fight in encouraging fellow veterans to never give up. his story is right here. >> sergeant rob jones. marine corps, on july 2, 2010, i was in the process of trying to clear out a danger area of ieds. that resulted in double above the knee amputations. >> i realized quickly just because i was missing my legs above the knee, that didn't mean my life's mission had changed. i still wanted my life to be something i could be proud of. i wanted my life to be something that made a difference in the world. i was able to go to the

paralympics in 2012, win a bronze medal in rowing. i was able in 2013-2014 ride my bike from maine to san diego. and in 2017, i was able to rub 31 marathons in 31 days in 31 different cities and i did all of that to show no matter what your circumstance, veterans can stay in the fight. the support that i got from my loved ones was kind of an unspoken thing. in that when i first got injured, they were there to support me no matter what. with their support, i was able to stay positive and not give up. so i kind of set a precedent for myself of being positive and just keeping on mission and just staying there. >> he took the final steps of his marathon journey on veteran's day, december 17. he raised $200,000 for wounded veteran charities.

>> because a wounded veteran is injured, doesn't mean they're broken or incapable of contributing to society still. so that mention is what keeps me out of bed in the morning and keeps me going even when it starts to hurt. so tonight the most valuable patriot award goes to marine corps sergeant rob jones. >> a lot of people have fought and died for our country in combat. and flying american flag is a good way to respect them. >> not a lot of people -- trying to get people to hang or fly more flags outside of their houses to say thank you to the people giving back to our community. >> how do you inspire people to put out a flag? if you can throw them a bit of a discount on one, maybe that might inspire them. >> i didn't expect anyone to take me seriously. i was surprised that this many people actually went to lowe's and bought a flag. there were four or five flags before i came out here and now there's a flag on every single house. >> we want to 100% support the military. anything i can do to support this project, no questions

for one purpose. that's to honor the fallen, to remember those who have served. at least that's how it should be. >> the next recipient will not stand for anything less. >> making news for protesting the national anthem, one hockey coach has gone viral for the message he sends his team on the national anthem. >> round one in soccer. the nfl. if there's anybody here who's going to be disrespectful to either the american or the canadian national anthem, grab your gear and get the [ bleep ] out now. you'll never see the ice in this arena. we don't have that problem in hockey. we're better than that. but there's no sense in wasting anybody's time is that [ bleep ] is going to happen.

the most patriotic sport they have out there, so, keep that in mind, thank you. >> sergeant john kaprinsky served as a police officer for 30 years and on the s.w.a.t. team for 15. he suffered a heart attack during track. >> i take pride of my country. the flag -- i've seen it coffering too many coffins. i think we can take time-out to give it two minutes worth of respect to our soldiers, to our firemen, our policemen. i don't think that's asking too much. i'm not going to apologize for asking players to show a little bit of respect when it's either the canadian or national anthem.

>> what i want to know from you is what motivated you, what made you feel so adamant taking that stand. >> respecting our flag and anthem should be a basic concept of every american. that came at a time when we were having a bad week. sometimes that needs to be said. i felt that week it needed to be said. i criticized some of the athletes who refused to do that and blamed it on coaching. it's a coaching problem. i wasn't going to have that problem. >> thank you, sir. congratulations. >> when we come back, the award for first responders.

>> good evening. my honor to present the award for first responders. at fox nation's first ever patriot awards, which you all were kind enough to show up at. the first responder serves with the need is the greatest. they run towards the problem when everybody else is rubbing away from it. performing outstanding acts of heroism and courage far beyond the call of duty. a first responder never gives into fear or loses hope. we honor those who selflessly put their lives on the line every single day in the face of crisis. tonight's recipient demonstrates a willingness to help others on and off of the clock and has proven to put his whole heart and soul in to protecting the community and his nation, travis moss.

>> being scared to death -- as a first responder, you hear a lot, you're running in as everyone else is running out. so i just joined the army reserve after 9/11. so he knew exactly what he was getting into. the country was already at war. that speaks volumes of the kind of person travis is that he gave up the comforts of home to deploy not once but now twice to the middle east. travis took the test to become a lieutenant before being deployed. and we've had vacancies become available. he was selected by the chief and his staff.

>> the other quality i would tell you about really has nothing to do with travis flying helicopters or being a lieutenant. you see travis interact with his wife jessica or three daughters, it literally makes me want to be a better husband. >> he's a hero because he -- he -- >> sometimes he does dangerous things. but he does it to protect our country and community. >> i miss him. and -- he's out there fighting the army for us. >> i miss -- and -- >> don't get to have traditions. my dad says this on christmas.

my dad says it on halloween because he's not always here. but when he is here, he makes the most of it. >> he can make a joke out of anything. my dad works two jobs and he never complains. >> i look up to my dad because he's a very humble person. and he has a grateful heart. >> what makes travis so special. service twice in his role. >> i know. it truly brings him joy to help people and being a first responder is something he wanted to do since he was very little. and joining the military was a later in life decision that he's never regretted and he enjoys both. and he really feels like today it's not about him, but it's about all of the first responders who do both jobs because there are a lot out there who serve both their community and country. they're reservists in the military. they come home, the civilian job is to be a first responder. 50 members of our local police department that he works for here in the audience to support
