witness had first-hand knowledge of key events. >> there are a number of events investigating which i cannot bring any first-hand knowledge. >> were you involved in the trump-zelensky phone called? >> i was not. >> are you involved in the possible military sales to ukraine will! >> i was not. i was not. >> did you ever talk to president trump in 2019? >> no, i have not. >> mick mulvaney? >> no, i have not. >> think you come ambassador. not sure what the ambassador is doing here today. >> juan: when president trump tweeted an attack on the former ambassador in the middle of the hearing. adam schiff then read the tweet. >> i will read one of these tweets. everywhere marie yovanovitch wentz turned bad, and the president in real-time time is
2:02 pm
attacking you. what effect do you think that has on other willingness to come forward and expose wrongdoing. >> it's very intimidating. >> juan: accusing the president of witness temper >> doesn't allow us to have lawyers. tampering is when schiff doesn't allow us to have witnesses. i've been watching for the first time -- i started watching and it's really sad. it's a political process, it's not a legal process. if i had somebody saying i'm allowed to speak up. >> juan: dana and i were with you all day, we were watching this. bret baier said he thought the tweet changed everything today. do you think that's an example of trump being his own worst enemy? >> dana: the only real interesting thing that happened today, there is that.
2:03 pm
many members of congress on the republican side said too that they would not have tweeted th that. i think the democrats and adam schiff in particular initially read it because he wanted to make a point -- trying to say, the president is trying to intimidate you but she wouldn't have known about it had he not read it to her and i think everybody got carried away thinking this is going to be, my god, this is another impeachable offense. i don't think so. it didn't help, but that was at 10:00 this morning? and by 4:00 when we finished our coverage, i think it's pretty much dissipated. that was a pretty fast new cycle. it didn't end up being a big deal. she has got a diplomats scale and the diplomats grace, she's as steady as it goes, i don't know if people tuned in -- will have to see if they do. i did not think it's all that exciting of a hearing. i don't think anything she said
2:04 pm
is very helpful to the democrats. it's telling her story over and over and over again. there was a point that lee zeldin made, the republican who said she was never asked about the conversation between trump and zelensky was president zelensky saying to president trump, i'm glad she's no longer going to be in the basket because she had a good relationship with the previous president, and was concerned that yovanovich was not going to be as supportive as her. that's not the democrats fault, the republicans had a chance to ask her and nobody did. now her testimony is don and he she's having a drink, i hope. >> juan: jesse, she said, though, when the president, the earlier transcript was released and the president was revealed to be talking to the president
2:05 pm
of ukraine about her, she's a bad ambassador, she's going to go through something, she did say she did feel in fact that she had been smeared. >> jesse: poor baby. when obama got into office he fired all the ambassadors and replace them at will. under obama, ambassadors were coming back in body bags. now everyone is upset because one got fired. so what? people get fired all the time, doesn't make a difference. witness tampering? really? schiff colluded with the whistle-blower. that's witness tampering. bribery? what about when obama says pallets of cash to iran? more of a bride than this. freezing aid in a blink of an eye? let's go to court and you want to get him for obstruction? they are criminalizing everything. >> juan: let me interrupt you and take a look at this thought on tape and you can answer your point, jesse?
2:06 pm
>> some have argued that the president has the ability to nominate or remove any ambassador he wants. that they serve at the pleasure of the presidents. that is true. >> i have always understood that i served at the pleasure of the president. >> jesse: listen, they needed something to create momentum after wednesday. wednesday was not good. wednesday was dull. only 13 million tuned in. more than twice that tuned in for the royal wedding coverage. and more tuned in for inauguration. and comey. and michael cohen. this was a little blip. they are going to lose interest very fast especially after today. they needed a moment, tears, some powerful moment, and it didn't materialize. the dow just broke another record. i think everybody has lost touch with the american people on this and they don't see it because they are so wrapped up in what's happening in d.c. >> juan: all right.
2:07 pm
greg, i wanted to play another thought for you and see what your reaction. greg >> greg: please do. i shall react. >> how did that make you feel? >> terrible. >> do you know that president trump made specific reference to you in that call? >> no. >> what was your feeling and knowing that?d, frankly. >> how do you mean devastated? >> how this is affected you personally and your family? >> it's been a difficult time. i'm a private person. i don't want to put that all out there. but it's been a difficult time. >> how has it affected your family? >> i really do not want to get into that, but thank you for asking. >> juan: greg? >> greg: they wanted her to cry and they didn't get it there. she's had a long career. that's irrelevant. that is how the hearing was a travesty. it was in a relevant hearing because it was based on
2:08 pm
emotions, interpretations, feelings, and reactions to feelings about being fired, a natural process that i know personally about three times. i've been fired three times. i've never had a hearing! by the way, i defend the bosses. in the three times i was fired, i was a really good employee. the reason i was fired? new boss. new boss comes in, he wants new people. if he doesn't feel you are going to be loyal, gets rid of you. that happens at men's health. that happened to me at stuff and maxim. the fact they did -- they talked about trump attacks? she is not immune to donald trump the way none of us are. none of us are immune. he comes in, shakes the box, somebody that got fired. this is why this process is dead because there is no bipartisan support for this because we all know that what happened is completely legitimate. which is why it's so ugly and why people are mad at each other because they know it is b.s. >> juan: can i briefly just
2:09 pm
say, though, in fact the trump administration had renewed her in march and you see things change, and the firing. >> greg: who cares? >> juan: i thought you said the new boss -- gre>> greg: if she's playing maroon 5 in the office, he can fire her. >> juan: kennedy, let me look at this from the trump point of view. is she, the deep state, someone who serves for 30 years, comes across as a very patriotic public servant, that's the deep state? >> kennedy: no, i think she's a career diplomat, people -- i wouldn't say necessarily her and republicans and democrats did a good job of not only showing that she has a decades improve record but she was not fired. she was still employed and she's teaching at georgetown. that's pretty great. if you had been fired and you lose your livelihood and you don't have a paycheck, that

sucks, that's what a lot of americans can relate to. this is what we are talking about. we are talking about someone's feelings and i think i would probably be x upset if my contractor is road renewed and then relieved of duty at the next plane out. is that the foundation for the impeachment of a president? no. there was weird stuff. has it risen to the level of impeachment? if it has, that's what we should be focusing on and frankly we are not. should the president be tweeting in her made herein? no, and makes them look like a big dumb baby. the last two days of hearings and testimony would've been a snooze fest and to dana's point, the new cycle move so quickly that even the tweet. >> juan: dana, one thing, the white house tried to preempt this by releasing the transcript of the first phone call earlier at the time the hearing was
2:11 pm
starting, but one that came out, it looked like the president didn't talk about corruption. >> dana: we only have a little bit of time to let me explain. anytime there's a call between world leaders, usually there is a readout. the press office goes to the security council, they get the information. or you listen and do it yourself and there are discrepancies. the national security council statement that was released to the white house press office they talk about corruption and territorial integrity, and sovereignty -- they didn't talk about any of that. but that's not impeachable. it's just a thing that happened today. >> juan: all right. there's much more to come on today's impeachment hearing and we've got it all covered. but stay with us on "the five." i'm your 70lb st. bernard puppy,
