reason, to tell you in person that this thanksgiving is a special thanksgiving. we're doing so well. our country is the strongest economically it's ever been. we have never done so well. we have the greatest economy anywhere in the world. so it's nice to know that you are fighting for something that is doing well as opposed to something that was not doing well just a number of years ago. nicole: what i really enjoyed is the president speak to the truth he didn't complain what was going on in the united states. he didn't say all the impeachment issues. all he did was spoke positively about our country and thanked them for what they are doing and reintegrate some hope in them. help them understand we really appreciate that they are there. i thought it was a very positive message. i loved all the secrecy of you who he got there. there was a second air force 1 that was hidden in the hanger. he didn't want this trip to be compromised. they took every precaution to make sure he was going to

get there and deliver this positive message to our troops. dean: pete, you have been to this bag gram air force base a time or two in your life? pete: i have. dean: what's it like when the commander-in-chief suddenly shows up on thanksgiving? pete: of course it's a boost. you see the photos. everyone is smiling and happy. everyone in that back drop right there is missing their family, husband, wife, mother, father, whatever. they are in afghanistan in a place where they are hoping to come home safely from. the fact that the commander-in-chief makes a trip like this, visits them, serves them a little turkey he said he got mashed potatoes and no turkey. but it means a lot. i have spent two or three. i can't remember in each deployment i was gone for thanksgiving. but, you know, your commanders do the best they can to make you feel at home when your commander-in-chief comes it's an extra boost. good on him. and i know you could see in the faces of the troops they really appreciated it.

nicole: in addition to a boost to it troops he was there to discuss peace talks with the taliban. listen. >> as you know, for a period of time, we have been wanting to make a deal and so have the taliban. we pulled back. we were getting close. and we pulled back. we didn't want to do it because of what they did. at the same time, we are bringing down the number of troops substantially. but we are able to, because of the weaponry and all of the things that we have in place, and we're going to stay until such time as we have a deal or we have total victory. and they want to make a deal very badly. pete: yeah, it's pretty important. how you finish wars really matters. we have been there for almost two decades in afghanistan. the future is very uncertain. a bad deal is worse than no deal. and the taliban has not shown they have been good faith partners. but ultimately if we can hand it over to a strengthened afghanistan government that has the security forces capable of

fighting the taliban, that's a good thing. talks continue. where it goes, count me as skeptical. dean: that place is a quagmire no doubt about it. nicole: another story happening is hong kong. protesters in the street now waiving american flags for america. thousands of pro-democracy protesters taking to the streets waving american flags and celebrating president trump signing of a law supporting their months' long movement. pete: we have been covering on the program for a long time hong kong there was a bill tried to pass six months ago. main land china wanting extradition. meaning if they wants you from hong kong china because you are speaking out from the government we will take you. freedoms effectively go. >> hong kong bastion of freedom and capitalism. the senate passed a bill saying we support the protesters. look at those images right there. dean: that's incredible. pete: they are singing the national anthem. these are freedom-loving

deal. immigration proposal, infrastructure, addressing prescription drug prices. things that the united states have tried to solve. and, yet, the democrats have neglected these pressing needs and wants for middle class americans for some sort of political circus in washington, d.c. and you are starting to see this backfire and boomerang against these democrats. but these democrats were entrusted with trying to solve these problems in some of these swing districts that donald trump won in 2016. they have shown all they care about more than anything else as we moving donald trump and not delivering results for the american people. pete: charlie, why can't they do both? because they say they can. is there not enough days on the legislative calendar? are they too focused on impeachment? why can't they? >> well, getting d.c. to do anything at all is a remarkable achievement. here is why. because the energy of the democrat base is towards impeachment and removal and revenge. the democrats are engaged in

a pre-med tighted impeachment. prepremeditated. wimpeachment. it was started when he was worn into office in january of 2017. putting aside all the priorities and saying the only thing that matters is seeking revenge for a president who was never supposed to win an election. quite honestly, pete, the deeper i dig into it and more lawmakers i talk, to almost as if democrats don't want to give trump the win. it's as if they don't want him to have any sort of legislative victories whatsoever. dean: so they cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. perhaps that's the eleven here. nicole: doing what they wanted to do. if they wanted to get past legislation they could have. 50 bills introduced regarding drug prices. nothing has been signed into action. it's all there they have the infrastructure but they are not doing it. i think you are right, they don't want to give them the win. just remember, the republicans maintain all three branches for that short amount of time they got the tax cuts done, criminal justice reform because they wanted to get things done. if democrats really wanted

don't realize how good they have got it? >> yeah, that's exactly right. one of the things i noticed the difference between the people that i grew up with and the people that i went to college with, stark differences in their family structures i was born into poverty in los angeles. my dad abandoned us. my mother was addicted to drugs. i spent my childhood living in foster homes and attending military and attending yale. every single one of my friends in yale grew up in a two-parent stable family. dean: talk to us about that. we are both parents here. for me i'm an adopted kid too. i understand where i might have gone not had my father not come into my life and gave me a strong hand. what is it that kept you on the straight and narrow then. >> i wasn't always on the straight and narrow to be honest. i wasn't a very good student. a lot of people like to hold the school system responsible for how children end up. the thing is like my schools weren't that bad. my teachers were pretty dedicated to me and the other students and they

pete: the whole idea of peace talks is a tricky one. where does this go? i don't know. no faithful partner on the afghan size. we can talk about the politics of afghanistan. we have done that for quite some time for almost two decades. over thanksgiving, while you were enjoying your neil meal with your family appreciative and grateful for what we have in this country, the president jumped on air force one right there. he still hasn't gotten off the plane. he just landed in the united states. we are seeing them bring the stairway up to air force one. a long trip as the president said 8331 miles to bag gram air force base. dean: and back. pete: spending two and a half to three hours on the ground serving the troops thanksgiving additional. and giving a speech mental to boost morale. nicole: not only boost morale. is he trying to do what the obama administration failed to do. he decried the afghani war as a dumb war. political reasons.

