no? jillian: breaking news. "fox & friends" is going to continue to follow. we have a lot going over in baghdad right now. the u.s. embassy has been stormed by iraqi michelle. this is in response to airstrikes that happened on sunday. rob: bye-bye. ♪ griff: breaking right now angry protesters are inside the compound in iraq. >> standing guard as chaos erupts. >> trey yingst is live in jerusalem with what sparked the protests. trey? >> dean, rachel, griff, good morning. hundreds of iraqi demonstrators have stormed the u.s. embassy in baghdad. all of this in response to u.s. airstrikes on sunday that killed at least 25 militants of the iranian backed iraqi she a militia group hezbollah. this is very concerning to american forces in the region. there is more than 5,000 right now who are working along iraqi security forces to push back against the
3:01 am
islamic state remnants across the region. those demonstrators storming the embassy upset that the u.s. conducted those airstrikes on sunday. yesterday, u.s. secretary of state mike pompeo was on fox talking about really how all of this started on friday of last week. there was a rocket attack against an iraqi base that houses american troops. one american contractor was killed. and four u.s. service members injured. this was the reason that president trump decided to launch this operation within iraq. but it has been controversial with iraqi leadership. iraqi prime minister called it a violation of iraqi sovereignty. the iranian government who does back this militia group said this was support of terrorism by the united states. so the big question now is how is all of this going to affect future american-iraqi relations moving forward. what we know right now hundreds of iraqi demonstrators in baghdad have stormed the u.s. embassy there are some reports of rubber bullets and tear gas being fired. right now it does appear that those u.s. embassy
3:02 am
security guards are completely overwhelmed. this is set up to be a very difficult situation for u.s. forces. and moving forward, we are going to continue to monitor this story throughout the day to see what unfolds at the u.s. embassy in baghdad. back to you. griff: trey, i want to ask you a question, as we watch this unfold, reports that the u.s. ambassador and key staff have been evacuated. do we have any indication when that has happened and sort of what the u.s. response has been to security preparation? >> >> we are working to confirm that information at this hour. we do know back in may the united states put out an order from the state department to remove all nonessential personnel from iraq. this as demonstrations have rocked the country this entire year against the government. we actually sought prime minister resigning earlier this year and he stayed in that role really as a symbolic thing to try to keep the calm and keep some structure and order in the iraqi government. again at this hour, we can't confirm the evacuations that
3:03 am
have taken place. there are reports that all of the essential embassy staff has been ordered to leave the country. we are working at this hour to confirm that information that has been reported by reuters. as the a result of iraqi security officials who have spoken with that organization. one other point of note though, the united states has tried to maintain some presence there following what president trump has described as the defeat of the islamic state. all of this really has been ernesto twinsd because when you step back and look at the larger picture, this group hezbollah that was targeted in iraq and syria over the weekend by u.s. airstrikes has previously helped to liberate the iraqi city of mosul during the height of the fight against the islamic state. so moving forward this was a group that was supported by the iraqi government and, again did, have ties to senior leadership and still does today within the government in baghdad. certainly going to be a difficult situation for president trump and the administration to navigate in the days to come. griff: yeah. all right. trey yingst in jerusalem. thank you very much, trey.
3:04 am
rachel: thank you, trey. griff: trey, very good important point this larger picture issue. if our viewers are just watching, these are harrowing images and certainly we are going to see violent images this morning as we try to ring in the new year. what's important to note that trey hit on is the iran-backed group, hezbollah brigade, different than the one you are normally used to from the lebanese hezbollah still iran-backed has now been pushing control of the iraqi government and you had iraqis just weeks and months ago protesting that now the airstrikes, the administration send ago message after last week after an american contractor was killed. the administration saying no. we're not going to let that go unnoticed. we are not going to let that continue. sought administration, i think, we will see a statement at some points i hope this morning that says that that airstrike killing 25 hezbollah brigades was in response to attacking american contractor and a strong response says that we
3:05 am
will continue to respond in similar manner. this is about protecting american lives and about protecting iraqi lives. rachel: meanwhile, senator marco rubio just tweeted iran is directly responsible for orchestrating the storming of the u.s. embassy in iraq and must be held accountable for it and the safety of every american serving. there yesterday, dean, we had, you were here with us and we had secretary pompeo on saying that, you know, while this is backed by iran, the iranian people don't like seeing this. they are suffering right now. griff: the iraqi people. rachel: the iraqi people. the iranians backing, this thiraqi people aren't going to be happy to know this is where some of their money is going. dean: a horrible situation. brings back memories of benghazi and that whole situation with our consulate there being stormed. it's an awful situation. and i'm really interested to see how the administration is going to react. griff: it is interesting, dean, as americans wake up
3:06 am
and think perhaps about benghazi, we have to separate the difference. trey mentioned in the fight for mosul and i was showing some of the producers pictures in november 21, 2016 i sought iran revolutionary guard come into the east gate it. caused a standoff with iraqis who didn't want to let go. it was a power struggle now in the wake of americans withdrawing. even though we have 5,000 troops over there we have largely withdrawn our footprint. the iranians have really taken a strong hold it is no surprise for our viewers to wake up and see iran is fomenting protests because they want to shift the iraqi people's angst as you point out, rachel, on the u.s. not on iran's control within iraq. rachel: right. absolutely. there is other evil out there. right now evil exists so says the armed hero jack wilson who took down the killer or the shooter in that west texas church just recently.
3:07 am
listen to what he has to say as he recounts how he felt about what he had to do in order to save all those people. >> i don't feel like i killed an individual. i killed evil. i don't see myself as a hero. i see myself as doing what needed to be done to take out the evil threat. my training, you know, says that if i see a weapon, especially in that scenario because that is my job. i am the deacon in charge of security of the church. and the people that were on the security team, we have spent, you know, numerous hours training and working on, you know, just this type of scenario, hoping it never happens. dean: jack wilson doesn't want to call himself a hero that man is a hero. the situation that he was faced with and his -- the amount of training that he has done to reacted to that situation is amazing. we had dan bongino on yesterday morning. he was talking about how these guys reacted in that kind of pressure.
3:08 am
that gentleman is a hero and, to take that head shot at 50 yards or whatever that was, 50 feet, that's a really tough shot. and it's amazing under those sort of circumstances. griff: you are honorary law enforcement police officer. once you get that training, when you need it most it's there. ken paxton the texas attorney general says i hopes other states and other chunks elsewhere with l. take the lead here. we had an incident two years ago in shoulder springs where 20 people were killed. the legislature responded worked. we can't stop every incident. we need to be prepared as jack discussed. this church was prepared and they are an example of what can be done within six seconds they dealt with the issue and saved potential hundreds of people. i hope that other churches around the country will adopt policies like this and we can stop losing so many people when these incidents
3:09 am
occur. rachel: anyone who questions whether this works or not, to have an armed person inside of a church, inside of a school, this is on videotape, that's what is so amazing about. this they were livestreaming this service so this was caught on video. it's just incredible. again, he was well-trained as you said. he actually had a range that he trained the other security giewrdz on. definitely -- the model of what you want in a situation like this. >> we have tomi lahren coming up on this show today. she strong second amendment rights advocate and hear a lot more about that. meanwhile, says he would consider a republican for his vice president but he just can't think of one right now. listen. our 21-year-old is on the other need i wonder if joe biden would consider choosing a republican as a running mate? >> the answer is i would but i can't think of one now.
