one of the biggest traditions of the season. the macy's thanksgiving parade. despite the severe weather threatening people's plans across the country come in new york city they are getting ready rain, snow, or shine. live look along the parade route were police have already put up barricades and preparation. i'm trace gallagher and for all the journalists out fox news this is fox news reporting. and new york is where we began, live picture for central park workers are working to include the famous balloons. this happens to be ronald but donald slowly taking shape but it's unclear whether the giant balloons will ever take flight in tomorrow's thanksgivin thanky parade. strong winds threatening to ground the balloons for the first time since 1971. rick leventhal reporting live along the parade route on sixth avenue. what's it like where you are now? >> trace, it's cloudy but it's

warm and not windy at all. we are told that will change by tomorrow morning so is likely those baked balloons could be grounded when the parade starts at 9:00 this morning. don't tell that to the folks with the helium because that annual balloon inflation is underway. alongside central park west by the american museum of natural history. some of the balloons are smaller and they are expected to find a matter what there are 16 of those book giant character balloons. some of them at least 50 feet tall requiring as many as 90 handlers holding onto them with ropes. the national weather service is expecting winds of 80 miles per hour with gusts up to 40. the city regulations prohibit giant balloons from flying in detained winds of 23 so we are right in that window. all of this is because of an incident 22 years ago and strong winds pushed a giant cat in the hat float into a lamp post commemorating the breakdown on the crowd and knocking a young woman unconscious putting her in a coma for almost a month. this year the nypd as officers

already three cancellations in one of the busiest airports this time of year are out of chicago and right now matt finn is on the ground there at o'hare. >> to come all day long it's been surprisingly calm at o'hare. you can see not a lot of long lines at all. we've been talking to passengers all day who say they are giving themselves some extra time and that is working and while it is so far, so good there is a high wind advisory here in chicago. wind gusts up to 65 miles per hour so that could change everything at a moments late notice. taking the live look at the departure and arrival boards you can see not a single cancellation. there is one cancellation and just a handful of delays which is great news for people flying in and out of o'hare. outside of chicago window storms are expected to create major travel headaches. a bomb cycled in northern california to cause dangerous driving conditions and impact air travel. los angeles expected to get several inches of rain today.

lax is now warning passengers to give themselves three or four hours to get to the airport and checking in los angeles. states like colorado, minnesota, michigan can be had with up to t conditions. the denver airport bracing again after just taking out 1,000 passengers were stranded there this week because of the snow and all of these winter storms we are talking about are obviously heading east towards new york and there could be some impact there in the northeast. for now we are inside of chicago's o'hare. i want to throw the brady trimble on the streets of chicago. >> hey matt we've been driving around chicago all day and traffic has been touch and go right now we are stuck in some pretty bad stuff and you mentioned the weather. it's causing issues for drivers as well. specifically in this area of the wind, i talked to one driver who said they saw a semi truck that got toppled over by the wind while they were driving. north of here in the minneapolis area and other parts of the midwest they are dealing with some pretty intense now.

you can see right now things are moving at a crawl here on this highway in chicago and there are a lot of drivers on the road this thanksgiving. to be precise almost more than 49 million of them are on the road, that's up to .8% compared to last year. it's also tied, or close to a record set in 2005. a lot of people in the roads because the gas prices are low. the national average is only $2.59 right now. the cheapest place to buy gas is the south. for now we will send it back to trace in los angeles. >> trace: nice work all of you. you have to remember when you look at the whole nation as a pattern these airlines come even though they are flying out of florida they only have about five or 600 points you get a lot of plane stuck in the hair and atlanta and that ripple effect is bad across the country. nice work to those people. a massive blast shattering windows and knocking down doors. we'll get a live report from near the scene.

billow of smoke, it looked like a large cylinder flying a couple hundred feet in the air. a judge told me he is looking to see whether anyone was hurt in this explosion. it's the third large explosion since the first one start of this fire at one this morning. he said there could be more explosions. the area and a half mile radius has been evacuated. i'm told the latest explosion was related to a tower holding excess gas that melted and collapsed in the heat. a tpc official told me the first occlusion occurred in a processing unit that contained butadiene, which is a chemical component used in the making of synthetic rubber. it left eight people injured according to the jefferson county judge, three workers as well as five people in homes hit by glass. take a listen to what the judge said about his experience this morning. >> both of my front and back doors were blown in so the wood was knocked off of them. they were shattered.

they named that koala lewis. he was taken to an animal hospital. sadly he has now had to be put down by vets. he really became a symbol of their plight and as many as a thousand koalas are thought to have died as a result of these fires. some zoologist now saying that koalas are functionally extinct as a species. this means they no longer have enough members to produce future generations. that's because the bushfires have had a massive impact on their generation. there is so little habitat left for them and eucalyptus trees, which they feed on, take months to grow back. 18,000 koala czars still thought to be in new south wales but their habitat is been largely destroyed. terribly sad about the cause but the tragedy is nearly six people have died in these fires, 600 homes have been destroyed, and things are going to get worse because peak fire season has not yet come. that's expected in february. >> heartbreaking for people in the wildlife.

