on this later. jillian: you are watching "fox and friends first" on tuesday morning. rob: thanks for getting up early with us, the president rallying a massive crowd in north carolina ahead of today's key special election expected to be an early gauge for the president's reelection in this battleground state. jillian: joining us from washington to break it down, good morning. >> reporter: it is election day in north carolina for two districts holding special elections for congressional seats. the race most people are talking about is in the ninth district, an area between charlotte and fayetteville and dan bishop challenging former marine corps captain dan mccready. this has been a controversial race after election fraud allegations surfaced in the same district. donald trump won the election easily in 2016 but this is a tossup today.

the president rallying gop supporters in fayetteville, tried to label the democratic nominee of being extremely liberal. >> support for sanctuary cities is disloyalty to american citizens and mccready wants sanctuary cities. mccready support sanctuary city policies, prisons and jails, to release criminal aliens directly into your neighborhoods. get out, go ahead, go into the neighborhood. >> reporter: mccready says he's ready to the country over party and is promising of elected to pursue a bipartisan agenda. here is what the candidate had to say ahead of the president's rally. >> my hope is while he is here in addition to the rally he will talk with people struggling with healthcare costs. if i have the honor of serving i will work on lower prescription drug costs.

here to weigh in is rebecca heinrich. a lot of people are worried there is no way out of this, no right answer. what do you think? >> there are only bad choices before us. the problem is deciding which one is the least bad? which what is going to optimize protection of the american people and honor all those lives the we have lost and the treasury we have sunk into trying to bring justice on behalf of those lost on september 11th and making sure we neutralize the threat to americans we don't have subsequent attacks like september 11th. jillian: the united states military has not done what is necessary because policymakers in washington to vanquish the al qaeda and taliban over the 18 years we have been there. our best move forward to not negotiate with the taliban, harbor and protect our qaeda but it is to lean a residual force

to conduct counterterrorism operations and look at the gains you have made over the years and come home and continue to watch it and if we have to go back years later we have to do that but that is the best path forward. >> some people look at this and say if there is no deal made at any point is this war ever going to end? >> we have to decide when the end is going to be because there is more al qaeda now than in recent years passed. donald trump made the decision back in 2017 that the united states is going to turn to pakistan, no longer allow pakistan to harbor leaders of al qaeda but they have not pursued that very hard and not much different than the past. the head of this, we are going to have al qaeda. now deal with the taliban will lead to peace. rob: the response from the taliban to the cancellation of the talks in camp david and

donald trump announced to the labor negotiations, it will bring terrorists much harm to the us. we call for compromise 20 years ago, still in position and believe the us will return to that position. they responded it would cost american lives. >> you can't have a peace treaty with a people who are right now continuing to kill your people, threaten your people and kill your allies. a romanian soldier killed with the american soldier and a dozen others as we were about to have this meeting between donald trump and the taliban leaders so they haven't put down their weapons. to have a peace treaty you have to have both sides stop killing one another and the truth of the matter is according to the un the taliban and al qaeda are inseparable.

jillian: tracy carrasco here with the holiday hiring bash. >> time is flying by but lots of hiring going on ahead of the holiday season, ubs announcing they will be hiring 100,000 seasonal workers to help with the influx of packages being sent out between thanksgiving and christmas. the same number of employees they hired last year. amazon having job fairs throughout the country looking to hire 30,000 people, these will be full-time part-time jobs with benefits, a range of opportunities from software engineers who make $100,000 to those who work in warehouses sending out those packages. lastly wendy's announced they will be hiring 20,000 people as they expand to at a breakfast menu to all the restaurants. if you're interested in any of these opportunities there are a lot of them.

this book will make. thank you for joining us. we appreciate this. tell us the story behind this book. why did you want to do this? >> my wife and i took this journey and traveled for 27 months to 35 countries as you describe. it happened early on in the process wherein our first city we encountered a policewoman on her horse, just amazing photo and shortly thereafter i saw a policeman and his police dog. he gave me an opportunity to week later on the coastline i encountered a police officer in a back alley as i was searching for coffee and asked him as well. an amazing opportunity. it felt like something i wanted to continue to do. if i had the opportunity to meet other police along the way, not

knowing what would happen as i got those photos i decided to put this into a book. rob: it is a beautiful book. a great coffee table book with pictures all over the world, south africa, vienna, austria. what did you find that all police no matter where they are? >> the pride of their community, wearing a uniform, protecting the people around them. there is one particular photo, i was on one of my walks and encountered this gentleman and as i asked him on translation if i could take his photo and once he understood what i was asking he took a couple minutes to straighten his uniform and looked good for the picture. the fact they respect the uniform they are wearing and the people they are protecting.

jillian: what do you think of what is going on today? you see the videos of police officers in new york city getting water thrown on them. what do you make of what is happening? >> people ask what did we learn on this journey? it is one of those things you have a chance to see the beauty of the world but when you come home you understand how lucky you are to be americans and that gets lost and is something we take for granted and men and women in uniform is something we take for granted and we don't understand how it is in some parts of the world we live in the we are lucky these people stand for what they stand for and protect us on an everyday basis. rob: one thing that surprised you all the places you visit and talking to police officers, one thing that stood out how police officers are treated? >> it is one of those things.
