bret, thank you so much for joining us this morning. great to have you with us, your team was one that killed original leaders of us, -- isis, how was it completed? >> i don't think people understand complexity of pulling such an operation. military operation that was involved in the killing of al-baghdadi makes look easy and greatest counterterrorism unit of mankind. they are fighting for us every single day. an operation like this, the culmination of years of intelligence, precise targeting, most of the intelligence has to be done to track and locate al-baghdadi has to be done from the air, so more than likely multiple drones following

al-baghdadi, surveillance assets were overhead watching him go to school and watching him wake up and there's targeted officers and analysts that are essentially trying to break down al-baghdadi's pattern and figure out what locations he's going to and provide the president with confidence that who they are staring at is, in fact, baghdadi and very meticulous work, the fact that they were able to watch him in 2 weeks, that was pretty incredible, that takes tactical chances, now they can use that information. >> knowing where he's going to go, some of the bio, we know where he was born, allegedly from reports that are coming in, we know that he had been to this specific area before.

the personal ops felt confident that he was there again. >> a lot of historical data on al-baghdadi, he was number 3 at the time, took over immediately after that, we are talking about a nearly 10-year manhunt, a lot of information built up over the years, information of isis fighters captured on the battlefield, a number of different raids that are taken place since then and they use the historical data to give the organization more confidence that al-baghdadi is located at the compound. they had the site as historical location, you can never be 100% this he's in there but now that they sort of watched him over the last few weeks, that information becomes sort of priority number 1 now because al-baghdadi wasn't just traveling around to grocery store, he was going the high-level locations where other isis leaders are and we will probably see a number of raids design today keep the network on

the run and stop the -- heather: very interesting, i want to get to the next two points, obviously the president received a lot of pushback in pulling troops out of syria. yesterday he thanked the kurds for their help in tracking down al-baghdadi and also turkey, their involvement in this. where do things stand in turkey-syria situation? >> well, i think one thing that the raid proves we can work together with turkey and russia and the kurds collectively to go in there and take out the top-level leadership when we have the information to do that. i mean, it sounds like a lot of people were involved, you towns there's higher stakes, we don't own the battle space n iraq we can go in and do whatever we want, used at least, now we are dealing with multiple countries, multiple entities all out there that could potentially hurt the operational force that was going in there to conduct the raid, we need going forward

an organization that, you know, military counterterrorism force that can go into these countries when we need to and so kind of this pulling out of syria and removing our troops kind of makes it more difficult for us to be able to go in and do that, that was why a lot of people were upset by and if we can go in the future take out number 2 and number 3 that are going to rise up in isis now and do that with precision like we did here, then we have a good road map within the last week in operation. heather: as you mentioned very important to say that we will perhaps see a series of raids likely in the next 48 hours. time now 20 minutes after the top of the hour and california wild fires exploding. >> we lost 24 people in 2017, there's absolutely no reason today through this fire that we should lose a human life.

to debate carley turner, kevin, thank you both for joining us this morning, we appreciate it. >> good morning, heather. heather: we will bring up nancy pelosi's statement on adam, she said among other things, the house must be briefed on the raid which the russians but not top congressional leadership were notified of in advance, kevin, first of all, the president said, in fact, some other countries were notified after this happened, he did notify other countries in terms of getting their help so it would make our troops who are there on the ground safer and safe while this was trance spiring, so my question to you is, what does come first? safety of our troops or politics? >> well, heather, i disagree with the premise of your question to suggest that any republican or democratic member of congress would leak operational details of something of this magnitude beforehand is just wrong, nancy pelosi spent 20 years as head of the intelligence committee before she was in leadership, those 20

years as speaker she has leaked nothing when it comes to national security issues like this operation to take out al-baghdadi, so to suggest that you're going to risk operational security with our personnel by telling congress is just wrong and un-american. heather: holy, what about that, i agree, she's had years and years of experience, you would think that the first thing she would do is thank our troops which she did thank our troops and added element about russia on to the end of it, kind of twisting and making it more of a political statement. >> yeah, it's unfortunate, honestly we live in different times than we did 20 years ago or 10 years ago or even 2 years ago, the number of leaks coming out of washington dc are scary, they are dangerous and now it's not the time to test nancy pelosi's allegiance to our troops, this is the right thing to do and it's not just her, i don't think this was aimed at her, she was aimed at staff and

officer costello and christopher costa, appreciate your time this morning. i will begin with you, what does this day mean to you? >> well, it's a day of remembrance when citizens pay homage to first responders, when we look at the current climate we have officers who function in ecosystem, the key to this is we want to bridge the public trust and relationship between the police and the community, this is something that's nonexistent and looking to move to happy medium as well. heather: what does that mean to families? >> it's very important because the civil servants work a lot of shift work in which they don't have the time to see families and everything else, it's very hard in the families of first responders, it's important for the family of first responders to neglect that they're appreciative as well, as well as what their parents are doing.

heather: we mentioned the first responders running out to danger, running towards to danger every day, the families don't know if their loved ones will come back, christopher. >> yeah, just like in the military statistics with ptsd, first responders suffer ptsd also. phoenix study published that 10% of first responder community would be experiencing symptoms of first responding to dangerous events higher than the civilian population. heather: yeah, we can bring up a statistic as well, 85% of first responders experienced symptoms associated with mental health issues, that's in line with what you are just saying. >> 85% of the community. heather: not enough being done about that. you were a member of nypd for a number of years, the number of suicides on nypd officers so far

alone, 10 active duty officers. >> right, serious problem because police officers are somewhat of a what happens in society, when you look at suicide it's something that escalating, we need to employ necessary professionals so we can have a drop in the suicides because it's really problematic when we look at the job that police officers do, how can we effectively treat those individuals, so moving forward we need to come together and call a solution that can keep these officers safe and prevent them from taking their own life. >> not just police officers, we can also bring this up, police officers an firefighters across the country, we can take a look at this, they -- more died from suicide than the line of duty, these stats from 2017 and it's troubling, andrew, i was listening to some of the special last night, talked about the stigma associated seeking help that you may need in terms of

mental health issues. >> well, it's a tough dilemma especially if police officers, carried firearms, exception if you seek help, livelihood and potential to kill yourself, and it's tough to put the police officers who come forward, never been a true feeling of anonymity and secrecy in seeking help. heather: christopher, let's talk about the positive effort to bring recognition from the community to these officers and first responders and discussing don't feel like they have the support. >> well, civilians need to appreciate today, they should be thanking a police officer if that sounds cheesy, then just a smile, a smile goes a long way. heather: yeah. >> to be able to thank that
