warren won't say it. >> take back this country and lead the world again and expand our power to do it. get up and take it back. ♪ ♪ rob: between a huge day in impeachment and the debate last night i watched more television yesterday than in the last week. jillian: it was quite a day. rob: thursday, november 21st, thank you for starting your day with us. jillian: the gloves came off

during around 5 of the presidential debate as 2020 democrats remain locked in a furious fight for the nomination. rob: ahmed the battle between far left and more moderate candidates, the top target was donald trump. jillian: we have team coverage with griff jenkins and todd pyro and liz harrington, expert analysis from both sides of the aisle. rob: we start by going live to atlanta, georgia where griff jenkins has a recap of the major moments from last night's debate. >> reporter: outside of the studios in atlanta, maybe most memorable about this debate was there were no standout moments, no real contrasts between visions for america after donald trump but let me tell you it was donald trump who was front and center on stage and one issue, impeachment, dominated. >> donald trump doesn't want me to be the nominee.

vladimir putin doesn't want me to be president. >> no one is above the law. we have a constitutional responsibility. >> we cannot simply be consumed by donald trump or we are going to lose the election. >> reporter: what did seem to be significant was the emergence of pete buttigieg as the new front runner leading polls in iowa and new hampshire. the last debate it was elizabeth warren's emergence that drew incoming fire. the mayor didn't get much but he could hold his own on the stage last night. >> the most recent example of your inexperience in national security in foreign-policy came from your recent care of a statement about how us president would be willing to send our troops to mexico to fight the cartels. >> that is outlandish even by the standards of today's politics. >> are you saying you didn't say

that? >> i was talking about us-mexico cooperation. you seriously think anybody on this stage is proposing invading mexico? [laughter] rob: one policy issue that did stand out was senator warren's wealth tax and it was senator booker who challenged her. listen. >> i propose a 2 sense wealth tax. when you make it really big, top 1/10 of 1% big, pitch in 2 sense so everybody else gets a chance. >> it is cumbersome. >> i'm tired of reloading billionaires. >> everybody is tied of corporations paying 0 taxes. >> reporter: the candidates were mostly polite to each other but if you were looking for fireworks as a political junkie it was the harris/tulsi gabbard moment that stands out.

>> democratic party unfortunately is not the party that is of, by and for the people. it is unfortunate that we have someone on stage who is attempting to be the democratic nominee for president of the united states. when donald trump was elected, not even sworn in, but eat up to steve bannon to get a meeting with donald trump, she will as president continue this status quo, continue the bush clinton trump foreign-policy of regime change wars which is deeply destructive. >> reporter: as for donald trump what did he think? campaign put out a statement saying he thought the 2020 democrats were short on solutions and heavy on their unhealthy obsession with removing and taking down donald trump. rob: thanks, appreciate it. jillian: let's bring in chuck rocha, democratic strategists, bernie sanders senior advisor, good to see you as always.

the first soundbite we want to play, kamala harris, tulsi gabbard interaction, let's take a look. >> but eat up to steve bannon to get a meeting with donald trump in trump tower, fails to call a war criminal by what he is as a war criminal and spins full-time in the course of his campaign criticizing the democratic party. jillian: in the last debate tulsi gabbard went after kamala harris and this was the opposite with that moment. >> both of these candidates need a breakout moment and what you saw last night was an opportunity to go after each other. i would not agree totally, i am on fox news, we should be on all the networks talking to everybody but as you dig into this a group of candidates to establish themselves in the top-tier and a whole bunch of folks in single digits in most of the polls fighting to get some recognition and get that moment because a lot of times

those moments go viral to a certain extent. what sets them up to be eligible for the next debate. rob: bernie sanders going after joe biden and his support for the war in iraq. >> one of the big differences between the vice president and myself is he supported the terrible war in iraq and i helped lead the opposition against it. we need a foreign policy which will send our enemies off. rob: the idea of getting out of these countries and bringing troops home is popular right now. did your guy drop some blood? >> it is really important on this distinction on policy, joe biden is prepared to step into the oval office and bring the world back together and follow his lead as a senior statesman. what senator sanders is pointing out is when he had an opportunity to show leadership in foreign-policy made a mistake and voted against, voted for a war we voted against or senator

sanders voted against. that is a big deal differentiating yourself on foreign-policy. jillian: kamala harris, let's hear what she had to say on minority voters. >> they show up when it is close to election time, show up at a black church and want to get the vote but they haven't been there before. folks get tired of saying just thank me for showing up, show up for me. jillian: what did you think of her comment? >> this is personal for me. is a person of color on a political consulting firm, i have been around politics for 30 years. what she is saying is exactly right, the third rail of democratic politics. this was a democratic primary. folks that matter in a democratic primary are women of color, people of color and show up on black churches on sunday morning going to latino neighborhoods talking about fixing immigration system but we are looking forward to being there year-round. rob: yesterday was a big day with the impeachment hearings

and what gordon sondland had to say but it was funny to watch msnbc start by talking about the president and bernie sanders says we can't be talking about trump all the time or we are going to lose. what did you make of that? >> it is smart. i traveled around the country with the senator. if you watches townhall meetings we are talking about healthcare and the economy and all these issues, minimum wage, the things that affect everybody as they sit down at their table. not to say the impeachment hearings aren't important but you can do both. will drive them to the polls are the issues that affect everything at their dinner table when they have a dinner with her husband the wives. jillian: the name trump was mentioned 37 times not including the word president or anything like that. pretty interesting. thank you for joining us. have a good day. rob: ten minutes after the hour.

you did it, you're good on roads and bridges all of us helps pay for. rob: elizabeth foreign continues going after the american dream pushing a wealth tax plan on the debate stage. jillian: she says her policy will unite the country but hasn't donald trump united americans since taking office? here is liz harrington, thanks for joining us. there was a pretty big moment a lot of people are talking about from last night when cory booker went after elizabeth warren on this wealth tax. >> if we don't start talking not just how to tax wealth but how to give more people opportunities to create wealth, to grow businesses, to have their american dream. jillian: what do you make of it? >> the american dream is back under donald trump. what we heard from all the democrats on stage last night is how they want to dismantle that. the truth is the democrat party platform is now an attack on the american dream, an attack on the

american ideal where instead of government get out of the way and rights come from god, not government, democrats turn that on its head and they now know now, government is our god and we will sit limits on your opportunity, we will set limits not only on how much you make but what you eat, what you drive, when you can see a doctor, there is no limitless opportunity, only endless government. rob: other nations tried the well texas, france tried something similar inside 10,000 of the richest people and doesn't build up as much wealth as anybody expects it to and when you look at wealth that a few% a year, over 15 years you take have the wealth away, and introduce them to nothing over the course of a lifetime. it is a scary idea for a lot of people.

the dnc has to drop their fundraising numbers in the middle of the democratic debate because they are so embarrassed they only raised $8 million, just as much in debt. it tells you the energy, the enthusiasm is on our side. we are getting not just our base riled up but disaffected democrats, we are getting independents so turned off by this impeachment charade in washington and so sick and tired of democrats resisting duly elected president and trying every way they can to undermine him, get back to work for washington. that is what we are hearing from our supporters and that is what we are seeing our fundraising tool. rob: a bit of a rough day for the president, gordon sondland hit hard on things connecting the president, rudy giuliani, pens, pompeo, they knew what was going on. let's listen to him. >> what do we want from ukraine,
