♪ >> 1% has been arrested after shooting in the chicago memorial party. that left 13 people wounded early this morning. those four injured ranging in age from 16-48 years old but welcome to america's news headquarters, i molly. eric: welcome. i'm erica sean. chicago continues to be a city under siege. four of those newest victims are in critical condition at this hour but authorities say the party was being held in honor of someone who was killed during a different shooting earlier this year. matt then is tracking it all in our chicago bureau.

reporter: please say around 12:30 a.m. shots fired detected the shots at this house party and police rapidly responded. hard to believe that the party was being held in memory of another person killed here in the city earlier this year. please say at least one person was arrested with a weapon in a second person of interest is being question. a revolver was recovered. police say inside the house party there was a dispute and people started spilling out into the streets and shots were fired in and around the house. the police say the scene was so chaotic some people do not realize they had been hit with a bullet. the weather here in chicago had been unseasonably mild and will be for the next few days. police say activity means people and shootings are on the streets. >> too many weapons on the street. the police will still recover weapons even though it is december and we are recovering the same amount of weapons we would recover during the summer time. so many weapons on the street.

reporter: chicago police have recovered more than 10000 guns year to date here in the city. at least 34 people this weekend have been shot in the city of chicago. the mayor says the silence will not be tolerated. >> this is a horrible tragedy. the people that have the most personally affected by it are traumatized by the experience. we will make sure we provide them with support and resources. reporter: police say they are beating up their presence on the street over the next couple of days but eric and molly. eric: matt, thank you. molly. molly: all eyes on north korea as the hermit kingdom promises a christmas surprise for the united states. the senior administration official now telling fox news that the white house is expecting some sort of launch over the holiday. this all comes just a day after north korea's foreign ministry promised that the u.s. would quote, pay dearly for criticizing the country's ongoing human rights violation. garrett tenney has more. reporter: this meeting is the latest indication of north

korea's growing frustration over the lack of sanctions released by the u.s. but according to the state-run korean central news agency kim junco and presided over a key meeting of the military to decide on important military steps to bolster up the overall armed forces is acquired by the fast-changing situation in crucial time of the developing grant revolution. the outlet did not specify when the meeting took place and did not elaborate on what steps he plans to take but some north korean experts believe kim may preparing to test launch and intercontinental ballistic missile. the white house is expecting pyongyang to attempt some sort of launch over the christmas holiday according to a senior in ministry don't official recently told john roberts the north appears to be going back to his old playbook of trying to get president trump's attention with threatening actions. if that happens, the north attempts to launch the official says the u.s. will likely respond by going to the un and possibly enacting additional sanctions of its own. that is the exact opposite of what the north has been demanding since denuclearization

the hudson institute and former u.s. intelligence officer. michael, north korean said to be testing new rocket engines and concern that they could fire off a new intercontinental ballistic missile that could potentially reach us. what do you think kim jong-un and is up to and what to predict? >> thank you for having me on for this is a playbook and something that north korea has put in place in the past, increased provocations, increased threats in hopes for sections relief and in hopes for concessions but that is not likely to happen. who better to deal with a christmas surprise than a general named charlie brown? the commander of pacific air force, u.s. air force, is already looking at the launch site and prepared to do anything if it shows that it's an offense of threat. the president just hinted that we are looking at it and we can take steps. this is a president not afraid to use an offense of cyber attack capability against these types of lunches. we will have to just watch.

eric: as we watch, how do we know when we get to that trip wire? what is the line? we talked about using cyber warfare so what about a missile strike perhaps against a site? >> we already have eyes on the site and it seemed to develop into of the site. it's already been revealed through comments here in washington and other places that it looks like and intercontinental ballistic missile launch. if it starts to straight in an area that looks like it's an offense of threat it could be shot down but kim jong-un who is trying to demonstrate the capability in order to negotiate to walk back to a place he's comfortable with. it's a tactic that is often used in negotiations with the west but it's different this time because present tom has continued to impose economic sanctions on iran in north korea when they use these provocations and when they use this playbook. eric: those of sanctions got tougher with the passage of the

table. eric: will the chinese banks now stop supporting kim jong-un and, do you think? will the spigots that support his regime be turned off? >> we always have tools to use but what i like what the senator says it shows bipartisan support but if you look into the language of chuck schumer and menendez they want a tough deal with north korea that does not look anything like the iran deal we walked away from it does address regional behavior, blistered missiles and human rights violations you talked about earlier with those new sanctions. this is good your hand bipartisan support for tough actions against north korea and china. we have these tools available to us but it's whether or not the president, a transactional president, wants to use those levers and ponds to get trade agreement with china that gets china to help us with north korea as well. it's all the tools we have and in the toolbox. we can use them at any time but it just a matter of whether or

not a transactional president, like president trump, will choose to do so. eric: finally, the clock is ticking. kim jong-un who threatens the so-called surprise. what do you predict will happen and do think he will back down or is he in a fox? can the president, even with a phone call, cap if the president says he has a beautiful relationship with him, could there be a stand down or will this continue to be a standoff? >> i think we will engage in south korea to see how they feel about this to launch something on christmas eve, christmas day or before the new year. i think we can sit back and watch it and then impose sanctions. the design here is to make a threat, you know, put in a provocation in order for sections relief, in order for us to make some sort of concessions. that is not likely to happen and we are already communicating that to kim jong-un and and we will see what happens. eric: all right. we shall see.