he kept pulling troops out. but what he failed to do was put an infrastructure in place for long-term stability of afghanistan. president trump has vowed to take troops from afghanistan. however, he appreciates and understands the fundamental need for a stable government there before we do that he is working on both sides. is he bringing morale up for our troops by visiting them and really getting everyone feeling great on thanksgiving. he is also showing that he is committed to peace talks with the taliban. unfortunately he will have to do that if we do want any sort of long-term success in afghanistan. dean: no matter what he does if he goes and visits the troops on thanksgiving, spends his thanksgiving flying and doing all of that serving the troops and doing whatever. people will try to secure him well i guess the original "newsweek" headline is he was golfing and hanging out and they had to quickly amend that people picking on him for not talking about the impeachment stuff while he is over there. they are doing -- he is over

there to serve our troops and to say thank you. and to shine a light on this ever, ever going war. nicole: he could have used this gain 2020 election. calling out democrats and not happening right now and impeachment inquiry. he did not do that he focused on a positive message and really just focused on our troops. pete: we are watching and waiting fort in the to emerge right down there in palm beach, florida. you mentioned obama's treatment in afghanistan. he surged there. but when he surged he told the enemy when we were going to leave at the same time. which is ultimate morale booster. i was there in 2011 and 2012 as part of the backlash of that. if you have allies how are telling we're behind you but then at the same time telling you only for a little itty-bitty piece of time. ultimately it undercuts your narrative why you are there. taliban uses it effectively. president made it clear i don't want to be here

indefinitely. ultimately the taliban had an attack that killed many afghans in that process. showing they are not serious about any sort of a cease-fire. president said fine, talks are off. we are done. i. a good deal not just any deal at all. that's the afghanistan. you spend all this time and treasure in afghanistan going and tackling regime. here we are this far later saying we just have to be there because we are there. he says that's not smart. what we need to do is kill the enemy, either totally destroy them or cut a deal that allows the afghans to do it themselves. it shouldn't be american boys to do this if we can extricate ourselves. you see him on the right side of that screen with the troops telling them i have got your back. i'm trying to cut a deal with the taliban. no one wants to deal with the taliban. they are not good folks. we want to get you out of here. his reception as we saw photos other places in the media was warm across the

board. troops appreciate that he made this trip. he could have stayed cozy in florida or the white house. instead he made the trip and showed the troops that he loves them. nicole: did he have turkey with the troops? he didn't have it at his own thanksgiving dinner. pete: i believe he sat down with the troops. he dug into his mashed potatoes first. didn't hit the turkey the general said to him sir, we need to go over here and take photos. he bemoans that he went mashed potatoes first before having turkey. nicole: i like that plan. dean: i go mashed potatoes first. pete: i put mashed toe tatos. stuffing. nicole: i future all together as a hodgepodge it's amazing. dean: he is over there with our troops. things people forget about this is america's longest wear. that's shocking to me. pete: ever. dean: you don't hear it talked about. we are at war right now.

reporters. but, historic day coming back from the battlefield here on the day after thanksgiving. dean: that's after 26 hours of flying. and three and a half hours or four hours on the ground. pete: very much. so he will get in his motor said and head over to, i believe, mar-a-lago. remember, this was all in secrecy. i learned about this yesterday at 2:00 in the middle of my thanksgiving dinner. hey, the president is in afghanistan. what it takes to conceal a trip like this, you are removing cell phones from reporters who are in the pool. you are keeping a close hold inside the white house. you have got to detract. have you got to basically conceal your movement for people that watch air travel around the world and then have you got to land safely in afghanistan, a hot zone and get to the base to speak with the troops. a big move, not just for the president but for his security detail, the secret service. good on them. nicole: amount of detail and effort that went into this

you got a big response. you said 30% of the folks you riched out to said it's important. we have seen polling that has reflected that that almost a third of the black community is supportive of this president. so what do you say to his detractors? >> hey, well, good morning, pete. pete: good morning, happy thanksgiving. >> thank you. what i say to the detractors you should probably be a little scared. because, here it is, we conducted polling in the metro philadelphia area. and this was all registered independents and democrats who are all black. and here we are in the city of brotherly love. this was an issue many of them were concerned. first of all, pete, this was not, oddly enough, the major concern. this is part of an ongoing effort by our organization along with our sister organizations tea party community and the black sphere we were commissioned to find out what's the information. what's the maybe misinformation that's taking place out there in the black community and a lot of concerned citizens out

there. our polling, our informal polling if you will has led us to believe that the information that we are helping to get out there, we feel like we are doing a lot to help lead the charge to get information out there. that information is reaching people. and we're not just doing it here in philadelphia. that was one of the first places we chose. over 10 different states and 15 different major metropolitan areas. pete: we have to get the word out. the media is never going to report it. christopher, these couple of polls that we have seen recently that show support for president trump and the black community as high as a third. a lot of people in the media are dismissing it. what do you say to people who dismiss those numbers? >> well, i mean it's easy to dismiss it when you are scared. and that's part of the problem there, pete. it's the misinformation out there. you know, i'm a christian, i'm always going to go back to my bible john 8:32 says when you know the truth, the truth will set you free. and so we feel like we need to get the truth out there. get information out there because like everyone else,
