in the saudi arabian air recall. authorities haven't said this is an act of terrorism. the website posted what might have been one of the gunman's tweets. several suggest they were possibly filming the attack. the president took a phone call from the saudi king shortly after the shooting who tried to salvage u.s.-saudi relations. >> that the saudi people are greatly angered by the barbaric actions of the shooter and this person in no, way, shape or form represents the feelings of the saudi people who love the american people. >> reporter: the shooter was part of the saudi yo saudi airp. the governor is putting pressure on the mideast nation to take some kind of responsibility for the victims. >> the government of saudi arabia needs to make things

better for these victims. and i think that they are going to owe a debt here, given this is one of their individuals. >> reporter: this weekend, naval air station in pensacola is open to mission essential personnel only as the fbi continues to investigate this morning. back to you. >> aishah hasnie, thank you. we'll stay on top of this throughout the show. >> absolutely. listen, names and donee countris americans have been familiar with far too long. we are getting reports he tweeted out friendly things about al-qaida right beforehand. we have to confirm those reports. this looks like radical islamic terror inside our training bases. we have long relationships with saudi arabia. i'm not indicting those. clearly, something was missed or this guy was just straight-up deceptive, which within islam, if you hate the infidels you are
3:03 am
allowed to lie all you want. all the signs are there. >> republican congressman president matt gates from that area tweeted yesterday he clearly believes there's a terror link here. the fbi a few hours later had a news conference in pensacola saying they still don't know the motive. >> to give a little background about the security at this pensacola security. a few hundred foreign aviation students are trained at pensacola at any given time. the training program has about 1500 pilots, saudi has been getting trained at pensacola at this site since the 1970s and security beefed up at the base about four or five years ago. so those are just a couple statistics about the -- >> there's over 100 countries that are allies of the u.s. that are involved in these kinds of training programs. this has been going on and usually there's not a problem and there's vetting in place, we're told but clearly the vetting needs to be stepped up.
3:04 am
>> i've been involved in the military to military organizations. there's reasons why you build bonds between militaries. it makes strategic sense. we're hearing reports that three of the saudis were caught filming it. the question is what did we know and when did we know it. were there other members of the class that saw signs? i guarantee in the days that come in front of us, we'll get a sense, oh, this guy was acting a little weird, was he not. or maybe he was stone cold and didn't give a single sign except for a manifesto on twitter right before he did it. the reality is, three of our service members or people that worked at that base are killed because of someone that turned a gun on them who was given the opportunity to come to our country and had declared some allegiance to al-qaida. >> these are important questions that are being raised. answers are being demanded by rick scott. he said the vetting system has to be improved. >> we have four nationals on
3:05 am
our bases. i served on the navy. you expect when you get on your base, you're safe. we've got to have a complete review. every indication is this is clearly terrorism. we've got to understand why these people are on our base, are they vetted, and clearly we've got to change what we're doing. we have got to take care of americans first. i love that we have allies that want to train with us and be with us, but we've got to take care of american citizens first. >> how did the guy get a gun? if you're a saudi national on our soil, the guys in that classroom were not armed, a lot of questions for saudi arabia to answer. 15 of the 19 hijackers came from saudi arabia. they trained at schools in florida. maybe they're friends geopolitically but we better dig hard into this. >> i think you're saying you'rg members of congress are going to. we remembered heard from rick scott and representative matt

gates who represents pensacola bases in his district, who said we're going to get to the bottom of this. people are looking for answers. >> we'll be looking for more information. >> we'll be all over it, all morning. >> another big story we don't want to ignore, the economy roaring right now. a few months ago, many in the media, almost seemed like they were cheerleading the possibility of a recession heading into 2020. look at the numbers, the jobs report, the expectation was blown away. >> you could say a beautiful jobs report which is something president trump would probably say. this reminds me of we've seen these economic modelers like moody's putting out reports, saying if the be president wins, if the economy -- saying the president wins if the economy stays like this. democrats are trying to impeach the president for political reasons while the economy is booming and this is what americans care about, they care
3:07 am
about the economy. >> this is a story we're not going to ignore. it might get a glancing mention a at other networks. it's a an convenient truth for e left and the media that supports them. look at the wage growth numbers. >> you've heard, unemployment's great, you heard people in the media say, wages are still down. but you're right, there's growth, big-time. >> there's always like the economy's strong but there's this that we're a little worried about. no, the economy is booming right now and americans are benefiting as a result. this puts president trump in a strong position, heading into 2020, regardless of what's going on on capitol hill. >> yesterday he said "i told you so." >> the numbers have been phenomenal, so spot-on, so good, that they've actually never seen
3:08 am
anything like it. it's a long way from when people were rooting for a recession because they thought they could maybe win an election. but we don't root for a recession. we root for success. and we're having tremendous success. >> yeah, so you're rooting for success. well, the other thing we've been covering this week is what's gone on with impeachment where there is no rooting for success. nancy tells us she's prayerful about it, she's pay patriotic t it while the president takes a different view and rightfully so. this is what he's tweeted. he wrote nadler hasn't had a single fact witness testify, zero substance, country wants usmca and growth, not impeachment, polls have tanked on the do-nothing democrats. it raises the point, not only have they not advanced key pieces of legislation, but the polls in early states are showing that either voters
3:09 am
tuning out or they're not interested. >> can you imagine if usmca had already passed, the economy would be in even better shape. >> that's the point from the president, he says these are the things i want to get done but this is what congress is focused on and why reelect them when this is what they're doing with their majority. previously, it was russia collusion, then it was obstruction, then it was ukraine, now they're pivoting back to russia. >> the white house said we're not going to participate and mount a specific defense in the house judiciary committee. here's pam bondy from the white house. >> why would we participate in this of this sham? they need to drop it now. if they don't, we wrote in our letter, you know what, if you don't do it fast, get it to the senate, where we can have a fair trial -- because you know who we want to call? adam schiff. we want to call the whistleblower. and we want to call hunter biden. adam schiff won't even be
