an impact on and impeachment probe and i want you to explain how. i don't see what that has to do with a phone call to your friends. >> reporter: one of the claims the president made is this entire investigation of the president and his campaign, turned into the ukraine investigation after the russia investigation got completed is all about a political process and the entire thing is infected with this dossier and alleged misrepresentations about carter page and the like. if it comes out that there were issues in the investigation it plays into the narrative the president laid out about a political investigation. it cost concern in the senate about politics and politicization. jillian: what do you make of the timing of this? >> the timing is something house democrats can't control. the inspector general will do his report. it has been going on since 2018. chairman graham wants to get it

out as soon as possible because of the potential on the impeachment investigation. the timing has nothing to do with the investigation. chairman graham's timing is important to him. rob: the democrats in the house want to investigate whether the president lied to robert mueller in the written statement and the questions, some things came out in the roger stone thing, he was found guilty, that might implicate the president, maybe the president knew about the dnc hack. what do you make of that? >> nancy pelosi indicated she wants to keep the impeachment focused on ukraine. expanding beyond that, whether the president wasn't fully truthful, his lawyers working on those written answers. it is unlikely the president wants to get the trouble there but this is about getting at the grand jury material they wanted out of the grand jury

investigation that the ag refused to give them. jillian: the president sent a tweet saying she said i can do it in writing even though i did nothing wrong and don't like giving credibility to this now due process hoax. i like the idea and will to get congress focused again strongly consider it. what do you think of the president's tweet? >> the president mentioned earlier he might meet with the mueller investigators and give a deposition in person. he did it in writing. lawyers will give the same advice going forward. given what we know about the impeachment process going forward it looks like the president is not -- based on what we know now. for him to testify creates more exposure than it benefits him but the president has his own mind on these issues and may very well want to make his case to the american public directly and if he chooses to do so it could change the game