[cheering and applause] and if it did happen and if they were successful, they will destroy this country. reporter: house speaker nancy pelosi is still withholding the articles of impeachment from the senates. this delays a trial they are. democrat subscribed the tactic as leverage to compel senate republicans to allow witnesses and any impeachment trial with senate majority leader, mitch mcconnell, is left off the concept as senate democrats push him to agree to allow witnesses. >> it was very clear to me he's made up his mind. he's not interested in evidence but he's not interested in the facts and wants to get this over with and move on to the important or more federal judges.

that's a serious problem. i think the american people expect us to carefully consider the evidence, not concealed the evidence. reporter: there was some bipartisanship this month. democrats and publicans agreed on bills to fund the government and on trade agreement with the united states, mexico and canada. president trump even accepted an invitation from house speaker nancy pelosi to deliver the state of the union address on february 4. molly. molly: it will be a very interesting january, certainly in february as well but rich edson, thank you. appreciate it. let's shift gears a tad with the holiday shopping nearing its end with a couple days left to make the last minute purchases. this year pete debussy says the consumers are expected to spend an average of $1284 on gifts. that is 2.9% increase from last year as consumers remain optimistic about their spending. joining me now for more insight

in this is peter bc partner and business develop later, mitch rishel. thank you for joining me and taking time out of your holidays as we inched closer but if you look at the crowds in manhattan there are plenty of people still out there shopping. confidence looks pretty good. >> consumer is competence. biggest reason is wages are out. the two lowest earners, lowest paid earners in the country their wages are growing two and half times faster than the highest-paid earners. when you have more in your paycheck in its holiday time you get them to spend it. americans are also saving at the same time and what a great sign for the economy. molly: those are the drivers of the economy. >> right, saving and spending simultaneously is a pretty good thing which means people feel common and comfortable so they go out and shop. molly: i had a chance to look through the report and its lots of snowflakes in their which makes it more fun but the holiday growth in holiday spending from 2015-2019 with the study uptick is that the trend we will see in the next couple of years, do people have that

confidence? >> as long as the economy remains of the robust rate we had the lowest unappointed rate in generations people will go out and shop when it is time to shop at the trends shift for more online shopping but by and large everybody is confident right now and we are seeing it in the holiday sales. molly: one of the other tips we found interesting about the economic and political factors that could impact [inaudible] good news for the housing? >> housing market has stalled for long time but the biggest those that weren't enough houses on the market to fight but then the interest rates came down almost a full percentage point and act to people who were on the sidelines back into the market and the problem is builders were not even building for the good news that just came out this week amidst all the other headlines there was a great economic news is that builders are building again and the permits which is the leading indicator of more housing supply are up to a level we've not seen in over a decade. molly: one of my favorite fun

shopping will be jen the witch as my kids generation witches -. molly: i'm a gen z. >> you may be gen x but not jen the. molly: that's right. one can dream. >> one could find their college education but they are the only truly digitally native generation so they only know shopping when they dragged them to stores and what was their choice to shop they shopped online. >> but it's not just mere convenience but the lifestyle. >> and they are the most influenced by influencers. one of the biggest things we've seen in last couple of years is the role of influencers on decisions that the younger generations make about what they buy. molly: all, to be an influencer. we did not even have that when i was growing up. in about one week from now when looking back what you think the big takeaways will be from this holiday shopping season? >> i think the mall isn't that big there is this perception that the mall is dead at what is happening is we're seen it before our eyes. the mall has transformed from a

place where you shop to a place where you take part in an experience been so much of the holiday shopping and the giftgiving are giftgiving experiences particular friends to the movies or their dinner and that's your gift. the mall is this new thing and not just stores and it will be a hybrid of places where you have experiences of places where you shop. molly: go see santa and frozen in the big cushy seats. >> and then you go to the food court and go to an interactive gaming place, all in the mall. molly: that's great. here in the final takeaways with a couple days left what we see in these final days? after that you hit the sales? >> sales have been happening molly since the beginning of november and that's the other advent of not only social media but digital age and shopping so the coupons that have been in your face so the beginning of november, since you done trick or treating that's when holiday shopping starts you'll see that continue. if retailers have excess inventory in a certain place they know where you are and they can target you and try to get

molly: six people dead and 13 other injured after a fire at a las vegas apartment complex. several residents were forced to jump from that three-story building to escape the flames. it is unclear if anyone died after falling from those windows. fire officials say it appears to have been an accident but some residents were using their stove for warmth as a complex did not have heat. no firefighters were injured in the blaze. ♪ eric: the boeing star liner is officially now back on earth. touchdown in new mexico earlier this morning after failing to reach the international space station. another rocket was tested for

