5:00 pm
>> here is a summary. both sides are saying the same thing over and over. there is no end in sight. we don't know when this vote will happen. have a great night, everybody. we'll see you back here tomorrow. good night. >> welcome to "tucker carlson tonight." i'm brian, fill nothing for tucker throughout the evening. you will hear from tucker later tonight, stay tuned. the impeachment drama is dragging on and on and on in washington, d.c., i'm astounded they keep saying the same thing over and over again. the excuses are getting thinner and thinner, and why we're going through impeachment to begin with. president trump told sean hannity how washington has been trying to bring him down since he took over. remember? >> pres. trump: on inauguration day, few hours after inauguration day, saying
5:01 pm
impeachment begins. >> the president goes exaggerating, making things up, just one article. no democrat would say that is been impeaching him since day one, would they? here is nancy pelosi, two days ago. >> one of the biggest criticisms of the process is speed the house democrats are moving. seriously -- >> speed? been going on for 22 months, 2-1/2 years, actually. >> she just admitted it. last night house judiciary chair jerry nadler admitted democrats are pursuing impeachment because it is too dangerous to let the american people pick the next president in 2020. >> why is this necessary now? why do we need to impeach the president? why not let the next election handle it? if we do not respond to president trump's abuses are power, the abuses will continue. we cannot rely on an election to solve our problems when the
5:02 pm
president threatens the very integrity of that election. >> that is interesting f. this push fails, make no mistake, democrats will find another excuse to launch another impeachment effort. al green promised as much a week ago. >> a president can be impeached more than once. so we can do this. there is no limit on the number of times the senate can vote to convict or not a president, no limit to number of times a house can vote to impeach or not, a president. there may be a possible opportunity to do other things at a later time. >> wait, it could happen three times in our history? three times after 243 years? but he wants to do it over and over again with the same president in the same term. so whether or not they are trying impeaching in the future, for now the, ukraine saga is dragging on. today was another day of hearings, democrats took turns trashing the president and republicans like leskoe firing
5:03 pm
back. >> it continues to amaze me how corrupt, how unfair this process has been from the start. you guys have been wanting to impreach this president since he got elected. none of your fact witnesses were able to establish any evidence of bribery, treason, high crimes or misdemeanors, not one single one. this is a sham impeachment and sure is a shame. >> minewheel, debbie is getting in a twitter war with bette midler. joining me is louie gohmert, another fiery presence all day long. watch. >> rep. gohmert: we started this impeachment proceeding about the russia hoax and collusion and demanding documents about the russia collusion and it kept changing and then went to bribery and extortion.
5:04 pm
never in history has a president been accused of crimes with target constantly changing. this is outrageous and needs to come to an end. >> they settleod abuse of power and obstruction of congress. see if we get a vote tonight. stepping out to explain what is going on, congressman louie gohmert. what has been going on for the last two days? >> rep. gohmert: it is an animal farm, it is insane, it is outrageous. i've sat through some really bad trials, as a judge, but this exceeds anything i've had to sit through. it is such an outrage. it is so ironic, too, they don't have a crime, they have had to drop every single crime they've alleged, they have nothing now, other than they have basically offended the majority in congress.
5:05 pm
they've abused power. it is congress abusing power and how ironic joe biden would say if subpoenaed, he would defy it, he wouldn't do it. that is what this mob is trying to kick out from trump to the white house and we just took up an amendment that jim jordan had filed that said, okay, basically you say it was an unfair election in 2016, let's amend your impeachment articles to say, you're not trying to keep him from running again or being elected again. they don't want to eliminate that, that is one we've taken up. pretty clear they have been exposed. can i point out one silver lining here? i try to find some silver lining, no matter how bad it's been. we've known this was a swamp, we've known there were swamp
5:06 pm
creatures. one of the biggest problems here in washington is figuring out who is part of the deep state, who are the swamp creatures and trump derangement syndrome is so bad, it is like when sergeant york gobbel like a turk neworld war i and germans jerked their head up, these guys have been raising their head to see who needs to be fired, who needs to be out of the swamp and we found them. >> congressman, people not watching network television in the '70s, don't remember 1998 when bill clinton admitted he lied under oath and had an affair with an intern. there is nothing here that, is where the disagreement is. you have moderate democrats not on board with this. suzanne wilder, anthony, collin peterson, alissa slotnik, mike rhoades, tom swayze, democrats not on board with this.
