everybody's cat. this cat is the coolest cat i've ever seen. >> i have a question, i have a question, why is that cat on a leash? >> do you want him to take it off the leash? >> juan: emily has warned me, i need to be cautious. why do you put it on a leash? >> at the columbus zoo we are known for all of our outreach programs, we have the opportunity to bring animals to you if you don't go to the zoo, we do such a good job with susie wrap and her entire animal program team, touch the heart to teach the mind and we are wanting to give people an opportunity to see these amazing animals. this is not an animal you would want to domesticate, try to have as a pet, these are wild anima animals. claus, sharp teeth. they are youngsters. they won't get much bigger than this. they are going to find little mammals but mostly insects out

in the desert, they get their fluid from the food they're eating. >> dana: even at the columbus zoo do they not drink? >> no, at the columbus zoo we are giving them some water. >> dana: do you mean this is the first time they've ever been tv? this particular cat are the whole species? it not on "national geographic"? >> maybe on "national geographic" when they've shown them out in northern africa in the deserts. >> this is a cable news exclusive right now. >> absolutely, it's never been done. >> you have so much natural tv in your blood. >> i'm glad he still has a hand. >> i think he's beautiful. >> can you do your cap voice for the audience? >> dana has a dog voice and i think we just found her cap voice. >> i wanted to know you guys acquired these two? >> from other sand cats.

other things you don't like. >> just say you wanted to attack me. we are doing the sloth, right? the greatest animal ever. >> we love slots because the slowest mammal in the world and being thanksgiving, i bet we have a lot of slow mammals watching right now. two toed sloth and three toed sloth's are found in central and south america. they are so slow that algae will grow on there for her and they will turn totally green. >> that happened to me in college. >> there's a little moth that lives on the sloth and when the sloth will come down once a week, that sloth will go down and lay its egg. it's a symbiotic relationship. >> only once a week? >> that's like me. i need that metamucil. don't say disgusting, it's what happen when you get older,

emily. how do you survive when you are that slow? >> they are going to stay up in the trees, eating vegetation. this animal is from the rain forest and they are not going down to drink water, they are getting all their fluids from the leaves they're eating and also the leaves will hold water, it's raining all the time. when they do go down they can swim very well, they will go across the river. i was in costa rica and there was a tree that had fallen and it looked like coconuts but there was really a sloth playing right there. >> what strokes does a sloth swim? >> it's a sloth stroke. >> that's great speech impediment test. >> are jaguars, different types of cats, hawks out in the wild, there is an eagle that was about there. the bottom line for the sloth is they are very slow and at night they are going to maybe move a little bit more than they would

during the day, just kind of hanging out. everything is upside down for them. >> they are used to seeing everything upside down, do they have the same effect we do when they are right side up and we are out like -- if things are upside down for us to get freaked out. did they get freaked out when its right side up? >> and they are swimming they don't turn their head, their brain switches so they are able to swim on, they spend most of their time, though, up in the trees and they are very comfortable. everything about them is upside down. even their hair starts in their chest. >> last time you were here, you told us don't touch the sloth but i'm curious, is that for a soft? it's a wiry hair and it will repel the rain from all the oils and -- >> you can make a rain jacket out of it.

>> here's a cute moment. this is duncan and derek. they are dingoes. >> these are dingo pups. these are just young, only a few weeks old. a couple weeks old now. i'm sorry, they are nine weeks old. the dingo is a beautiful canine from australia. there also found, they said years and years ago in asia but mainly found in australia and they are going to hunt any type of animal they can get. they'll go after kangaroos, in australia there's a lot of sheep. >> he's traveling with a kangaroo, do you have to keep them apart? do you ever think about how cool it would be if you didn't? we can do that in there be a block. we can set up a little cage match. >> that would be my last day at

work. >> they are not endangered? >> they are definitely not endangered, years and years ago they were actually domesticated. do you remember that saying three dog night? that's where it comes from. the locals when it was really cold would sleep with their canines, there dingoes and if they needed three it was a really cold night. >> they have populations in tasmania. now that we are on that topic since i brought it up, our tasmanian devil's real? >> they are definitely real. >> i thought that was just a cartoon. >> they don't spin around and they are not with bugs bunny. >> they do spin around and create that whirling dervish? >> they do not. we have them at the columbus zoo. you can see them. >> we've got our next animal coming up here. cd. >> such a denta dental animal.