georgia. president trump knew about the whistle-blower complaint before they lifted aid on the ukraine. that confirms reporting by "the new york times." the papers report the president was briefed about the complaint back in august and then on september 11th the white house informed congress that it was releasing the money to ukraine. in the meantime the house judiciary committee is giving president trump new lawyers the chance to participate in next week's hearing. let's bring in our panel. john thomas g strategist at pushback which response to democrats on major issues. the spring again with you, robbie, when the president was briefed in august and the reporting is that he released the eight and september. what's more important here, when you release the eight or why the aide was withheld in your

estimation? >> right, that's a difficult question to answer. but it definitely doesn't establish is that how does this hurt his defense? that the aide, we ended up giving it to them so there was no harm no foul. that's what the president's supporters are saying. i don't think this information changes that very mushed. he might say this undermines his case of his behavior was perfect the whole time or something like that. i think most people don't think it was perfect but i think a lot of people also are not willing to impeach the president over this and i don't see how this really adds to the case. every new development is treated like some major revelation that's going to result in his ouster. i think a lot of casual viewers are getting tired of this boy who cried wolf situation. be one the thing is here the democrats are saying look, the reason he released the aide in september was because he got caught. that this phone call this complaint was happening and he got caught and do you release the eight and the republicans are saying that's not the case.

helicopter we showed you earlier was just going up. these are the first live pictures of this chemical plant. we don't know the cause of the explosion so far but you can see right there the black smoke when these fires time and time again the will tell you that thick black smoke is bad news. it means the fires have an enormous amount of fuel to burn meeting this thing could go on for a while and it is not just one or two blasts, there have been multiple blasts. you can see some of that fence around their the firefighters have set up a perimeter. they are trying to keep this thing in one place, keep it from spreading to other areas and other tanks which they believe will lead to other explosions. as we get more information on injuries and what the cause of this explosion is or explosions we will bring them to you on fox news reporting. in the meantime extreme weather

closed the coast, snow and rain shooting down roads and canceling fights and strong winds could ground the macy's day parade balloons let's take a look around starting on the west coast. anita vogel is live in los angeles. >> it's are wet and snowy thanksgiving week in the golden state. there is a light in steady rain here in l.a. right now pod northern california is really feeling the brunt of this storm. snow is falling as much is 1,00. all part of that foam cycle and we've been hearing about. it's causing near impossible travel conditions. number of big car wrecks of already been reported but it's good news for ski areas. lake tahoe could get up to 3 feet of fresh snow. meanwhile in nearby sonoma county folks are getting pummeled by rain after a long dry spell during the fire season. now they are concerned with flash flooding. especially after the dedicating kincaid fire there last month which destroyed nearly 400

smooth sailing on this major interstate. you are looking live but i-75 and 6:30 five, major arteries through the dallas-fort worth area and also quick scans online showing that it's congested in areas like austin, houston, san antonio, some of the major metro areas, but no real major issues to report. more than 4 million texans expected to get out and hit the roads this holiday weekend. take a look at this video out of colorado because a lot of folks that may be headed there for skiing or visiting family, they are going to have a real mess to contend with when you talk about all of these know that a big winter storm system already dumping quite a bit of snow on the region also bringing some very heavy winds. gusts reporting 40 miles per hour in places. that flowing of snow makes for really dangerous driving

conditions and what is more, even more is on the way. let's now go to chief meteorologist standing by in the extreme weather center to tell us more on that. hey rick. >> hey casey good to see you. a couple of big storms we are watching. the first one moved across the northern plains and parts of the western great lakes right now it is cost a little bit of travel delay towards nuke newark. this storm almost done bringing it delays in the san francisco area. here is current wind gusts. we've been seeing wind gusts over 50 miles proud that will cause some slow down but officially no big slowdowns across the airport to run the chicago area. could see some winds gusting up towards 50 miles per hour, this will pull off towards the east and that's why we are concerned in the morning with potential problems for the macy's parade and those balloons. that's what i think we might see that wind just below the threshold and we will see those

balloons fly. temperature wise behind that storm that is where the cooler air is in place come 18 degrees in denver so it's very cold here. all of the action we are watching, really the big storm we are going to watch as this one moving across parts of california in end across the desert southwest. this is the first big storm we found for any kind of moisture across california have this rainy season. we definitely need the maestro and we're going to get too much of it and it will cost some flooding but we needed and it is going to be flooding so we need to watch out for that. overall we have a lot of winter weather coming. this is our winter storm watches and warning. blizzard warnings in effect across parts of montana. this storm will be much more potent than the storm that is exiting right now and this will cause some big time trouble delays for those that are trying to go home on friday and saturday. >> trace: just want to let you know in my hometown, mammoth mountain in the corner of the