5:07 pm
never seen anything like this. >> no, i've never sooen anything like it. heard about witch hunts, lynch mobs, using congressional system to destroy people that have committed no crimes whatsoever. it's just incredible to be a part of watching and knowing that we can't win these votes because the majority, it's just almost unbearable. >> 233-197, they need 217 to impeach. nobody wants to get impeached, poll wise they are losing on this. what are we going to see tonight, vote to committee to impeach? goes to the floor when? >> rep. gohmert: yeah, we don't know for sure, at some point, we're trying to clean this mess up and they are at some point going to pull question and then we'll have to vote on the
5:08 pm
question and majority, they will end debate and vote. you know how they will vote. they have all indicated what, 17 -- 16 or 17 voted last summer to impeach him, back when they were saying it was about the russian collusion. they were ready to impeach him and that hasn't changed, never mind the facts. >> got you. congressman, bad news, you got to go back in. thanks for joining us, our audience appreciates it. lawmakers don't take to each other, they talk at each other and we watched them say the same arguments over and over again. nobody is convinced on either side. after the house, impeachment will move to senate. senate lindsey graham wants the charade to be over as soon as possible. >> what i'd like to see this over as soon as possible. i don't want to give it legitimacy, it is a crock, i want to end this as soon as
5:09 pm
possible for good of the country. it is danger to the presidency to legitimize this. i am not interested in witnesses. this is a sham, crock, i don't want to legitimize it, i want to get it over. >> before it gets embarrassing and cost them an election, congressman mike johnson joins us from the room to our cameras, he represents louisiana. made a lot of sense trying to make progress, congressman, saw you talking all night and all day. do you think your point is getting across, you don't buy either impeachment articles? >> you know, i used to litigate cases, brian, i could gauge how we were doing by looking at faces of opposing counsel. democrats know they are losing this, losing the faith of the american people. they know entire charade, no merit to it. we have systematically taken down every argument and shown
5:10 pm
this whole thing is truly become a circus, as you've heard many times today. i have confidence. polling will continue to go in the direction against impeachment and good reason for that. >> before christmas, we'll probably have house floor vote, tonight you are supposed to have a committee vote and then what? do you work on friday? could you get this done on friday? >> they're saying, the rumor on the hill, we might be voting on the floor on thursday, wednesday or thursday. who knows, this whole thing has been a rush job, it is part of the problem with substantative claims. one claim is the president abused his power and obstructed justice. there is no obstruction of justice when the president delays or denies subpoena from congress, it happens all the time. it happened in the obama administration and virtually every administration in the modern era. there is remedy. party issuing subpoena is supposed to go to court and let the third branch of government
5:11 pm
decide that. this side doesn't have time for that, they promised to impeach the president by christmas, that is what is driving this, th clock. they are doing great harm to the republic brian, that is greatest outrage. >> in 31 seats, the democrats flipped him. lawmakers are getting nervous about this. you know, including some that have not committed to vote for it. the word is, congressman johnson, that nancy pelosi and leadership will not whip the vote. vote your conscious. what is the reality? >> the reality, they are reading the tea leaves, see the numbers like we do, american people are throwing their hands up, in the 11th hour of this hearing. people are going, this is it, after this, whole charade and production engineered by adam schiff and taken over by jerry nadler, presided by pelosi, this is all you have. people know this is a witch hunt. the people in this country, 63
5:12 pm
million americans elected donald trump president. handful of democrats don't get to make the decision to remove him from office, that is not how the system works in america. we have republic. an election in 11 months, the people will decide. democrats will rue the day they did this. big mistake. >> you did homework, took them apart in your view, every step of the way and put next to their statement on impeachment. congressman ken buck said this. i will tell my colleagues, go ahead, vote to impeach president trump tomorrow, when you walk out of the hearing room, call your freshmen colleagues and tell them they are not coming back and hope they had fun. is there sense vote for impeachment cost them their political career? >> i think there is. i think you can see on some of their faces, a few freshmen on the committee, i'm watching all day long, they are struggling, they know they are in trouble. they'll pay a heavy price, the real price, the greatest tragedy about this, the one we're most
5:13 pm
