murphy against alan thomas and the ninth congressional district race between dan bishop and dan mccready. that runs from south charlotte past fayetteville, the third congressional district as well. what do you think will happen? >> in the third district that is very solid rural republican district, greg murphy is going to win that hands down. the real contest is the ninth

district and are polling at the club for growth shows that it is a dead heat, both of them have been strong candidates. there is a big charlotte component which makes it more urban and suburban and out as a republican district, polls show the president when that district of the presidential race were held today but mccready, the democrat tried to hide is also liberal positions on the environment, supporting nancy pelosi and republican dan bishop his head to catch up and make that point mccready is one of those classic washington all in for himself, not tell the voters the such liberal that would help the socialists in the democratic party. shannon: does it surprise you it is so close right now because we can pull up what happened in

carolina vetoed a law requiring local officials to cooperate with ice and one of the people they released was accused of rape of a child. look at the statistics, 7% of the american population are non-americans, 24% of the drug crimes on a federal level, 25% property crimes, 28% of fraud crimes are because of non-americans and it's not just immigration related violations. there is as you pointed out murder, theft, burglary, rate, kidnapping is even included. elected officials supposed to look at the safety and protection of their people and when they don't do that they are being disloyal to their constituents. >> i want your response to this and bring up the story we just talked about, the latest news out of north carolina, the

undocumented immigrants released, 489 detainers declined by law enforcement, sex offenses, kidnapping, even homicide, north carolina not the only place this is happening. we have a map of the other sanctuary cities and we hear about these reports of violent offenders being released. what is your take on this? >> i think violent offenders should not be released, people charged with serious crimes regardless whether they are illegal illegal immigrants, they need to be detained but we know based on stats that illegal immigrants are less likely to make court -- crimes the natural born citizens that even legal immigrants. fortunately these cases of illegals the committees horrible crimes are in the minority. they are not the every day typical example and it is a perversion of the issue to take these horrible examples and make them look like they are the mainstream case and that is not

the case but we know that is what this election boils down to come immigration is one of the top three issues on both sides of the aisle, democrats and republicans and it will be important in this north carolina race, donald trump, probably smart of him to paint mccready as a person who want open borders and supports releasing illegals to commit violent crimes but a distortion of the truth. we will see what voters think today. >> is a distortion to say many of the potential 2020 democratic candidates for president are in favor of open borders, in favor of giving health coverage to illegal immigrants and a lot of other things? >> we see over and over again democratic candidates say i am not part of the policy schumer philosophy and when they get up there that is what they vote for, that is his legislation they pass and support when they go along.