and then there is the obesity related issues. i want to bring in dr. rossini roche committees and associate director of medicine at nyu's' school of medicine. always great to see you. i want to put up on the screen with the leadoff therapist of the road. it's supposed to be going down, meaning the death rate, as it does in other countries. the fact that the number is climbing, there is something terribly wrong about question to you dr. raj come is what is terribly wrong in this country right now? >> that is the burning question. the study didn't answer that question, it did raise the alarm that a buyer we can make compared to other wealthy nations in the world, seeing a decrease in our survival rate or longevity went supposedly with them as a coal advances we shouldn't be seeing that and of fact as you said when we looked at the past 50 plus years there was generally an increase in life expectancy but not true for the last three years. we've heard this somewhat

recently and a lot of it was attributed to white populations and things like opioid dependence and addiction, suicide. what's interesting about this study is a child that across all racial populations we've seen inc. increase in mortality. this study is defined as between 25 and 60 years of age. >> trace: i want to put us up on the screen and have you respond to it because this is a map of some of the areas they say are most affected by it. you can see there in the center part of the country indiana and ohio, you can also see that up in the northeast you have vermont, new hampshire, and maine. some of the areas. study said the opioid crisis is really not the overbearing burden on this study, it's not really what's causing the death rate to go up. >> it is not the whole picture. they definitely found in new england and the ohio valley area this is where we sign it

decreased concentration and part of it is the opioid crisis but also other diseases, things like heart disease and diabetes related to illnesses also were increasing in this age group. the question is why. is it an issue of access to health care? is it an economic issue? some of those areas are more economically affected. >> dr. richey mirage, always good to hear you. thank you. we have breaking news coming in now. we talked about this a couple of times. we are learning more about these blind explosions. these are east of houston, that's about 80 miles east of houston. the plant manufactures a chemical that is used to make rubber. imagine the stench of these toxic chemicals building into the air. it's kind of the same as you see these tire fire complexes were the tires will burn for days and weeks and sometimes months because of all of that rubber so you have kind of the same

chemical reaction here. the u.s. department of labor identifies the chemical is extremely poisonous. on that note we should say there are evacuations all over this area because as you can see from the dark smoke right there, nobody knows how long this will burn. in these types of cases you can't really put the chemicals out so what you do is you try and surround them and put up a perimeter and let the thing to burn and try to cut off the fuel source. a lot of times, we've got new video of explosions we want to show you this. we talked about this early. look at the power. i just want you to listen. you hear the power of that? did you see the one piling shoot straight up into the air and then fall straight down question like the black smoke really is indicative of how dangerous this fire is. it means it will burn for a wild

commit means it is toxic and that's why you have these evacuations in and around the area. around thanksgiving this is clearly a disaster, the most important part of this story as there is some injuries. we just don't know the severity of the injuries right now and to be honest we don't know the cause of the initial explosions that led to kind of the chain reaction in explosions down the road. we expect there will be more and so do authorities, which is why they are trying to get people out of that area and surround it with a perimeter and the pictures, when we show the thick black smoke it spreading far and wide so it is not just resigned to this area, that smoke is going to billow and houston is 80 miles away. you have some other major areas again this is a repeat of the last explosion. this smoke is going to affect a

west of detroit. the principal told a local news station that the extension violated school policy. scott and photographer jermaine horton. i have two respectfully disagree with the school. i think the extensions look amazing. when i told you that you could not get your school picture, what was going through your mind? what were your friends saying to you? >> some of my friends are nice. they said i'm sorry. but some of my friends were laughing. and i was mad, because they told me to my face that i couldn't take my pictures. >> did they tell you the reason that we are not going to take your picture? did they give you an option to get your picture taken? >> no, they told me i could take my pictures on november 12. >> oh, a new date.

and dad, when you heard about her trouble at school, what went through your mind? >> i was on my way to work. thank god i was, because it brings anger to any parents heart when you experience something like this. i was able to call the principal and try to talk to him. we got hung up on. it took us a day to get with him to be able to talk about this. it was like they were not trying to speak with us at all. it was a really tough situation. >> i am baffled because i saw pictures of my daughter's school. they had people with pink hair, purple hair, and it was all good to go. you heard about this. you got the feeling here. when you heard about this story, you said it's time to give this girl her own photo shoot. tell me about that.

>> absolutely. the minute that i heard this story, i was stacked in it by multiple photographers on facebook. you really can't get there. i have driven to detroit many times. for me to be able to give back to someone to get their confidence back, i felt that there was very important. everyone can do something on an individual level to help out others. >> quit if you think about the photo shoot? how much fun was that? >> it was a lot of fun. i got to wear nice clothes that people made for me. >> did it make up for it? dad, you talk to her. did it make fu makeup for the school telling you you could not get your picture taken? >> yes. i was happy. i had to take my own to get this special photographer.