the first time on friday but the highland highly anticipated launch did not go quite as planned but christina has more on what went wrong. hello, christina. reporter: this on crude orbital taste test flight was had a major timing - the good news was the star liner did have a successful touchdown today. nasa says marks the first time in u.s. history that a human rated capsule return from orbit and made a round landing. nasa says that his article because the information gained from this trip will help strengthen the commercial crew programs and america's human spaceflight capability. nasa is relying on boeing and space acts to design and build space kraft that can fly astronauts to the space station and nasa has invested more than $6 billion in those two companies for the commercial crew program. even though this on crude capsule did not dock at the international space station as planned boeing was still able to

we are learning more and more about the dangers of vaping and we've already heard from the cdc there have been 54 deaths, more than 2500 people hospitalized. we know they could be lifelong potential interest. i imagine there are a lot of parents concerned when they seek these numbers. what is your big take away? >> this increase we see is the second largest increase we've ever seen in our 45 years of all substances we are surveyed. it's an alarming increase. as for parents, what we should say to them, it's important to have a dialogue with your kids and not lecture them because most teens are not open to that but to talk to them and keep it positive and listen to what they say. their sources, they have websites with all kinds of information with parents who would like to have a conversation with their kids and the packs they can let the kids know.

>> it's amazing to me, 3.5% admit to daily vaping in 12th grade and 40% acknowledge they vape in the last month. it goes up to a quarter of 12th graders. why are we seeing such a search? >> more alarming than that, it turns out the kids who use marijuana, they are twice as likely daily. i think a large part of one of the issues here, if you are a team and you want to use marijuana at school, it is very risky. you will get caught. if a place to smoke a joint and you are at risk of this time and the smell as well. if you have a baby device, you can take it out of your pocket

and put it back in nobody knows any better. the fact that it is easy to conceal is encouraging kids to use these devices frequently. >> how you begin to push back on somebody something that's so easy to hide. if a parent doesn't know it's happening for the school doesn't know and they can't see it, how do we begin to push back? >> we are in uncharted territory. these devices have hit the scene in the past four or five years. we don't really know the solution yet. the best thing now is for parents to have conversations with kids, these are not devic devices, they carry risk among teenagers taking place while it's still developing. these kids risk coming to their full potential using marijuana in their teen years.

>> there was another study, 8.1 acknowledge they were hooked and they began, they can be curious, try something in eighth grade and be completely hooked. >> yes. nicotine is very powerful. their studies of mice and laboratories where the mice, once they are hooked, they are more likely to choose a nicotine hit than food or water to the point of starvation. it's important to keep that in mind if their kids are hooked because they can try actions, parents have taken their cell phones away, unless the kids stop vaping, they continue because they couldn't control it. >> cell phones can be addictive as well. >> true.

the ceo about charity, soldiers handles austin. her group seems to do wonderful god-given work. how soldiers angels, the angels for our troops overseas? >> soldiers angels provides aid and comfort to service members deployed, wounded heroes and veterans of all generations. as you mentioned, one component is, we've already sent 7000 stockings to service members, special operations forces unit to make sure they have a great holiday season matter where they are located. what in the stockings? >> people all over the country have pledged to donate stockings that are stocked with a variety of things from snacks to hygiene items to mow trinkets. we sent them overseas and shirts and a lot of goodies meeting

their specific needs. the chapman sense out specific requests and we try to do as much as we can to accommodate hottie needs for those service members. >> the put yourself in a position for those families at home and abroad, what is the reaction you get from those who receive these gifts? >> they really appreciate it. most of them don't expect to receive anything. a lot of surface members joint because they come from a dysfunctional family line, financially unstable situation. you can't afford to go to college. a lot of the families don't have the means to provide that. to get something from an unexcited group is really important to them. it's a real surprise to receive a hottie box that has a stocky for them. we get a lot of letters and cards back from service members with items in angel volunteers

send small trees to decorate. >> we were just looking to send that. it does bring a sense of christmas to those deployed. you not only help them overseas but you help families here at home, how do they do that? >> we have a great adoptive family for the holidays and deployed service members of the families. as well as wounded service members and veterans in low income housing. they apply for the program, they have to be low income and qualify them to get adopted by a family or company to provide hottie support for them. we usually do about 1000 families a year adopted the program and receive a holiday meal and at least one item for each child. >> are viewers watching, you can

adopt a military family and be in partnership. this family is on wallace fami family, there dad, kyle, he's deployed and won't be back for the holidays. a big shout out to kyle and wisconsin. anybody watching, they've adopted that family. that is marvelous. tell me about them. >> they are a great family. he spent deployed about six months. she has a two month old child she had during deployment. she raised on her own. she applied for the program as well as our other program. she received a virtual program. they've been wonderful to adopt gnomic this family but several families for the last several families. they go above and beyond the minimum requirement.