concerned about, the price the republic, this country will pay for this. they have opened pandora's box f. this goes forward, what happens to any administration, any president that makes unpopular positions, the party that has majority, if opposing him, could try to impeach him. paper-thin accusation got us here,00 i don't know how to put the genie back in the bottle. >> when his taxes come out, they will have a problem and you'll be back heres, they don't like something he did in the past, you'll be back here, that is bad for the country. democrats and republicans would admit it. bad news, you got to go back in. >> thanks a lot, appreciate your coverage. for months, democrats described president trump's actions as bribery or quid quo pro. best-selling author, that is not a coincidence, phrase is
5:14 pm
removed. she says, because if democrats talk too many about bribery, they could end up ensnaring joe and hunter biden. author of resistance at all costs, how trump voters are breaking america. she joins us now. two articles of impeachment, don't mention quid quo pro, what do you mean? >> it was funny, we saw articles of impeachment, we called it, honey, we shrunk the impeachment because listen, for months now, we've been listening to extortion, quid quo pro, lecturing on proper definition of bribery, which was something removed from all statutes or history of the country, but the way they had to define it in order to pack it into what they say donald trump did. suddenly it disappears and this is because someone in the democratic party realized, if you expand the definition the
5:15 pm
way they did and say any time any politician asks for something from another country in way that might benefit them in some way, their own party would be implicated. >> kimberly, i spoke to high-ranking trump official today to get their view on impeachment, he says, it is really working for us, in terms of money raised and in terms of the as you mention, shrinking articles. what they worry about is october and november. are you really going to re-elect an impeached president. do you think that is a legitimate worry? >> no, i don't, actually. here is why. for the same reasons that the democrats have not succeeded in impeachment and not convinced majority of americans that this was impeachablea offense, that is not necessarily going to resonate more strongly in october or november. or it is certainly not going to resonate equally with the president's ability to say, look at what they did to me, do you want people like that running the country.
5:16 pm
>> on the radio show today, i played lindsey graham sound byte, he said, i'm not looking for a long trial, in and out, i'm not calling joe biden, hunter biden, we'll do it some other time. people are mad, republicans want their story out and a president wants his story out, he wants witnesses on his side, counsel on his side, the majority in control of the hearings, the rules and regulations. is the president right or is lindsey graham right? >> so i'm not going to say who is right. i will say this, i understand that desire to have their own chance to get their own back, all right, but in politics sometimes you got to make decisions with your head over your heart and one of the problems with that, it gives legitimacy to what has been illegitimate process and i would argue the senate would send a stronger message by saying let's have a motion to dismiss, we will not treat seriously
5:17 pm
impeachment proceeding held in secret that leaked stuff and didn't give president's counsel or republicans right to participate or call witnesses. >> i don't think i have to tell you this, we have usmca on the launch pad, china deal phase one ready, great job numbers, great manufacturing numbers and the president actually is doing the best he can and seeing break with iran. arguably our number one enemy in the world. a few things going right for him. kimberly strassel, thank you. barack obama has shows on netflix, hillary clinton is doing content for hulu, why does her documentary look like campaign ad? we'll discuss that with mark stein next, we'll continue our coverage, which is splitting the screen right now, the impeachment hearing. stay tuned, don't move. ♪

russian investigation and colluding with ukraine and the impeachment articles, the logic behind them, she is rightfully the president and if that is the case, and the democrats have been so exercised as to impeach the guy over nothing, then why wouldn't she get back in the race, particularly when the so-called front-runner is as feeble and weak on the stump as joe biden is and all the young ones, the ones under 67, have flopped like kamala harris. >> brian: under 77. biden over warren, sanders, buttigieg. where is hillary clinton in there? guess where she is? >> mark: hillary would do well initially on name recognition and fact joe biden is doing so badly. the same time, she would

energize the opposition because she would be the face of the obstructionism of the last 3-1/2 years. we just saw in the united kingdom today, eventually the people rise up against the guys who obstructed the result of the last vote. >> brian: couple things, in a poll when asked if she joined the race, where would she be? 21%. joe biden 20. and buttigieg five. couple things, hulu does good work, pretty slick ad, very open and honest interview with one of the best in the business, if not one of the best ever, howard stern, not a trump hater, but doesn't think he should be president. hillary clinton seems to be on path that is not blocked. keep in mind, mike bloomberg rationalized getting in. this whole story has been swamped by impeachment, swamped by the ukraine. we're about to have a debate, we don't know who is on the stage.

