1:35 am
there? >> well, look, the demographics are definitely changing in the state of texas but she's premature that 2020 is going to be the change over so they often point to some facts of beto o'rourke's race or 2016 cycle where democrats won roughly 55% -- let me back up, 58% of all texas votes came from 8 counties in 2018 and democrats won those, one 5 of those 8 counties, if you look at the state as a whole and top looking at just metropolitan areas, beto o'rourke underperformed every other statewide republican on the ballot and from the top performing republican to beto there was a vote gap of over 650,000 votes in favor of the republican so i do think demographics are changing but her take on it is premature to believe that democrats will be able to take texas in 2020. heather: yeah, we can also bring up a map of the 2016 texas
1:36 am
presidential election and there's a similar story behind the numbers as well, right? >> yeah, absolutely, i mean, so it's very similar, so in 2016, you know, 55% of the votes in texas came from southern counties, large metropolitan areas, but of 254 counties in the state of texas trump won significantly i believe 76% in rural texas which carries republicans over, so, look, texas republicans have to continue to gain roads with hispanic voters who are becoming stronger as they grow and we become a majority-minority state, we have to make inroads with college educated women in suburban areas and continue to register republicans that are moving in from other states and texas republicans are currently doing that and they are doing good job of it and so, yeah, i think it's going to be several election cycles before democrats are able to actually make texas in play. heather: yeah, with this particular race, 5 texas republicans who are retiring from congress and we can bring
1:37 am
those up for everyone at home. but what you were talking about, that's what's referred to as the texas triangle, right, one of the big things going for that area is right now job creation and population growth, right? >> absolutely, so the texas triangle, if you take dallas dallas-fort worth and you draw line to san antonio, houston and back up, roughly 80% of the state lives in triangle but what is missed in that, although the population lives inside the triangle, only 51%, excuse me, only 49% of our voting population comes from inside that triangle, so, you know, the theory being that triangle and population grows republicans will have a harder time making up the vote difference in rural texas but, you know, texas republicans are taking it seriously and they begin to make inroads in some of our suburban counties around houston, dallas,
1:38 am
austin, and so, you know, democrats -- demographic wills show that texas will eventually turn blue but it just won't be this year. heather: yeah, well good job keeping all the numbers straight, you know, one of the big numbers is the economy and as long as it remains strong that will make a big difference, ash, thank you so much for joining us. >> absolutely. definitely, thank you. heather: well, the time now 20 minutes until the top of the hour and close call, out of control truck smashes into the side of state trooper's patrol car, how the officer walked unscathed, and cory booker cuffing up the cash, just made enough money to make november debate stage, but is it enough to keep him in the race, find out

1:51 am
there, well, the prime minister said dot the i's, cross their t's, just like we did with hillary clinton, look, i say that because the damage is already done, there's already so much corruption in the ukraine, that's why john kerry's son declined his position on the board of barisma holdings, hunter biden did profit off of this, the damage is done but let's -- in the interest of transparency just investigate. >> i'm glad that you brought that up robin because nobody has mentioned that in terms of john kerry's son actually declining to be on that board, let's listen to what rudy giuliani had to say in reference to a double standard of sorts going on and i want your response to this. >> the real shame is i put this out 6 months ago and the washington press didn't pay attention to it, where have the fbi been for a year and a half, there's two standards here, there was no russian collusion, the collusion was in ukraine.