>> here is sadie. this is fitting for us because it's a fox. >> you got greg good. >> this is a swift fox, swift fox is found in north america, you can find them in colorado, kansas, even up in canada. swift fox, they are fast. and really when we talk about swift fox, they were in deep trouble, they lost their prairie dogs, that's what they eat. when we talk about a fox like the swift fox, if you find them in your area where they are supposed to be found, you have a healthy ecosystem. really fast animal. beautiful. >> a little shaky there, is indeed? is this his first time on television? >> that's actually me. >> she's gorgeous.

warriors operate. take a look. ♪ what is the main mission for the working dogs here? >> our mission here is law enforcement and security, dogs that are trained as explosive, narcotic detector dogs, bringing contraband onto the base, will be there to enhance the basis security. the training they go through, they get 60 days of detection training and then they also get 60 days of patrol training learning all the basic stuff, they go through a certification process and get released to their duty station. >> are dog teams are always training. >> how strong is a dogs a sense of smell? >> they say between 1,010,000 times stronger than a humans.

they say if you put a pinch of salt in an olympic size swimming pool, the dog can pick it out. >> once you do it for a while you feel it coming you know it, you see it when it happens. >> he gave a speech, you come in loving dogs but it grows on you to become an addiction. >> final question. ♪ all right, so right now i am getting geared up for what will be likely the highlight of my life which is the demonstration, what's called a bite suit. thankfully it's really heavy. i'm so excited, i can't wait. i'm getting a little nervous. >> run up with your arm just like this. you're going to keep moving. you got to make it fun for the

>> wow. >> he pulled you down with some force. that wasn't staged at all. >> that was all torque on his part and it is frightening to see that dog being held back by the trainer, i'm going to release the dog. i was trying to run, you cannot run in those suits, they are in incredibly restrictive, tough campus feel that it was amazing. once i lived through that moment it was totally exciting. >> dana: when the dog bites through the bite suit, if full on his biting, the perpetrator and -- as the dog sink its teeth all the way in or is it trained not to penetrate? >> it will sink its teeth in and i think it depends on the training but it's to apprehend the suspect and also it's trained to do different body parts as well. >> jesse: what other body parts? >> emily: never the face. >> juan: definitely not your head because your head was

exposed. >> emily: i had total faith in these guys, absolute professionals, they assured me he would not go after my face or neck. >> juan: it's a german shepherd? >> emily: it's a belgian melon law. they trade with a few different breeds. >> juan: they used to be mostly german shepherds but i read their hind legs were having a lot of trouble. they are still mostly german shepherds but a high percentage of the ones you talk about. >> jesse: they are trained to sniff narcotics. they give narcotics to the dog, how does that work? >> greg: underneath the nose. >> jesse: i'm not saying you drug of the dog, you presented to the dog. >> emily: military working dogs, there are three different kinds. narcotics, explosives, and also patrol. >> greg: can you tell us the difference when you're out? >> emily: whatever you have on

from social media about pets. here's our first question, a facebook question from lola. what was your first animal responsibility growing up? i think what lola means is like a pet you had to take care of, emily? >> emily: after the big oakland fire is, we host a family that had cats so i got to have cats after that on the condition that i would take care of it start to finish so my first responsibility was taking care of my black cat start to finish, feeding, water, cleaning out the kitty litter 100%. >> jesse: i had guinea pigs and it was a disgusting situation because you'd have 15 guinea pigs in one cage and they'd make a whole mess of it and it was my job to clean out the cage. i think it was punishment. >> juan: did you like having the guinea pigs? >> jesse: not really. i think they've thought it would help with responsibility. >> dana: we had in my house a

dog and then my sister and i brought home a cat from the ranch and we were responsible for feeding, watering, and i don't know if we did it properly and sadly the cat died of leukemia. that was an early lesson, life lesson for me. >> greg: i had three older sisters so i was kept in a cage, i was the pet. i had little box turtles. everybody had little box turtles, you went to the pet store and you got a little turtle, lived for two weeks. they didn't last long, you lost them somewhere and found them all dried up an event. >> juan: if you were an animal in the zoo, which animal would you want to v and you got to tell us why? >> greg: definitely i'd want to be a gorilla i'd see the people coming at me, i would be

slinging feces all day. >> dana: i would want to be a draft to experience what it's like to be that tall. >> jesse: what was your favorite animal in the columbus zoo? the kangaroo. i will be a kangaroo. you can jump, allegedly, the footage of a full bus. i could jump right out of the zoo and escape. >> emily: i would want to be the thing that didn't know it was i in the zoo, which would be something in the aquarium. >> jesse: the dumbest animal. >> emily: a fish in the aquarium, they would know they are in captivity. >> juan: that's kind of sad. >> emily: that's how i feel. an octopus. an octopus because the monterey bay aquarium because their life spans are longer in captivity. >> jesse>> greg: they can escap! >> juan: they are really smar
