no one told me the aid was tied to anything. i presumed it was.s >> did you talk to president trump in 2019? >> no, i have not. >> you were not on the call? >> i was not. >> the first time you read the transcript of the call was when it was released to the public? >> that's correct. >> schiff failed to unearth any convincing evidence that the president should be impeached. polls supporting impeachment are slipping. as democrats in swing districts sweat out this impeachment push concerned about the penalty they could pay next year, the spotlight moves from schiff to the judiciary committee which will have hearings next week. this is the time when people look forward to the appearance of a roly-poly man with a sack of goodies on his back. i don't think this is who they have on their mind.

>> if we have convincing hearings and people understand what is at stake, i don't think there will be negative political consequences. >> isn't he. cheery? jerry nadler is the chairman of the judiciary committee. this is the man that pelosi initially removed from the impeachment inquiry because he bungled the mueller hearing. pov do you remember that? >> the judiciary committee will come to order. i do not intend to summarize the work. i will not comment on the actions of the attorney general nor of congress. >> pelosi was not confident that nadler had the ability to make the case. the judiciary committee must draft the articles of impeachment. it falls to nadler to convince americans there are grounds to

impeach the president. next week's hearing will involve constitutional scholars musing on what the founders many by high crimes and misdemeanors. at the height of the christmas holidays are americans going to be focussed on nadler or santa? i took to the streets for a answers. we will get back to that. there are some good bites there. some people we interviewed on the street. a grand total of two said they will be focussed on impeachment. democrats have a high political bar to leap over. facing an energized president who is pushing back as he did last night in florida.

>> well, we lost tape again. we will get this fixed eventually. t the president gave a rabble rousing speech and said this is bs and the american people should be thankful for the great economic news. new government statistics show that the u.s. economy grew faster than expected in the third quarter. look, it will be hard to impeach a president boasting that kind of record. with hearsay and an election season around the corner, democrats may want to get in line at macy's rightndn now. only a christmas miracle will save their prospects in the new year. joining me with reaction is dan bongino, author of the book exonerated along with chris hahn

an aid to senator chuck schumer and host of a pod cast. the crew will tell me when they have the shots ready because i want to share those with you. dan, your reaction to the notion that whatever nadler and the dems are planning, all of this impeachment drama will it get lost in the holiday huhbub? >> it's already lost. the new cycle now is about 24 seconds. the attention span of most people is their twitter feed on one scroll.th there was a nothing burger t frm the start. there was nothing there. with clinton we had actually perjury. whether impeaching was a good political idea. with nixon an actual burglarly happened. this was alleged quid pro quo

which nobody can tell you they heard it from the president and it keeps changing. it was about military aid and then a white house meeting and then a public statement. this is a political disaster for the democrats. >> chris, your reaction to this? obviously there are people who are going to debate whether there are grounds for impeachment. will the holiday season play a role in this trying to pitch this impeachment in the middle of the holiday? >> well, everything gets lost in the holidays, raymond. we are the night before thanksgiving. happy thanksgiving to both of you. i am one of the biggest liberals in america and thanksgiving is one of the things we all celebrate. it will get lost in the holidays. the new year will roll around. there will be a trial in the senate. everybody will read the bottom of page 3 and the top of page 4

of the transcript and the president held up the ukrainian president for dirt on his political opponent. that's as slam dunk as you need to get. everything else corroborates what the president himself said on that phone call. >> i want to show you before i go to the next question. i have to share what we got in new york city on the street. the media is salivating over this "new york times" report that trump was briefed on the whistleblower complaint before releasing aid to the ukraine. listen to this. >> the only reason he released the aid is he got caught in this whole scheme. >> the president released the aid when he knew his cover was blown. >> once they knew the gig was up, they had the defense of we gave him the aid. no harm no foul. >> it may have to do with his

conversation with a member of the ukrainian caucus. this is how the president explained it. >> he said please let the money go. i said rob, i hate being the country that is always giving money. when ukraine helps the european country more than they help us. that's my only reason. i don't like being the sucker country. >> is the idea the president was briefed before he released this aid and told about the whistleblower complaint is that the silver bullet to take him out? >> [laughing]. listen, i love you, raymond. this case is a joke! you guys are humiliating yourself on the left running with this. i don't understand how you didn't learn from the clinton impeachment what a debacle this will be. you are going to get trump

reelected. the silver bullet, or quid pro quo, you have to, have someone n the are the end who is aware of the bribery or the quid pro quo. no ukrainian official backed up this story. it's a fabricated scandal. >> chris, your reaction? >> dan, the congress appropriated this money and the president signed the bill. there is the impoundment control act that the president violated by not informing congress he was holding this money up. >> not necessarily, chris. >> [overlapping talking]. >> that's not true. >> it's absolutely true! >> [overlapping talking]. >> okay, don't talk over each other.

immigrants. people like the results. >> there are local considerations. in the "new york times" piece people are telling them i like what this guy says but i am going back to the president. >> in 2016 donald trump was not the only candidate. people looked at the other candidatem and said i had doubts about this guy, butth given the choice i am going with the president. that will happen again. >> obama is weighing in on the 2020 race. here's what he thinks of joe biden according to politico. >> who is beat donald trump? obama told people close to him before biden entered the race that bidenob would have to earn it. >> obama believed that biden had no connection to voters in iowa and would only speak out, obama, if sanders emerges from the pack. is this the kiss of death for

trump's style of change. that's what this is driving. not that people can say it's a legitimate issue. - professional what bothers me-- when i see parallels between propaganda organizations and the conversations out there in the b press and it's been mapped outsa clearly that should set off alarm bells. >> this is chris matthews. he believes trump is heralding climate apocalypse. >> trump fiddles and the earth burns. he is using nationalism to take us down. not just we americans the but thena world with us. >> can you cover a person when there is such deep-seated hatred, even a president? >> well, it would be very, very

difficult. i don't want to speak for chris matthews. but i walked away from an interview because i felt so stronglyal about it. for any journalist out there on climate change, i meet geologists and scientists and talk to people from the oil industry. there are a lot of questions about these things. when something has such a big price like the green deal. it's up to all of us as journalists to question these things to figure out what is true and what is not true. anyone who discourages that kind of conversation who says you can't look at this, it's complete and absolute and there is no reason to doubt anything there.th i don't understand how that is something that we advocate for with freedom of the press. >> i agree. happy thanksgiving. i am a huge fan of your work. particularly that extraordinary piece you did on iraq's christians.

in some of the rooms and heard the voices and some of the moans and stuff of the people who had these injuries. their suffering was what i was supposed to portray. i was trying to get this right for these guys. >> you did. >> i just had this accident with the helicopter. in afghanistan. >> and the president took you out to dover to receive the bodies of the soldiers? >> right. he felt i had empathy for the families and invited me. would you like to come? yes, i would like to see that and say myrformed prayers and salute those caskets. >> the ceremony, there is an art to it. i was so grateful to be there.

>> it's an incredible thing to witness. >> that ritual, that art made the statement of our respect and our gratitude for the sacrifices of our military. i am sure the dignity was affecting to those families. >> you played john paul ii and d fdr, howard cossel and now this ex-con nicky donovan who is the star. i upon ray is the star. this role he is sly and dangerous. where did this come from? >> [laughing]. where does it come from? somebody wrote this terrible character and i embody it. you go to emmy events and interact with people. they ask me how did you come to this role? i say i do this and talk about