i don't know what network is covering it. we used to stop everything and do preview and post games, what is going on, mark? >> mark: basically a candidate called impeachment is leading as far as democrats are concerned. there is mythical candidate called mr. i am impeachment guys think can take out trump. i don't believe that is where the energy on the base is. if you look at it, all indicators, including ratings at msnbc and the lack of interest in impeachment by the hipsters, like alexandria ocasio-cortez and uma, and the cool kids in the democrats, impeachment is ana obsession of democrat swamp creatures and the corrupt-crat establishment like bidens and clintons. >> brian: interesting, while impeaching, the president got a space, got him pretty good jobs

and serving for operation iraqi freedom in a combat theater, myself and mr. collins took great reproach to some of the comments. some of the democrats stating because of the aid did not get there in the three weeks it was delayed, ukrainians died at the hand of russians because they did not get the aid in time. it's absolutely ridiculous to think that aa did not get to the ukraine, ukrainians died because president trump did not get the aid they are in a three week period of time. for people that served and people who served our country, it's absolutely appalling that the democrats would stoop to such lobe grounds to bring in the fact that oh, because this aid was delayed for a couple of weeks, that ukrainians died at the hands of the russians and it's president trump's fault. >> trying to heal what's going on between the two countries. clearly russians are aggressive in trying to beat up on the american still in crimea. important for zelensky to know
5:58 pm
that he has it against vladimir putin. >> president trump sent them actual military aid and javelins to defend against russian aggression. it's interesting, all these democrats talking about how the ukraine needs this military, but you didn't hear them talk about it in the obama administration when he wasn't sending them aid to defend themselves against russian aggression. >> the rest of the night over the next few hours, you will vote on the articles of impeachment and the bodies making the progress either way. so you heading to a vote to that, you thinking about midnight? >> i think there's going to be several more amendments for republicans and we'll be here the next hour or two at a minimum. this could easily go after midnight. going to depend on how much each member wants to talk on one of these amendments opposed. >> is there an amendment that you want to put forward or is this just to get into their sk skin? >> a lot of it is simplistic so
5:59 pm
the american people can understand what we were trying to dupe or the first minute we did took out the first article which was the abuse of power article because it was so unwarranted and wide and varied that you could charge any president with abuse of power. it's not is in the constitution. >> listening to you watching what's going on, you've got 3-4 more fights to get in the middle of. i've got to send you back inside to thank you for bringing us to the historic hearing spread that's it for us to think that i want you to tune in at 8:00 eastern time because this is the show of the sworn enemy of lying, pomposity, smugness, and groupthink. do not forget to dvr the show and check out my sam houston: the alamo of the avengers. books a million and lawrenceville, georgia, you'll see me in the morning. i will be at walmart. go to briancommittee.com for more. as series, "what made america great."
